A ZIF-based nanocomplex co-loaded with CaO₂ and curcumin to enhance ultrasound-induced cavitation. • Porous ZIF initiates cavitation; CaO₂ amplifies it to enhance tumor disruption. • Amplified cavitation releases antigens; curcumin inhibits CAFs; Ca(OH)₂ neutralizes acidosis to reprogram immunity. Immunotherapy for colorectal cancer remains challenging due to insufficient immunogenic cell death (ICD), poor immune cell infiltration, and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Ultrasound-induced cavitation generates localized high-energy microjets and elevated temperatures, offering a promising approach for disrupting tumor tissues and inducing burst antigen release. However, conventional cavitation enhancers, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), suffer from limited bubble nucleation efficiency, which reduces their therapeutic impact. To address this limitation, we developed ZIF nanocomplexes co-loaded with calcium peroxide (CaO 2 ) and curcumin. Upon ultrasound activation, the porous ZIF framework rapidly initiates cavitation while releasing its cargo. CaO 2 reacts with interstitial fluid to produce oxygen and calcium hydroxide. The generated oxygen bubbles amplify cavitation intensity, thereby enhancing tumor tissue disruption and curcumin-mediated inhibition of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) barriers. Concurrently, calcium hydroxide neutralizes tumor acidosis, reprograms the tumor microenvironment and promotes cytotoxic T-cell infiltration. Unlike conventional acoustic cavitation, this approach utilizes self-amplified bubble dynamics to induce robust antigen release and ICD. The synergistic integration of cavitation-enhanced physical disruption, CAFs inhibition, and immune modulation achieved significant tumor suppression in colorectal cancer models with minimal systemic toxicity, establishing a novel paradigm for ultrasound-driven cancer immunotherapy. The limited recovery and high sensitivity of free enzymes to aggressive environments constrain their use in industrial processes. Metal-organic frameworks offer a promising protective matrix, with zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) widely studied as an enzyme immobilization carrier. However, enzyme deactivation frequently occurs due to the harsh synthetic conditions, which collectively compromise the structural integrity and catalytic activity of the biomacromolecule. In this paper, a one-pot synthesis strategy was employed to prepare polyethylene glycol (PEG)-mediated ZIF-8 immobilized catalase (CAT). Structural and morphological analyses using XRD, SEM, BET, and other techniques confirmed the successful encapsulation of CAT within the MOF matrix. The introduction of PEG as a surfactant significantly enhanced the stability and catalytic efficiency of CAT, resulting in an increased Michaelis constant (K M , 2.28 mM) and maximum reaction rate (V max , 33.81 μM/s). This study provides an effective approach to improve enzyme performance through MOF-based immobilization, offering valuable insights for advancing biocatalysis in industrial applications.

ZIF-67-derived Co 3 O 4 /MXene Schottky heterojunction is constructed successfully. • MXene concentrates CO 2 molecules and participates in surface redox reactions. • Schottky heterointerface improves photogenerated carrier separation. • Co 3 O 4 /MXene Schottky heterojunction achieves effectively photocatalytic CO 2 reduction to CO. The escalating emission of carbon dioxide necessitates the urgent development of efficient CO 2 conversion technologies. Herein, a novel Co 3 O 4 /MXene Schottky heterojunction photocatalyst was rationally designed and synthesized, where Co 3 O 4 is derived from ZIF-67 and anchored onto MXene nanosheets. The composite demonstrates high activity in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction, achieving a yield rate of 58 μmol g −1 h −1 for CO using triethanolamine (TEOA) as an electron donor, while maintaining excellent stability over multiple cycles. The enhanced performance stems from the Schottky junction between Co 3 O 4 and MXene, which establishes a built-in electric field that drives efficient charge separation and directional carrier flow. Additionally, MXene acts as a cocatalyst that not only concentrates CO 2 molecules near active sites but also participates in surface redox reactions. This work offers an effective strategy for designing high-performance photocatalysts for sustainable solar fuel production. This study proposes an interface-engineered strategy for constructing robust ZIF-8/PPSU double-layer membranes, aiming to achieve high-performance hydrogen separation. A customized seed implantation technique was employed to ensure precise anchoring of ZIF-8 seeds within the micro/nano-structured surface layer of a polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) base membrane. This strategy enabled the subsequent epitaxial growth of a continuous, defect-free ZIF-8 separation layer on an alumina-supported PPSU substrate. The method effectively engineered the organic-inorganic interface, converting weak physical contacts into a tightly integrated heterostructure. The resulting ZIF-8/PPSU membranes exhibited outstanding hydrogen sieving performance, significantly surpassing that of the pure PPSU counterpart. Under optimal conditions, the membrane demonstrated a hydrogen permeability of 16,211.03 barrer, with selectivities of 7.06 for H 2 /CO 2 , 23.15 for H 2 /N 2 , and 28.91 for H 2 /CH 4 , thereby exceeding the Robeson upper bound. The enhanced interfacial adhesion can be attributed to a synergistic combination of factors. The seeded micro-topography provides a mechanical interlocking effect. Van der Waals forces and hydrogen-bond interactions are present between PPSU polar groups (sulfone/ether) and ZIF-8 nodes/linkers. Seamless epitaxial continuity is maintained during secondary growth. This work demonstrates that rational interface engineering via seed implantation is an effective route to eliminate non-selective voids and achieve superior gas separation efficiency in MOF/polymer composite membranes.

Due
to their unique electronic structures and polymorphic
characteristics,
transition metal sulfur compounds and their composite materials have
a variety of functions and excellent prospects, which have attracted
widespread attention this year, especially in research and application
fields such as energy conversion and storage. Among them, the composition
and structure of monovalent and binary transition metal sulfur/selenium
compounds are relatively less complex. Their electrochemical and other
related properties can easily be effectively regulated and optimized
due to changes in parameters such as material composition, microstructure,
and electronic structure. In the present work, a two-step hydrothermal
route was used to construct a multiphase ZnS/ZnSe–MXene heterogeneous
composite hybrid material via two-step hydrothermal treatment using
ZIF-7 as the precursor. The obtained multidimensional hybrid architecture
featuring a unique mesoporous network provides a specific surface
area of 10.54 m 2 g –1 , with an average
pore size of 3.68 nm. This optimized porous structure effectively
facilitates electrolyte penetration and exposes a considerable number
of redox-active sites, enabling the ZnS/ZnSe@MXene electrode to exhibit
a gravimetric specific capacitance of 1047.2 F g –1 at a current density of 1 A g –1 with a three-electrode
set up, and after experiencing up to 10,000 cycles at a high current
density of 10 A g –1 , its capacitance retention rate
can still reach 88.78% of the initial capacitance. In addition, an
asymmetric supercapacitor assembled by using ZnS/ZnSe@MXene serving
as the positive electrode and straw-derived homemade activated carbon
(AC) acting as the negative electrode can achieve an energy density
of 15.5 Wh kg –1 (power density: 750 W kg –1 ), where energy and power densities are normalized to the total mass
of active materials in the positive and negative electrodes. This
work confirms that ZnS/ZnSe@MXene hybrid materials have broad prospects
as electrode materials for advanced energy storage systems.

Polymeric membranes for CO 2 capture often face a trade-off between permeability and selectivity. Here, crown ethers were introduced as molecular shuttles for CO 2 transport by in situ encapsulation within ZIF-8 nanocages. Three crown ethers (18-crown-6 (18C6), diaza-18-crown-6 (DAC), and dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DBC)) were incorporated into ZIF-8 during crystallization and then used as low-loading fillers in Pebax mixed-matrix membranes. Structural characterization by XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDS, and BET confirmed that ZIF-8 crystallinity was preserved, while pore volume, linker rotation, and filler dispersion were effectively tuned. These modifications narrowed transport pathways and strengthened polymer–filler interactions, improving CO 2 separation performance. At an optimal loading of 1 wt% 18C6@ZIF-8, the membrane doubled CO 2 permeability relative to neat Pebax and increased CO 2 /N 2 selectivity from 55.5 to 85.8, surpassing the 2008 Robeson upper bound. The membrane also maintained stable performance under feed pressures up to 20 bar and exceeded the 2019 Robeson upper bound. Mixed-gas testing showed a CO 2 permeability of 158.3 Barrer and CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 66.0, outperforming neat Pebax. Transport analysis revealed that the enhancement mainly arose from improved diffusion selectivity, with a minor contribution from solubility selectivity. Among the fillers, 18C6@ZIF-8 provided the best permeability–selectivity balance, demonstrating a promising strategy for advanced CO 2 -selective mixed-matrix membranes. This approach paves the way for the development of next-generation mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) with enhanced performance for CO 2 capture and a range of other gas-separation applications.

The recovery of gasoline vapor is still a major challenge in the petrochemical industry. In this study, a zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) membrane has been developed and first applied to gasoline vapor recovery. Zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF-8) membranes were fabricated by a facile solvothermal seed growth method on ZrO2 supports. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis measurements were conducted to study the morphologies, structure, and physical and chemical properties of ZIF-8 membranes. The effects of trans-membrane pressure drop, operating temperature, feed concentration, and stage cut on the separation performances of ZIF-8 membranes were systematically investigated. At 293 K, the ZIF-8 membrane showed an optimum n-hexane (n-C6H14) permeance of 7.16 × 10–8 mol/(m2·s·Pa) with the corresponding separation factor of 2.46 for the nitrogen/n-hexane model mixtures at a trans-membrane pressure drop of 0.05 MPa, a stage cut of 0.293, and a n-hexane volume fraction of 30%. Moreover, the separation factor for the multicomponent alkanes decreased with increasing the number of n-alkanes because of competitive adsorption of the n-alkanes in membrane pores. Experimental results indicated that the ZIF-8 membrane is a fairly promising candidate for the application in gasoline vapor recovery.

The development of polyamide nanofiltration membrane is hindered by its low permeability. Rationally designing thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes through adding filler to polyamide layer is a promising method for improved nanofiltration performance. However, regulating the morphology and polymerization process of polyamide layer through the design of filler morphology is challenging. In this work, we designed a ZIF-8 nanowire regulated TFN membrane. Different from the reported nanomaterials, the irregular surface of ZIF-8 nanowire is conducive to forming crumpled membrane surface by controlling the interfacial polymerization process. Meanwhile, ZIF-8 nanowire can construct net-like channels in polyamide matrix for improved water permeability. The influence of ZIF-8 nanowire on morphology, chemical property, and desalination performance of TFN membrane were studied. As a result, the optimized TFN-Z2 membrane with ZIF-8 nanowire loading of 0.10 w/v% shows a flux of 6.42 LMH bar −1 , which increased by 189 % than that of the polyamide membrane. Meanwhile, the TFN-Z2 membrane maintained excellent rejection performance for salts (93.60 %, 91.20 %, 91.20 %, and 78.60 % for Na 2 SO 4 , MgSO 4 , MgCl 4 , and NaCl, respectively). The results can provide a foundation for the preparation of more advanced membranes.

Meltable metal–organic frameworks (MOF) are essential for the formation of MOF glasses, which have emerged as a new family of functional materials offering promising potential for applications in gas separation, luminescence, energy storage, and beyond. Herein, the synthesis of iron-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) crystals, specifically Fe3(Im)6(HIm)2, where Im is imidazolate, is reported. Upon the substitution of some Im linkers with a secondary ligand, 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole (dmbIm), it was found that such substitution induces the formation of new phases: one phase exhibits meltability and subsequent glass formation, while another phase [Fe3(Im)1.56(dmbIm)4.44(HIm)2] is non-meltable. Through structural characterizations, the configuration of the tetrahedral [Fe-linkers] units was revealed to be crucial in determining the meltability of Fe-ZIF. The incorporation of a large secondary ligand hinders the occurrence of melting. This work provides an insight into how ligands affect the accessibility of the liquid state of MOFs, showing a practical strategy for designing meltable MOFs.

The superhydrophobic membranes with low-cost, eco-friendly, and high-performance is a current research focus. In this paper, ZIF-8 particles are synthesized at room temperature and subsequently mixed with graphene oxide with controlled proportions. The resulting composite membrane is fabricated on a fibrous substrate via vacuum filtration. By tailoring the surface microstructure, the wettability of the composite film is effectively modulated. Experimental results demonstrate that the membrane exhibits superhydrophobicity, with a water contact angle of 156° and a separation flux of 31,428.77 L·m −2 ·h −1 for low-viscosity oils. The membrane shows excellent separation efficiency (>99 %) across oils with varying viscosities. Furthermore, the separation performance remains stable, with efficiency above 99 % after 20 cycles and above 98 % after a 30-day long-term test. The combination of facile preparation, environmental friendliness, and outstanding separation performance highlights the potential of this composite membrane for low-cost, high-efficiency oil-water separation applications.

A highly sensitive fiber-optic urea sensor was designed and experimentally demonstrated based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect and metal-organic zeolite framework (MOF), [zeolite imidazole skeleton-8 (ZIF-8)]/urease modification. The SPR effect was excited by plating gold film on the thin core fiber (TCF) in multimode-thin core-multimode fiber (MMF) structure, which behaved high refractive index sensitivity. The ZIF-8/urease composite film was grown on the gold film by rapid aqueous phase synthesis method, in which the ZIF-8 could immobilize more urease and made urease and urea fully contact. Since the urease catalyzed urea hydrolysis would change the refractive index, the measurement of urea concentration was realized with high sensitivity and good selectivity. Experimental results showed that the urea measurement sensitivity of the proposed sensor could reach 6 nm/mM within the concentration range of 1–7 mM, which has great application potential in the field of human health monitoring.
