Rechargeable lithium–sulfur batteries have attracted tremendous scientific attention owing to their high energy density. However, their practical application is greatly hindered by the notorious shuttling of soluble lithium polysulfide (LPS) intermediates with sluggish redox reactions and uncontrolled precipitation behavior. Herein, we report a semiliquid cathode composed of an active LPS solution/carbon nanofiber (CNF) composite layer, capped with a carbon nanotube (CNT) thin film decorated with metallic Mo nanoclusters that regulate the electrochemical redox reactions of LPS. The trace amount (0.05 mg cm–2) of metallic Mo on the CNT film provides sufficient capturing centers for the chemical immobilization of LPS. Together with physical blocking of LPS by the compact CNT film, free diffusion of LPS is significantly restrained and the self-discharge behavior of the Li–S cell is thus effectively suppressed. Importantly, the metallic Mo nanoclusters enable fast catalytic conversion of LPS and regular deposition of lithium sulfide. As a result, the engineered cathode exhibits a high active sulfur utilization (1401 mAh g–1 at 0.1 C), stable cycling (500 cycles at 1 C with 0.06% decay per cycle), high rate performance (694 mAh g–1 at 5 C), and low self-discharge rate (3% after 72 h of rest). Moreover, a high reversible areal capacity of 4.75 mAh cm–2 is maintained after 100 cycles at 0.2 C for a cathode with a high sulfur loading of 7.64 mg cm–2. This work provides significant insight into the structural and materials design of an advanced sulfur-based cathode that effectively regulates the electrochemical reactions of sulfur species in high-energy Li–S batteries.

This paper demonstrates the availability of electro-codeposition (i.e., the simultaneous occurrence of electrophoretic deposition of nanoparticles and electrochemical deposition of metal ions) in molten salts without the assistance of stirring of the bath. In molten NaCl–KCl–AlCl 3 –MoO 3 system containing TiB 2 nanoparticles at 710°C, the electro-codeposition of TiB 2 nanoparticles and Mo(VI) ions has been achieved, and a (Ti, Mo)B 2 coating has been prepared.

Er 3+ -doped fiber lasers operating at 2.7 μm have attracted increasing interest because of their various important applications; however, the intrinsic self-terminating effect of Er 3+ and the reliability of glass hosts hindered the development of Er 3+ -doped fiber lasers. Herein, the glass-forming regions of a series TeO 2 –Ga 2 O 3 –R 2 O (or MO) (R = Li, Na, and Rb; M = Mg, Sr, Ba, Pb, and Zn) glasses are predicted by the thermodynamic calculation method. On this basis, the physical and optical properties of TeO 2 –Ga 2 O 3 –ZnO (TGZ) glass are investigated in detail as an example. Under the excitation of 980 nm laser diode, the fluorescence intensity at 2.7 μm reaches a maximum in the heavily Er 3+ -doped TGZ glass. By contrast, the accompanying near-infrared fluorescence at 1.5 μm and upconversion green emissions at 528 nm and 546 nm are all effectively weaken. Furthermore, the lifetime gap between the 4 I 11/2 upper laser level and 4 I 13/2 lower laser level is sharply narrowed from 2.81 ms to 0.59 ms, which is beneficial to overcome the population conversion bottleneck. All results demonstrate that these newly developed ternary tellurite glass systems are promising candidates for near-/mid-infrared laser glass fiber, fiber amplifiers, and fiber lasers.

Aiming for promoting the capacity and cycling stability of O3-type NaNi 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 (NFM), the cathode material of sodium ion batteries (SIBs) with the most potential for industrialization, Na(Ni 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 ) 0.99 Mo 0.01 O 1.99 F 0.01 (NFM-MoF), Na(Ni 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 ) 0.99 Mo 0.01 O 2 (NFM-Mo) and NaNi 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 1.99 F 0.01 (NFM-F) were successfully synthesized by solid phase method. The electrochemical performance of the doped samples was compared with that of the pristine NFM. The mechanism of the single- or dual-doping was explored by XRD Rietveld refinement and XPS. The NFM-MoF exhibits the highest initial specific discharge capacity of 137mAhg −1 at 1 C with a retention of 91.97% after 100 cycles and the smallest polarization (0.32 V), which could be contributed to the highest Ni 2+ content and highest D Na + (7.335 ×10 −13 cm 2 ·s −1 ) caused by the synergistic effect of Mo and F dual-doping. The highest Fe 3+ content in the NFM-Mo leads to the higher initial discharge capacity of 1 36 mAhg −1 at 1 C with a relative lower retention of 83.38%, which is due to the structure instability resulting from Fe migration and the lowest Mn content, than that of the NFM-F (85.31%). It illustrates that the Mn 4+ plays a crucial role in stabilizing the structure during Na + migrating. The superiority of the discharge capacity of the NFM-Mo become narrow with rates rise, due to its lower D Na + (4.229 ×10 −13 cm 2 ·s −1 ) than that of the NFM-F D Na + (5.681 ×10 −13 cm 2 ·s −1 ). It verifies that it is a diffusion control process at high rates. Mo and F dual-doping in NFM was proved to amplify the benefit of Ni 2+ increasing, meanwhile restrain undesirable Fe increasing due to the synergistic effect.

In this work, a series of Ni 1-x M x (M = Cr, Mo, W) nanoparticles (NPs) have been successfully synthesized via a simple surfactant-aided co-reduction method and employed as highly efficient and cost effective catalysts for hydrogen generation from aqueous solution of ammonia borane (NH 3 BH 3 , AB) at room temperature . It is found that the as-synthesized NiM NPs (M = Cr, Mo, W) exhibit much higher catalytic performance for the hydrolysis of AB as compared to that of pure Ni NPs. In addition, among all the Ni 1-x M x (M = Cr, Mo, W) NPs, the Ni 0.9 Cr 0.1 , Ni 0.9 Mo 0.1 , and Ni 0.8 W 0.2 NPs show the highest catalytic activities with the turnover frequency (TOF) values of 10.7, 27.3 and 25.0 mol H 2 (mol metal min) −1 , respectively. Remarkably, these optimized NiM catalysts can also perform efficiently in the hydrolysis of hydrazine borane (N 2 H 4 BH 3 , HB). The present low-cost and high-performance of the NiM catalysts system may encourage the practical application of AB and HB as the promising chemical hydrogen storage materials .

Electronic regulation through component precise control at the atomic level of electrocatalysts has a fundamental influence on the efficiency of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we successfully demonstrate a ZIF-based charge transfer medium for improving the electrocatalytic activity of MoS 2 towards HER. Benefit for the enough porous structure, superior electron conductivity as well as the synergistic effect from the doped atoms, the hybrids phase (1T/2H) MoS 2 nanoflowers decorated amorphous Mo-CoS x skeleton exhibited the promotional electrocatalytic performance in efficiency and stability. Specifically, an extremely low overpotential of 73 mV at the current density of −10 mA cm −2 and an impressive Tafel slope of 39.2 mV dec −1 had been achieved from the nanocomposites in an acidic condition (0.5 M H 2 SO 4 ). The satisfactory activity improvement can be ascribed to the enhancement of electronic transmission rate as well as the synergistic effects between the doped Mo element and CoS x . This work might develop a new avenue to design highly efficient multicomponent electrocatalysts towards HER.

The development of electrocatalysts that combine high activity with robust resistance to chlorine-induced corrosion remains a critical challenge for seawater electrocatalysis. Herein, we report a Mo-doped Ni3S2 (Mo-Ni3S2) bifunctional electrocatalyst grown in situ on nickel foam via a one-step hydrothermal method. In simulated seawater (1.0 M NaOH + 0.5 M NaCl), the optimal Mo-Ni3S2-50 catalyst exhibits exceptional bifunctional activity, requiring overpotentials of only 290 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and 175 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) to reach the current density of ±100 mA cm–2. More importantly, in situ characterizations reveal a dynamic equilibrium between Mo dopant dissolution and readsorption of molybdate species (MoO42–) during operation. This self-adaptive process not only enhances the OER activity by optimizing the reaction kinetics but also forms a chloride-repelling protective layer, endowing the catalyst with remarkable corrosion resistance and long-term stability (>300 h for OER at 100 mA cm–2). When assembled in an anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE), the Mo-Ni3S2-50∥Mo-Ni3S2-50 couple delivers excellent overall water splitting performance, requiring 1.7 V at 100 mA cm–2 and maintaining stable operation for over 165 h. This work elucidates a self-adaptive protection mechanism induced by Mo doping, offering a promising strategy for designing efficient and durable catalysts for practical seawater electrolysis and large-scale green hydrogen production.

Hybrid HfO 2 -PMA subnanobelts are synthesized by cluster–nuclei co-assembly. • Subnanometer belt morphology enhances piezoelectric polarization response. • Hf-O-Mo interfacial orbital coupling enhances charge separation. • PMA redox pairs act as electron buffers for efficient CO 2 activation. • Dilute CO 2 is efficiently converted into syngas via piezocatalysis. Efficient piezocatalytic conversion of dilute CO 2 into syngas offers a sustainable route for industrial flue gas valorization, yet conventional piezoelectric materials are often constrained by lattice rigidity and rapid charge recombination under weak mechanical stress. Herein, we constructed ultrathin 1D HfO 2 -phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) hybrid subnanobelts (SNBs) via cluster-nuclei co-assembly. The subnanometer architecture and flexible morphology induce an intense polarization response by leveraging the piezoelectric size effect, enabling HfO 2 -PMA SNBs to achieve remarkable CO and H 2 production rates of 4.5 and 5.8 mmol g −1 h −1 , respectively. In-situ FTIR spectra and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the asymmetric Hf-O-Mo interfacial coordination induces spontaneous electron transfer from HfO 2 to PMA, constructing a robust built-in electric field. Concurrently, the reversible redox properties of PMA clusters further enrich interfacial electron density and facilitate CO 2 adsorption and activation through Hf-O-Mo coupling, lowering the formation energy barrier of the key *COOH intermediates. This interfacial electronic structure engineering strategy establishes a novel paradigm for mechanical-energy-driven CO 2 conversion and offers a new approach for designing emerging sub-nanometer piezocatalysts. In response to the need for efficient elimination of methylene blue (MB) from dye-containing wastewater, a Mo, N-co-doped carbon quantum dot-modified BiVO 4 (5% Mo, N-CQDs/BiVO 4 ) composite photocatalyst was developed. Pristine BiVO 4 suffers from rapid charge carrier recombination and limited visible-light utilization. Introduction of Mo, N-CQDs establishes a synergistic enhancement mechanism: (1) Mo, N-CQDs act as electron mediators, improving interfacial charge separation and migration, as evidenced by reduced charge transfer resistance. Mo doping introduces impurity energy levels that trap electrons and retard recombination, while nitrogen doping enhances electron tunneling and reduces interfacial resistance. (2) UV-Vis DRS confirms bandgap narrowing and enhanced visible-light absorption. (3) Photoelectrochemical analysis reveals significantly enhanced photocurrent response and reduced charge transfer resistance, confirming improved charge separation efficiency. Under visible light, the composite achieved a degradation rate constant of 0.04089 min −1 toward MB, a 3.31-fold enhancement over pure BiVO 4 , with >95% removal within 80 min. Radical trapping identified superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ) and holes (h + ) as the predominant active species, with h + contributing ∼62% of the activity. The catalyst retained 88.65% of its initial efficiency after four cycles, demonstrating good stability. This study provides a viable charge-regulation strategy using multi-element co-doped carbon quantum dots for semiconductor modification, highlighting its potential in dye wastewater treatment.

Different from the traditional single strategy of strengthening molybdenum matrix, we designed a full chain preparation process to regulate the Mo-TiC alloy matrix at three scales. Refining the grain size of traditional large-sized molybdenum alloy from >10 μm to <3 μm lays the foundation for high strength. Next, optimizing the dislocation distribution to generate subgrain boundaries at lower scales and layered structures of low/high defect grain regions at higher scales. The subgrain boundaries with high stability due to ultrafine grain pinning could first pin dislocations and indirectly slow down the dislocation accumulation at grain boundaries. Furthermore, the cracks restricted by layered structure tend to propagate longitudinally, which reduces local stress concentration and promotes further stress dispersion through long-distance plastic deformation. Based on the above factors, the Mo-TiC alloy possesses a combination of high strength (792.9 MPa) and excellent plasticity (26.2%), which provides a new perspective for preparing high-performance refractory alloys.

Electrocatalytic conversion of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic waste into formate coupled with hydrogen generation represents a sustainable pathway for plastic upcycling. Herein, a nickel sulfide catalyst (Mo,Cl-Ni3S2) is developed for efficient and stable ethylene glycol (PET monomer) oxidation reaction (EGOR) through a Mo and Cl co-doping strategy. The optimized catalyst Mo,Cl-Ni3S2 possesses a high formate Faradaic efficiency of 94.0% at 1.55 V vs. RHE. Moreover, it maintains 83.3% of its initial activity after 95 hours continuous operation at an industrial current density of 300 mA/cm2. Experiment and theoretical simulations demonstrate Mo and Cl co-doping optimizes the electronic structure of Ni3S2 by upshifting the Ni d-band center and facilitates the in situ structure reconstruction during EGOR. Finally, an integrated acidification-precipitation-recrystallization strategy is proposed to separate and recover terephthalic acid (TPA) and potassium formate. This method offers a holistic approach for upcycling PET waste into value-added chemicals and hydrogen.

Encapsulating the USY zeolite within a mesoporous SBA-15 shell is a promising strategy to construct hierarchical catalysts with regulated acidity. However, the acidic conditions required for SBA-15 synthesis pose a stability challenge to the acid-sensitive USY core. In this work, we first systematically investigated the physicochemical evolution of USY under simulated SBA-15 synthesis conditions by varying the acid concentration, temperature, and treatment time. Through XRD, N2 physisorption, NH3-TPD, and Py-FTIR analysis, the optimal conditions for USY to retain its framework integrity and Brønsted acidity were determined to be ≤1.0 M HCl and treatment time ≤24 h. This acid-tailored optimization is essential for the subsequent fabrication of the core–shell structure. Guided by these findings, the Ni–Mo/USY@SBA-15 core–shell catalyst is successfully prepared and evaluated in naphthalene hydrocracking, achieving 97.8% conversion and 51.6% BTX selectivity, outperforming conventional Ni–Mo/USY (92.6% conversion and 26.0% BTX selectivity). XPS analysis provides direct evidence of the spatially regulated metal-acid distribution and enhanced electron density on active sites. The performance enhancement is attributed to the hierarchical pore structure and the spatially regulated metal-acid distribution, which together enhance mass transfer, optimize acid site accessibility, and suppress overcracking. This study provides an acid-tolerance-guided synthesis strategy for designing high-performance core–shell zeolite catalysts.
