With the advancement of nanotechnology, various nanocomposites have been applied in the diagnostics and treatment of cancer. We synthetized FePt nanoparticles which were assembled on the surface of graphene oxide (GO). These novel FePt/GO nanosheets simultaneously act as a chemotherapy drug and enhance radiosensitivity. In this study, transmission electron microscope, dynamic light scattering, X-ray photoelectron spectroscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize surface morphology and chemical composition of FePt/GO nanosheets (NSs). Their cytotoxicity in various cancer and normal cells was evaluated by cell counting kit-8 assay, and their effects on radiosensitization were determined by colony formation assay. To explore the underlying mechanisms, we measured the intracellular reactive oxygen species levels and autophagy formation. Monodansylcadaverine-staining, Western Blotting and ultrastructure analysis were utilized to assess autophagy. The results demonstrated that FePt/GO NSs not only selectively suppressed the proliferation of cancer cells, but also increased their radiosensitization. Moreover, FePt/GO NSs induced autophagy, which might result in promoted sensibilization of radiotherapy. In conclusion, with good safety and efficacy, FePt/GO NSs are safe and effective to suppress proliferation, enhance radiosensitization and induce autophagy of human non-small cell lung cancer cells. They are potential for the treatment of lung cancer.

The occurrence of numerous antibiotics, such as sulfonamides (SAs), in environmental water has recently heightened concerns in consideration of their potential threat to human health and aquatic ecosystems. The removal of pharmaceuticals by adsorption comprises some of the most promising techniques because of their easy regeneration, low cost, and high efficiency. In this work, MIL-101(Cr)@GO, with a high surface area, was synthesized. Its adsorption properties toward three SAs were examined in batch adsorption experiments to probe the underlying factors of adsorption behavior and the mechanism for the first time. The pronounced factors that influenced the adsorption and removal process were investigated. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms were studied in order to characterize the operation. The adsorption kinetics demonstrated that the adsorption process would match the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Furthermore, the adsorption was spontaneous, entropy was decreased, and the process was exothermic, and the equilibrium data was more appropriate described by the Freundlich isotherm model. Moreover, the adsorption–desorption of MIL-101(Cr)@GO could be consecutively cycled at least five times. MIL-101(Cr)@GO exhibited remarkable removal efficiency compared to MIL-100(Fe), MIL-101(Cr), and other adsorbents. These results demonstrated that MIL-101(Cr)@GO would be a promising adsorbent for the removal of sulfonamides from water samples and even for environmental protection.

Graphene oxide-based nanofiltration membrane, have attracted tremendous interest due to the highly permeability and excellent rejection behavior. Here we show that a novel low-pressure nanofiltration membranes (LPMs) comprising MoS 2 nano-supporting spacer among the graphene oxide (GO) layers, which were fabricated by forward pressure-assisted assembly and heat-treatment. The resultant GO/MoS 2 LPMs exhibited a pure water permeability about 10.2 ± 1.68 L/(m 2 ·h·bar) at low pressure (2 bar), which was much higher ( about 13.6 times) than that of pristine GO membrane (~0.75 L/(m 2 h bar)). Meanwhile, high rejection to different charged dyes ( ≥ 95%) and moderate rejection for salts (43.2%, 65.2%, 26.5% and 24.3% for NaCl, Na 2 SO 4 , MgCl 2 and MgSO 4 , respectively) was remained. The satisfied filtration performance was attributed to the loose interlayer-structure of composite membrane and the cooperative effect of Gibbs-Donnan exclusion mechanism and steric hindrance. In addition, the GO/MoS 2 LPMs presented satisfied stability and antifouling properties. Experimental results and molecular dynamics simulation results demonstrated that the increase of vertical distance between GO sheets by introducing the MoS 2 nanoparticles could accelerate the water transport in the channels. This paper was not only provided a new design idea for adjusting the channel size of GO membrane, but also gave a promise of GO-based membrane for practical wastewater treatment and purification.

In this work, aptamer (Apt) immobilized on sensing interface utilizing one step co-electrodeposition technology was first proposed and applied in an electrochemical aptasensor to detect organophosphorus pesticide. This method was simple and facile, solving the complicated problem of aptasensor preparation process. Specifically, in the preparation of the electrodeposition solution, graphene oxide (GO) was used to connect aptamer modified with NH 2 , offering the basis for aptamer fixation. And, the introduction of Cu nanoparticles (CuNPs) into the Apt-GO mixed solution enhanced the conductivity of the electrodeposition film, leading to superior electrochemical performance. In addition, during electrodeposition of the prepared solution on screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) surface by CV technology, GO was electrochemically reduced to reduced graphene oxide (rGO), providing better electrical conductivity. The Apt/rGO-CuNPs composite coating was characterized using SEM and CV technique. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the low detection limit of 0.003 nM for profenofos, 0.3 nM for phorate, 0.03 nM for isocarbophos and 0.3 nM for omethoate were obtained. The aptasensor was also successfully applied for the analysis of phorate in vegetables. Because the developed aptasensor with simple preparation process had extremely good stability, high selectivity and great sensitivity, it would show great potential for other fields.

In order to remove the humic acid (HA) from the drinking water efficiently, novel quaternary Fe 3 O 4 /TiO 2 –N-GO (FTNG) sonocatalysts with different amounts of Fe 3 O 4 were simply synthesized, and a sono-photocatalytic system was used by combining photocatalysis and ultrasound processes. A series of characterizations were performed to confirm the successful synthesis of FTNG and some of its properties, and the results showed that FTNG with an appropriate amount of Fe 3 O 4 can extend the range of light absorption to over 400nm (UV-vis spectra) and improve the separation efficiency of electrons and holes (Photocurrent responses). Raman spectra indicated the reduction of GO. Sono-photocatalytic performance was investigated under visible light irradiation and the effect of ultrasound was studied. Among all the catalysts, FTNG-0.2 with 0.2 g Fe 3 O 4 , exhibited the best HA removal abilities, about 80% for sono-adsorption and 93% for sono-photocatalysis. The removal efficiency in sono-photocatalytic system was about 42% higher than only adsorption and 26% higher than only photocatalysis. Finally, we proposed the possible reaction mechanisms. First, ultrasound pretreatment had a positive effect on HA removal, and a Fenton-like system was then established with H 2 O 2 produced by cavitation effect. Second, the doping of Fe 3 O 4 , N and GO improved the quantum efficiency. The improvement of visible light catalytic performance is mainly attributed to the doping of N. This work is significant for the field of ultrasonic and catalytic degradation, especially for the removal of humic acid in drinking water.

A high-sensitivity electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was conducted to detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Nanocomposites of graphene oxide/carboxylated multiwall carbon nanotubes/gold/cerium oxide nanoparticles (GO/MWCNTs-COOH/Au@CeO2) were used as antibody carriers and sensing platforms to modify on glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). CeO2 nanoparticles were first exploited as an ECL luminescent material and the possible ECL mechanism was proposed in this work. GO/MWCNTs-COOH was used as a loading matrix for CeO2 nanoparticles because of the superior conductivity and large specific surface area. Au nanoparticles were further deposited on this matrix to attach anti-CEA and enhance the sensitivity of immunosensor. The proposed sensing platform showed excellent cathodic ECL performance and sensitive response to CEA. The effects of experimental conditions on the ECL performance were investigated. The proposed immunosensor showed the broad linear range (0.05–100 ng/mL) and the low detection limit (LOD, 0.02 ng/mL, signal-to-noise ratio = 3) according to the selected experimental conditions. The excellent analysis performance for determination of CEA in the human serum samples simplied this immunosensor displayed high sensitivity and excellent repeatability. More importantly, this conducted immunosensor broadens the use scope of CeO2 nanoparticles.

In this work, an excellent ternary visible-light all solid Z-scheme photocatalytic heterojunction of g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr has been prepared by the attachment of graphene oxide (GO) to the surface of g-C 3 N 4 , followed by in-situ growth of AgBr nanoparticles on GO sheets. The g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr heterojunction exhibits excellent photocatalytic efficiency for RhB degradation, which is about 17.5, 7.9, 3.5, 4.0 and 2.2 times as high as that of P25, g-C 3 N 4 , AgBr, g-C 3 N 4 /GO and g-C 3 N 4 /AgBr heterojunction, indicating the introduction of GO into the system largely improved the capability of the photocatalysis since GO acted as the charge transmission bridge between g-C 3 N 4 and AgBr. Moreover, the photocatalytic performance of g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr just showed a slight decrease after 4 degradation cycles, demonstrating a high stability of the g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr photocatalyst. The photocatalytic mechanism investigation indicated that O 2 − and h + are the major active species in the photocatalytic process. It is expected that the GO-inserted Z-scheme photocatalytic heterojunction could be applied to practical pollutant degradation.

A novel porous graphene oxide (GO)/chitosan (CTS)-hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposite film was successfully prepared for the first time by combining layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly technology with biomimetic mineralization method. The LBL technology was used to control the thickness of film as well as induce the biomimetic mineralization of biocompatible HA. The obtained (GO/CTS-HA) n film provided ideal platform for the proliferation of mouse mesenchymal stem cells (mMSCs). The pore size in the film is about 300 nm, and the porous architecture made the film have high aspirin loading efficiency. Also the accumulated loading dosage could be adjusted by the film thickness, and the sustained release of aspirin could ensure well anti-inflammatory effect. The above advantages may alleviate the pain of patients and give the better environment for bone regeneration. This multifunctional aspirin-loaded (GO/CTS-HA) n film provided an inspiration for the synthesis of novel porous inorganic/biomacromolecule nanocomposite films as the biocoatings applied in bone tissue engineering.

In this study, a unique core-shell structural composite with graphene oxide nanosheets wrapping the hierarchical porous NiCo 2 O 4 microspheres (NiCo 2 O 4 @GO) has been successfully prepared by a facile electrostatic assembly process between positively charged hierarchical porous NiCo 2 O 4 microspheres and negatively charged graphene oxide (GO). When used as an anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the core-shell structured NiCo 2 O 4 @GO can not only suppress the aggregation and large volume change of NiCo 2 O 4 microspheres, but also provide faster kinetics for both electrons and lithium ions during charge-discharge process. Moreover, NiCo 2 O 4 microspheres wrapped with GO can restrict the decomposition of the electrolyte and yielding a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer during cycling. Due to these merits, the core shell structured NiCo 2 O 4 @GO hybrid composite demonstrated a high initial reversible capacity of 1046.6 mAh g −1 at a current density of 50 mA g −1 with capacity retention of 77.6% after 100 cycles, the hybrid composite material can still deliver 387.4 mAh g −1 even at a high current density of 4 A g −1 , significantly higher than 187.6 mAh g −1 for the pure NiCo 2 O 4 microspheres. The outstanding electrochemical performance of the core-shell NiCo 2 O 4 @GO hybrid composite demonstrated that it has great potential as high-performance anode material for lithium-ion batteries.

Novel high-flux and antifouling membranes were prepared by introducing the “three-dimensional structure” nanohybrid particle (GO@SiO 2 ) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) casting solution. GO@SiO 2 nanohybrid particle was produced via in situ hydrolysis and condensation of precursor tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) on the surfaces of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets, and the nanohybrid membranes were first prepared through phase inversion by an immersion precipitation technique. Compared with PVDF/PVP, PVDF/SiO 2 /PVP and PVDF/GO/PVP membranes, PVDF/GO@SiO 2 /PVP membrane had outstanding performance in hydrophilicity, surface roughness, and mechanical force. The rejection rate of bovine serum albumin (BSA) exceeded 78.5% under high water flux (1232 L/(m 2 h)) and the membrane flux recovery rate was highest (BSA = 77.5%, sodium alginate (SA) = 82.1%). To investigate the antifouling properties of the nanohybrid membrane further, the adhesion forces of foulant and membrane were determined using our own foulant probes with an atomic force microscope (AFM). The results showed that the adhesion forces between PVDF/GO@SiO 2 /PVP membrane and foulants (BSA and SA) were far smaller than the adhesive forces of the foulants with the PVDF/PVP membrane. The results showed that the new nanohybrid membrane had the best overall properties and antifouling ability, and it provides a new method for improving the performance of PVDF membranes.

Nanofiltration (NF) is a promising method in lithium extraction from salt lake brine with a high Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratio. However, membrane fouling challenges its applicability and productivity. This study incorporated graphene oxide (GO) into the polyamide (PA) selective layer of NF membranes to enhance anti-fouling properties and improve lithium extraction from brine. Membrane structure analyses revealed that 0.002 wt% and 0.01 wt% GO facilitated the interfacial polymerization reaction. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that the PA selective layers in the GO-0.002 % and GO-0.01 % membranes were denser, smoother, and thinner. In contrast, the addition of 0.05 wt% GO resulted in the Turing structures on the membrane surface. Adsorption kinetics indicated pollutant adhesion in the following order: GO-0.05 % > GO-0 % > GO-0.002 % > GO-0.01 %, which was attributed to calcium-carboxyl complexation, as directly measured by AFM and consistent with carboxyl density. The GO-0.002 % and GO-0.01 % NF membranes demonstrated excellent anti-fouling properties in brines, with lower initial fouling rates and higher flux recovery after cleaning, underscoring the significant role of calcium-carboxyl complexation in membrane fouling. The retention of Mg 2+ increased to 95 %, while that of Li + decreased to below −28 % for GO-0.002 % and GO-0.01 % membranes, indicating promising potential for Mg and Li separation. This study provides valuable insights into developing NF membranes with high Mg/Li selectivity and anti-fouling capabilities for lithium extraction from salt lake brine.

In this work, a new polyvinylidene fluoride nano-ultrafiltration membrane modified by graphene oxide/ titanium dioxide doped with cerium composite materials (GO/Ce-TiO 2 -PVDF) was prepared by phase inversion method. The water contact angle, porosity, pore size distribution , and photocatalytic performance of the membrane were studied. Compared with the PVDF membrane, the water contact angle of the modified membrane decreased to 36.5°, the pure water flux improved to 119.64 L·m -2 ·h -1 , and the retention rate of bovine serum albumin (BSA) was 95.3%. The synergistic effect of GO and Ce-TiO 2 could improve the photocatalytic activity of the composite membrane , and the degradation rate of BSA was 97.4%. The flux recovery rate (FRR) of the modified membrane was 82.38%, which was 22.24% higher than that of the PVDF membrane (67.39%). The FRR of the modified membrane increased to 91.54% under water cleaning and UV irradiation. Five cycle experiments showed that the permeate flux of the polluted membrane was further restored from 78.45 L·m -2 ·h -1 to 76.95 L·m -2 ·h -1 after UV irradiation, and the retention rate of BSA was maintained at about 95%. Therefore, as predicted, the GO/Ce-TiO 2 -PVDF membrane could be widely applied in the water treatment industry due to its high anti-fouling and self-cleaning performances.
