Although significant progress in developing biodegradable magnesium alloy materials in cardiovascular stents has been achieved recently, they still face challenges such as rapid in vivo corrosion degradation, inferior blood compatibility, and limited re-endothelialization after the implantation. Hydrogel coating that can catalyze the liberation of gas signal molecules offers a good solution to alleviate the corrosion rate and enhance the biocompatibility of magnesium and its alloys. In this study, based on alkaline heat treatment and construction of polydopamine coating on the surface of magnesium alloy, sodium alginate/carboxymethyl chitosan (SA/CMCS) gel was simultaneously covalently grafted onto the surface to build a natural polymer hydrogel coating, and selenocystamine (SeCA) and CO release molecules (CORM-401) were respectively immobilized on the surface of the hydrogel coating to ameliorate the anticoagulant performance and accelerate endothelial cells (ECs) growth by catalyzing the release of endogenous gas signal molecules (NO or CO). The findings verified that the as-prepared hydrogel coating can catalyze the liberation of CO or NO and significantly improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy. At the same time, owing to the excellent hydrophilicity of the hydrogel coating, the good anticoagulant property of sodium alginate, and the ability of CMCS to promote the ECs growth, the modified magnesium alloy could significantly improve the albumin adsorption while preventing the adsorption of fibrinogen, hence significantly augmenting the anticoagulant properties and promoting the ECs growth. Under the catalytic release of NO or CO, the released gas molecules further enhanced hemocompatibility and promoted endothelial cell (EC) growth and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and NO of ECs. Therefore, the bioactive coatings that can catalyze the release of NO or CO have potential applications in constructing surface bioactive coatings for magnesium alloy materials used for intravascular stents.

The reduction of NO by CO was proposed to be applied for regeneration gas to remove NOx from industrial flue gas with activated carbon purification technology. To improve the activity and sulfur resistance for the reduction of NO by CO in regeneration gas, Cu and Fe modifications on activated carbon were investigated. And various samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, TPD, H2-TPR, in situ DRIFTS and DFT calculations to explain the reaction mechanism and poisoning mechanism. The synergistic effects of oxygen-containing functional groups and metal sites show that –COOH acts as an anchor site for metals and that C–O–C acts as a protective site for Fe3+ under a SO2 atmosphere. Cu2+ sites have a high activity at low temperatures due to the large amount of adsorbed NO and the intermediate NOx− participating in the reaction with the NOx− pathway. Fe3+ sites have a high activity at high temperatures due to the high N–O dissociation activity with the *N pathway and –NCO pathway. DFT calculations proved that the binding Cu2+ and Fe3+ sites have higher activity than free Cu2+ and Fe3+ sites. A high content of SO2 exhibits various poisoning effects, mainly including the sulfation of metal sites, deposition of S, and consumption of CO. AC-Fe-H exhibits excellent resistance and stability against SO2 and H2O due to less S deposition caused by consumption through the S–CO reaction, slight sulfation caused by the protective effect of Fe2+ and C–O–C on Fe3+ sites and better hydrophobicity.

The storage quality of fresh-cut peach fruit is compromised by weight loss and chromatic aberration. In this experiment, taurine at 30 mg L−1was applied to fresh-cut peaches to evaluate its effect on storage quality. Changes in weight loss, chromatic aberration, antioxidant system, endogenous nitric oxide (NO) metabolism, endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) metabolism, and phenylpropanoid metabolism were studied. The results indicated that 30 mg L−1taurine effectively improved the ability to scavenge ROS, including •OH, O2•−, MDA, and H2O2, by inhibiting the decrease in the activities of SOD and CAT, enhancing POD activity, reducing PPO activity, and maintaining the AsA-GSH cycle. Moreover, taurine treatment increased the activities of 4CL and PAL and retarded the decrease in the activities of SKDH and C4H, thereby improving the accumulation of total phenols, flavonoids, and lignin. These findings showed that taurine mitigated oxidative damage in fresh-cut peaches by enhancing the antioxidant defense system. Exogenous taurine consistently enhanced NOS-like activity while decreasing NR activity in the early storage phase, and elevated the contents of L-Arginine, nitrite, and endogenous NO. Taurine treatment up-regulated the activities of SAT, L-CD, and OAS-TL, thus promoting endogenous H2S content in fresh-cut peaches. Taurine alleviated weight loss and chromatic aberration in fresh-cut peaches during storage by enhancing the antioxidant system and modulating NO, H2S and phenylpropanoid metabolism.

Despite the success of various intelligent materials in meeting the multiple needs of diabetic ulcer wounds (DUW) healing, it is often challenging to consider the entire healing process, from early antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects to late matrix remodeling and angiogenesis characteristics, by releasing multiple active ingredients in stages and on demand. Herein, we designed a versatile bilayer (GCM/Clean-GDA/Cure) hydrogel dressing with light-controlled, spatiotemporal sequential release of MXene nanosheets (MX NSs)/nitric oxide (NO) gas for the healing of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilm-infected DUWs. Initially, the lower GCM layer comprised carboxymethyl chitosan-gelatin and cerium oxide (CeO 2 )-decorated MX NSs (CO-MX), and the upper GDA layer consisted of dopamine-modified methacrylated gelatin (GelMA-DA) with L-arginine (L-Arg) as a precursor. Under NIR irradiation, the GCM hydrogel releases photothermal-induced CO-MX NSs as self-regenerating antioxidants, exhibiting 98.25 % inhibition against MRSA and 96.37 % inhibition against Pneumonia aeruginosa. The abundant oxygen vacancies and reversible Ce(III)/Ce(IV) redox pairs of the released Ce species from CO-MX NSs could attenuate inflammation and promote early macrophage polarization. The light-assisted gel–sol thermal transition of the lower GCM layer further exposes the upper GDA layer, providing a conducive microenvironment for angiogenesis and tissue remodeling. L-Arg in the GDA layer could enable light-controlled in situ release of NO gas activated by elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS), reaching 7.71 μM within 10 min of exposure to NIR light. Thus, the NIR-assisted bilayer treatment group achieved a 97.74 % wound closure rate. Finally, the transcriptomic analysis validated the activation of regenerative pathways and suppression of excessive inflammatory and metabolic stress signals. Together, the photo-controlled sequential release of MX NSs and NO gas from the bilayer could expand the application of light-responsive nanomaterials, providing an innovative therapeutic modality for in situ treatment of diabetic wounds infected by highly drug-resistant MRSA biofilms.

The bifunctional photocatalyst CDs@NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti), carbon nanodots (CDs) encapsulated in NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti), was constructed in situ by a simple and convenient low-temperature calcination approach, which exhibited great capacity in NO removal (at air level) and H 2 evolution simultaneously under visible-light irradiation. The NO removal rate of CDs@NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) (10 mM) reached 53%, which was 28.4% higher than pristine NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti). Moreover, the H 2 production rate was 5820.95 μmol g −1 , which was 5.34 times higher than that of original NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti). The corresponding optical and electrical performances of CDs@NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) characterized by UV–Vis, UCPL, ESR, and in situ DRIFTS , etc. indicated that the encapsulated CDs uniformly dispersed in the pores of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) could improve the visible light utilization via the up-conversion effect and photosensitization, and serve as an electron-receiver to significantly prolong the lifetime of the photogenerated charge carriers, thus enhancing the photocatalytic performance. The results revealed that fabricating CDs with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) could be an available strategy for us to boost the photocatalytic NO elimination and H 2 evolution activity simultaneously.

SSZ-13 zeolite was synthesized from fly ash using a combined alkali fusion hydrothermal method. The optimal synthesis parameters are as follows: NaOH/FA=1.4, SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 =50, H 2 O/SiO 2 =1800, TMAda-OH/Al 2 O 3 =7, the amount of SSZ-13-seed=10%, and crystallization time and temperature were 160 °C and 40 h. Based on this, a series of fly ash-based Fe-SSZ-13 catalysts were prepared using three different methods and tested in catalytic oxidation with H 2 O 2 for NO removal. The experiment results showed that the NO removal efficiency catalyzed by Fe-SSZ-13-SSIE, Fe-SSZ-13-LIE and Fe-SSZ-13-IM were 78%, 87% and 84%, respectively. ESR was used to detect hydroxyl radicals, UV-vis, XPS and H 2 -TPR were applied to test the composition, state and distribution of iron species, while NH 3 -TPD and Py-FTIR were performed to analyze the intensity and type of acidic sites, and finally to determine the relationship between catalyst structure, active species and catalytic performance in combination with NO removal experiments. The catalytic oxidation mechanism analysis revealed that the excellent catalytic performance can be attributed to the dual function of strong Brønsted acidity on the surface and isolated Fe 3+ with high dispersion, which can rapidly decompose H 2 O 2 into ·OH and efficiently achieve NO oxidation. In conclusion, the preparation of fly ash catalysts has great potential for achieving the dual function of waste utilization and pollutant removal.

In this study, a new red sorghum variety (Ji Liang No. 1) was investigated for its triacylglycerol (TAG) and fatty acid profiles, carotenoid and tocopherol compositions, total phenolic, total flavonoid and phenolic acid contents, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. A total of 17 TAGs were identified in the red sorghum oil. Linoleic and oleic acids were the primary fatty acids, contributing more than 80% of the total fatty acids. β-Carotene was the primary carotenoid at a level of 26.14 μg/g. α-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols were at levels of 0.19, 4.08, and 0.10 μg/g, respectively. Moreover, acetone–water (60:40, v/v) extract of the red sorghum exhibited the greatest total phenolic content of 2.77 mg GAE/g and total flavonoid content of 5.44 mg RE/g. The extract had scavenging capacities against DPPH, ABTS + , and peroxyl radicals and suppressed LPS stimulated IL-1β, IL-6, and COX-2 mRNA expressions in a dose-dependent manner. Ferulic, p -coumaric, isoferulic, and p -hydroxybenzoic acids were found in the red sorghum, with ferulic acid as the predominant phenolic acid and mostly in an insoluble bound form. These data indicated a potential utilization of the red sorghum in health-promoting functional food or supplemental products.

In this paper, a series of Nb modified Cu-Ce-Ti mixed oxides (Nb y CCT) were synthesized using wetness impregnation method for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with ammonia (NH 3 -SCR). The activity tests indicated that Nb y CCT catalysts had shown superior SCR performances. Among which, Nb 0.05 CCT catalyst exhibited a NO conversion of more than 90% within a broad operation temperature window (180–360 °C) under the GHSV of 40,000 h −1 . After that, corresponding characterizations were performed to correlate the physical structures and surface properties to catalytic performances. These results revealed that the strong interactions among the active phases induced by Nb addition could not only enhance the redox property of the catalysts but also inhibit the over-oxidation of NH 3 , which would be beneficial to SCR performance within a wide temperature range and good reaction selectivity. Furthermore, DRIFTS results suggested that the doping of Nb could promote the formation of NO 2 , thereby enhancing the “fast” SCR reaction process (Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction pathway). Moreover, the Nb 0.05 CCT catalyst showed a better sulfur tolerance compared to Nb free catalyst that over 85% NO conversion could be retained after 12 h SCR reaction in the presence of SO 2 and H 2 O.

Citric acid method was employed to prepare a series of Nb-promoted Fe x -Nb 0 . 5- x -Ce 0.5 ( x = 0.45, 0.4, 0.35) oxides for selective catalytic reduction with NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR) of NO process. The structure, redox ability and reactivity of NH 3 and absorbed NO species on the catalysts were explored by using various characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature program reduction with H 2 (H 2 -TPR), temperature program desorption of NH 3 (NH 3 -TPD), temperature program desorption of NO (NO-TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS). It was found that the Nb promoted Fe x -Nb 0 . 5- x -Ce 0.5 ( x = 0.45, 0.4, 0.35) oxides catalysts showed outstanding NH 3 -SCR of NO activity, excellent N 2 selectivity and remarkable SO 2 /H 2 O resistance, meanwhile, Fe 0.4 -Nb 0.1 -Ce 0.5 exhibited above 90% NO conversion in the range of 180–400 °C, together with near 100% N 2 selectivity. The characterization results point out that the excellent catalytic performance of Fe 0.4 -Nb 0.1 -Ce 0.5 can be ascribed to the strong interaction among Nb, Fe and Ce oxides. The strong interaction not only increases the BET surface area and redox ability of the catalyst, but also significantly improves the acid amount leading to the enhancement of the adsorption and activation of NH 3 , which is advantage of the reactivity of adsorbed nitrate together with the adsorbed NH 3 species.

Different transition metals were used to modify V 2 O 5 -based catalysts (M-V, M = Cu, Fe, Mn, Co) on TiO 2 via impregnation, for the selective reduction of NO with NH 3 . The introduced metals induced high dispersion in the vanadium species and the formation of vanadates on the TiO 2 support, and increased the amount of surface acid sites and the strength of these acids. The strong acid sites might be responsible for the high N 2 selectivity at higher temperatures. Among these catalysts, Cu-V/TiO 2 showed the highest activity and N 2 selectivity at 225–375 °C. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, NH 3 -temperature-programmed desorption, and in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy suggested that the improved performance was probably due to more active surface oxygen species and increased strong surface acid sites. The outstanding activity, stability, and SO 2 /H 2 O durability of Cu-V/TiO 2 make it a candidate to be a NO x removal catalyst for stationary flue gas.

Honeycomb cordierite-based Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 (Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C) and Fe–Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 (Fe–Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C) catalysts were prepared by an impregnation method and investigated in low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH 3 at 100 °C. The Fe–Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C catalyst exhibited not only higher catalytic activity, but also much better SO 2 and H 2 O resistance in the presence of 30 ppm SO 2 and/or 5 vol% H 2 O than Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C. After doping Fe, the NO conversion of Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C catalyst displayed an increasing trend from 79 to 84% in the absence of SO 2 and H 2 O at 100 °C under a gas hour space velocity of 1667 h −1 . The results of characterization indicated that addition of Fe was advantageous to increase BET surface area, pore volume and inhibit loss of surface Mn and Ce species. Additionally, it was helpful for generating higher concentration of Mn 4+ , more chemisorbed oxygen and more uniform dispersion of amorphous Mn and Ce in the surface of catalyst, which were beneficial to interact with reactants. Furthermore, in contrast to Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C, the SCR activity of Fe–Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C catalyst in the presence of H 2 O, SO 2 and H 2 O and SO 2 were 79, 75 and 64%, with the increase of 14, 18 and 19%, respectively. It is indicated that the addition of Fe could inhibit sulfate formation and thus enhance SO 2 resistance. XPS results reveal that the doping of Fe into the ceria lattice led to some Ce 4+ transferred into Ce 3+ in order to maintain the electrical neutrality, thereby facilitating the reduction of Ce 4+ → Ce 3+ and the formation of oxygen vacancies. NH 3 temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) results imply that the doping of Fe onto Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C can remarkably improve the distribution and concentration of acid sites. All the above factors contributed to the improvement of overall NH 3 SCR performance of the Fe–Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C catalyst compared with that of the Mn–Ce/Al 2 O 3 –C catalyst.

Supported MnFeOx catalysts have been prepared using Al2O3 as the substrate and were investigated for NH3-SCR. The 20% MnFe/Al2O3 catalyst removed over 80% of NOx with an N2 selectivity exceeding 90% at temperatures between 80 and 340 °C. The results from the various characterization studies indicated that the increased activity of MnFe/Al2O3 catalysts can be primarily linked to the increased chemisorbed oxygen species and Fe3+ concentrations, greater reducibility, and higher adsorption capacity for NH3. These characteristics are the outcome of the strong interaction, larger specific surface, and abundant acidic sites. Additionally, in situ DRIFTS analysis of the reaction mechanism revealed that the E–R and L–H mechanisms were responsible for the NH3-SCR reaction over the 20% MnFe/Al2O3 catalyst.
