The abuse of antibiotics leading to bacterial resistance has emerged as a significant impediment to wound healing. Consequently, this study developed antibacterial and anti-inflammatory bi-functional carbon dots (AAB-CDs) as the primary active material for the preparation of hydrogel wound dressings, aiming to promote wound healing. The synthesized AAB-CDs exhibited ultra-small size (2.3 nm), abundant surface functional groups, high Zeta potential (30.9 mV), and excellent biocompatibility. The positively charged AAB-CDs with outstanding antibacterial properties, mitigating the risk of bacterial resistance, while the abundant surface functional groups imparted stable antioxidant performance for sustained wound anti-inflammatory effects. Moreover, in vitro experiments demonstrated that the hydrogel dressings exhibited remarkable antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ), and significantly promoted the proliferation of L929 fibroblasts. In vivo experiments further substantiated the feasibility of the hydrogel dressings in promoting wound healing and histological analysis revealed the biological mechanisms underlying the promotion of wound healing. In conclusion, AAB-CDs with robust antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties hold tremendous potential for promoting wound healing, providing practical insights for the biological application of CDs.

Lead-free (1 − x)BaTiO3–xBi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3 (x = 0.05–0.20) materials were fabricated via solid-state reactions. A pure perovskite pseudocubic structure is obtained for all compositions. Dielectric measurements reveal an intensified diffusion and relaxor-like characteristics from 5 mol% to 20 mol% Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3. Weakly coupled relaxor behavior is concluded from the exceptionally high activation energies of ∼0.20–0.22 eV from the Vogel–Fulcher model for x ≥ 0.10, which possibly results in the extremely low dielectric nonlinearity and extra slim polarization–electric field loops. An optimal discharged energy density of 0.79 J cm−3 with a high energy efficiency of 93.5% is achieved at 131 kV cm−1 for x = 0.15, which proves that the BaTiO3–Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3 material is a promising candidate for high energy storage applications.

In this work, we firstly synthesized metallic Bi-modified Bi4O5I2 nanocomposites with oxygen vacancies via a facile one-pot solvothermal method. The deposited Bi metal and oxygen vacancies endowed the Bi/Bi4O5I2 samples with dramatically enhanced photocatalytic performance for degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) and methyl orange (MO) under visible light irradiation. In particular, the improved photocatalytic activity can be ascribed to the synergistic effect of Bi metal and oxygen vacancies, which resulted in their efficient light harvesting properties and excellent charge separation ability. The photocatalytic mechanism of Bi/Bi4O5I2 for organics degradation was demonstrated. This work could shed light on exploring high photocatalytic performance materials and stimulating the development of non-noble metal/BixOyIz photocatalysts, which would also contribute to advancement in environmental remediation and energy exploitation.

Glucose oxidase (GOD) and cytochrome c (Cyt c ) were co-entrapped in the poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)–graphene nanosheets–gold nanoparticles (PDDA–Gp–AuNPs) hybrid nanocomposites modified glassy carbon electrode to prepare a novel bi-protein bio-interphase. Electron transfer and electrocatalysis of the bi-protein bio-interphase were investigated in detail. The results showed that the PDDA–Gp–AuNPs nanocomposites accelerated the electron transfer between proteins and electrode. The bi-protein exhibited effective direct electron transfer (DET) reaction with an apparent rate constant ( k s ) of 2.36 s −1 . The optimal molar ratio and total amount of Cyt c and GOD in the bio-interphase for DET of GOD was estimated to be about 3:1 and 1.40 nmol, respectively. The bi-protein bio-interphase could be used to detect glucose based on the consumption of O 2 with the oxidation of glucose catalyzed by GOD. The resulted biosensor exhibits wide linear range from 2.0 to 18.0 mM. Thus, this study not only successfully achieved DET of GOD, but also constructed a novel biosensor for glucose detection.

A DNA and graphene (GR) bi-layer modified carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) was fabricated by an electrodeposition method. GR nanosheets were electrodeposited on the surface of CILE at the potential of −1.3 V and then DNA was further deposited at the potential of +0.5 V on GR modified CILE. Electrochemical performances of the fabricated DNA/GR/CILE were carefully investigated. Then electrochemical behaviors of dopamine (DA) on the modified electrode were studied with the calculated electrochemical parameters. Under the optimized conditions, a linear relationship between the oxidation peak current and the concentration of DA was obtained in the range from 0.1 μmol/L to 1.0 mmol/L with a detection limit of 0.027 μmol/L (3 σ ). The modified electrode exhibited excellent reproducibility, repeatability, stability, validation and robustness for the electrochemical detection of DA. The proposed method was further applied to the DA injection solution and human urine samples determination with satisfactory results.

We report here the successful fabrication of an improved Bi film wrapped single walled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (Bi/SWNTs/GCE) as a highly sensitive platform for ultratrace Cr(VI) detection through catalytic adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry (AdCSV). The introduction of negatively charged SWNTs extraordinarily decreased the size of Bi particles to nanoscale due to electrostatic interaction which made Bi(III) cations easily attracted onto the surface of SWNTs in good order, leading to higher quality of Bi film deposition. The obtained Bi/SWNTs composite was well characterized with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the static water contact angle and the voltammetric measurements. The results demonstrate the improvements in the quality of Bi film deposited on the surface of SWNTs such as faster speed of electron transfer, more uniform and smoother morphology, better hydrophilicity and higher stripping signal. Using diethylene triaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) as complexing ligand, the fabricated electrode displays a well-defined and highly sensitive peak for the reduction of Cr(III)–DTPA complex at −1.06 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) with a linear concentration range of 0–25 nM and a fairly low detection limit of 0.036 nM. No interference was found in the presence of coexisting ions, and good recoveries were achieved for the analysis of a river sample. In comparison to previous approaches using Bi film modified GCE, the newly designed electrode exhibits better reproducibility and repeatability toward aqueous detection of trace Cr(VI) and appears to be very promising as the basis of a highly sensitive and selective voltammetric procedure for Cr(VI) detection at trace level in real samples.

Cell migration is one of the key cell functions in physiological and pathological processes, especially in tumor metastasis. However, it is not feasible to monitor the important biochemical molecules produced during cell migrations in situ by conventional cell migration assays. Herein, for the first time a device containing both electrochemical sensing and trans-well cell migration modules was fabricated to sensitively quantify biochemical molecules released from the cell migration process in situ . The fully assembled device with a multi-wall carbon nanotube/graphene/MnO 2 nanocomposite functionalized electrode was able to successfully characterize hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production from melanoma A375 cells, larynx carcinoma HEp-2 cells and liver cancer Hep G2 under serum established chemotaxis. The maximum concentration of H 2 O 2 produced from A375, HEp-2 and Hep G2 in chemotaxis was 130±1.3 nM, 70±0.7 nM and 63±0.7 nM, respectively. While the time required reaching the summit of H 2 O 2 production was 3.0, 4.0 and 1.5 h for A375, HEp-2 and Hep G2, respectively. By staining the polycarbonate micropore membrane disassembled from the device, we found that the average migration rate of the A375, HEp-2 and Hep G2 cells were 98±6%, 38±4% and 32 ±3%, respectively. The novel bi-module cell migration platform enables in situ investigation of cell secretion and cell function simultaneously, highlighting its potential for characterizing cell motility through monitoring H 2 O 2 production on rare samples and for identifying underlying mechanisms of cell migration.

Recently, spectra conversion has been used to minimize energy loss in photovoltaic devices. In this work, we explore the development of a novel Eu3+-doped ZnO bi-functional layer for use in organic solar cells. The bi-functional layer acts as both a spectra conversion and an electron transporting layer. Compared to conventional spectra conversion layers, it has a simpler device structure, is easier to fabricate, and has a wider spectrum-sensitized region. A series of Eu3+-doped ZnO nanocrystals were synthesized using the simple solution route. X-ray powder diffraction patterns (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV-visible absorbance spectra were used to characterize the obtained ZnO nanocrystals. The results reveal that the size and bandgap of ZnO nanocrystals can be controlled through regulation of the doping concentration of Eu3+ ions. The energy transfer of ZnO → Eu3+ is observed by photoluminescence (PL) spectra. At a bandgap excitation of around 300–400 nm, a typical emission band from the Eu3+ is obtained. By employing the Eu3+- doped ZnO nanocrystals as a buffer layer in a P3HT:PC61BM bulk heterojunction device, the obtained performance is similar to the undoped ZnO device, indicating that the electrical properties of ZnO are not affected by Eu3+ doping. Due to the down-conversion energy transfer between ZnO and Eu3+, the external quantum efficiency of the ZnO:Eu3+ device at 300–400 nm is higher than that of the pure ZnO device, which subsequently leads to an increase in short circuit current density (JSC). This work proves that it is possible to improve the solar spectrum response in the ultraviolet region of organic solar cells effectively by incorporating the bi-functional layer.

The Type II heterojunction, characterized by its favorable band alignment, facilitated efficient charge separation in photocatalysts. Concurrently, oxygen vacancies can enhance light absorption and activated reactants, thereby improving photocatalytic efficiency. This study presented the synthesis of Bi-TCPP/Bi 2 S 3 heterojunction photocatalysts, which were rich in oxygen vacancies, using a green, one-pot method. The composite exhibited superior photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic reduction properties, achieving a rate constant of 0.03829 min −1 for Cr(VI) reduction and a remarkable reduction rate of 95.73%. After five cycles, the photocatalytic activity remained above 91.30%, demonstrating excellent stability and efficiency in reducing persistent pollutants. This work introduced a novel strategy for photocatalyst design and made a significant contribution to the fields of environmental remediation and green chemistry.

Although photooxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in aqueous solution is an important chemical process, its selectivity cannot be readily controlled due to the overoxidation of benzaldehyde. In this study, a series of Bi–Mo/CN photocatalysts are synthesized, and their reactivity in photooxidation of benzyl alcohol under visible light is compared. Bi–Mo/CN-2 exhibits high photocatalytic reactivity in the conversion of benzyl alcohol (51%) with a high selectivity toward benzaldehyde of 99.9%. In this process, the formed ≡Bi–OO• and ≡Bi–OOH selectively oxidize benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde via the H-abstraction pathway after O2 is photoreduced on Bi–Mo/CN, accompanied by the formation of H2O2. Meanwhile, the doped Mo utilizes the produced H2O2 or ≡Bi–OOH to produce ≡Mo–O2 peroxo, which not only contributes to the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde but also effectively prevents overoxidation of benzaldehyde. This work provides new insight into designing novel photocatalysts for selective oxidation of organic substrates.

Electrocatalytic reduction reaction of carbon dioxide (CO 2 RR) to formic acid is widely considered an effective strategy for addressing the greenhouse effect and enhancing energy conversion efficiency. However, existing catalytic systems are severely hampered by insufficient activity and significant hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), which substantially compromises the selectivity and stability of CO 2 RR, necessitating the development of highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts. Herein, we present a heteroatomic modification strategy to synthesize B-doped Bi and N-doped Bi electrocatalysts, and systematically investigate the regulation mechanism of incorporated elements on the electronic environment using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy and other characterization techniques. The optimized B-doped Bi catalyst demonstrates exceptional catalytic performance, achieving a remarkable Faradaic efficiency of 95% for formic acid production at a high current density of −190 mA/cm 2 under alkaline conditions, while maintaining excellent stability for 20 h. Through comprehensive experimental characterization and theoretical calculations, we reveal that the B-doping-induced electron-rich structure significantly promotes CO 2 molecule activation and facilitates the formation of the key intermediate *OCHO, thereby achieving high selectivity and stability in CO 2 RR. This work not only elucidates the crucial role of electronic environment in CO 2 electrocatalytic conversion but also provides innovative insights into the rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts.

Graphical Three kinds of heteropoly acid-based ionic liquids with different Hammett acidity were prepared for the catalytic conversion of cellulose to levulinic acid, and the effects of different solvent systems on the catalytic reactions were investigated. The results showed that higher Hammett acidity was beneficial to increase the yield of levulinic acid, and GVL/H 2 O bi-phase solvent system was helpful to extract the product to the organic phase and promote the formation of levulinic acid. Levulinic acid is an important chemical intermediate, which has many applications in organic synthesis, industry, agriculture, and medicine. In this word, three kinds of heteropoly acid based ionic liquids ([IMPS]H 2 PW 12 O 40 、[PyPS] H 2 PW 12 O 40 [TEAPS] H 2 PW 12 O 40) were used to catalyze the one-pot conversion of cellulose to levulinic acid. [IMPS]H 2 PW 12 O 40 has the highest catalytic activity due to its strong Hammett acidity ( H 0 ). In addition, the effect of biphasic solvent systems on the conversion of cellulose to levulinic acid was also studied. The results showed that the GVL/H 2 O system could effectively promote the conversion of cellulose and increase the yield of levulinic acid. The yield of levulinic acid could reach 52.6% and the conversion rate of cellulose was 91.2% at 180 °C for 180 min under the GVL/H 2 O volume ratio of 1:1 with [IMPS]H 2 PW 12 O 40 as a catalyst at 1 Mpa N 2 and cellulose as raw material. And [IMPS]H 2 PW 12 O 40 can be recycled up to five times without significant performance loss. This study provides a promising method for efficiently converting cellulose and other biomass resources to levulinic acid extraction.
