Ce-MoS2/Ag3PO4 nanocomposites with peroxidase-like activity as photoinduced antibacterial agents

Liu Junli,Liu Jin,Cheng Wenxia,Yi Yunxiao,Shen Jiahao,Zhang Hua,Li Junqi,Liu Hui,Bao Yan,Hui Aiping

Bacterial contamination has bloomed into a vitality-threatening problem that plagues people. In this work, a fast and remarkable bactericidal material is developed from cerium-doped molybdenum disulfide (Ce-MoS 2 ) and silver phosphate (Ag 3 PO 4 ). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Ce-MoS 2 /Ag 3 PO 4 nanocomposites against S. aureus was 1.12 mg mL −1 , and the antibacterial rate reached to 95.3%, in comparison with 35% of pure MoS 2 . The excellent antibacterial activities of Ce-MoS 2 /Ag 3 PO 4 could be attributed to the doping of Ce and the generation of heterojunction assisted by Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ redox mediators between MoS 2 and Ag 3 PO 4 which boost the separation efficiency of electron–hole pairs and the formation of hydroxyl radical (·OH), superoxide anion (·O 2 − ). Furthermore, TMB colorimetric assay showed that the Ce-MoS 2 /Ag 3 PO 4 possesses enhanced POD-like catalytic activity, which could constantly catalyze the production of ·OH from H 2 O 2 to kill bacteria. The outcomes of the current study emphasize the importance of the Ce-MoS 2 /Ag 3 PO 4 as a novel antimicrobial material. Graphical abstract

Modulating MoS2 nanostructure by vanadium incorporation for high-efficiency hydrogen evolution reaction

Hailu Fan,Kuo Cao,Jinxiao Ba,Hui Cheng,Xianghai Yu,Aiying Song,Chengqun Xu,Yihua Wang,Donghua Fan

In this work, we reported a facile approach to fabricate molybdenum sulfide (MoS 2 ) electrocatalyst with the introduction of vanadium(V) for improved catalytic performance. The morphology of prepared samples can be characterizated by SEM observation. The XRD and XPS spectra further reveal that the proper amount of vanadium introduction can effectively prompt the increase of crystallinity and formation of edge-terminated structure in MoS 2 nanostructure . The experimental results display that the morphology of MoS 2 can be modulated by various amounts of V incorporation. The conductivity of prepared samples is increased by incorporating a certain amount of graphene. MoS 2 nanostructure with 20% V incorporation shows excellent catalytic performance, and the corresponding mechanism is also discussed. The electrochemical performance of 20%V-MoS 2 can be further improved by the introduction of appropriate graphene. Compared with pure MoS 2 samples, 20%V-MoS 2 /Graphene 7.5 shows a small resistance and excellent cycling stability in the acidic electrolyte, as well as the overpotential at 10 mA decreases from 213 mV to 168 mV.

Vacancy engineering of MoS2−X @NCNTs for efficient storage of zinc ions

Peng Zhao,Boxiong Shen,Guofei Shi,Jiancheng Yang,Fengju Lu,Qiqi Shi,Dongrui Kang,Chenguang Zhang

Zinc-ion batteries are receiving interest due to their high level of safety and eco-friendliness. However, the sluggish diffusion kinetics of zinc ions in the electrode limit its practical application. In this paper, rapid Zn 2+ diffusion in the MoS 2−X @NCNTs cathode is achieved by utilizing the S vacancies generated under a H 2 /Ar atmosphere and N-doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) derived from the pyrolysis of polyethylene and melamine. The presence of S vacancies significantly reduces the diffusion barrier of Zn 2+ , thereby promoting the transport of Zn 2+ ions. MoS 2−X @NCNTs cathode demonstrates an impressive discharge specific capacity of 220 mAh g −1 (0.1 A g −1 ) and a remarkable reversible capacity of 173 mAh g −1 (3 A g −1 ). Furthermore, the reduced adsorption energy of MoS 2−X nanosheets leads to Zn 2+ tending to preferentially insert S vacancies, resulting in a larger capacity than pure MoS 2 . This work realizes efficient storage of Zn 2+ in 2D disulfides through carbon frameworks and S vacancies. In addition, flexible zinc batteries with MoS 2−X @NCNTs cathodes have promising applications in wearable devices .

Efficiently activating peroxymonosulfate by CoFe-LDHs/MoS2 for rapid degradation of tetracycline

Jingyang Li,Haiyu Cao,Hongying Qi,Yuexiang Li,Sha Zhu,Xue Ye,Jintao Zhang,Zifeng Yu,Jiao Zhu,Xin Zhao

A series of CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -x (x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5) samples were successfully synthesized to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for tetracycline (TC) removal. With the introduction of MoS 2 could promote the catalytic performance via accelerating the Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ and Co 2+ /Co 3+ cycle. About 98.8 % of TC could be removed over 12 min under a neutral condition in the CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -0.2/PMS system, which was 4.4 times higher than that of CoFe-LDHs/PMS system. The main reactive oxygen species (ROS) in CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -0.2/PMS system were also explored by using quenching and free radical capture experiments. The singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) played a major role for the TC removal. Besides, the decomposition pathways of TC were deduced by UPLC-QTOF/MS, and the stability of catalysts had also been studied. This work provided theoretical and experimental basis for designing and preparation more effective heterogeneous catalysts for PMS activation .

Catalytic Conversion of Sugars into Lactic Acid via a RuOx/MoS2 Catalyst

Zongling Li,Pengfei Wu,Jifeng Pang,Xianquan Li,Shangru Zhai,Mingyuan Zheng

The catalytic transformation of sugars into lactic acid has shown great potential for the scalable utilization of renewable biomass. Herein, RuOx/MoS2catalysts were synthesized with the assistance of CaO for the one-pot conversion of glucose to lactic acid. Under the reaction conditions of 120 °C and 1 MPa O2, a 96.6% glucose conversion and a 54.3% lactic acid selectivity were realized in the one-pot catalytic reaction, with relatively high stability after four successive cycles. This catalytic system was also effective for the conversion of many other carbohydrate substrates, such as fructose, xylose and cellulose (selectivity 68.9%, 78.2% and 50.6%, respectively). According to catalyst characterizations and conditional experiments, the highly dispersed RuOxspecies on the surface of MoS2, together with OH−, promoted isomerization, retro-aldol condensation, dehydration and hydration reactions, resulting in a relatively high lactic acid yield for sugar conversions. Keywords:glucose;catalyst;lactic acid;ruthenium;calcium

Identification of Co–O–Mo Active Centers on Co-Doped MoS2 Electrocatalyst

Meilan Pan,Xue Zhang,Chenglei Pan,Jiong Wang,Bingjun Pan

Strategies for harmonizing the construction of an active site and the building of electron transport for a hybrid MoS2 catalyst are crucial for its application in electrochemical reactions. In this work, an accurate and facile hydrothermal strategy was proposed to fabricate the active center of Co–O–Mo on a supported MoS2 catalyst by forming a CoMoSO phase on the edge of MoS2, yielding (Co–O)x-MoSy (x = 0, 0.3, 0.6, 1, 1.5, or 2.1). The results show that the electrochemical performances (hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and electrochemical degradation) of the yielded MoS2-based catalysts were positively correlated with the Co–O bonds, verifying the significant role of Co–O–Mo as the active center. The fabricated (Co–O)-MoS0.9 presented an extremely low overpotential and Tafel slope in both HER and OER, and it also demonstrated excellent BPA removal in the electrochemical degradation reaction. As compared with the Co–Mo–S configuration, the configuration of Co–O–Mo not only serves as the active center but also provides a conducting channel to facilitate electron conductivity with more accessible charge transfer at the electrode/electrolyte interface, which is favorable for electrocatalytic reaction. This work offers a new perspective for the active mechanism of metallic-heteroatom-dopant electrocatalysts and further boosts research on the development of noble/non-noble hybrid electrocatalysts in the future.

ZnO nanoparticles on MoS2 microflowers for ultrasensitive SERS detection of bisphenol A

Quan Yingnan,Yao Jiacheng,Yang Shuo,Chen Lei,Li Jia,Liu Yang,Lang Jihui,Shen He,Wang Yaxin,Wang Yanyan,Yang Jinghai,Gao Ming

A heterojunction microcomposite was synthesized that consists of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) anchored on MoS 2 microflowers (MoS 2 MFs). The material is shown to enable trace level detection of the pollutant bisphenol A (BPA). The microcomposite was characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM and TEM. In addition, coupling reaction between phenolic estrogens and Pauly’s reagents was adopted to greatly enhance the SERS signal. BPA display a characteristic Raman band at 1592 cm −1 which can be used for its selective detection. The assay is highly sensitive and has a 1 nM detection limit which is the lowest among the reported semiconductor substrates. MoS 2 /ZnO MCs SERS substrate broke through the application barrier of semiconductor composite materials in SERS substrates. It also sheds light on a deeper understanding of the charge-transfer based enhancement mechanism.

Optimizing thermoelectric performance of MoS2 films by spontaneous noble metal nanoparticles decoration

Xia Li,Tongzhou Wang,Fengxing Jiang,Jing Liu,Peng Liu,Guoqiang Liu,Jingkun Xu,Congcong Liu,Qinglin Jiang

Two-dimensional (2D) layered transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) materials have been theoretically and experimentally proven to possess a good potential in thermoelectric (TE) energy harvesting. As a member of TMDCs, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) was severely hindered by poor electrical conductivity for better TE performance. Herein, noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) was employed to optimize the electrical conductivity of MoS 2 films by spontaneous decoration. As a result, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of MoS 2 films with a little Ag NPs load were simultaneously enhanced, which may result from the formation of more electrically conductive path and the stronger energy filtering effect generated by Ag NPs decoration. These results indicate that the conflict between thermoelectric factors can effectively resolve by spontaneous Ag NPs decoration. This technique may shed light on a new way for optimizing the TE energy harvesting efficiency for 2D TMDCs materials.

Redox/NIR dual-responsive MoS2 for synergetic chemo-photothermal therapy of cancer

Liu Jian,Li Feiyang,Zheng Junxia,Li Bifei,Zhang Doudou,Jia Lee

Background The construction of a multifunctional drug delivery system with a variety of advantageous features, including targeted delivery, controlled release and combined therapy, is highly attractive but remains a challenge. Results In this study, we developed a MoS2-based hyaluronic acid (HA)-functionalized nanoplatform capable of achieving targeted delivery of camptothecin (CPT) and dual-stimuli-responsive drug release. HA was connected to MoS2 via a disulfide linkage, forming a sheddable HA shell on the surface of MoS2. This unique design not only effectively prevented the encapsulated CPT from randomly leaking during blood circulation but also significantly accelerated the drug release in response to tumor-associated glutathione (GSH). Moreover, the MoS2-based generated heat upon near-infrared (NIR) irradiation could further increase the drug release rate as well as induce photothermal ablation of cancer cells. The results of in vitro and in vivo experiments revealed that MoS2–SS–HA–CPT effectively suppressed cell proliferation and inhibited tumor growth in lung cancer cell-bearing mice under NIR irradiation via synergetic chemo-photothermal therapy. Conclusion sThe as-prepared MoS2–SS–HA–CPT with high targeting ability, dual-stimuli-responsive drug release, and synergistic chemo-photothermal therapy may provide a new strategy for cancer therapy.

Ultrathin MoS2 Nanosheets Decorated Hollow CoP Heterostructures for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Yuancai Ge,Hang Chu,Jiyi Chen,Peiyuan Zhuang,Qianyi Feng,William R. Smith,Pei Dong,Mingxin Ye,Jianfeng Shen

Constructing regularly catalytic arrays is essential for electrochemical catalysis, especially for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In this work, two-dimensional zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) arrays were chosen as templates to construct few-layer MoS2-decorated hollow CoP. By coupling MoS2 nanosheets arrays and two-dimensional ZIF-67 derived CoP, the advantages of the active sites of MoS2 nanosheets edges and CoP are combined for efficient HER, which can drive a current density of 100 mA/cm2 in both acid (91 mV) and alkaline (135 mV) solutions for 10 h. Furthermore, the prepared catalyst can reach a current density of 10 mA/cm2 with overpotentials of only 53 and 77 mV in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M KOH, respectively. Most importantly, we believe replacing ZIF-67 powders with 2D ZIF-67 arrays can boost the electrochemical activities for HER and this method can provide us a guideline for the future application of two-dimensional ZIF-67 arrays to construct efficient electrocatalysts.

Xianpei Ren,Qingbo Wei,Pinyun Ren,Yonghua Wang,Yuehong Peng

In this work, uniform MoS 2 quantum dots (QDs) are fabricated by a novel hydrothermal-solvothermal cutting integrated route. The resulting products possess few-layer thickness with an average size about 2.6 nm. Due to the strong quantum confinement effect, the obtained MoS 2 QDs showed an enlarged band gap of 3.90 eV and a good photoluminescence property. Furthermore, this cost-effective and efficacious method may provide a potential advance for preparation of other layered material QDs.

Water-soluble MoS2 quantum dots are a viable fluorescent probe for hypochlorite

Wang Yi,Zhang Pu,Lu Qing,Wang Yue,Fu Wensheng,Tan Qin,Luo Weiping

A method is described for the fluorometric determination of hypochlorite. It is making use of molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS 2 QDs) as a fluorescent probe. The QDs are prepared by hydrothermal reaction of sodium molybdate with glutathione. They possess diameters typically ranging from 1.4 to 3.8 nm, excellent stability in water, and blue photoluminescence (with excitation/emission peaks located at 315/412 nm and a quantum yield of 3.7%). The fluorescence of the QDs is statically quenched by hypochlorite, and the Stern-Volmer plot is linear. Hypochlorite can be detected in the 5–500 μM concentration range with a 0.5 μM detection limit. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of hypochlorite in spiked samples of tap water, lake water, and commercial disinfectants. Schematic of a method for the fluorometric determination of hypochlorite using MoS 2 quantum dots as a fluorescent probe.
