The high UV absorption of SiC and its large refractive index difference with photosensitive resin hinder fabrication via photopolymerization additive manufacturing. In this study, SiC powders were oxidized to form a SiC@SiO 2 core-shell structure, and two types of photoinitiators were combined to enhance the curing behavior of SiC slurries. Moreover, introducing polysiloxane into the resin further improved the curing ability and solid content. For fine SiC powders, slurries with up to 70 wt% solid content were successfully fabricated, achieving a curing thickness of 63 μm at 8 s exposure. Printed green bodies were pyrolyzed at 1100 °C, and SiC nanowires were in-situ formed. The resulting SiC@SiO 2 /SiOC ceramics exhibited a flexural strength of 157.8 MPa and an open porosity of 5.1%, among the highest reported values. The proposed methodology paves the way for the cost-effective production of high-performance SiC-based and other advanced non-oxide high-temperature ceramic components with high light absorption.

The crucial role of modified Beta zeolite during lignin CFP was reported. • A series of Beta zeolites with porosity or acidity modification were synthesized. • CFP of the model compound of lignin (ɑ-OH-PPE) was performed for mechanism study. • Correlation analysis between zeolite structures and MAHs production was investigated. • Mesopores in Beta aided C β -O bond cleavage; Cu-loading facilitated decarbonylation. As the only renewable aromatic polymer in lignocellulose, lignin accounts for 40% of biomass energy density. However, its complex three-dimensional structure and high thermal stability lead to dominant coke formation and low selectivity for monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) in conventional pyrolysis. This study aims to elucidate the influence of pore characteristics and acid distribution on MAHs selectivity during lignin catalytic fast pyrolysis (CFP) by modifying Beta zeolites through alkali treatment and metal loading, which provide a novel strategy for lignin valorization. Beta zeolites were modified using different alkali solutions (TEAOH, TPAOH, Na 2 CO 3 , NaOH) and concentrations (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 M), as well as various metal species (Co, Ga, Zn, Cu) and loadings (0.5, 1, 2, 3 wt%). Results showed that hierarchical Beta treated with 0.3 M Na 2 CO 3 achieved a bio-oil yield of 9.5 wt% and increased MAHs selectivity from 17.8 area% (for parent Beta) to 28.9 area%. 1 wt% Cu-loaded Beta exhibited 23.7 area% MAHs selectivity, where altered acid distribution suppressed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon formation. Then, an β-O-4 model compound (α-OH-PPE) was employed to analyze bond cleavage pathways in lignin CFP, and correlation ( R 2 ) analysis was conducted to bridge the gap between zeolite structural parameters and MAHs production. It was revealed that mesopores facilitated C β -O bond cleavage, while Cu-modification accelerated decarbonylation of acetophenone to generate toluene. Correlation analysis demonstrated that synergistic improvement in bio-oil yield and quality relied on dual “acid-pore” regulation, requiring tailored catalyst design for target products. The thermal conversion technology has revealed new potential for the resource utilization of waste plastics. This study systematically investigates the pyrolysis mechanisms of polyethylene (PE) and real-world waste plastic bags (PBs) by integrating multiple analytical approaches, including thermogravimetric analysis, thermodynamic evaluation, and comprehensive characterization of gaseous, liquid, and solid products. The effects of key parameters including temperature and reaction atmosphere are thoroughly examined. With respect to the reaction atmosphere, kinetic analyses based on conversion-dependent methods (e.g., Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO), Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose (KAS)) consistently demonstrate that CO 2 significantly influences the pyrolysis process by elevating the apparent activation energy. When the pyrolysis atmosphere is changed from N 2 to CO 2 , the activation energy of PE increases from 133.54 to 141.54 kJ/mol to 162.3–171.5 kJ/mol. However, the activation energy of PBs remains between 140 and 150 kJ/mol. CO 2 can also reduce the carbon deposition rate in PBs residue from 9.64% to 1.77%. Furthermore, CO 2 selectively modulates the decomposition of PE by enhancing the formation of short-chain hydrocarbons and increasing the yield of gaseous products. Notably, a similar regulatory effect is also observed in the pyrolysis of waste PBs, a complex multicomponent system. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing and controlling the pyrolysis of real-world mixed plastic wastes.

A ternary CA/Ur/DMF additive system enables effective particle engineering of Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ phosphors via spray pyrolysis. • Synergistic additive decomposition promotes particle densification and controlled crystallization behavior. • Uniform, dense spherical particles with reduced internal defects are achieved using the ternary additive strategy. • An additive-assisted strategy is proposed for microstructural optimization of functional oxide powders. This study examines the role of organic additives in regulating particle formation, microstructure, and photoluminescence (PL) performance of Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ phosphors prepared by microdroplet spray pyrolysis. Citric acid (CA), urea (Ur), and DMF were introduced as single and ternary additives. Thermal behavior, phase composition, and particle characteristics were systematically analyzed using TG, XRD, SEM, TEM, and particle size analysis. The CA\Ur\DMF ternary system yields the highest PL intensity and the smallest crystallite size (~24 nm), outperforming single-additive systems. TG results indicate synergistic decomposition behavior that promotes particle densification and suggests a reduction in structural defects. Morphological observations reveal uniform, dense spherical particles with homogeneous elemental distribution. These results demonstrate an effective additive-assisted strategy for microstructural control and performance optimization of phosphor powders.

In-situ reductive remediation is promising for groundwater treatment due to the natural abundance and stability of sulfides. This study developed co-pyrolysis biochars from wormwood (W) and lobster shells (L) to enhance sulfide-driven nitrobenzene (NB) reduction. The biochars were produced at varying W:L ratios (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3 and 0:1) and pyrolyzed under 700°C. The co-pyrolyzed W1L1 (W: L ratio = 1:1) significantly enhanced the reduction removal capacity of NB compared to biochar from single biomass, achieving 99.2% NB removal (sulfide: 2 mM, pH: 9) with the pseudo-first-order kinetic constant (k obs = 0.021 h -1 ) for the reduction reaction stage. The enhancement mechanism involves: (i) NB pre-adsorption via microporosity and π–π interactions, (ii) The synergistic contributions—wormwood provided adsorption sites, while lobster shells introduced graphitic nitrogen (facilitating electron transfer) and oxygen-containing groups (promoting sulfide activation). (iii) The enhancement in electron transfer ability due to the high electrochemical surface area (0.123 cm 2 ) and low charge transfer resistance (R ct = 150.8 Ω). Furthermore, the applicability of co-pyrolysis biochar in NB removal was demonstrated across varied reaction conditions and groundwater environmental factors. The reduction pathway of NB proceeded via a three-step, two-electron transfer process, ultimately yielding aniline, with nitrosobenzene detected as an intermediate. These findings establish co-pyrolysis biochars as sustainable materials for in-situ NB remediation.

This study proposes a novel and sustainable approach for the catalytic pyrolysis of microalgae to produce monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) via algae-based modified biochar catalysts with variant porosity and N content. The effects of introducing of different activators (KOH, KHCO 3 , CH 3 COOK, K 2 CO 3 ) on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance of the catalysts were systematically investigated. The results indicated that the addition of the activators enhances the specific surface area, porosity, and the abundance of O-/N-containing functional groups with catalytic activity in the biochar catalyst, thereby significantly enhancing the performance of catalyst. Among them, SAC-KOH exhibited a superior porous structure and catalytic effect. The modified biochar catalysts markedly promoted MAHs formation, with benzene, toluene, and xylene identified as the major products. With the addition of the SAC-KOH catalyst, the total relative content of benzene, toluene, and xylene can increase from 8.16 % to 36.53 %. Furthermore, to gain deeper insight into the catalytic conversion mechanism of microalgae to MAHs using modified biochar catalysts, the product transition pathway was explored in depth and comprehensively with soybean protein, sucrose, and peanut oil as the main model compounds of microalgae. These findings demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of modified biochar catalysts in enhancing MAHs production from microalgae, providing a promising strategy for aromatic generation.

In this study, a bio-oil model compound of walnut shell pyrolysis oil was selected. The microemulsions of diesel and model compound were produced using Span80 and Tween 80 as surfactants. The microemulsions were quantificationally analyzed to investigate the solubilization capacity of bio-oil characteristic components in diesel. The effects of surfactant concentration and initial volume ratio of bio-oil model compound to diesel (B/D ratio) on the solubilization capacity of bio-oil characteristic components in diesel were investigated. The heating value, kinematic viscosity, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis of microemulsion were also conducted. Experimental results indicated that the suitable concentration of surfactant was 0.3 mol/L–0.45 mol/L, and the optimum B/D ratio was 4:12 for the bio-oil model compound. The dissolubility of m-cresol and guaiacol in microemulsion was much better than that of water and acetic acid. The heating value and the kinematic viscosity of microemulsion decreased slightly as the B/D ratio increased. Increasing the surfactant concentration contributed to a more pronounced increase in the kinetic viscosity and a significant decrease in the heating value. The influence of surfactant concentration on the fuel properties and thermogravimetric characteristics was stronger than that of B/D ratio.

Lignocellulosic biomass possesses significant potential as a carbon-based renewable energy source. Fast pyrolysis can convert biomass into valuable derivatives, though achieving high selectivity for target compounds remains a challenge. In this study, acid-leached slag (ALS) derived from spent Al 2 O 3 -based catalysts was employed as a catalyst to investigate its effect on the pyrolysis products of water hyacinth (WH). Under optimal conditions of a WH/ALS ratio of 1:3 at 500 °C, the bio-oil yield reached 70.81 wt%, and furfural yield achieved 97.37 area% with a concentration of 83.96 mg/mL. This enhancement is attributed to the synergistic catalytic activity of Brønsted and Lewis acid sites on ALS, which substantially improves the directional selectivity toward furfural. Concurrently, biochar undergoes aromatization, forming aromatic ring structures that promote graphitization, while the proportion of combustible syngas rises to 99.84%. Additionally, N-containing heterocyclics from the bio-oil are redistributed into the biochar (as graphitic-N, pyrrolic-N, and pyridinic-N) and syngas. This study demonstrates an effective strategy for simultaneously valorizing WH and ALS, offering a novel approach for producing high-value chemicals through catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass.

Tetracycline (TC), a pervasive antibiotic contaminant in aquatic systems, presents critical ecological and human health threats. This study pioneers a sustainable remediation strategy by fabricating a metal-free biochar catalyst (PAC) from waste apple tree branches for persulfate (PDS) activation toward TC degradation. Among PACs pyrolyzed at 500–700°C, PAC-700 demonstrated exceptional catalytic activity, attributable to its maximized defect density and enriched surface carbonyl groups. Strong linear correlations between the rate constant (log( k )) and both I D / I G ratio ( R 2 = 0.823) and C O content ( R 2 = 0.998) suggest their potential influence on PDS activation. Mechanistic investigations elucidated a dual radical/non-radical pathway: radical species (SO 4 − , OH, and O 2 − ) and non-radical processes ( 1 O 2 , electron transfer), with 1 O 2 playing the dominant role to TC degradation. Crucially, C O groups were identified as pivotal active sites for 1 O 2 generation ( R 2 = 0.866 between C O and 1 O 2 contribution). Electrochemical analyses demonstrated that PAC materials prepared at higher pyrolysis temperatures exhibit enhanced electron transfer behavior, while LC-MS and Fukui index calculations mapped degradation pathways and reactive sites. Post-treatment toxicity assays validated significant ecological risk mitigation. This work advances green antibiotic remediation by synergizing biomass valorization with non-radical catalysis.

Owing to inadequate interface contact between carbon and aluminum, enhancing the Al/C interface is crucial for the fabrication of high-performance Al matrix composites. This study selected polyvinyl butyral (PVB) with excellent dispersion properties as the carbon source, simultaneously introducing silver to achieve synergistic reinforcement between silver and carbon in Al matrix composites, offering a novel reinforcement approach for Al matrix composites. The Al–16Ag–C composite is fabricated through the in situ pyrolysis of PVB followed by hot-pressing sintering. Subsequently, the effect of temperature on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the composite is investigated. Microstructural characterization demonstrates the formation of two alloy phases, namely Ag 2 Al and Al 4 C 3 , within the Al–16Ag–C composite. The alloy phases, distributed at the grain boundaries, enhance the material’s strength by impeding dislocation motion, increasing dislocation density within the matrix, and limiting grain growth. The Al–16Ag–C composite, sintered at 630 °C, exhibits a remarkable ultimate tensile strength of 481 MPa and an elongation of 16.84%, representing a significant enhancement compared to pure Al.

Waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) are an essential component in electronic waste (e-waste), and contain a number of valuable metals (e.g., Cu, Sn) as well as non-metal resources (e.g., brominated epoxy resin). Currently, most of the non-metals are disposed of in landfills, causing environmental problems. In this study, a combination of pyrolysis and physical separation is proposed to recover valuable resources, including both metals and non-metals, from WPCBs. The WPCBs were pyrolyzed at 700°C under a nitrogen atmosphere. Pyrolysis oil and gas can be reused as fuel for the pyrolysis of WPCBs. Metals like copper, tin, and iron in the pyrolysis residues were separated by selective crushing, sieving, gravity separation, and magnetic separation. Finally, rich copper (Cu 82.21%, Sn 1.47%), rich tin (Cu 53.20%, Sn 13.43%), rich iron (Fe > 63%), and non-metal products were obtained, and the total recoveries of copper, tin, and iron were 95%, 86%, and 76%, respectively.

A novel single-source precursor was synthesized to prepare HfC x N 1-x /SiC multiphase ceramics by using hafnium chloride (HfCl 4 ), diallylamine (DAA) and polycarbosilane (PCS). We conducted an investigation of the synthesis process, polymer-to-ceramic conversion, as well as the microstructure and phase evolution of HfC x N 1-x /SiC multiphase ceramics with different levels of SiC content. The results showed that the core-shell particles of HfC x N 1-x -carbon were embedded homogeneously in the β-SiC matrix which is beneficial for preventing grain growth and improving oxidation resistance . Based on data from oxidation tests, the ceramics improved the oxidation temperature and remained stable at a high temperature (1500 °C) with oxidation layer formation on the surface. Due to the highly cross-linked structure without oxygen, high ceramic yield, homogeneous composition and excellent oxidation resistance of the pyrolysis product, the as-prepared precursor is a promising material for making high-performance composite ceramics.
