Densities were measured for the ternary systems Y(NO3)3 + La(NO3)3 + H2O, La(NO3)3 + Ce(NO3)3 + H2O, and La(NO3)3 + Nd(NO3)3 + H2O and their binary subsystems at (293.15, 298.15, and 308.15) K. The results were used to test the applicability of simple equations for the density of the mixed solutions. The predictions of the simple equations agree well with measured values, indicating that the densities of the examined electrolyte solutions can be well predicted from those of their constituent binary solutions by the simple equations.

Transparent conductive oxides (TCOs)—foundation of perovskite solar cells (PSCs)—have long been assumed to be stable, and thus their impact on device longevity is frequently overlooked. Herein, we unveil that fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) suffers from instability under operational stress, exacerbating PSC stability issue. To address this issue, we propose a universal interface engineering strategy employing a scalable thermal evaporation followed by natural oxidation to form an atomically bonded yttrium oxide (Y 2 O 3 ) to strengthen structural stability of FTO. Evaporated yttrium effectively anchors a portion of lattice oxygen within FTO, preventing elemental dissociation. Moreover, the formed Y 2 O 3 featured conformal deposition on rough FTO increases the interfacial adhesion energy, establishing a robust barrier against ion diffusion and carrier nonradiative recombination loss. This approach fortifies the structural integrity of the PSC, leading to dramatically improved operational stability. Unencapsulated devices exhibit negligible performance loss after 1,200 h of continuous illumination. Notably, we achieve power conversion efficiencies of 26.48% (certified at 26.12%) in regular (n–i–p) architectures, 26.34% in inverted (p–i–n) configurations, and 28.47% in tandem structures–among one of the highest reported in their respective categories–underscoring its strong generality and potential for commercialization.

Remote modulation of specific neurons is critical for neural circuit dissection and neurological disease therapy. Traditional neuromodulation strategies applying electrodes and external stimuli may suffer from invasive injuries and insufficient spatiotemporal resolution, respectively. Herein, transcranial optical neuromodulation with precise spatiotemporal control was realized by establishing a nanophotonic neural interface, where the polyethylene glycol-modified two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) served as near-infrared (NIR) photoactive nanosheets (PANS). Polymer modification of the nanosheets contributed to a robust PANS-neuron interface, which allowed efficient modulation of non-transgenic neurons with subcellular resolution and millisecond precision. The PANS-enabled transcranial optical neuromodulation not only evoked neuronal action potentials in brain slices with a high synchronization rate of 98.33%, but also facilitated neuronal firing in vivo. With PANS as stimulus targets, the transcranial NIR light can excite neurons in desired brain regions and activate defined neural circuits, thus regulating mouse behaviors with minimal invasiveness. Such nanosheet-enabled transcranial and precise optical neuromodulation, eliminating invasive implants and genetic manipulation, may open opportunities for neurophotonics and neuroscience research. Non-covalent interactions play an indispensable role in the construction of molecular ferroelectrics, as they can regulate the relative orientation and stacking mode between molecules. However, the difficulty and challenge lie in precisely designing and regulating the weak intermolecular interactions, ultimately generating macroscopically reversible spontaneous polarization through synergistic effects, thereby achieving ferroelectricity. Herein, we introduced halogenated ammonium Cl-PA + (Cl-PA + is 3-chloropropylaminium) to regulate non-covalent interactions in the structure of hybrid perovskite, and constructed a photoferroelectric semiconductor (Cl-PA) 2 PbCl 4 with large piezoelectric coefficient ( d 33 = 27.4 pC/N) and high Curie temperature ( T c = 353 K) through the synergistic effect of hydrogen bonding and halogen-halogen interactions. Compared with non-ferroelectric (PA) 2 PbCl 4 (PA + is n -propylaminium), the severe distortion of PbCl 6 octahedra, weakened N–H···Cl hydrogen bond between organic cations and inorganic frameworks, enhanced C–H···Cl hydrogen bond between cations, and the additional Cl···Cl interaction in the structure synergistically induce the ferroelectricity of (Cl-PA) 2 PbCl 4 . In addition, the large dipole moment of Cl-PA is also beneficial for constructing molecular ferroelectrics, and the synergetic effect of non-covalent interactions in (Cl-PA) 2 PbCl 4 provides the possibility for dipole flipping and symmetry breaking. Therefore, constructing molecular ferroelectrics through the synergistic effect of non-covalent interactions essentially utilizes dynamic coupling and precise equilibrium of multiple weak interactions to achieve the formation, stability, and external field flipping of spontaneous polarization. Through this collaborative design, ferroelectrics with high spontaneous polarization ( P s ), low coercive field, and wide temperature range can be achieved, which opens up new directions for flexible electronics and energy storage.

Background Slow transit constipation (STC) is a prevalent functional gastrointestinal disorder. Gastrodin (GAS), a natural compound, has demonstrated protective effects in intestinal contexts; however, its therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action in STC remain largely unexplored. Methods A total of 30 male C57BL/6 mice (6 weeks old) were used in this study. An STC model was established using loperamide. The therapeutic effects of GAS were systematically evaluated by measuring several parameters: stool output (fecal pellet count and moisture content), intestinal transit rate, and colon histopathology. Furthermore, we analyzed serum and colonic levels of inflammatory cytokines, key neurotransmitters, and aquaporins (AQPs). The integrity of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the colon was assessed via immunohistochemistry. Finally, the expression levels of proteins associated with the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway were examined. Results GAS administration significantly improved STC symptoms by promoting defecation, enhancing gastrointestinal motility, and ameliorating histopathological damage in the colon. It also markedly attenuated intestinal inflammation, normalized the expression of neurotransmitters and AQPs, and restored the loperamide-induced depletion of ICC networks. Mechanistically, the protective effects of GAS were associated with the suppression of the MAPK signaling pathway, as evidenced by reduced phosphorylation of its key components: extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38. Conclusion Our findings indicate that GAS possesses significant therapeutic potential for STC by mediating its beneficial effects through the regulation of intestinal inflammation, motility, and water transport, ultimately via the inhibition of the MAPK signaling pathway.

A facile two-step modification method using dodecyltrimethoxysilane (DTMS) was developed to fabricate a superhydrophobic wood sponge for oil–water separation from natural green renewable balsa wood. First, alkali treatment was performed on balsa wood to remove hemicellulose and lignin to obtain a rough surface and micron-sized pores, preparing flexible balsa wood (FBW). Second, DTMS was grafted onto the surface of FBW via solution impregnation to construct a micro/nano-coating, yielding a dodecyltrimethoxysilane decorated wood sponge (DWS). The DWS surface exhibited a high water contact angle (WCA) of 150.5°, confirming its superhydrophobicity. DWS demonstrated effective oil absorption from oil–water mixtures. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that FBW possessed an interconnected three-dimensional porous network, enabling DWS to achieve high absorption capacities of 12–31 g g −1 for various oils and organic reagents. After 10 cycles, the absorption capacity remained stable, and the WCA was maintained at 143.2°, indicating excellent recyclability. This two-step modification method requires only 5 h of alkali treatment and 2 h of DTMS grafting, and balsa wood is a natural renewable resource. This study provides a potential strategy for developing superhydrophobic materials to address crude oil spills and sewage pollution.

High-resolution imaging under physiological conditions is essential for studying biological mechanisms and disease processes. However, achieving this goal remains challenging due to optical aberrations and scattering from heterogeneous tissue structures, compounded by motion artifacts from awake animals. In this study, we developed a rapid and accurate adaptive optics system called multiplexing digital focus sensing anrobod shaping (MD-FSS) for deep-tissue multiphoton microscopy. Under two-photon excitation, MD-FSS precisely measures the aberrated point spread function in approximately 0.1 s per measurement, effectively compensating for both aberrations and scattering to achieve subcellular resolution in deep tissue. Using MD-FSS integrated with two-photon microscopy, we achieved high-resolution brain imaging through thinned or optically cleared skull windows, two near noninvasive methods to access mouse brain, reaching depths up to 600 μm below the pia in awake behaving mice. Our findings revealed significant differences in microglial functional states and microvascular circulation dynamics between awake and anesthetized conditions, highlighting the importance of studying brain function in awake mice through noninvasive methods. We captured functional imaging of fine neuronal structures at subcellular level in both somatosensory and visual cortices. Additionally, we demonstrated high-resolution imaging of microvascular structures and neurovascular coupling across multiple cortical regions and depths in the awake brain. Our work shows that MD-FSS accurately corrects tissue-induced aberrations and scattering through rapid PSF measurements, enabling near-noninvasive, high-resolution imaging in awake, behaving mice.

A nitrogen plasma-assisted surface engineering strategy was developed to functionalize carbon cloth (CC) and enhance the growth and distribution of Bi₂O₃ nanoparticles for supercapacitor applications. The plasma treatment introduced abundant nitrogen-containing functional groups and defect sites on the CC surface, which promoted uniform nucleation during the subsequent precipitation–calcination process. The resulting Bi₂O₃@NCC composite exhibited a high areal capacitance of 2788.7 mF cm⁻ 2 at 1 mA cm⁻ 2 and retained 64.2% of this value at 20 mA cm⁻ 2 . The electrode also demonstrated good cycling stability, with 80.1% capacitance retention after 5000 charge–discharge cycles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirmed reduced charge transfer resistance and enhanced ion diffusion kinetics. This work demonstrates a practical and scalable plasma-assisted approach for improving both the performance and durability of carbon-based composite electrodes for energy storage applications.

Efficient recovery of uranium from spent nuclear fuel (SNF) reprocessing in ultra-acidic and radiation-intensive environments is critical for sustainable uranium resources management. However, traditional extractants exhibit instability and reduced uranium adsorption capacity under such harsh conditions. Here, we present a metal-free pyrophosphate-incorporated g-C₃N₄ polymer (PCN x ) featuring unsaturated nitrogen sites and pyrophosphate groups for robust uranyl ion coordination. The inherent stability of g-C 3 N 4 endows PCN x with high resistance to concentrated 12 M HNO 3 and 500 kGy radiation. The optimal PCN 1/3 achieves an uranium adsorption capacity of 75.3 mg g −1 in 12 M HNO 3 and a high removal efficiency of 79.1% in a mixed ion solution, with a high distribution coefficient ( K d ) of 18,964 mL g −1 . This study demonstrates a promising proof-of-concept for designing functional polymers that efficiently recovers uranium from ultra-acidic and radiation-intensive conditions during SNF reprocessing.

Background & Aims Dysfunction of the intestinal epithelial barrier (IEB) and gut vascular barrier (GVB) contributes to the development of intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury. Tryptophan (TRP), an essential amino acid, plays a crucial role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis, yet its regulatory effects on the GVB following IR remain unexplored. We aimed to better define the role of TRP in intestinal IR in vivo and in vitro. Methods Mice underwent intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (IR) and were fed control, TRP-recommended (TRP-r), or TRP-sufficient (TRP-s) diets. Fecal metagenomic sequencing analyzed microbial composition, and targeted metabolomics quantified tryptophan and its metabolites in intestinal and serum samples. ILA’s effects on barrier integrity were assessed via tight junction protein expression and FITC-dextran permeability assays. RNA sequencing of intestinal endothelial cells elucidated mechanisms by which ILA modulated GVB function. The STAT3-claudin 2 relationship was validated in vitro by ChIP-qPCR. Results TRP supplementation significantly reshaped the gut microbiota, mitigated tissue damage and enhanced the integrity of both the IEB and GVB. Indole-3-lactic acid (ILA), a key tryptophan metabolite, was identified as an important factor in preserving GVB function. Mechanistically, our results show that the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)/Nrf2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway is essential for ILA-mediated improvement of GVB integrity and downregulation of the pore-forming protein claudin 2. Conclusions Our findings highlight the dual role of ILA in reinforcing both IEB and GVB functions and shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying ILA’s GVB-protective effects. This study implicates that ILA or other AhR-activating metabolites may serve as promising pharmacological agents for alleviating IR-induced intestinal damage. Graphical

The abnormally high expression of glutathione (GSH) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells significantly contributes to chemotherapy resistance by neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS). To address this problem, we developed a nanocomposite probe (micelle@PDA@MnO 2 NPs) which was composed of free radical-labeled micelles as the core, polydopamine (PDA) as the inner shell and MnO 2 nanosheets as the outer shell. In the HCC microenvironment, the over-expressed GSH triggered the decomposition of the MnO 2 shell, releasing Mn 2+ ions, and subsequently, the acidic condition and over-expressed carboxylesterase 2 (CES2) worked together to mediate the controlled release of nitroxide free radicals (i.e., TEMPONE) from the micelle core. With the help of dual-signal electron spin resonance (ESR) detection, it was found that much more free radicals and Mn 2+ were released in hepatoma cells than in normal liver cells, rendering the proposed nanotherapeutic platform specific to HCC and a good candidate for free radical therapy and chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Moreover, the therapy featured an intelligent self-amplified property: the abundant GSH in the tumor microenvironment rapidly activated the decomposition of the nanocomposite and triggered the release of free radical TEMPONE and Mn 2+ , and TEMPONE and Mn 2+ further amplified the oxidative stress to induce tumor apoptosis via ROS generation and GSH depletion. Finally, in combination with three therapy modes (Mn 2+ -mediated CDT, the oxidative stress enhancement effect of TEMPONE, and PDA-based photothermal therapy), significant therapeutic effects including facilitation of HepG2 cell apoptosis and inhibition of tumor growth in the HCC mouse model were achieved.

Recently, many efforts have been dedicated to creating enzyme-mimicking catalysts to replace natural enzymes in practical fields. Inspired by the pathological biomineralization behaviour of l -cystine, in this study, we constructed a laccase-like catalyst through the co-assembly of l -cystine with Cu ions. Structural analysis revealed that the formed catalytic Cu-cystine nanoleaves (Cu-Cys NLs) possess a Cu(I)-Cu(II) electron transfer system similar to that in natural laccase. Reaction kinetic studies demonstrated that the catalyst follows the typical Michaelis-Menten model. Compared with natural laccase, the Cu-Cys NLs exhibit superior stability during long-term incubation under extreme pH, high-temperature or high-salt conditions. Remarkably, the Cu-Cys NLs could be easily recovered and still maintained 76% of their activity after 8 cycles. Finally, this laccase mimic was employed to develop a colorimetric method for epinephrine detection, which achieved a wider linear range (9–455 µmol·L −1 ) and lower limit of detection (2.7 µmol·L −1 ). The Cu-Cys NLs also displayed excellent specificity and sensitivity towards epinephrine in a test based on urine samples.
