Magnesium Hydride (MgH 2 ) is a promising hydrogen storage material but suffers from a high dehydrogenation temperature and sluggish sorption kinetics, which hinder its practical application. Accordingly, we report the use of a Cu-based metal-organic framework (HKUST-1) derived carbon material as a catalyst for optimizing the MgH 2 hydrogen storage performance. The MgH 2 containing 10 wt% HKUST-1 (denoted as MgH 2 -HKUST-1) exhibits a maximum dehydrogenation temperature of 50 °C, much lower than pure MgH 2 . Additionally, it demonstrates enhanced hydrogenation dynamics: it adsorbs 6.4 wt% H 2 within 240 s when heated to 350 °C, and even at 200 °C, it still captures 5.7 wt% H 2 in 60 min. Moreover, the dehydrogenation activation energy is 85.01 kJ per mole of H 2 , showing a marked reduction compared to pure MgH 2 . Furthermore, the excellent H 2 storage performance perhaps stems from the synergistic interaction of Cu 2+ /Cu + redox reactions, mechanochemical size effects, and in situ carbon scaffolding.

Background Among tumors affecting the central nervous system (CNS), glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive and lethal form. Given the complex mechanisms of the CNS and the blood-brain barrier (BBB), effective therapies for GBM remain limited. To identify potential therapeutic candidates for glioma, we developed a small-molecule library to screen for compounds with potent anti-proliferative effects and BBB permeability. The mechanisms underlying their anti-glioma activity were further elucidated to provide insights into new treatment strategies. Methods A library of small molecules was screened to identify agents that significantly inhibit glioma cells activity. The effects of the lead compound (Dihydrotanshinone I, DHT) on glioma progression were evaluated through a series of experimental approaches, including cell counting kit-8 assays, cell cycle analysis, apoptosis detection, wound healing, transwell migration, reactive oxygen measurement, subcutaneous xenograft mouse models, and intracranial orthotopic tumor models. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, network pharmacology and transcriptomic analyses were employed. The mechanism of DHT in glioma pathogenesis was further validated using bioinformatics analyses and clinical glioma tissue samples. Results Based on pharmacokinetic evaluation, DHT was found to traverse the BBB, indicating its capacity to reach the cerebral parench. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that DHT significantly suppresses glioma growth and progression. Mechanistic analyses using network pharmacology and RNA sequencing revealed that DHT induces glioma cell apoptosis by inhibiting the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway, increasing intracellular reactive oxygen species levels and triggering intrinsic apoptotic cascades. Furthermore, bioinformatic analyses of clinical cohorts coupled with validation in patient-derived glioma specimens confirmed that elevated STAT3 expression was correlated with unfavorable prognosis and was significantly increased in patients with high-grade glioma. Conclusions This study demonstrates that, in addition to its role as a key contributor to glioma malignancy and a prognostic marker, STAT3 is also a target of DHT, highlighting its potential as a promising therapeutic candidate for treating GBM. Metal halide scintillators have attracted continuously increasing interest for low-dose and high-resolution X-ray imaging, yet typical luminescent silver halides suffer from severe hygroscopicity and exciton quenching caused by Ag–Ag cluster aggregation. To address these challenges, we design and report mononuclear five-coordinate silver(I) halide complexes (dppb) 2 AgX·DMSO (X = I, Br, Cl) with 1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppb) ligand. Halogen substitution enables tunable broadband emission, while the chloride analogue achieves efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and a high PLQY of 76%. The chloride analogue possesses more rigid AgClP 4 coordination environment compared with its bromide and iodide counterparts, enabling restricts excited-state relaxation, suppresses non-radiative decay, and preserves favorable singlet-triplet energetics and spin-orbit coupling. Meanwhile, the chloride analogue shows superior scintillation with a high light yield of 26631 photons/MeV, and a detection limit of 304.67 nGy air s −1 . Furthermore, a high spatial resolution of 20.2 lp mm −1 for X-ray imaging is achieved based on the transparent Ag-Cl composite gel scintillator screen. This work not only provides a promising design principle for achieving high scintillation in TADF-type Ag(I) halide complexes by halogen regulation, but also provide a new platform for Ag(I) halide complexes in X-ray imaging.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) employing CsPbX 3 nanocrystals (NCs) face persistent challenges in balancing emission efficiency and spectral stability due to surface halide vacancies, which trigger nonradiative recombination, halide phase segregation, and self-doping effects. In this work, we address these limitations by introducing 3,5-dicarboxyphenylboronic acid (3,5-DA) as a multifunctional bidentate ligand additive. The unique coordination architecture of 3,5-DA, featuring multiple chelating groups, enables strong binding affinity to perovskite NC surfaces. This interaction effectively passivates halide vacancies while suppressing ion migration and defect formation. The optimized CsPb(Br/I) 3 NCs exhibit enhanced stability and suppressed nonradiative losses, enabling high-performance white LEDs (WLEDs). At a driving current of 10 mA, the fabricated WLEDs demonstrate a luminous efficiency of 10.32 lm·W −1 , a CIE coordinate of (0.3379, 0.3391), a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5260 K, and an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 6.48 %. This work provides a ligand engineering strategy to concurrently resolve efficiency-stability trade-offs in PeLEDs.

Modulating the release of Cu(I) ions from copper-based antifoulants is of notable engineering and scientific importance. However, this approach remains challenging because of a lack of valence-stabilizing protection strategies for Cu(I) sites and the poorly characterized releasing behavior of Cu(I) ions. To address these issues, a novel multivalent antifoulant Cu(I, II)-metal–organic framework (Cu(I, II)-BTC; BTC: 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) was synthesized via an in situ reduction of Cu(II)-BTC under mild conditions. The framework structure of Cu(I, II)-BTC was examined in detail using X-ray diffraction, N 2 sorption analysis, and transmission electron microscopy–selected-area electron diffraction. For the first time, the release behavior of Cu(I) from Cu(I, II)-BTC submerged in seawater was characterized by ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry. The chemical state of the copper sites in the Cu(I, II)-BTC complex was determined before and after submersion in fresh seawater to investigate whether the framework structure facilitated the retention of Cu(I) ions. Further, the bactericidal activity of Cu(I, II)-BTC was evaluated by measuring the intracellular reactive oxygen species levels to reveal the biocidal effect of the released Cu(I) ions. Finally, the antifouling performance of the resulting Cu(I, II)-BTC-based antifouling coating was comprehensively evaluated via laboratory bioassays (using fouling bacteria and barnacle larvae as test organisms) and long-term marine field trials. This study offers viable avenues for designing novel antifoulants and developing an in-depth understanding of the copper-mediated antifouling process.

Among tremendous efforts for enhanced photocatalysis, construction of heterojunction has been deemed as an effective means. In comparison with type II heterojunction, type I heterojunction receives less attention due to accumulation and increased recombination of charge carriers in one side of heterojunction. Herein, we take NaBi(MoO 4 ) 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 as an example of type I heterojunction and explore means to improve the photocatalytic performance of NaBi(MoO 4 ) 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 heterojunction. We employ TiO 2 electrospun nanofibers as substrates and separately grow NaBi(MoO 4 ) 2 and Bi 2 MoO 6 nanostructures on the skeleton of TiO 2 . The characterization results show that TiO 2 changes type I heterojunction into multiheterojunction integrating two type II heterojunctions. Photocatalytic tests demonstrate that as-constructed multi-heterojunction is of higher activity than that of single type I or II heterojunction, respectively, where photogenerated electrons are accumulated on the surface of TiO 2 and photogenerated holes are accumulated on NaBi(MoO 4 ) 2 and Bi 2 MoO 6 , respectively. This study highlights the potential application of TiO 2 electrospun nanofibers in the construction of multiheterojunction for enhanced visible light photocatalysis.

PbTe-based thermoelectric materials are promising for mid-temperature waste heat recovery, yet n-type PbTe underperforms its p-type counterpart. Herein, high-performance n-type PbTe is achieved through I/Ge co-doping and in-situ composite engineering with Sb 2 Te 3 prepared by melting combined spark plasma sintering. Sb 2 Te 3 alloying introduce in-situ formed Sb/Sb 2 Te 3 precipitates. Furthermore, iodine doping optimizes the carrier concentration to ∼3.4 × 10 19 cm –3 , boosting the room-temperature electrical conductivity to ∼1404 S cm −1 and yielding a high power factor of ∼17.4 μW cm −1 K −2 for the PbTe-Sb 2 Te 3 sample. Meanwhile, lattice thermal conductivity is synergistically suppressed to ∼0.37 W m –1 K –1 at 673 K through Ge-induced point defects/off-center anharmonicity and Sb/Sb 2 Te 3 precipitates. This synergistic strategy results in a peak ZT of ∼1.30 at 823 K and a high average ZT of ∼0.91 at 323–823 K. This work demonstrates that synergistic I/Ge co-doping and composite precipitation effectively enhance thermoelectric performance in n-type PbTe.

Background In our previous study, N end of the Circumsporozoite protein (CSP I-plus) modified recombinant human Endostatin (rEndostatin, endostar) (rES-CSP) was constructed, which had antiangiogenic capability and bound to hepatocellular carcinoma in vivo and in vitro. In this study, the inhibition of rES-CSP on hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis was verified in vivo and in vitro, and its possible mechanism was explored. Methods Firstly, the impact of rES-CSP on the migration, adhesion of hepatoma cell HCCLM3 was identified by wound healing, transwell, and on metastasis of orthotopic xenograft model was identified in nude mouse. Then the expression of metastasis-associated molecules (MMP2, E-cadherin, integrinβ1) and angiogenesis-related factors (VEGFA) in vitro and in vivo were detected by real-time PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry. Results Finally, we found that rES-CSP could inhibit the migration and invasion of HCCLM3, and decrease tumor metastasis and growth in nude mouse orthotopic xenograft models. The tumor inhibiting rates of rES-CSP and Endostar were 42.46 ± 5.39% and 11.1 ± 1.88%. The lung metastasis rates of the control, Endostar and rES-CSP were 71, 50, and 42.8%, respectively. Compared with Endostar, rES-CSP significantly down-regulated the expression of VEGFA and integrinβ1. Heparin, a competitive inhibitor of CSP I-plus, which can be bind to the highly-sulfated heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) over-expressed in liver and hepatocellular carcinoma, alleviated the down-regulation of VEGFA and integrinβ1. Conclusions These indicate that rES-CSP may play a role in inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis by down-regulating the angiogenic factor VEGF and the metastasis-related molecules or by interfering with HSPGs-mediated tumor metastasis.

Recently, to enhance the low-temperature performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), significant efforts have been devoted to developing novel electrolytes with low viscosities, high conductivities, and facile Li-ion desolvation, while much less attention is paid to exploring optimum electrode materials for low-temperature LIBs. In this contribution, we discover that commercial microsized Cu2S exhibits a remarkably high performance toward lithium storage under ultra-low temperatures. Under room temperature, it delivers a reversible specific capacity of 318.8 mA h g−1 with very flat lithiation–delithiation plateaus around 1.75 V in Li metal cells. At −60 °C and a galvanostatic charge–discharge rate of 0.3C, it could still provide a reversible specific capacity of 168.8 mA h g−1 with stable cycling performance, promising its application in ultra-low-temperature Li-based batteries. Through a combination of microscopic, spectroscopic, and electrochemical characterization bolstered by theoretical calculations, the detailed reaction mechanisms and mechanistic understanding of the excellent low-temperature performances are proposed. This work points out the great opportunities to enhance the low-temperature performance of LIBs by discovering suitable electrode materials.

Two low migration acylphosphine oxide photoinitiators (APO and DAPO) containing unsaturated C C double bonds have been designed and synthesized for free radical polymerization . The properties and performances of APO and DAPO in the free radical polymerization of trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) were evaluated and compared with the commercial photoinitiator 2,4,6-trimethyl(phenyl) diphenyl oxide (TPO). The results show that DAPO exhibited the best double bond conversion (DC) of TMPTA in the photoinitiators tested under the same reaction conditions. The migration ratio of APO and DAPO was 2/3 and 1/3 of that of TPO respectively indicating lower migration than the conventional photoinitiator, and the solubility of DAPO in monomers was close to that of TPO, which provided the possibility for the industrial application of DAPO.

Graphical CO 2 photoreduction : Toward building robust artificial photosynthetic systems, a series of single-active-site rhenium bipyridyl complexes with dipyrromethene-BF 2 units exhibit outstanding catalytic efficiency for visible light-driven-CO 2 reduction. New rhenium bipyridyl complexes with dipyrromethene-BF 2 chromophores (A-ReBDP-CZ, A-ReBDP 2 , ReBDP-CZ, and ReBDP 2 ) were developed for highly efficient photocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) reduction to carbon monoxide (CO). These catalysts consisted of two moderate electron-deficient groups (dipyrromethene-BF 2 , BDP) as the visible-light-harvesting antenna as well as both electron donor ( N -phenylcarbazole, CZ) and acceptor (BDP) on Re bipyridyl framework. Among ReBDP-CZ and ReBDP 2 complexes, the ReBDP 2 incorporating two electron-deficient BDP chromophores had a longer-lived photoexcited state (182.4 μs) and a twofold enhanced molar absorption coefficient ( ϵ =157000 m −1 cm −1 ) compared with ReBDP-CZ. Thus, ReBDP 2 achieved the superior photocatalytic reactivity and stability with a CO turnover number (TON CO ) value as high as 1323 and quantum yield ( Φ CO ) up to 55 %, which was the most excellent photocatalysis efficiency among the single-active-site Re catalysts without additional photosensitizer. Furthermore, the acetylene-bridged linker was detrimental to the photoactivity and durability of the catalyst. In brief, two BDP-based Re bipyridyl systems with outstanding catalytic performance and significant visible-light-harvesting capabilities in the solar spectrum offer a promising strategy for solar-to-fuel conversion schemes.

Transition metal ion-activated sulfite autoxidation processes for the production of sulfate radicals (SO4˙−) have been widely investigated to achieve efficient abatement of recalcitrant organic pollutants. However, these homogeneous processes suffered from narrow effective pH range and metal release, thus restricting their practical application. In order to address this problem, we report a simple and efficient approach to iohexol abatement by a combined Cu2S and sulfite process (simplified as Cu2S/sulfite process) based on the superior activation performance of copper and the excellent electron donating capacity of the low-valent sulfur species. Compared with typical copper oxides, Cu2S can significantly accelerate the sulfite autoxidation to generate radicals, leading to 100% iohexol abatement in the Cu2S/sulfite process. The influence of solution pH and dissolved oxygen on iohexol abatement is also investigated. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of reactive radicals is performed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and radical quenching experiments. Generation of SO4˙− from sulfite activation with Cu2S mainly contributes to the iohexol abatement. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) suggests that copper is the main activation site and the reductive sulfur species can achieve the continuous regeneration of copper. Application potential of the Cu2S/sulfite process is also assessed. This study provides a new method for the treatment of water and wastewater containing organic micropollutants.
