Although reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-based photocatalyst composites have been intensively developed during the past few years, the influence of reduction extent of rGO on the photocatalytic performance of the rGO-based composite has virtually not been investigated due to some technical limitations, such as the poor water dispersibility of rGO and low reduction selectivity of the hydrothermal method, which make it difficult to control the reduction extent of rGO in these composites. Herein, we used a facile room-temperature method to synthesize Ag/AgX (X = Cl, Br)/rGO photocatalyst composites as a model to study the effect of reduction extent of rGO on the photocatalytic performance of the photocatalyst. It was found that the photocatalytic activities of both Ag/AgCl/PrGO and Ag/AgBr/PrGO systems had an optimized threshold of the reduction extent of photoreduced GO (PrGO). More importantly, due to the different conductive band values of AgCl and AgBr, the optimized thresholds in the two systems were at different PrGO reduction extents, based on which we proposed that the favorable energy band matching between AgX and PrGO in the two systems played a crucial role in obtaining high photocatalysis performance. Besides, the photocatalytic reaction of the Ag/AgBr based system was confirmed to be a pseudo-second-order kinetics reaction rather than pseudo-first-order kinetics reaction. The new insights presented in this work provided useful information on the design and development of a more sophisticated photocatalyst, and can also be applied to many other applications.

A prototype of fluorescence sensor, based on 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone (1,4-DHAQ) derivative and 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (Fmoc-Cl) co-modified Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticals (MNPs) (denoted as 1,4-DHAQ/Fmoc-Cl co-modified Fe 3 O 4 MNPs), has been achieved via solvothermal synthesis of amine-functionalized Fe 3 O 4 MNPs and subsequent surface co-modification of 1,4-DHAQ derivative and Fmoc-Cl onto the Fe 3 O 4 MNPs. The 1,4-DHAQ/Fmoc-Cl co-modified Fe 3 O 4 MNPs can be used for not only simple rapid qualitative detection of Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ and Hg 2+ in aqueous solution, but also quantitative analysis of the above four heavy metal ions with lower detection limits of 8 × 10 −9 , 1.5 × 10 −8 , 10 −8 and 10 −8 M, respectively. This is the first prototype of fluorescence sensor that has potentials in the detection of Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ and Hg 2+ in aqueous solutions and even in drinking water . The sensor designing idea might be extended to other multifunctional chemosensors .

Degradation of diethyl phthalate (DEP) by ultraviolet/persulfate (UV/PS) process at different reaction conditions was evaluated. DEP can be degraded effectively via this process. Both tert-butyl (TBA) and methanol (MeOH) inhibited the degradation of DEP with MeOH having a stronger impact than TBA, suggesting sulfate radical ( ) and hydroxyl radical (HO ) both existed in the reaction systems studied. The second-order rate constants of DEP reacting with and HO were calculated to be ( 6.4 ± 0.3 ) × 10 7 M −1 s −1 and ( 3.7 ± 0.1 ) × 10 9 M −1 s −1 , respectively. To further access the potential degradation mechanism in this system, the pseudo-first-order rate constants (k o ) and the radical contributions were modeled using a simple steady-state kinetic model involving and HO . Generally, HO had a greater contribution to DEP degradation than . The k o of DEP increased as PS dosages increased when PS dosages were below 1.9 mM. However, it decreased with increasing initial DEP concentrations, which might be due to the radical scavenging effect of DEP. The k o values in acidic conditions were higher than those in alkaline solutions, which was probably caused by the increasing concentration of hydrogen phosphate (with higher scavenging effects than dihydrogen phosphate) from the phosphate buffer as pH values rose. Natural organic matter and bicarbonate dramatically suppressed the degradation of DEP by scavenging and HO . Additionally, the presence of chloride ion (Cl − ) promoted the degradation of DEP at low Cl − concentrations (0.25–1 mM). Finally, the proposed degradation pathways were illustrated.

As an emerging alternative to perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), 6:2 chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether sulfonate (6:2 Cl-PFAES) is associated with male reproductive disorders, yet its testicular targets and mechanisms remain unclear. This study combined in vivo exposure of male C57BL/6J mice (0, 4, 40, and 400 μg/L for 18 weeks) and in vitro assays in primary Leydig cells to demonstrate that 6:2 Cl-PFAES dose-dependently reduced sperm count and serum/testicular testosterone, accompanied by testicular interstitial vacuolation. Transcriptomics and metabolomics demonstrated the concurrent significant enrichment of autophagy pathways and disruption of lipid metabolism. Mechanistically, 6:2 Cl-PFAES suppressed expressions of Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), ras-related GTP binding protein 7 (RAB7), and deacetylation of forkhead box class O1 (FOXO1), thereby impairing lipophagy flux and promoting lipid droplets accumulation. Molecular docking indicated comparable binding affinity of 6:2 Cl-PFAES and PFOS to SIRT1 (−10.4 kcal/mol), and further research demonstrated that 6:2 Cl-PFAES reduced the deacetylation activity of SIRT1. Crucially, Sirt1 overexpression in transgenic mice (Sirt1TG) or pharmacological activation of SIRT1 (SRT1720) and RAB7 (ML-098) rescued testosterone synthesis and restored lipophagy flux. This study identifies the SIRT1–FOXO1–RAB7 axis as a core target for 6:2 Cl-PFAES-induced suppression of testosterone biosynthesis via lipophagy dysregulation, providing critical molecular insights for assessing the reproductive risks of PFOS alternatives.
