Graphite-phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) has shown great potential for antibiotic wastewater treatment due to its unique electronic structure and corresponding to visible light. In this study, a series of Bi/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 photocatalysts with different doping amount were developed by direct calcination method for Rhodamine B and sulfamethoxazole photocatalytic degradation . The experiment result shows that the photocatalytic performance of Bi/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 catalysts were better than that of single component samples. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the degradation rates of RhB (20 min) and SMX (120 min) by 3Bi/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 reached 98.3% and 70.5%, respectively. The theoretical calculation results of DFT show that after Bi and Ce doping modification, the band-gap width of g-C 3 N 4 is reduced to 1.215 eV and carrier migration rate is greatly improved. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was mainly attributed to the capture of electrons after doping modification, which inhibition of photogenerated carriers recombination and reduced the gap width. The cyclic treatment experiment of sulfamethoxazole showed that Bi/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 catalysts had good stability. Ecosar evaluation and leaching toxicity test showed that Bi/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 can be safely used for wastewater treatment. This study provides a perfect strategy for modifying g-C 3 N 4 and a new way to improve the photocatalytic performance.

In this work, a Ni-supported CeO 2 -Al 2 O 3 catalyst, called NiCeAl-RMO (reduced metal-oxide), was prepared via air calcination and H 2 reduction of NiCeAl-LDH (layered double hydroxide). The NiCeAl-RMO catalyst shows superior CO 2 methanation activity, especially at low temperature (250 °C), and it performed 78.6% CO 2 conversion with ∼ 100% CH 4 selectivity. Compared with NiAl-RMO, the NiCeAl-RMO catalyst prepared via the Ce-doping strategy has significantly improved CO 2 methanation activity. Characterizations revealed that Ce doping would increase the amount of active Ni 0 species, cause a large number of oxygen vacancies, and generate new moderate basicity sites on the catalyst. In addition, in situ DRIFTS found that, unlike the RWGS + CO methanation mechanism over NiAl-RMO, the CO 2 methanation mechanism over NiCeAl-RMO followed the formate pathway by generating bidentate carbonate species, which was revealed as a key intermediate for enhancing the low-temperature activity of CO 2 methanation.

A detailed extraction equilibrium study is experimentally performed to understand the extraction mechanisms of Ce(IV) by 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (C 4 mimNTf 2 ) in 1,2-dichloroethane. Further, the influence of adding TBP on the distribution ratio is investigated and demonstrated. The ceric aqueous chemistry in the nitric acid solution and slope analysis are combined to reveal the extraction mechanism. The monovalent anionic complex HCe(NO 3 ) 6 − is the dominant species, which extracted by C 4 mimNTf 2 . Importantly, this study demonstrates the antagonistic effect between TBP and C 4 mimNTf 2 on the extraction process.

Ni, Ce, and Ta modified Ti/SnO 2 –Sb 2 O 5 –RuO 2 anodes were first prepared by thermal decomposition strategy and applied for Orange G degradation to explore the effect of Ni, Ce, and Ta modification on electrocatalytic property. The Ta modified anode showed the highest ·OH generation capability and the lowest charge transfer resistance among all samples, conducive to electrocatalytic degradation of Orange G. Besides, the Ta modified anode shows more cracks than Ni and Ce modified anodes, which is expected to create more specific surface areas and more exposed active sites for Orange G degradation. The degradation efficiency and the total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate increased in the order Ru < Ru–Ni < Ru–Ce < Ru–Ta, with Ru–Ta showing the highest degradation efficiency of 98.6% and 44.2%, much higher than 79.6% and 27.5% of Ru, respectively.

The current study investigates Ce-modified SrFeO 3- δ oxygen carriers for oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of ethane coupled with CO 2 splitting in a chemical looping manner. During 39 cycles of redox testing over the sample of 0.2Ce/SrFeO 3 , up to 29% ethane conversion and 82% ethylene selectivity are achieved, and the CO generation in the subsequent CO 2 splitting step is 0.25 mmol/g. XPS characterization results indicate decreased Fe 2+ /(Fe 3+ +Fe 4+ ) ratio as well as increased active oxygen species proportion on the near-surface of Ce-modified samples, which are responsible for the improved activity of the 0.2Ce/SrFeO 3 in ethane ODH reaction. DFT calculations further reveal that the increased ODH activity of 0.2Ce/SrFeO 3 is due to the lower surface oxygen vacancy formation energy upon Ce promotion. Moreover, the higher resistance of lattice oxygen diffusion from the bulk to the surface is the main reason for the superior ethylene selectivity attained by the CO 2 -regenerated sample than that by O 2 regeneration.

PDA interlayer enables uniform in situ growth of defective Ce-MOF on chitosan. • Ce-ATA-25PA@PDA@CS achieves a phosphate capacity of 126.6 mg P g −1 . • Phosphate removal reaches 98.6% in real aquaculture wastewater within 60 min. • Synergistic ligand exchange, electrostatic attraction, and H-bonding drive uptake. • The microspheres retain over 68% phosphate removal after five regeneration cycles. The excessive accumulation of phosphate in water bodies can disrupt the ecological balance and pose a threat to human health, highlighting the urgent need for efficient and economically viable adsorbents to treat waters with high phosphorus content. The defective cerium-based metal–organic framework (Ce-MOF) has shown considerable potential for phosphate removal due to its abundant coordinatively unsaturated Ce active sites. However, the high cost of pure Ce-MOF limits its practical application in the large-scale treatment of phosphorus-containing wastewater. In this study, the composite microspheres (Ce-ATA-25PA@PDA@CS) as phosphorus adsorbents were successfully prepared by in situ growth strategy when the new defective Ce-MOF (Ce-ATA-25PA) grew on the surface of the polydopamine coated chitosan microspheres (PDA@CS). The PDA interlayer promoted a denser and more uniform distribution of Ce-ATA-25PA on the chitosan support, and the resulting composite microspheres exhibited an increased specific surface area and a maximum phosphate adsorption capacity of 126.6 mg P/g under the optimized conditions. Mechanistic investigations have shown that phosphate uptake is influenced by the synergistic coupling of multiple interactions: the phosphate uptake involved Ce–O–P interactions at Ce sites together with contributions from the –NH₂ and –OH groups of the PDA@CS support through electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding. This work provides presents an environmentally friendly, and efficient MOF/biomass composite adsorbent, which can be used for treating phosphorus-containing wastewater treatment and offers a useful strategy for designing advanced MOF/biopolymer materials for aquatic environmental remediation. Calcium bismuth niobate (CBNO), known for its high Curie temperature ( T C ), has been investigated as a potential material for vibration sensor due to its ability to operate at elevated temperatures. However, the inherent weakness in piezoelectric response of CBNO has limited its sensing performance. This study successfully induced pseudo-tetragonal distortion in CBNO through the co-doping effects of K/Ce at A site and In/W at B site. This modification altered the interaction between the perovskite layer and the bismuth layer, thereby enhancing both piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties. The co-doped Ca 0.94 (K 0.5 Ce 0.5 ) 0.06 Bi 2 Nb 1.96 (In 1/3 W 2/3 ) 0.04 O 9 exhibits a significantly enhanced piezoelectric coefficient ( d 33 ) of 22.3 pC/N, compared to the 5~7 pC/N for pure CBNO ceramics, and the remanent polarization ( P r ) increased to 11.91 μC/cm 2 , compared to 3.83 μC/cm 2 for CBNO. Furthermore, the sample maintains a suitable resistivity ( ρ = 2.46 × 10 5 Ω·cm) even at 600°C. This work not only deepens the understanding of bismuth layer structure ferroelectrics (BLSFs) but also proposes a viable co-doping strategy, providing an effective approach for developing high-performance, high-temperature-resistant piezoelectric sensors.

Antibiotics cannot be completely removed through traditional treatment technologies, leading to their accumulation in the aquatic environment and posing a serious threat to human health. MOF-derived carbon is a promising material for the degradation of antibiotics. Herein, in this study, a novel Co/Ce-MOF electrode was rapidly prepared by one-step electrodeposition at room temperature. Then the Co/Ce-MOF electrode was carbonized to obtain MOF-derived carbon composite electrode (Co/Ce-C350Air). The ceftazidime (CAZ) degradation efficiency achieved 96.59% within 60 min under the optimum conditions ([CAZ] = 5 mg/L, [Na 2 SO 4 ] = 50 mM, current density = 0.8 mA/cm 2 , electrode gap = 2 cm and initial pH = 5.6) and the degradation process of CAZ conformed to first-order reaction kinetics. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of CAZ maintained at 94.92% even recycling for 6 times, demonstrating the good electrochemical stability of the Co/Ce-C350Air composite anode. The synergistic effect between Co and Ce metals improved the catalytic performance and stability of the Co/Ce-C350Air electrode. Radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra results revealed that surface hydroxyl radicals were the main active species in the degradation of CAZ. The main intermediate products were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and the possible degradation pathway was proposed. In addition, toxicity tests with Ecological Structure Activity Relationships (ECOSAR) software results indicated that the toxicity of the intermediate products was lower than that of CAZ. This work provided a safe and effective strategy for the degradation of antibiotics in the electrochemical oxidation system.

Ce-PA-Tb polymer with Ce and Tb as metal ion centers was prepared and applied in chemiluminescence (CL) reaction. The structure and property of Ce-PA-Tb were explored. Ce-PA-Tb combines both the oxidant ion (Ce(IV)) and luminescence ion (Tb(III)). Difloxacin can enhance the CL signal of Ce-PA-Tb-SO 3 2- reaction in acidic medium. Under the optimized affecting factors, a CL method for the selective difloxacin determination was established. The CL intensity showed a good linear relationship from 10.0 to 300.0 μg/L (r = 0.9996) with the limit of detection was 1.1 μg/L. The method with the signal response at 0.5 s and completed the CL process within 10 s. The method was used to determine difloxacin in aquatic products, and the recovery rate was in the range of 88.1%–104.0%. The CL method designed Ce-PA-Tb based is demonstrated to be an excellent tool for difloxacin determination in aquatic products.

A series of Y Ce catalysts were prepared using Y-loaded (Y = Cu, Co, Mn) Ce-based metal–organic framework as a precursor. Mn-loaded CeO 2 exhibited significantly better catalytic activity in the catalytic oxidation of ethyl acetate (EA) than noble metal catalyst. The relationship between the physicochemical properties of Y Ce catalysts and catalytic activity was studied by different characterization methods. The enhanced catalytic activity was attributed to the strong interaction between the transition metals and Ce, high specific surface area, abundant lattice defects, more oxygen vacacies and higher O latt /(O latt + O ads + O w ) molar ratios. The main intermediates in the oxidation of EA were ethanol, acetic acid, acetone, acetaldehyde and diethyl ether.

Extraction reactor is a major research area of interest within the field of rare earths extraction and separation. SiC foam offers excellent material characteristics as well as three-dimensional (3-D) reticulated structure; however, very little research has been carried out on its application in extraction reactor so far. In this work, a static mixer reactor based on SiC foam was designed and demonstrated to extract and separate Ce(III) and Pr(III) from nitric acid media by using 2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) as extractant. The structure–performance relationship between SiC foam and extraction performance was studied by experiment combined with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The experiment data are in good agreement with the simulation results. Contrast experiment by using a Kenics mixer was carried out, and SiC foam shows better extraction and mass transfer performance. Using the optimal structural SiC foam (pore size D = 2.3 mm, open porosity ε = 85%, foam length L = 80 mm), high extraction efficiency η (Pr(III): 94.6%, Ce(III): 88.5%) and separation factor β (2.27) between Ce(III) and Pr(III) is achieved at a high total throughput of 200 mL/min. Besides, overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient K L a of Pr(III) and Ce(III) are 0.519 and 0.378 s −1 at the residence time τ of 3.6 s, respectively, which reach the high level of microchannel reactors and are better than conventional extractors and other static mixers. SiC foam is found to be applicable as a static mixer for efficient and high-throughput extraction and separation of rare earths.

C e/ZnO decorated carbon nanofibers(CNFs) heteroarchitectures(Ce/ZnO/CNFs) have been synthesized using electrospinning technique followed hydrothermal method, which have a high visible light photocatalytic activity. The samples were characterized by means of SEM, FTIR and XRD. The photocatalytic performance of Ce/ZnO/CNFs was tested with the methylene blue in the presence of visible light irradiation. In this work, we have analyzed the effects of Ce doping amount, initial methylene blue(MB) concentration and dosage of Ce/ZnO/CNFs on photocatalytic efficiency of the composite. The results showed that the photocatalyst containing 1.0% Ce in molarity(CZC1) obtained by autoclaving at 150 °C has the best photocatalytic degradation of MB than other as-synthesized samples. Ce/ZnO/CNFs catalysts exhibit a good stability and reusability, which would be an economical and environmentally friendly photocatalyst for various practical applications.
