Cadmium (Cd(II)) is highly toxic to environmental, and while many approaches have been developed to measure cumulative Cd(II) concentration over time, online monitoring of spatiotemporal changes remains challenging. To address this, an electrochemical sensor for determination of ultra-trace Cd(II) was developed, based on gold/graphene oxide/copper oxide (Au/GO/CuO) nanomaterials modifying glassy carbon electrode. CuO nanoparticles were prepared by a green synthesis method using plant extract, and the Au nanoparticles were deposited on the GO/CuO nanosubstrates by an in situ electrochemical method. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The CuO nanoparticles are layered flower-like with an average particle size of 200–500 nm. Au/GO/CuO nanocomposites with high specific surface area and excellent electronic transmission capability enhanced the electrochemical signal of the sensor. Owing to the synergistic effect of Au/GO/CuO, the sensor exhibited good performance to Cd(II) in the ultra-wide range of 5 × 10−11–5 × 10−7 M with a detection limit of 2 × 10−11 M. The sensor was successfully quantified for determining Cd(II) with desirable recovery, displaying outstanding long-term stability, high sensitivity, and reproducibility. After validating its accuracy, this sensor was successfully used for detection of Cd(II) in water and cosmetic samples.

Graphene oxide (GO) and copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) were incorporated to modulate and enhance the fluorescence properties of pegylated graphite phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 -PEG). Combined with the specific recognition capability of a molecular imprinted polymer (MIP), a highly sensitive and selective fluorescent molecular imprinted probe for dopamine detection was developed. The fluorescent g-C 3 N 4 -PEG was synthesized from melamine and modified with GO and Cu NPs to obtain GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs. Subsequently, MIP was prepared on the surface of GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs using dopamine as the template molecule. Upon elution of the template molecule, a dopamine-specific GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs/MIP fluorescence probe was obtained. The fluorescence intensity of the probe was quenched through the adsorption of different concentrations of dopamine by the MIP, thus establishing a novel method for the detection of dopamine. The linear range of dopamine detection was from 5 × 10 −11 to 6 × 10 −8 mol L −1 , with a detection limit of 2.32 × 10 −11 mol L −1 . The sensor was utilised for the detection of dopamine in bananas, achieving a spiked recovery rate between 90.3% and 101.3%. These results demonstrate that the fluorescence molecular imprinted sensor developed in this study offers a highly sensitive approach for dopamine detection in bananas.

Solid–solid phase change materials (SSPCMs) are considered one of the most promising candidates for thermal energy storage due to their efficient heat storage and discharge capabilities. However, achieving both stable enthalpy and material versatility remains a significant challenge in the development of SSPCMs. In this study, we propose a simple but effective strategy for fabricating SSPCMs with high latent heat and mechanical strength. The polymers rely on triethanolamine to facilitate cross-linking and intermolecular hydrogen bonding, creating a strong cross-linking network within the material. This approach enables the SSPCM to exhibit a high phase transition enthalpy (101.2 J g−1), excellent flexibility, superior tensile strength (∼35.96 MPa), and remarkable tensile strain (∼1275.4%). Additionally, the materials demonstrate excellent shape stability, shape memory, and self-healing properties, attributed to the cross-linking network. Furthermore, we add graphene oxide to the system to enhance its potential for efficient conversion, storage and release of solar energy, and the final solar thermal storage efficiency, with the addition of 0.5% GO, can reach 92%.

An efficient hydrophobic and lipophilic cotton fabric was designed for oil/water separation. ZIF-8 (zeolitic imidazolate framework-8) nanocrystals were synthesized and subsequently uniformly mixed with a GO (graphene oxide) dispersion, and then the cotton fabric was immersed in a pre-crosslinked PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) solution and the mixture of ZIF-8 and GO to form rough and dense surface morphology and to achieve hydrophobic modification. Its surface morphologies, chemical structures , contact angles, and oil/water separation performances were characterized. The ability of prepared fabric with a separation efficiency was better than 95 % on average for various types of oil/water mixtures demonstrated the hydrophobic/oleophilic property, meanwhile, demonstrated a noteworthy degree of durability. It holds significant practical implications for the development of environmentally friendly and highly efficient materials for oil/water separation.

Ascorbic acid (AA) plays an important role in many physiological and biochemical processes. Adequate quantification of AA is required for controlling the intake of AA for health management. In this study, a portable probe was fabricated based on the assembled FePO4@GO nanozyme by homogeneous precipitation. FePO4@GO exhibits excellent peroxidase (POD) activity. As an efficient free radical scavenger, ascorbic acid scavenges1O2free radicals produced by hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by peroxidase enzymes and then inhibits the color reaction of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). A good linear relationship between the color of the reaction system and the concentration of AA in the range of 2.5–75 μM was presented, and the detection limit is 1.25 μM. Furthermore, a visual colorimetric detection platform was constructed using a smartphone. The AA content is accurately reflected by intelligent recognition of color changes in the reaction system. It provides an alternative approach for portable and visual rapid detection of Vitamin C (VC) in medicine. Meanwhile, it also provides a reference for the assembly of an intelligent detection platform based on nanozymes.

Graphical In this study, the ZIF-8/GO composite was successfully prepared by the one-pot method and applied to the highly efficient removal of CR from high-concentration saline wastewater. The maximum removal ratio was up to 98%. Meanwhile, it was revealed that the removal of CR by ZIF-8/GO depended on hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interaction, and π-π stacking. Dye wastewater is high-concentration salt-containing chemical wastewater. It contains numerous toxic pollutants that are difficult to degrade, and its direct discharge without treatment will cause serious environmental problems. Herein, ZIF-8/GO adsorbent was prepared by the one-pot method to purify wastewater containing Congo red dye (CR). ZIF-8/GO possessed an S BET of 70.252 m 2 /g, pore volume of 0.036 cm 3 /g, and pore size of 3.22 nm. Adsorption experiments of ZIF-8/GO were performed based on various parameters, such as pH, concentration, dose, temperature, and salt concentration. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of ZIF-8/GO was better than ZIF-8 and GO for CR, which the adsorption process of 0.1-ZIF-8/GO (10.0 mg) for CR (50 mg/L) reached equilibrium in 60 min at 35 °C under the high-salt parameter (10 g/L NaCl). And the maximum removal ratio was up to 98%. Adsorption data were fitted using the Langmuir, and Freundlich isotherm models and pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order kinetics model and liquid film diffusion model, intra-particle diffusion model. The results indicated that the quasi-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model were more suitable to describe the adsorption process for the removal of CR by ZIF-8/GO. ZIF-8/GO possesses a high removal ratio and it has promising applications in high-concentration salts-containing wastewater.

Large bone defects present significant clinical challenges, with distraction osteogenesis (DO) requiring prolonged treatment periods and yielding suboptimal outcomes. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) demonstrates potent bone-forming activity but suffers from rapid degradation and a short half-life, limiting its therapeutic applications. This study engineered sustained-release CGRP microspheres using poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide)/nano-hydroxyapatite/graphene oxide (PLGA/nHA/GO) composite matrices via W/O/W double emulsion-solvent evaporation method to address these limitations. The fabricated microspheres exhibited uniform spherical morphology (51.15 ± 0.40 μm), high encapsulation efficiency (86.14 ± 2.5 %), and sustained CGRP release over 42 days. In vitro studies compared four groups: control (untreated), blank microspheres, free CGRP solution, and CGRP-loaded microspheres. CGRP microspheres significantly enhanced rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell proliferation, migration capacity, and osteogenic differentiation compared to all other treatment groups. Mechanistic investigations confirmed activation of the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway with upregulation of osteogenic transcription factors (Runx2, Osterix) and bone matrix proteins (osteopontin, osteocalcin). In a rat femoral distraction osteogenesis model, CGRP microspheres demonstrated superior bone regeneration compared to control, blank microspheres, and free CGRP groups: substantially increased bone mineral density, significantly improved biomechanical properties, and accelerated bone formation. Histological analysis confirmed enhanced bone maturation and integration This engineered sustained-release system represents a promising therapeutic platform for enhancing bone regeneration through targeted molecular pathway activation, offering significant potential for clinical translation in orthopedic applications.

Bisphenol compounds, including BPA and BPS, are significant pollutants found in the environment, food, and daily necessities. They pose various adverse effects, including estrogenic, immunotoxic, metabolic, and reproductive toxicity, which severely threaten human health and ecological safety. Achieving simultaneous rapid detection of BPA and BPS is still very challenging due to their similar structures and co-existence in actual samples at ultratrace level. This study addresses the problem of developing an effective method for the rapid detection of BPA and BPS simultaneously. A new electrochemical nanosensor based on ionic liquid (IL) coupled Zr-MOF@GO was developed for ultrasensitive real-time detection of BPA and BPS. The Zr-MOF@GO/IL nanocomposite features a custom-built structure with an ordered framework, abundant pores, and highly coupled interfaces. The experimental findings demonstrate that the introduction of IL enhances the conductivity and dispersibility of the nanocomposite, improves the absorption capability for target bisphenols, and significantly improves the detection limit and linear range of the Zr-MOF@GO based electrochemical sensor. The sensor demonstrated wide linear ranges with detection limits of 5.5 nmol/L for BPA and 7.1 nmol/L for BPS (S/N = 3), respectively. Comparative studies revealed that the detection limits of the Zr-MOF@GO/IL-based sensor improved by an order of magnitude compared to the Zr-MOF@GO-based sensor. Additionally, the sensor exhibited superior analytical performance regarding reproducibility, stability, and selectivity. This study investigated the capability and synergy of IL coupled high-valent stable transition metal Zr IV -based MOFs in electrochemical sensing for the first time. This development sets a new benchmark in non-enzymatic electrochemical sensing, establishing the Zr-MOF@GO/IL-based sensor as a promising platform for the individual or simultaneous rapid detection of bisphenols in actual samples.

Graphene oxide membranes (GOMs) are a focal point in nanofiltration research due to their exceptional stability and tunable nanometer-scale interlayer structures. However, the weak interactions (e.g., π–π stacking, hydrogen bonding) maintaining GO interlayers are prone to instability, leading to swelling or compression under external stimuli and posing challenges for precise molecular sieving. To address this, the authors propose intercalating PPy-encapsulated UiO-66-NH₂ (PPy@UiO) as a rigid crosslinker within GOMs. The amino groups on PPy@UiO bind adjacent GO layers via electrostatic interactions, suppressing swelling, while the rigid and porous structure enhances mechanical stability without compromising permeability. The GO/PPy@UiO composite membrane exhibits minimal swelling, with interlayer spacing increasing by only 1 Å in hydrated conditions (10.06 Å vs. 9.05 Å dry), significantly less than the 4.7 Å observed in pure GOM. Moreover, the membrane maintains consistent dye rejection performance under both low (1 bar) and high (5 bar) pressures, achieving 71.3 % rejection for methylene blue (MB) and 96.3 % for Evans blue (EBT). Crucially, this structure demonstrates long-term stability over 60 h and allows precise tuning of interlayer spacing and filtration performance by adjusting UiO particle growth. This work provides a practical strategy for designing high-performance, stable, and tunable nanofiltration membranes.

A promising electrochemical sensing platform for the detection of ponceau 4R in food has been fabricated based on the carboxylated graphene oxide (GO-COOH), metal–organic framework (MOF) UIO-66-NH 2 , and poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). To this end GO-COOH was covalently coupled with UIO-66-NH 2 through amide reaction, endowing the material (GO-CONH-UIO-66) unique hierarchical pores and high chemical stability and as a result improving the conductivity of MOF and the dispersion of GO. After the addition of PEDOT:PSS into GO-CONH-UIO-66, the continuity and conductivity of the composite (PEDOT:PSS/GO-CONH-UIO-66) have been further enhanced, due to the high conductivity, favorable film-forming, and hydrophilic properties of PEDOT:PSS. Systematic electrochemical experiments confirm that the PEDOT:PSS/GO-CONH-UIO-66/GCE shows satisfactory electrochemical sensing properties towards the detection of ponceau 4R, with a wide linear detection range of 0.01–30 μM, a low limit of detection of 3.33 nM, and a high sensitivity of 0.606 μA μM −1 cm −2 . The PEDOT:PSS/GO-CONH-UIO-66 sensing platform was successfully used to detect ponceau 4R in beverage, and the detection results were compared with high-performance liquid chromatography. As a result, the PEDOT:PSS/GO-CONH-UIO-66 composite shows a promising application prospect for rapid detection of ponceau 4R in food and will play significant role in food safety detection and supervision. Conductive hydrogels have promising prospects in wearable strain sensor applications. However, the complex and diverse application scenarios put forward higher requirements on the conductivity, anti-freezing, tensile, self-healing, adhesion, and moisture retention properties of the conductive hydrogel. In this study, a polymagnesium acrylate/glycerol/graphene oxide (PAMgA/GL/GO) conductive hydrogel is prepared by free radical polymerization method, with magnesium acrylate (AMgA) as the polymer monomer, glycerol (GL) as the antifreeze filler, and graphene oxide (GO) as the conductive filler. Adding GL not only enhances the antifreeze properties of the composite hydrogels but also improves the moisture retention. The addition of GO increases the conductivity and the gauge factor (GF) of the composite hydrogels. When the GO content is 0.6 wt.%, the PAMgA/GL/GO conductive hydrogel demonstrates excellent properties of antifreeze, conductivity, self-healing, adhesion, and sensitivity. These excellent properties make it suitable as a wearable strain sensor for accurately monitoring human joint movements and subtle physiological signals.

Shape-stabilized phase change materials (SPCMs) are green, reusable energy storage materials. Because the melting temperature ofn-alkyl acrylate copolymer is adjustable by controlling the side-chain length, the appropriate melting temperature can be achieved. Poly(tetradecyl acrylate-co-hexadecyl acrylate) (P(TDA-co-HDA)) with a molar ratio of 1:1 and SPCMs were fabricated via an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method and a solution blending method with P(TDA-co-HDA) as a thermal storage material and graphene oxide (GO) as a supporting substance. In this composite, an SPCM was achieved, which absorbed heat at 29.9 °C and released it at 12.1 °C with a heat storage capacity of 70 J/g at a mass ratio of GO of 10%. The material retained its shape without any leakage at 60 °C, which was much higher than that of the melting temperature of P(TDA-co-HDA). The SPCMs exhibited good crystallization behaviors and excellent thermal reliabilities after 100 thermal cycles. The thermal properties of the P(TDA-co-HDA)/GO composite PCMs with various GO loadings were also investigated. The novel shape-stabilized PCMs fabricated in this study have potential uses in thermal energy storage applications.Keywords:shape-stabilized PCMs;alkyl acrylate;thermal energy storage;graphene oxide
