The existence of intrinsic defects in organic coating easily causes the degradation of protective ability during long-term corrosion process. A novel two-dimensional MXene (Ti 3 C 2 ) nanofiller can effectively reduce the defect density and contribute to the enhancement of anticorrosion performance, while its high conductivity may accelerate the galvanic corrosion between the organic coating and underlying substrate. In this work, a kind of three-dimensional (3D) Ti 3 C 2 MXene/polypyrrole composites (TPC) hybrid epoxy (EP) coating has been successfully fabricated on Mg alloy , which exhibits the excellent corrosion resistance and antistatic performance. The enhanced conductivity and synergistic barrier/passivation effect enable the Ti 3 C 2 MXene/polypyrrole composites with low surface resistance and excellent anticorrosion ability. Based on the electrochemical tests, the TPC/EP coating possesses remarkable impedance value with 7.73 × 10 10 Ω cm 2 after immersion for 14 days, representing the ability to extend service life due to the excellent physical barrier of Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets and the migration of electrochemical interface related to electronic transmission derived from polypyrrole (PPy) nano-particles. Moreover, the surface resistivity of the obtained coating is reduced to 2.76 × 10 8 Ω, which can be ascribed to the transmission effect of electrolyte ions through interlayer of Ti 3 C 2 /PPy network structure, and thus improving its antistatic performance. This work not only highlights the application of 2D MXene material as effective anticorrosion filler, but pave a new avenue for the development of organic/inorganic hybrid coating of Mg alloy or other metallic materials.

Mg–Fe layered hydroxide (LDH) was synthesized by the double titration method and added to trimesoyl chloride (TMC) to prepare an Mg–Fe LDH-modified polyamide nanofiltration (NF) membrane by interfacial polymerization (IP). Compared to the pure polyamide NF membrane, the Mg–Fe LDH-modified membrane presented a wrinkled structure and a comparatively smooth surface. Additionally, the permeation flux and rejection rate of the modified NF membrane for 1000 mg L−1 Na2SO4 solution were 61.7 L m−2 h−1 and 95.9%, respectively. When the Mg–Fe LDH modified NF membrane was used to separate dye/NaCl mixed solutions, the rejection of NaCl was less than 17% and the rejection rate of Coomassie Brilliant Blue (CBB) molecules was close to 100%. At the same time, the concentration of CBB increased from 500 mg L−1 to 1151 mg L−1 which means that the LDH modified NF membrane could separate CBB/NaCl effectively and could concentrate CBB at the same time.

In this study, the EP (epoxy)/L(P) (layered double hydroxides powder)-DTMS (dodecyl-trimethoxy-silane) superhydrophobic composite coating was prepared on AZ31B Magnesium (Mg) alloy surface by spin-coating and self-assembly methods. Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDH) powder with ion exchange ability, prepared by hydrothermal coprecipitation, was mixed with EP to construct rough surface and provide good adhesion between the coating and Mg alloy substrate. The introduction of DTMS could reduce the surface energy of coating and improve the compactness of rough surface. Due to the shielding effect of superhydrophobic surface and the ion exchange ability of LDH, it was difficult for corrosive ions (Cl - ) to reach the substrate surface in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. And the corrosion current density was decreased by 4 orders of magnitude. Because of the lubrication of DTMS and the layered structure of L(P), the composite coating had a good wear-reducing effect under the reciprocating point contact mode against with an AISI5200 steel ball. It provided a feasible idea for the construction of multifunctional superhydrophobic coatings on metal surface with self-cleaning, corrosion resistance and wear resistance, which will expand the industrial application fields of superhydrophobic coatings.

PrBaFe 2 O 5+ δ (PBF) is one of the promising cathode materials for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) technology. However, as the operating temperature decreases, the electrochemical performance of this material deteriorates rapidly. To counter this, various doping strategies have been tested and reported in order to improve the electrochemical properties of this material at intermediate-temperatures. In this study, Mg-doping to partially substitute Fe of PBF was investigated. PrBaFe 2– x Mg x O 5+ δ (PBFMg x , x =0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.3) materials were successfully synthesized, and their electrochemical performance as IT-SOFC cathode was evaluated. It is shown that Mg-doping enhances the conductivity of PBF between 650–800 °C, impacts little on the area-specific resistance of oxygen reduction reaction at and above 700 °C, and, most significantly, improves the power density of the Ni-SDC/SDC/PBFMg 0.15 single cell by 52% compared to the un-doped PBF. This enhanced electrochemical performance is attributed to the improvement in PBF conductivity by Mg-doping.

Environmentally friendly metal halides with reversible transformation of structure and luminescence properties have become a focal point of interest in the areas of anti-counterfeiting and sensors. Herein, Zn 2 + -doped DMAMnBr 3 and Mg 2+ -doped DMA 2 MnBr 4 were successfully synthesized using the evaporation-crystallization method. After doping Zn 2+ in DMAMnBr 3 , the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is enhanced from 18 % to 40 %. For DMAMnBr 3 , the introduction of Zn 2+ ions also accelerates the color-changing rate upon water absorption due to the tendency of Zn 2+ to form tetrahedral structures. Besides, the DMAMn 0.8 Zn 0.2 Br 3 exhibits excellent sensitivity. Hence, a temperature detection software is developed, which is capable of monitoring temperatures in the range of 323–403 K. For DMA 2 MnBr 4 , the incorporation of Mg 2+ ions not only leads to the enhancement of PLQY but also reduction of melting temperature. The theoretical calculation indicates that the decrease in the melting point is caused by the reduction in lattice energy. Utilizing this characteristic, we produced rewritable paper with excellent reusability. Finally, anti-counterfeiting labels were created using both DMAMn 0.8 Zn 0.2 Br 3 and DMA 2 Mn 0.95 Mg 0.05 Br 4 . The concealed information can be deciphered through straightforward heating. These results hold promise for extending the potential applications of manganese-based perovskite materials.

Although rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) represent a promising post‑lithium energy storage technology, the formation of a non-conductive Mg 2+ passivation layer on Mg anodes remains a significant challenge. Here, we develop a novel all-inorganic electrolyte with low overpotential for Mg plating/stripping by introducing electrochemical active CuCl into a MgCl 2 /THF solution (MgCl 2 -CuCl/THF). During cycling, a multi-functional interface layer composed of Cu and Cu x Mg y Cl z is formed in situ on the Mg anode surface, which not only promotes MgCl 2 salt dissociation but also offer rapid-electron transport pathways. Moreover, the Cu + with reversible redox nature in Cu x Mg y Cl z can accommodate and release Mg 2+ ions, thereby facilitating rapid and homogenous Mg 2+ deposition. Consequently, the optimized MgCl 2 -CuCl/THF electrolyte enables Mg//Mg symmetric cells to cycle stably for over 1300 h at 0.5 mA cm −2 , with an overpotential as low as 0.15 V (vs. Mg 2+ /Mg). Furthermore, excellent Mg electro-plating/stripping properties have also been demonstrated in Mg//Mo, Mg//Cu, and Mg//SS asymmetric cells, achieving nearly 100 % Coulombic efficiency and stable cycling for over 138, 138, and 55 days, respectively. This work provides a promising strategy for the design of high-performance electrolyte systems for advanced RMBs.

Rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) have garnered significant attention in recent years. However, the commercialization of RMBs has been severely hampered by the low-strength and high-resistance connections between the magnesium (Mg) anodes and aluminum (Al) tabs. To address this challenge, we perform orthogonal experiments on 0.2 mm-thick Al–Mg ultrasonic welded joints to establish an optimized parameter range. Analysis of variance revealed that ultrasonic amplitude exerted the most dominant influence on joint strength (52.03%), followed by welding time (25.59%) and welding pressure (22.37%), with a significant interaction effect observed between welding time and amplitude. Notably, at a welding pressure of 0.40 MPa, the Al–Mg joint achieved peak performance, including the maximum lap-shear load (59.20 N) and minimal electrical resistance (0.483 mΩ). RMB pouch cells assembled with good-welded tabs demonstrated superior electrochemical performance compared to under and overwelded counterparts, exhibiting reduced internal resistance (3.55 Ω in the first cycle), enhanced capacity retention (77.45% after 60 cycles), and raised Coulombic efficiency (99.88% after 440 cycles).

The co-precipitation method allows rapid and large-scale preparation of highly active Mg–Al spinel precursors, but the crystalline growth of precursors affects the activity of the calcined powders. In the study, the stirring is introduced to inhibit the crystal growth during aging. The effects of stirring during aging on the grain growth of precursors, the phase composition and morphology of calcined powders and the optical transmittance of ceramics were comparatively investigated. It is found that the rod-like morphology obtained by static aging would be retained after calcination, resulting in the formation of a small number of pores in the HIPed ceramics. The stirring effect inhibits the growth of the precursor and molds it into granular-like particles, resulting in spherical-like particles of approximately 50 nm after calcination. The transmittance of stirred aging in the near-infrared wavelength band is also above 80 % (1000–1500 nm) and the maximum transmittance of 84 % can be achieved at 1300 nm wavelength.

Livestock and poultry farming effluents (LPFE) have become a significant source of pollution in the agricultural water environment, with nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) being the major pollutants. The use of inexpensive Mg2 + -modified materials as crystallization carriers can enhance the struvite crystallization and precipitation reaction, enabling efficient recovery of N and P nutrients from LPFE. In this study, Mg2 + -modified corncob biochar (CCBC-Mg) and Mg2 + -modified natural zeolite (NZ-Mg) were assessed for their simultaneous recovery of N and P from LPFE. BET, SEM-EDS, FTIR, XRD and adsorption isotherm and adsorption kinetics modelling were used to study the N and P adsorption properties and mechanisms. The results showed that Mg2 + modification significantly enhanced the simultaneous ammonia nitrogen (AN) and total phosphorus (TP) recovery of the two materials. After modification, corncob biochar (CCBC-Mg) showed the best P recovery performance, while natural zeolite (NZ-Mg) showed the best AN recovery, with adsorption quantities reaching 116.99 mg/g and 47.50 mg/g, respectively. The findings demonstrated that the adsorption processes for both AN and phosphate across all materials adhered to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm, collectively indicating that monolayer adsorption governed by chemical interactions was the predominant mechanism. CCBC and NZ mainly adsorbed AN and TP by electrostatic attraction and ion exchange, whereas CCBC-Mg and NZ-Mg, mainly relied on struvite precipitation on the material surface. The Mg2 + - modification increased the solution pH and formed Mg-P precipitates on the material surface, providing a favourable alkaline environment and nucleation conditions for the struvite reaction, thereby promoting the simultaneous recovery of AN and TP by the materials. This study could provide a theoretical basis for the design of struvite carrier for the simultaneous recovery of AN and TP from LPFE by the struvite precipitation method, and promote the application of this process in livestock and poultry farming effluent treatments.

In this study, aluminum titanate/anorthite (Al 2 TiO 5 -CaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 ) ceramics were fabricated from ferrotitanium slag through phase reconstruction. Stabilization of the ceramic was achieved by migration of Mg element into Al 2 TiO 5 phase. The results indicated that optimal performance was achieved with the addition of 4 wt% MgO and 60 wt% ferrotitanium slag at 1370°C. The ceramic exhibited bulk density of 3.11 ± 0.01 g/cm 3 , thermal storage density of 1.51 kJ/cm 3 , and thermal expansion coefficient of 3.40 × 10 −6 /°C (1000°C), respectively. Additionally, the solid solution of Mg 2+ in the Al 2 TiO 5 lattice reduced the formation of microcracks and enhanced the mass transfer process. Consequently, the sintering temperature decreased from 1415°C to 1370°C while the bending strength increased from 61.25 ± 1.05 MPa to 75.92 ± 7.72 MPa. Furthermore, finite element simulation demonstrated that higher thermal expansion led to concentrated thermal stress, potentially increasing the possibility of ceramic cracking. This research provides a new strategy for preparing low thermal expansion ceramics from titanium-containing solid waste.

Li metal is an ideal anode material for rechargeable high energy density batteries, but its sensitivity to humid air and uncontrolled dendrite growth limit its practical applications. A novel hybrid interphase is fabricated to address these issues. This interphase consists of dense fullerene (C 60 ) and magnesium metal bilayers, which are deposited successively on lithium foil by vacuum evaporation deposition and contribute to moisture resistance and lithium dendrite suppression. Thanks to this dual-functional feature, the assembled cells with the modified anodes and commercial LiFePO 4 cathodes exhibit long cycle life (>200 cycles) with high capacity retention (>98.5%). Moreover, even the modified anodes that are exposed to humid air (30% relative humidity) for over 12 h; the cells still deliver excellent performance, comparable to those without exposure. Such a unique hybrid interphase provides a new promising method for fabricating air-stable and dendrite-free lithium metal batteries.

Diabetic oral ulcers pose a significant challenge in healing due to persistent inflammation. Despite local therapeutic interventions remaining the primary mode of treatment, the dynamic nature of the oral cavity, characterized by continuous muscular activity and salivary secretion, poses barriers to sustained drug retention and thereby limits therapeutic efficacy. To address this issue, an approach has been devised that aims to facilitate transdermal delivery of bioactive components to promote the healing of diabetic oral ulcers. A multifunctional soluble microneedle (MN) patch is prepared using γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA), which is loaded with quercetin (Qu)-modified Mg−Zn layered hydroxide salt (LHS) nanosheets (LHSQ) with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and pro-angiogenic bioactivities to combat the diabetic oral ulcers. These findings demonstrate that the LHSQ-loaded MN (LHSQ-MN) patches are capable of effectively penetrating the oral mucosa. In a rat model of diabetic oral ulcers, the application of LHSQ-MN patches is found to facilitate the establishment of regeneration sites, regulate the inflammatory microenvironment of damaged tissues, exhibit potent antibacterial effects, expedite the reconstitution of the mucosal epithelium, and accelerate ulcer healing through the promotion of angiogenesis. These outcomes highlight the potential of LHSQ-MN patches as a promising therapeutic strategy for the management of oral ulcers in diabetic patients.
