Although various strategies have been reported for double-stranded DNA (DNA) detection, development of a time-saving, specific, and regeneratable fluorescence sensing platform still remains a desired goal. In this study, we proposed a new DNA detection method that relies on an “off-on” switch of a regenerated fluorescence biosensor based on an electron transfer mechanism from glutathione (GSH)-capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) to nile blue (NB). Initially, the high fluorescence of GSH-capped CdTe QDs could be effectively quenched by NB due to the binding of NB to the GSH on the surface of the QDs and the electron transfer from the photoexcited GSH-capped CdTe QDs to NB. Then, the high affinity of DNA to NB enabled the NB to be dissociated from the surface of GSH-capped CdTe QDs to form a more stable complex with DNA and suppress the electron transfer process between GSH-capped CdTe QDs and NB, thereby restoring the fluorescence of NB surface modified GSH-capped CdTe QDs (QDs–NB). In addition, we have testified the regenerability of the proposed DNA senor. The corresponding result shows that this DNA sensor is stable for two reuses. This fluorescence “off-on” signal was sensitive to the concentration of DNA in the range from 0.0092 to 25.0 μg mL−1 with a good correlation coefficient of 0.9989, and the detection limit (3σ/S) was 2.78 ng mL−1. To further investigate for perfect analysis performance, the developed biosensor was applied for the determination of DNA in human fresh serum samples with satisfactory results.

Aiming at the problems of carbon fiber board (CFB), which is not waterproof and has poor UV resistance, a superhydrophobic coating with UV resistance and high-temperature resistance was innovatively prepared on CFB using an aqueous-phase polymer dispersion system by a highly efficient spraying method. The whole preparation system is highly environmentally friendly and safe. The results showed that the superhydrophobic carbon fiber board (SKCFB) could resist UV up to 85 h, could withstand high temperatures up to 300 °C, and had a water contact angle (WCA) of 159°. In addition, the abrasion resistance of SKCFB is 140 and 180 cycles under the action of 800 grit and 1200 grit sandpaper, respectively, for a load of 100 g, and 110 cycles under the action of 600 grit sandpaper. When carrying a load of 500 g, the 600 mesh, 800 mesh, and 1200 mesh sandpaper can be used for 40, 60, and 80 cycles of abrasion resistance, respectively. Compared with other samples of the same type, this SKCFB is simpler to prepare, has a greener and safer preparation route, and has better performance, plus the ability to control the appearance color as desired. This study provides a novel green, simple, and fast strategy for preparing superhydrophobic coatings on CFBs. At the same time, it opens a new path for preparing superhydrophobic coatings and enhances their application in industry.

In this study, a novel approach involving homogenate-circulating ultrasound in combination with aqueous enzymatic extraction (H-CUAEE) was developed for extraction of kernel oil from Pinus pumila . Following comparison of enzyme types and concentrations, an enzyme mixture consisting of cellulase, pectinase and hemicellulase (1:1:1, w/w/w) at a concentration of 2.5% was selected and applied for effective oil extraction and release. Several variables potentially influencing extraction yields, namely, homogenization time, incubation temperature, incubation time, mark-space ratio of ultrasound irradiation, ultrasound irradiation power, liquid-solid ratio, pH and stirring rate, were optimized by Plackett-Burman design. Among the eight variables, incubation temperature, incubation time and liquid-solid ratio were statistically significant and were further optimized by Box-Behnken design to predict optimum extraction conditions and ascertain operability ranges for maximum extraction yield. Under optimum operating conditions, extraction yields of P. pumila kernel oil were 31.89 ± 1.12% with a Δ5-unsaturated polymethylene interrupted fatty acid content of 20.07% and an unsaturated fatty acid content of 93.47%. Our study results indicate that the proposed H-CUAEE process has enormous potential for efficient and environmentally friendly extraction of edible oils.

Ruthenium (Ru)-complex (Ru(bpy)32+) catalyzed reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) photopolymerization is an attractive technique for preparing polymer-functionalized biomaterials because of its gentle reaction conditions. Until now, negatively charged polymers prepared by this polymerization method have been seldom reported, which should be due to the difficulty in removing the positively charged catalyst Ru(bpy)32+ from the negatively-charged polymer owing to the strong electrostatic attraction between them. However, the difficulty in removing Ru(bpy)32+ from the negatively charged polymer should not always be regarded as just a shortcoming, on the contrary, it can be utilized as an advantage for developing a stable and efficient solid-state electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) sensor. Herein, pyrene-functionalized poly(sodium p-styrene sulfonate) (PSS) was successfully synthesized by RAFT photopolymerization catalyzed via the Ru-complex based photoredox catalyst (Ru(bpy)32+) under visible light (λ = 460 nm). It turned out to be a well-controlled RAFT polymerization as evidenced by 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analyses. Based on the stable electrostatic attraction of Ru(bpy)32+ with PSS and a non-covalent π–π stacking interaction between the pyrene moiety and the highly oriented pyrolytic graphite surface, a stable and efficient solid-state ECL sensor was successfully fabricated. The as-proposed sensor was investigated using tripropylamine as a representative analyte and a low detection limit of 0.1 nM (S/N ≥ 3) was reached. It also exhibited excellent reproducibility (relative standard deviations of 0.56% for 112 continuous cycles) and long-term stability (about 90% of its preliminary ECL intensity can be retained after intermittent use over a 90-day period).

A fast and sensitive method for the determination of Imidacloprid (IMI) based on a simply pretreated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) has been developed. The easy activation at 2.0 V for only 30s of GCE leads to obvious catalytic property to IMI. The electrocatalytic properties and the electron-transfer kinetics of the activated GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The reduction mechanism of IMI was put forward and the limit of detection (LoD) was estimated to be about 0.61 μM.

Effective and selective removal of radioactive metal ions from aqueous solutions is of great importance due to their harmful effects on humans and other living species. However, it is a big challenge for researchers to develop effective adsorbents with high selectivity and a wide pH application range even if some progress has been achieved. Herein, we report an anionic potassium organic framework (UPC-K1) with protonated dimethylamine (Me2NH2+) residing inside the rhomboid channels. The unique 3D firm structure of UPC-K1 is constructed by the cross-linking of the 2D arrangement using weak K–O bonds (2.9270 Å) and strong hydrogen bonds (1.6498 Å), which endows it with excellent chemical stability in organic solvents, boiling water, and aqueous solution in the pH range 3–10. Based on the cation exchange, depending on pore size selectivity, UPC-K1 shows excellent adsorption performance towards UO22+ in aqueous solutions at 298 K with the following characteristics: (1) effective removal in the pH range 3–10; (2) high selectivity over other metal cations; (3) a high adsorption capacity of 551.4 mg g−1; (4) a rapid adsorption equilibrium within 3 hours under stirring; and (5) effective adsorption at low concentrations, with a residual concentration of 0.69 ppm even at an initial concentration of 10.3 ppm after stirring for 24 hours. These results indicate the great potential of UPC-K1 in the treatment of uranium-containing nuclear wastewater.

This study demonstrates an electric-field-induced self-assembly strategy for fabricating smart iron complex-gelatin hydrogels. By applying a direct current (DC) electric field during the gelation process, gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) interpenetrating network hydrogels containing organic iron complexes (EDTA-Fe and COS-Fe) were fabricated. The results reveal that an external electric field effectively polarizes the functional groups within the hydrogel, thereby transforming its microscopic network from a disordered state into an ordered, anisotropic structure aligned along the electric field direction. This structural ordering induces the formation of abundant heterogeneous interfaces, which significantly enhances dielectric loss via Maxwell-Wagner interfacial polarization and improves impedance matching. Consequently, the hydrogels exhibit reinforced mechanical properties and excellent microwave absorption performance. Specifically, the COS-Fe-loaded hydrogel (PGC) exhibits superior electromechanical responsiveness (Δ G = 4.13 kPa, ρ = 20%), whereas the EDTA-Fe-loaded hydrogel (PGE) demonstrates stronger tunable microwave absorption, achieving an optimal minimum reflection loss ( RL ) of −33.0 dB at 2.86 GHz under an electric field of 1.6 kV/mm.

As a major carbon resource, carbon dioxide recycling can effectively address issues of the greenhouse effect and carbon resource shortages. Carbon dioxide based polypropylene carbonate (PPC) is a polymer material produced from carbon dioxide and propylene oxide, with advantages in environmental protection and sustainability. However, its relatively low thermal stability severely limits its application prospects. In this study, a novel cellulose acetate grafted carbon dioxide based polypropylene carbonate (CA-DMC-CO 2 ) ultrafiltration membrane was prepared by epoxidation and high-pressure catalysis of cellulose acetate side chains. The molecular weight of CA-DMC-CO 2 was 428,169 Da, and its thermal decomposition temperature reached 365 °C. The introduction of polycarbonate side chains endowed the CA-DMC-CO 2 ultrafiltration membrane with good hydrophilicity and excellent permeability, reaching 115.9 L/m 2 h, which performed better than the CA ultrafiltration membrane. In addition, good hydrophilicity of CA-DMC-CO 2 provided effective anti-fouling performance. This study highlights the potential for developing environmentally friendly and sustainable ultrafiltration membranes for practical applications.

Efficient and precise delivery of therapeutics toward target loci of organs is crucial for effective disease therapy. However, conventional devices face remarkable challenges to achieve clinically desirable conformality, spatial controllability, and efficiency, especially to organs with complex anatomies, due to a lack of appropriate mechanical and/or material properties. Here, we report a bioelectronic patch for organ-conformal, kirigami-structured electro-transfection (POCKET) that features high conformality enabled by parametric customization, achieving a theoretically maximum effective coverage area over the target organ. The four-layered POCKET forms a unique nanopore-cell juxtaposition configuration at the tissue-device interface, which induces precise, uniform electro-perforation while expediting intracellular transport of payloads. The high delivery efficiency and precise spatial controllability have been systematically validated with various organs. POCKET-mediated therapeutic delivery achieved organ protection from accumulated DNA damage or ischemia-reperfusion injury, restoring organ functionalities. This work presents a customizable technique with translational value for precise therapy in challenging target organs.

Inspired by nature's sophisticated use of light energy, we report a bioinspired antibacterial trap switch operating without exogenous competitors. This work engineers a light-gated supramolecular system where host-guest conformational reorganization between cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) and dicationic symmetric azobenzene derivative (Azo- E ) enables precise control over antimicrobial agent release. Upon ultraviolet (UV) irradiation triggers E - Z isomerization, enhancing its binding affinity to CB[8] and resulting in steric displacement of the encapsulated antibacterial agent through conformational reorganization. This system achieves >99.9% bacterial eradication, supports reversible switching across four conventional antibacterial agents, and reduces mammalian cell cytotoxicity. Spray-coatable on different biomaterial surfaces, it demonstrates spatial precision for localized disinfection. This molecular engineering establishes a general platform for spatiotemporally precise regulation of bioactive cargoes, enabling adaptive supramolecular systems with infection control.

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) treatments often lack target specificity and have significant side effects. A key pathological driver is the excessive necroptosis of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs), which disrupts the gut barrier. To address this, we designed an intelligent oral theranostic nanoplatform, CurN@I, to dismantle the necroptosis-inflammation axis. CurN@I consists of a barium sulfate (BaSO 4 ) core for computed tomography (CT) imaging, encapsulated within a pH-responsive silk protein nanosponge. This scaffold is co-loaded with a necroptosis inhibitor (Necrostatin-1s, Nec-1s) and an antioxidant (demethoxycurcumin, DMC). The nanostructure is condensed in the acidic stomach but swells at the neutral pH of the inflamed intestine for localized drug release. Its negative surface charge facilitates durable electrostatic adhesion to the inflamed mucosa. In murine UC models, oral CurN@I significantly outperformed first-line clinical drugs. Mechanistic analysis showed it inhibits IEC necroptosis, alleviates oxidative stress, promotes barrier regeneration, and reshapes the gut microbiome. This work presents a non-invasive, targeted oral strategy that integrates diagnosis with multi-faceted therapy to restore intestinal homeostasis, demonstrating strong potential for clinical translation.

This study presents a novel optical fiber sensor based on a MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 @CTS ion-imprinted polymer (MFC-IIP) functionalized single-mode fiber-no-core fiber-multi-mode fiber-no-core fiber-single-mode fiber (SNMNS) structure for the quantitative detection of trace cadmium ions (Cd 2+ ) in solution. The MFC-IIP nanomaterial was coated onto the surface of the SNMNS fiber structure as a selective sensing membrane to enable highly sensitive and specific detection of Cd 2+ . The experimental results demonstrate that the sensor achieves a maximum detection sensitivity of 119.06 nm/μM for cadmium ions, with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.77 nM. This study introduces a novel detection approach applicable to real-time online water quality monitoring, early diagnosis of chronic cadmium poisoning, and the rapid analysis of heavy metal cadmium in complex traditional Chinese medicine matrices.
