Cerium Dioxide-NRs/ Tungsten Disulfide-Quantum Dots Functionalized W-Shaped WaveFlex Biosensor for Rapid Detection of Paraoxon Pesticide in Agricultural Products

Zhenpeng Men,Lucan Xiao,Ragini Singh,Bingyuan Zhang,Santosh Kumar

In this work, a sensitive and portable fiber-optic WaveFlex biosensor is developed for the detection of paraoxon pesticide in agricultural products. A combination of simulation and experiment is used to analyze the distribution of the evanescent field in optical fiber. The flexible W-shaped optical fiber biosensor (OFB) based on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect is developed, also known as WaveFlex biosensor. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were immobilized on the surface of the optical fiber probe to successfully excite the LSPR phenomenon. In addition, in order to modify the optical fiber probe, cerium dioxide nanorods (CeO2-NRs) and tungsten disulfide quantum dots (WS2-QDs) were functionalized. It is used to enhance the biocompatibility of the sensor and increase the specific surface area of the fiber probe. The enzymatic determination of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) is usually based on cholinesterase and organophosphorus hydrolase. Paraoxon has an irreversible inhibitory effect on butyrylcholinesterase. The content of paraoxon was detected by the inhibitory effect of paraoxon on butyrylcholinesterase. The reproducibility, reusability, stability, selectivity, and pH tests of the W-shaped WaveFlex sensor and its application in real samples are evaluated using different concentrations of paraoxon solution. The linear range of the sensor is 0– $100~\mu $ g/mL, and the limit of detection (LoD) is $7.999~\mu $ g/mL. The sensitivity is as high as 0.0312 nm/( $\mu $ g/mL), which verifies that the sensor provides an indispensable technology, cost-effective and portable solution for paraoxon-specific detection.

Synergistic Effect of Ni/W/Cu on MgAl2O4 for One-Pot Hydrogenolysis of Cellulose to Ethylene Glycol at a Low H2 Pressure

Jun Yu,Jiezhen Liang,Xiaopeng Chen,Linlin Wang,Xiaojie Wei,Youqi Li,Yanmin Qin

Nickel and tungsten, combined with copper, were incorporated into a magnesium aluminum spinel to form a multifunctional catalyst (Ni–W–Cu/MgAl2O4). Characterization results suggested that the adjacent Cu not only facilitated the reduction of W6+ to W5+ with substantial oxygen vacancies but also promoted the reducibility of the Ni species. Besides, the incorporation of Ni, W, and Cu into the support enhanced the catalytic acidity, as well as the L acid sites. The catalyst exhibited a strong synergistic effect between the three metals and the support, resulting in higher catalytic activity for the one-pot hydrogenolysis of cellulose to ethylene glycol. High cellulose conversion (100%) and ethylene glycol yield (52.8%) were obtained, even under a low H2 pressure of 3 MPa.

Self-assembled ultrasmall mixed Co–W phosphide nanoparticles on pristine graphene with remarkable synergistic effects as highly efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution

Xiaoyan Wang,Jia Bo Le,Yang Fei,Ruiqin Gao,Maoxiang Jing,Weiyong Yuan,Chang Ming Li

In situ mixing of transition metal phosphides (TMPs), especially those with dissimilar metals, in ultrasmall spaces and assembling them on nanoscale supports for remarkably enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity are rather challenging. We have fabricated pristine graphenesupported ultrasmall, highly dispersed, and high-density Co–W–P nanoparticles (NPs) via phosphotungstic acid-mediated self-assembly. This nanohybrid exhibits outstanding activity with all of the onset overpotential, overpotential (10 mA cm−2), Tafel slope, and exchange current density in both 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M KOH superior to those of most reported non-noble-metal-based catalysts and excellent durability showing negligible current change after 24 h chronoamperometric measurement and after 2000 CV cycles. The superior catalytic performance is ascribed to in situ intimately grown Co–W–P NPs with ultrasmall sizes and high dispersion greatly promoting electron transfer, ultrasmall and well-dispersed Co–W–P NPs on graphene providing numerous electrochemically accessible active sites, and synergistic interaction between WP2 and CoP significantly enhancing intrinsic activity. This work not only develops a facile and economical strategy to synthesize pristine graphene supported mixed phosphides of dissimilar transition metals as low-cost and high-performance HER electrocatalysts, but sheds light on synergistic effects between TMPs for high activity and self-assembly mechanisms toward the synthesis of various unique nanohybrids.

The simultaneous improvements of strength and ductility in W–Y2O3 alloy obtained via an alkaline hydrothermal method and subsequent low temperature sintering

Zhi Dong,Zongqing Ma,Ji Dong,Chong Li,Liming Yu,Chenxi Liu,Yongchang Liu

Oxide dispersion strengthened tungsten (ODS-W) alloys are a class of important materials that widely used for high temperature applications due to their unique physical and mechanical properties. However, the insufficient ductility of ODS-W alloys at low or high temperatures limits their widespread application, especially as structural materials. It is always a great challenge to efficiently disperse oxide second phase nanoparticles within W matrix for achieving ODS-W alloy with excellent balance of strength and ductility. Here we report an innovative strategy for the fabrication of high-performance ODS-W alloy with strength of up to 1134 MPa and total elongation over 30% at 700 °C. The innovative route involves the preparation of W–Y 2 O 3 composite powder precursor via alkaline hydrothermal method and subsequent low-temperature sintering in hydrogen atmosphere. The internal flake structure with uniformly dispersed Y component and external coating of W component on this flake structure can be formed in alkaline hydrothermal product and then be passed on to the reduced W–Y 2 O 3 composite nanopowders . As a result, the distribution of second phase oxide particles in the low-temperature sintered alloys using these composite nanopowders as precursor is optimized significantly including an increase in the volume fraction of intragranular oxide particles and a decrease in the size of both intergranular and intragranular oxide particles. Besides, the average W grain size is also refined dramatically (410 nm). More importantly, the intragranular oxide particle / W matrix interface is regulated to be coherent relationship. The combined action of these microstructural factors is responsible for the significantly enhanced strength and ductility of ODS-W alloy. These results indicate that the newly developed alkaline hydrothermal method in our work is a promising way to fabricate high performance ODS tungsten based alloys.

Achievement of high ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability by W/Sn-doped Na3SbS4 conductors designed for all-solid-state sodium-ion batteries

Tao Huan,Jingxuan Yin,Yu Shen,Jingxin Lu,Chengwei Gao,Yongxing Liu,Shixun Dai,Changgui Lin,Xianghua Zhang,Hongli Ma,Xiang Shen,Qing Jiao

All-solid-state sodium-ion batteries are emerging as a highly promising substitute for lithium-ion batteries, primarily owing to their rich natural resources and superior safety performance. Solid electrolytes are integral components of all-solid-state batteries and have attracted much attention due to their remarkable safety and chemical stability. This study examines a novel solid electrolyte Na3(WSn)xSb1−2xS4 by modifying the W/Sn ratio and achieves a high ionic conductivity of 11.3 mS cm−2 at room temperature. Structural analysis demonstrates that the inclusion of tungsten facilitates the formation of cubic phase Na3SbS4 by more sodium vacancies. Furthermore, the co-dopant Sn ensures pure cubic conductors by removing impurities WS2 and increasing the element solubility. This efficiently enhances the movement of sodium ions and promotes ion transportation. The W/Sn-optimized Na3SbS4 (NBS) electrolyte also exhibited stable cycling for about 323 hours, which is about eight times longer than the Na3SbS4 base electrolyte. The efficient enhancement of the critical current density demonstrated the improvement of the structural stability at the interface where sodium dendrites formed easily. The formed Na–Sn alloy provides a protective barrier for the normal transport of ions. In addition, the small release of H2S also proves the stability of the electrolyte structure. These characteristics make it a highly promising electrolyte material for all-solid-state electrolytes.

(W, Ta, Mo, Cr)(Al, Si)2-Al2O3 dual-phase high-entropy alumino-silicides with superior oxidation resistance up to 2100 °C

Fucheng Liu,Yuhui Chen,Lei Zhuang,Hui Wang,Hulei Yu,Yanhui Chu

High-temperature materials with superior long-term oxidation resistance above 2000 °C are urgently sought for next-generation hypersonic vehicles. Here, (W 0.28 Ta 0.28 Mo 0.28 Cr 0.15 )(Al 0.2 Si 0.8 ) 2 -Al 2 O 3 dual-phase high-entropy alumino-silicides (HEAS-Al 2 O 3 ) are developed, which exhibit superior long-term oxidation resistance up to 2100 °C. To be specific, the as-fabricated HEAS-Al 2 O 3 samples are found to consistently follow an oxygen-diffusion parabolic law across 1700–2100 °C, possessing a high activation energy of 234.4 kJ mol −1 . Moreover, an ultralow oxidation depth of 0.4 mm after 120 min of laser oxidation and a linear plasma ablation rate of 0.026 μm s −1 at 2100 °C are achieved. Such remarkable oxidation resistance is mainly attributed to the increase in Al cations due to Al 2 O 3 incorporation, coupled with the inclusion of multiple cationic elements, to significantly enhance the rigidity of the glass network. Thereby, the viscosity and high-temperature stability of the resulting aluminosilicate glass are markedly improved, effectively protecting the underlying unoxidized HEAS-Al 2 O 3 . The as-developed HEAS-Al 2 O 3 shows great promise as a thermal structural candidate for next-generation hypersonic vehicles.

Rational Assembly of Hydrophobic Particles on Tubular SiC Membranes for Water-in-Diesel (W/D) Emulsions: Synchronized Wettability Reversal and Pore Narrowing

Yang Qiqi,Hu Minglv,Zhang Wenkang,Zhou Ke,Liang Zheng,Gu Qilin,Zhong Zhaoxiang,Xing Weihong

Janus ceramic membranes with asymmetric wettability have proven highly effective for preparing water-in-diesel (W/D) emulsions. Therefore, the fabrication of such tubular membranes for continuous emulsification processes is of significant interest. In this study, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) were used as precursors, with ammonia serving as the catalyst, to achieve the controlled synthesis of hydrophobic silica (SiO 2 ) particles. Subsequently, these hydrophobic SiO 2 particles were coated onto the inner walls of tubular silicon carbide (SiC) membranes (mean pore size = 1.2 μm) via a simple dip-coating process. Results indicate that controlling the ammonia concentration allows for the synthesis of SiO 2 particles with sizes that appropriately match the pore dimensions of the tubular SiC membranes. As the SiO 2 solid content was increased from 0.10 to 2.00 wt %, the average pore size of the tubular SiC membranes decreased from 1.2 to 0.52 μm. Concurrently, the apparent water contact angle on the inner walls increased significantly from 15 ° to 142 ° , while the outer surface remained hydrophilic. Among the membranes with various surface wettability, the configuration featuring a hydrophobic inner wall and a hydrophilic outer surface proved most effective for emulsion production, yielding W/D emulsions with smaller average droplet diameter and uniform size distribution. This work introduces an effective method for simultaneously tuning the surface wettability and pore structure of tubular SiC ceramic membranes, thereby establishing a foundation for the continuous membrane emulsification of diesel fuel.

Comparative Effects of Ce, Co, or W Dopants on the Catalytic Performance of FeMnTiOx Catalysts for Low-Temperature NH3-SCR of NO

Binyu Wang,Cong Feng,Huan Liu

To clarify the role of metal dopants in low-temperature NH3-SCR of NO, FeMnTiOxcatalysts were synthesized by coprecipitation and separately modified with Ce, Co, or W. The catalysts were evaluated for NO conversion, separate O2/H2O switching response and dry-feed time-on-stream stability and characterized by XRD, SEM, N2adsorption–desorption, XPS, H2-TPR and NH3-TPD. Ce doping at Ce/Mn = 0.3 suppressed TiO2crystallization, increased the BET surface area from 136 to 231 m2g−1and the pore volume from 0.19 to 0.58 cm3g−1, raised the Mn4+/Mn3+ratio from 0.70 to 1.25, and increased the medium-strong-acid relative peak area from 555.4 to 1293.2 a.u. FeMnCe0.3TiOxmaintained at least 90% NO conversion from 140 to 360 °C, gave 75% conversion at 400 °C, and averaged 97.4% during a 40 h dry-feed test at 350 °C. The results show that the superior Ce-modified catalyst arises from the combined regulation of texture, surface redox balance and acidity.

Synthesis of Interface-Targeting Polyether Ester Demulsifiers and Investigation of the Mechanism of Rapid Demulsification of O/W Emulsions at Room Temperature

Xiaojing Yao,Jiangli Lin,Ruijia Yang,Xiuling Zhu,Xiangyun Wei,Shishan Zhou,Bohang Cang,Wenhao Zhang,Jiaolong He,Zhen Su

Abstract This study addresses the problems of strong temperature dependence, low demulsification efficiency, and long treatment time for oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions in the petroleum industry. Using polyethylene glycol/polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether (PEG/mPEG) as the hydrophilic polyether backbone, a novel amphiphilic polyether ester–amide demulsifier PEOSu-C18 was designed and synthesized by succinic acid esterification and terminal modification with octadecyl amide to introduce hydrophobic octadecyl-amide segments at polymer chain ends. The linear polyether-ester backbone supplies interfacial adsorption capacity, while terminal long-chain octadecyl hydrophobic segments provide effective interfacial displacement and hydrophobic interactions. Demulsifier dosage, temperature, time, and pH were systematically studied for oil-removal performance. PEOSu-C18 achieved an oil-removal efficiency above 98% within 30 min at a low dosage of 100 mg/L. It maintained excellent performance over a wide temperature range (30–60 °C) and possessed favorable salt tolerance, which can cut the energy and time costs of traditional demulsification. PEOSu-C18 was characterized via FTIR and 1H NMR. Its demulsification mechanism was explored by dynamic interfacial tension, Zeta-potential, and optical microscopy. Results reveal that PEOSu-C18 rapidly migrates to the oil–water interface, competes with and displaces negatively charged kaolinite particles through steric hindrance and hydrophobic interaction, breaks the rigid interfacial film, and accelerates oil-droplet coalescence. This work provides an efficient, rapid, and energy-saving demulsifier with promising prospects for complex oilfield-produced-fluid treatment.

Remarkable structure and luminescence regulation of a Gd2LuAl5O12:Ce garnet phosphor with a Ca2+/Si4+ pair for high-quality w-WLED lighting

Qinghong Meng,Guoying Zhao,Qi Zhu,Xudong Sun,Ji-Guang Li

Doping Gd2LuAl5O12:Ce with a Ca2+/Si4+ pair produced a series of Gd1.97−xLuCaxAl5−xSixO12:0.03Ce (x = 0.0–1.2) garnet new phosphors, and remarkable regulation of the crystal structure and Ce3+ luminescence was achieved. Rietveld refinement and spectral analysis revealed that greater incorporation of Ca2+/Si4+ led to a higher lattice rigidity by cell contraction, a narrower bandgap, a longer average bond length/less distortion of the [CeO8] dodecahedron and decreased centroid shift/crystal field splitting of the Ce3+ 5d energy level. A blue-shifted 4f–5d1 transition, a narrower emission band, improved thermal stability of luminescence and a shorter fluorescence lifetime were observed with increasing Ca2+/Si4+ content. Applying the yellowish-green-emitting Gd0.77LuCa1.2Al3.8Si1.2O12:0.03Ce optimal phosphor (x = 1.2), together with a commercial CaAlSiN3:Eu red phosphor, in 450 nm-excited LED lighting produced a low CCT of ∼3625 K and a high CRI/R9 of ∼95.2/94.8, indicating that the phosphor has application potential in high-performance w-WLED.

Cryogenic 3D Printing of w/o Pickering Emulsions Containing Bifunctional Drugs for Producing Hierarchically Porous Bone Tissue Engineering Scaffolds with Antibacterial Capability

Xinliang Ye,Zhi He,Yuming Liu,Xiaoying Liu,Rouye He,Ganhang Deng,Ziqing Peng,Jiayu Liu,Zicai Luo,Xiaoling He,Xiang Wang,Jing Wu,Xiaowei Huang,Jingying Zhang,Chong Wang

How to fabricate bone tissue engineering scaffolds with excellent antibacterial and bone regeneration ability has attracted increasing attention. Herein, we produced a hierarchical porous β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-polycaprolactone composite bone tissue engineering scaffold containing tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) through a micro-extrusion-based cryogenic 3D printing of Pickering emulsion inks, in which the hydrophobic silica (h-SiO2) nanoparticles were used as emulsifiers to stabilize composite Pickering emulsion inks. Hierarchically porous scaffolds with desirable antibacterial properties and bone-forming ability were obtained. Grid scaffolds with a macroscopic pore size of 250.03 ± 75.88 μm and a large number of secondary micropores with a diameter of 24.70 ± 15.56 μm can be fabricated through cryogenic 3D printing, followed by freeze-drying treatment, whereas the grid structure of scaffolds printed or dried at room temperature was discontinuous, and fewer micropores could be observed on the strut surface. Moreover, the impartment of β-TCP in scaffolds changed the shape and density of the micropores but endowed the scaffold with better osteoconductivity. Scaffolds loaded with TCH had excellent antibacterial properties and could effectively promote the adhesion, expansion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells afterward. The scaffolds loaded with TCH could realize the strategy to “kill bacteria first, then induce osteogenesis”. Such hierarchically porous scaffolds with abundant micropores, excellent antibacterial property, and improved bone-forming ability display great prospects in treating bone defects with infection. Keywords:bone tissue engineering;cryogenic 3D printing;Pickering emulsion;osteogenesis;antibacterial

Analysis of thermal chromaticity stability, energy transfer and colour tunablity of Dy3+-Eu3+ doped BBZL glasses for high-power W-LED applications

Shiyu Xu,Junjie Fu,Xuening Liu,Meiyu Yuan,Chaoqun Zhang,Haibo Wang,Guangxi Liu,Sheng Cui

A family of highly thermal chromatic stable Dy 3+ -Eu 3+ doped B 2 O 3 -Bi 2 O 3 -ZnO-Li 2 O (BBZL) glass samples was synthesised using the high-temperature melt quenching technique. The optical and thermal stability properties of the samples were analysed using their fluorescence spectra at various temperatures, fluorescence lifetime decay times and colour coordinates. The Dy 3+ -doped BBZL (BBZL: Dy) glass samples generated cold white light when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, while the Dy 3+ -Eu 3+ -doped BBZL (BBZL: DyEu) glass samples emitted neutral and warm white light, which can be attributed to the introduction of Eu 3+ that substantially enhanced the colour rendering of samples. An overlap of the excitation-emission spectra of Eu 3+ and Dy 3+ indicated an energy transfer between Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ . Under a 350 nm excitation, the fluorescence lifetime of BBZL: DyEu decreased from 0.5348 to 0.3642 ms. Using the Dexter theory, the energy transfer between Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ was demonstrated to be an electric dipole-electric dipole leap. The chromaticity shifts of BBZL: DyEu were 8.60 × 10 −4 and 9.40 × 10 −4  at 448 and 498 K, respectively, reflecting the high thermal stability of the sample chromaticity. The study demonstrated that Dy 3+ -Eu 3+ doped borate glasses can be used as tunable luminescent materials in high-power white light-emitting diodes to mitigate the chromaticity shift in fluorescent materials at high temperatures.
