In the marine environment, besides external damage and internal defects, ultraviolet (UV) radiation is also a pivotal factor affecting the stable properties of coatings. Improving the anti-UV aging and active protection properties is beneficial to prolong the service life of coatings. Herein, the PDA-GO-CeO 2 composite material is obtained through a facile stepwise growth of polydopamine (PDA) and CeO 2 on GO nanosheets and further preparing a multifunctional anti-corrosion PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating. As expected, composite coating displays strong adhesion force (6.9 MPa) and tensile strength (21.1 MPa), profiting from the enhanced crosslinking density and interface structure caused by PDA-GO-CeO 2 and resin matrix interaction. Since low defect functionalized PDA-GO-CeO 2 constructs the reinforced physical barrier, the anti-corrosion ability of PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating (10 9.7 Ω·cm 2 ) is more dependable than those of EP (10 6.7 Ω·cm 2 ), GO-EP coating (10 8.8 Ω·cm 2 ) and PDA-GO-EP (10 9.1 Ω·cm 2 ) coatings after immersing in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution for 100 d. Thanks to the synergistic effect of PDA/CeO 2 , the active protection performance of PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating is endowed, which is further proved through the in situ scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET). Following the UV aging treatment, PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating shows minor gloss loss (20.4 %) and better adhesion force (4.3 MPa). Furthermore, the resistance value of PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating is 7.03 × 10 6 Ω cm 2 after 30 d immersion in saline solution, which is 242 times greater than that of EP coating (2.90 × 10 4 Ω cm 2 ). This dependable performance of PDA-GO-CeO 2 -EP coating comes from the reflection, refraction, and absorption of UV rays by nanoscale CeO 2 particles. Consequently, this work offers a simple and promising strategy for fabricating multifunctional long-term protection coatings, thus hopefully extending the service life of marine engineering equipment.

Developing polymer membranes with high permeability, fouling resistance, and rejection capability is a challenging task that requires the use of novel materials to enhance these properties. In this study, composite ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated by incorporating two types of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), UIO66 and UIO66@PDA, into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) using the nonsolvent thermally induced phase separation (NTIPS) method. The results demonstrated that the NTIPS method combined the characteristics of nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) and thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) to fabricate asymmetric membranes with a dense ultra-thin top layer and a bicontinuous network structure. Moreover, the introduction of 1.0 wt% UIO66@PDA into PVDF membranes yielded notable improvements in mechanical strength, thermal stability, and porosity. Concurrently, this led to a water flux rise from 182.5 to 464.7 L·m −2 ·h −1 , and enhanced BSA and HA rejection to 96% and 83%, respectively. Additionally, there was a significant improvement in the membrane's antifouling capacity, achieving a water flux recovery ratio of 93%. This was facilitated by the increased hydrophilicity of UIO66@PDA, which attracted more water molecules and reduced membrane fouling. This work offers a solution to overcome the permeability-selectivity trade-off in membrane separation by hydrophilic modification of hydrophobic membranes, while also addressing fouling issues.

ZIF-8 and polydopamine (PDA) double -modified melamine foam (MF), namely ZIF-8@PDA MF was fabricated using a new in-situ growth method for the co-removal of multiple organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) from environmental water. The resulting ZIF-8@PDA MF exhibited a porous, three-dimensional (3D) cross-linked network in which ZIF-8 evenly distributed on MF via the PDA’s adhesive properties, leading to a 17-fold increase in surface area (from 1.357 to 22.964 m 2 /g) to facilitate mass transfer and target binding. Through experimental confirmation, the mechanisms of hydrogen bonding, π-π, electrostatic and hydrophobic adsorption enable the effective removal of 11 types of OPFRs including aryl-, alkyl- and Cl-OPFRs. Compared to the adsorbents reported previously, ZIF-8@PDA MF achieved higher removal efficiencies (53.8%–99.7%), particularly a 30% improvement for highly polar TEP and TCEP. The adsorption behavior of OPFRs by ZIF-8@PDA MF followed a spontaneous, endothermic process, conforming to the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir model. The adsorption equilibrium could be reached within one hour, 2-48 times faster than most reported studies (2-48 h). In addition, ZIF-8@PDA MF was demonstrated to efficiently remove multiple OPFRs from raw environmental water and the reusability reached up to four cycles without requiring secondary separation, highlighting its practical applicability.

To realize the synergistic lubrication of micro/nano-cellulose and MXene in base oil. Herein, a micro/nano-cellulose confined MXene/polytetrafluoro-wax (NC-MXene/PFW @PDA) composite was prepared by one-step hydrothermal and in-situ loading methods. It was used as a lubricant additive of PAO based oil and achieved macroscopic super lubrication on the surface of engineering steel. The tribological properties of the NC-MXene/PFW@PDA lubricant on the surface of engineering steel were tested at various contents, different loads and sliding speeds. The results show that the friction coefficient and wear rate on the steel surface are reduced by 666.7% and 89.4% respectively compared with pure PAO lubricant. Finally, the synergistic lubrication mechanism was proposed by characterizing the wear surface and performing lubrication theoretical calculations.

We reported a novel assembled G-wire-induced pyrene excimer switching probe for microRNA (miRNA) amplified detection on the basis of exonuclease III (Exo III)-assisted target recycling and Fe 3 O 4 @PDA nanoparticles. The multifunctional hairpin (HP) probe recognized and effectively bound to target miRNA, which formed a 3′-blunt terminal for Exo-III digestion and miRNA regeneration to initiate another Exo III-mediated cycling cleavage. After digestion, numerous HP-caged c-myc sequences were released, which were positively related to target miRNA and folded to the parallel G-quadruplex with K + . Additionally, Fe 3 O 4 polydopamine nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 @PDA NPs)-based magnet separation was conducted to reduce background fluorescence signal, and parallel G-quadruplexes self-asembled into filamentous G-wires with Mg 2+ . G-wires generated from 5′-terminal pyrene-labeled c-myc sequences made close distance between two labeled pyrene molecules, and induced the “turn-on” fluorescence signal of pyrene excimer switching. Moreover, gamma-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) was added, which promoted pyrene moiety, causing signal amplification in pyrene excimer fluorescence. Therefore, miRNA was efficiently measured within the homogeneous solution. This method detected miRNA within the dynamic range of 1 pM to 5 nM, with the miR-141 limit of detection (LOD) being 99 fM. It distinguished perfect-matched and mismatched target miRNAs, and showed an accurate detection of miRNA levels in different cell lines and favorable reproducibility when analyzing miRNAs within spiked serum samples. We propose a promising method for G-wire-based biosensing in disease-related biomarkers detection.

Resolving indoor electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radiation pollution caused by electromagnetic waves have become paramount. Plywood is broadly used in interior decoration and give them EMI shielding function will be significant for addressing these issues. Herein, inspired by the mussel underwater bonding strategy and oyster, polydopamine (PDA) graft transition layer was introduced between inorganic BaTiO 3 (BT) core layer and organic polyaniline (PANI) shell layer to construct controllable core@double-shell BT@PDA@PANI nanoparticles. The epoxide polymer and aldehyde-decorated carbon dots (CDs) were used as crosslinkers to form the covalent bonds and dynamic covalent bonds within the adhesive network. The core@double-shell nanoparticles were used as a reinforcing element and crosslinker to construct an organic–inorganic hybrid protein adhesive. This as-prepared protein adhesive exhibits remarkable improvements in wet shear strength (1.16 MPa), dry shear strength (1.97 MPa), and water resistance. Encouragingly, the plywood with in-situ formulated adhesives is an absorption dominated EMI shielding material and reveals an excellent EMI SE T of 38.04 dB EMI in the X-band, significantly outperforming most of the reported synthetic materials. This outstanding performance is attributable to its superior conductivity and unique hierarchical structure of plywood. Therefore, this study offers a facile, environmentally-friendly, and economically feasible strategy for preparing high-performance adhesives to address indoor EMI problems.

Elagolix sodium (ELS) is a marketed product using to release moderate to severe endometriosis-associated pain. It contains functional groups such as carboxyl group , secondary amino group , 2,4-dioxo pyrimidinyl and several benzyl or benzyl-like position hydrogen atom that are susceptive to occur stress degradation. Forced degradation studies of ELS reveal different degradation profiles of the drug substance which are conducted under photo, thermal, acidic, neutral, alkaline and hydrogen peroxide oxidative conditions in the direction of the ICH guidances. With structural elucidation of LC-PDA/UV-MS n and NMR, the degradants were identified, and seven new degradants are reported in this study. It is confirmed that most of the degradation behaviors of ELS are related to the carboxyl group and secondary amino group in the 3-carboxyl propylamine side chain. Under the oxidative condition using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant , the secondary amine was oxidized to form an N -hydrogen amine degradant and two further degradants of amine and carbonyl analogs were generated. Under the alkaline degradation condition, the ELS is proven to be stable and no obvious degradants are produced. On the other hand, under the acidic and neutral degradation condition, the 2,4-dioxo pyrimidinyl core of elagolix sodium is stable but the carboxyl group and secondary amine will occur ring cyclization to form the δ -lactam analogs of elagolix sodium. The plausible mechanisms for the degradation of acidic, thermal, photo-degradative and hydrogen peroxide mediated oxidative of elagolix sodium are proposed. It is worth to note that DP-3–4 are the potential degradants which are only found in the solution degradation and are not the real impurities of elagolix sodium.

As important biomarkers for prostate cancer, total prostate specific antigen (tPSA) and free prostate specific antigen (fPSA) levels in serum play essential roles in early diagnosis. In this study, hybrid molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 )/Pt@Au-nanoprism/polydopamine (PDA)-modified screen-printed electrodes were utilized to detect both fPSA and tPSA in serum simultaneously. MoS 2 generated by the hydrothermal method assembled on the electrode to provide binding sites for further modification. Au nanoprisms were obtained by reducing chloroauric acid with sodium thiosulfate to achieve uniformity. Pt nanoparticles covered on Au nanoprisms by the displacement method, and the generated Pt@Au-nanoprism structure was then deposited onto the electrode to enhance the electrochemical signals. An electropolymerization-synthesized PDA film further modified the electrode to increase antibody binding sites. The results demonstrated that the proposed electrochemical immunosensor for fPSA and tPSA analysis in serum using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) had a wide linear range from 0.0001 ng/mL to 100 ng/mL, with limits of detection (3 SD/slope) at 0.1 pg/mL and 1.1 fg/mL, respectively. For clinical patient samples, the proposed biosensor demonstrated good accuracy according to the clinical electrochemiluminescence immunoassay and improved the diagnostic specificity of tPSA concentrations in the “gray zone", suggesting promising prospects for clinical applications of our multiplex biosensors.

Copper dual disks applied in the braking and transmission of vehicles and aircraft, were susceptible to the damage of shear force and friction heat, seriously affecting friction stability and service life. In this study, enhanced building blocks including polyethyleneimine (PEI), boron nitride (BN) and polydopamine (PDA) were employed to construct a hierarchical interfacial structure for boosting tribological performances of carbon fiber/resin composites paired with copper dual disk. Furthermore, this flexible/rigid/flexible reinforcement contributed to the formation of friction films and high-efficiency thermal conduction network, significantly reducing wear damage to dual disks. The drop in the wear rate of PEI/BN/PDA-modified composite reached 85.07%. Moreover, the wear rate of copper dual disk decreased from 1.63 × 10 −8 cm 3 J −1 to 0.80 × 10 −8 cm 3 J −1 , showing a 50.92% decline.

A kind of silicone rubber (SR)/paraffin (Pa)@silicon dioxide (SiO2)@polydopamine (PDA) phase-change composite was prepared in this work. The double-shelled Pa@SiO2@PDA phase-change microcapsules were constructed by oxidative self-polymerization of dopamine (DA) in Tris-HCl buffer solution. The effect of the DA content on the properties of Pa@SiO2@PDA microcapsules and SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA composites was researched. Due to the protective effect of SiO2, PDA layer, and SR matrix, the SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA composites have good leak-proofing performance, and the leakage rate of SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA-2 is as low as 0.45%. Phase-change enthalpies of the Pa@SiO2@PDA microcapsules and SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA composites are reduced slightly with increasing DA content. Meanwhile, the composites displayed improved mechanical strength. The tensile strength of SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA-2 can be up to 0.560 MPa, which is 1.85 times higher than the tensile strength of pure SR/Pa@SiO2 because the interface compatibility between Pa@SiO2 microcapsules and SR is improved through hydrogen bonding between the abundant groups on the PDA surface and the matrix. Moreover, the rough surface of the PDA-modified microcapsules also enhances the interface interaction through physical “interlocking”. The new kind of SR/Pa@SiO2@PDA composite can be used for thermal management.

As a clinically effective traditional Chinese medicine injection (TCMI), Shuanghuanglian injection (SHLI) is widely used in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infection and pneumonia. However, the shortage of quality analysis is a limitation that remains to be improved in the clinical application of SHLI. In this study, taking advantage of ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem Q-Exactive Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC/Q-Orbitrap-MS), 31 chemical components (eight organic acids, eleven flavonoids, five iridoid glycosides, four phenylethanoid glycosides, and three lignans) in SHLI were characterized, among which 22 components were unambiguously identified by reference compounds. The brief prediction results of network pharmacology indicated that the 22 targeted components may have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activities. Using multiwavelength switching method, the 22 targeted components were quantified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detector (UPLC-PDA) after the methodological validation. Based on the successfully established method, the total content of 22 components in 20 batches of SHLIs was efficiently determined with a slight variation between 10.25 and 11.28 mg/mL, which accounted for 38.7% in total solid of SHLI. This study performed a reliable chemical identification and provided a rapid and effective method for quality analysis, which contributed to the in-depth investigation and application of SHLI.

Based on widely used photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and photothermal properties of polydopamine (PDA), a multifunctional Gd–PDA-Ce6@Gd-MOF (GPCG) nanosystem with a core–shell structure and strong imaging ability was constructed. Benefitting from the metal–organic framework (MOF) structure, GPCG nanoparticles (NPs) showed enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) ability with high relaxation rates (r1 = 13.72 mM−1 s−1 and r2 = 216.14 mM−1 s−1). The MRI effect of Gd ions combined with the PAI effect of PDA, giving GPCG NPs a dual-modal imaging ability. The core, mainly composed of PDA and photodynamic photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6), achieved photothermal/photodynamic therapy (PTT/PDT) synergistic performance. Besides, to overcome the unexpected release of Ce6, the MOF shell realized pH-sensitive release and a high local concentration. Through in vivo studies, we concluded that GPCG NPs show a good inhibitory effect on tumor growth. In conclusion, we successfully obtained a GPCG theranostic nanoplatform and paved the way for subsequent design of imaging guided therapeutic nanostructures based on metal-doped PDA.
