Achieving excitation-free, long-range target surveillance under complete darkness remains a critical challenge for night-vision technology. Here, a breakthrough is reported in near-infrared (NIR) persistent luminescence (PersL) materials designed specifically for this frontier. Through strategic bandgap engineering via Sm 3 ⁺ co-doping and In 3 ⁺ solid-solution incorporation in the novel Cr 3 ⁺-doped Mg 3 Ga 1.9 In 0.1 SnO 8 spinel phosphor, the afterglow intensity and duration are dramatically enhanced. The optimized material exhibits an ultra-long NIR PersL exceeding 168 h. Crucially, PDMS films embedded with this phosphor enabled real-time, persistent target detection at an unprecedented distance of 47.5 m in complete darkness, entirely without any external excitation source. This record-setting long-range performance demonstrates the material's potential as an enabling technology for passive, long-range nighttime surveillance systems. Comprehensive spectroscopic studies elucidate the underlying PersL mechanism. This work establishes a new pathway for designing ultra-long NIR PersL materials and paves the way for advanced applications in remote night-vision technologies.

Wearable flexible magnetoelastic sensor for non-invasive real-time uric acid detection in sweat. • Dual-sided functional film eliminates crosstalk between conductive and biorecognition layers. • Magnetic field amplification enables LOD = 1.2 μM and linear range 10–200 μM. • Custom microfluidic patch enables non-skin-contact sensing with efficient sweat management. • Portable detector (5 × 5 cm) shows high accuracy and valid in vivo real-time monitoring. Wearable non-invasive sensors enable continuous detection of uric acid in sweat, thereby facilitating the diagnosis of diseases related to renal and hepatic disorders. Nevertheless, the low uric acid content in human sweat and limitations of current sweat sampling strategies pose major challenges to the development of high-efficiency wearable uric acid sensors. Herein, we report a wearable flexible magnetoelastic (ME) sensor structurally integrated with a functional thin film based on PDMS/Chitosan/FeSiB/CNTs for monitoring uric acid in sweat. The integrated microfluidic patch designed in this work not only achieves sweat collection and directional drainage but also serves as a stable carrier to secure the thin film and magnet. Benefiting from the ME response of FeSiB magnetic particles incorporated inside the thin film, the sensing signal can be significantly amplified by an external magnetic field, which substantially enhances the detection sensitivity toward trace uric acid in sweat. Specifically, one side of the film is designed as a conductive layer, and the other side acts as a biomolecule-modified layer, ensuring that the two functional layers operate independently without mutual interference. Benefiting from this optimized structure, the proposed sensor was employed for testing in simulated sweat and in vivo human trials. Experimental results demonstrate the favorable performance of the sensor for real-time uric acid monitoring in sweat, with a detection limit of 1.2 μM and a wide linear detection range of 20–80 μM, and in the standard uric acid sample, the sensor showed a wider linear range of 10–200 μM, covering the physiological concentration range of uric acid in human sweat. Spiking tests in simulated sweat yielded recoveries from 94.1% to 114.3%, validating its high accuracy. The self-developed portable resistance measurement unit (5 × 5 cm) exhibited a mean relative error of only 0.34% compared with standard instruments, enabling reliable on-site measurement. In vivo tests on healthy volunteers further revealed distinct diurnal variations in sweat uric acid levels, confirming the sensor's great potential for non-invasive and real-time health management. The biosensor presents a promising avenue for uric acid monitoring using adaptable and user-friendly technologies. Download: Download high-res image (359KB) Download: Download full-size image

A surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on a polyvinyl alcohol-graphene oxide (PVA-GO) composite film and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film was proposed for simultaneous measurement of relative humidity (RH) and temperature. The SPR effect was excited by an MMF-SMF-MMF cascaded structure coated with Ag film, and one channel was excited by coating PVA-GO film on its surface for RH sensing, while the other channel was excited by coating PDMS film is used for temperature measurement. The experimental results show that the RH sensitivity of the sensor is 0.507 nm/% RH, and the temperature sensitivity is −3.27 nm/°C. The proposed sensor offers the advantages of compact structure, low cost, and stability and is suitable for fields that require simultaneous measurement of temperature and RH, such as agricultural storage, industrial production, and weather forecasting.

A biomimetic, fluorine-free, three-layer aqueous coating for cotton─composed of an Fe2+/Cu2+-catalyzed polydopamine (PDA) primer, a chitosan–SiO2 (CS) aerogel midlayer, and a thin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) overcoat─was developed to impart durable superhydrophobicity, rapid photothermal self-healing, antibacterial activity, and efficient oil–water separation. Treated cotton exhibited a static water contact angle (WCA) of 170° and retained a WCA of >155° after 2500 Martindale abrasion cycles or 30 ISO 105-C06 wash cycles; the WCA was restored to ≥160° after ambient storage or within 20 min under natural sunlight as surface temperatures approached ≈50 °C. PDA-mediated Cu2+ chelation (5 mM) produced >99% inhibition of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus; gravity-driven oil–water separation efficiencies exceeded 98% with >96% retention after 12 cycles. Preliminary scalability and environmental impact analyses, including material inventories and PDMS release estimates, support the potential for industrial translation. This fluorine-free, beetle-exoskeleton-inspired strategy offers a scalable route to multifunctional, sustainable textile finishing and environmental remediation.

Non-invasive wearable sweat glucose sensors are expected to be highly desirable for personalized diabetes management. Therefore, developing facile, convenient, and scalable manufacturing method of such wearable sensors is urgently needed. Herein, we report a simple and low-cost stamping-vacuum filtration dry transfer (SVFDT) method for construction of a wearable sweat glucose electrochemical sensor. In this patch, a three-electrode array template was made by using a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) stamp, followed by the preparation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) (MP) film electrode using the vacuum-filtration dry transfer method. In addition, for further enhancing the conductivity of the electrode, another similar stamp with a raised surface dipping carbon nanotubes (CNTs) conductive coating was stamped on the surface of the MP electrode to obtain CNTs/MWCNTs/PDMS (CMP) electrode. CMP electrode was modified with the enzyme-like Ni-Co metal-organic framework (MOF) material which showed good electro-catalytic activity and achieved high sensitivity for glucose detection with a low detection limit of 6.78 μM and a wide linear range of 20 μM - 1.1 mM. More importantly, the Ni-Co MOF modified CMP (NCMP) electrode also displayed high stability under stretching and bending conditions. Finally, the sweat absorbent cloth was combined with the NCMP film electrode to form a wearable flexible electrochemical sensor patch, which could adhere to the skin to enrich sweat and realize real-time detection of sweat glucose with high accuracy. This SVFDT method can also be applied to the fabrication of other electronic devices.

In this study, as an efficient technology membrane absorption was applied with newly developed polyetheretherketone (PEEK) hollow fiber membrane (HFM) to remove CO 2 from flue gas. To alleviate membrane wetting issue, 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (FAS) was integrated into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and then crosslinked FAS-PDMS was coated on porous PEEK membranes to prepare composite membranes. Surface characterization verified that PDMS layer containing fluoroalkylsilane had been successfully formed on membrane surface. As mass ratio of FAS to PDMS in coating solution raised, an interesting honeycomb-like structure was observed dispersing on composite membrane surface. Meanwhile, water contact angle was improved from 90.0° to 133.5° indicating enhanced membrane hydrophobicity. The effects of gas and liquid flow velocities on CO 2 absorption performance of FAS-PDMS/PEEK HFM were systematically studied. The highest CO 2 removal efficiency of 99.6% was achieved when gas and liquid velocity were 0.027 and 0.019 m s −1 . When gas velocity raised to 0.110 m s −1 , the maximum absorption flux of 1.22 × 10 -4 mol m −2 s −1 and overall mass-transfer coefficient of 2.69 × 10 −5 m s −1 could be obtained. Compared with the original membrane, the CO 2 absorption flux of FAS-PDMS-0.6 HFM was increased by 50.9%, and the performance had no degradation in 36 h test. This study provides a novel strategy to alleviate the membrane wetting problem during CO 2 membrane absorption process.

This work involves the preparation and characterization of poly(styrene-b-isoprene-b-styrene)-poly(dimethylsiloxane- co -methylhydrosiloxane) (SIS-c-PDMS-co-PMHS) crosslinked membranes towards CH 4 /N 2 separation. SIS-c-PDMS-co-PMHS was synthesized via a simple hydrosilylation reaction with various PDMS-co-PMHS contents. The structure of crosslinked membranes was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy , indicating the degree of hydrosilylation reaction. The morphology of sample membranes was observed in detail by means of Scanning Electron Microscope analysis . Thermodynamic stability and the crosslinked behavior of crosslinked membranes were explored by thermogravimetric analysis and Soxhlet extraction experiments. Furthermore, single gas (CH 4 , N 2 ) permeability was measured using the time-lag method. The CH 4 permeability of crosslinked membranes with 70 wt% PDMS-co-PMHS could reach 503 Barrer at 25 °C and 1 bar, which is significantly greater than that of SIS (25.9 Barrer), while the CH 4 /N 2 ideal selectivity hardly changed. Notably, CH 4 permeability further improved by 77.6% (893.4 Barrer) as the temperature increased to 55 °C. For the CH 4 /N 2 (50/50 vol%) mixed gas, the SIS-c-PDMS-co-PMHS-70 sample membrane exhibited ideal gas separation performance relative to that of the pure SIS membrane (CH 4 : 447.4 vs. 24.2 Barrer,N 2 : 188.1 vs. 9.46 Barrer).

Three-phase composite films CCTO@MWCNT/PDMS with enhanced dielectric constant (ε) and low dielectric loss are prepared by embedding covalently bonded calcium copper titanate (CaCu3Ti4O12, CCTO) with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite nanoparticles (CCTO@MWCNT), forming a chain-ball structure, into the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. To impede the natural stacking of MWCNTs, CCTO particles are functionalized first with a silane coupling agent containing amino groups, and then react with carboxyl-functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNT-COOH) to achieve the strong linkage between CCTO and MWCNTs, confirmed by the FTIR spectrum and SEM images, etc. The chain-ball CCTO@MWCNT nanoparticles have effectively improved the dielectric permittivity of PDMS. The dielectric constant of the CCTO@MWCNT/PDMS composite film, agreeing well with the percolation theory, is up to 2133 at 1 kHz, higher than that of pure PDMS by a factor of 700, when the volume fraction of MWCNTs approaches the percolative threshold. Meanwhile, the dielectric loss is only 0.19. For comparison, CCTO/PDMS and MWCNT/PDMS films are prepared and investigated as well. The Yamada model can effectively predict the dielectric constant of CCTO/PDMS composite films. The dielectric constants of CCTO/PDMS and MWCNT/PDMS films are 1/180 and 1/6, respectively, in comparison with that of CCTO@MWCNT/PDMS. The tensile strength of CCTO@MWCNT/PDMS approaches 1.12 MPa, 3 times higher than that of pure PDMS.

Graphical A multifunctional coating composed of PTFE, PDMS, and nano silica was successfully prepared via deposition coating and heating treatment in this study, which possessed excellent anti-corrosion, anti-scaling, anti-fouling, anti-icing, and self-cleaning properties. This superhydrophobic coating can be loaded onto various facilities and equipment as top finish, protecting the substrates from water containing contaminants. This coating may have broad applications in the field of metal substrate protection. PTFE-based superhydrophobic coatings have received increasing research and the fabricated coatings exhibited excellent anti-corrosion, anti-scaling, anti-fouling, and anti-icing properties. In order to further enhance the hydrophobicity of PTFE coating, a PTFE-based coating consisted of nano-silica and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was fabricated by deposition coating and annealing treatment. The water contact angle and sliding angle of the coating achieved 160.65° and 3.02°, respectively, demonstrating it possessed superhydrophobic property. Due to its excellent surface feature, the coating exhibited resistance to milk, coffee, and mud water, and could be easily cleaned by water flow. Besides, the water droplet on the coating had a longer freezing time and the ice droplet could be easily removed from the coating. Ascribed to the abundant nonpolar groups and the air cushion formed under water, the prepared coating had outstanding anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties. The electrochemical impedance of the steel plate with the coating (above 9000 Ω·cm 2 ) increased by two orders of magnitude compared with the non-coating one (78.2 Ω·cm 2 ), and the anti-scaling rates of the coating towards BaSO 4 and SrSO 4 were all above 80%. It is promising that the coating will be a competitive candidate in many application fields.

Two-dimensional (2D) nanocomposite coatings and superhydrophobic coatings are applied to retarding corrosion of Magnesium (Mg) and its alloys. However, stability of the delicate micro/nanostructure and corrosion durability are still intractable issues. In this work, a bi-layer superhydrophobic coating with excellent corrosion resistance has been successfully constructed on Mg alloy via a facile spray/spin assisted self-assembly technique. The polyurethane (PU) coating containing well-dispersed hydroxylated hexagonal boron nitride (OH-BN) nanoparticles acts as the barrier layer and “adhesive”, while the superhydrophobic modified h-BN (f-BN) nanoparticles serve as the water-repellent surface. In addition, the modifying agents containing dynamic disulfide bonds provide covalent bonding effect to construct a stable superhydrophobic surface. Hence, the obtained coating presents extreme non-wettability with an impressive static water contact angle (WCA) of 155° as well as possesses outstanding anti-water adhesion, anti-fouling and self-cleaning performance. Meanwhile, the designed coating shows excellent corrosion durability, which the value of |Z| f = 0.01 Hz retains at 9.5 × 10 9 Ω cm 2 , higher than PU coating of two orders of magnitude. The developed coating shows promising potentials as a durable protective material for Mg alloy and other metals and alloys, shedding new lights on developing high-performance corrosion resistance technologies.

Marine biofouling constitutes a pervasive biological threat that seriously impedes the sustainable development of the marine economy. Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) were typically employed as marine coatings to mitigate biofouling. However, SLIPS are often hindered by rapid lubricant leaching, short service life, and a simple antifouling strategy, thereby limiting their applicability in marine environments. To circumvent the limitations of conventional SLIPS, synergistic antifouling strategies were frequently adopted. In this study, we developed a copper/graphene nanofluid-infused porous surface (Cu/G@uPDMS-oil) utilizing the breath figure method. The nanofluid can be firmly locked into the microstructure within polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to form a stable lubricating layer and provide a sustained release of silicone oil due to dynamic hydrogen bonding. In addition, when silicone oil is released from the coating surface, the intrinsic copper (Cu) and graphene (G) nanoparticles come into substantial contact with the surrounding solution, leading to galvanic corrosion. Galvanic corrosion produces synergistic antifouling through a dual mechanism of induced oxidative stress and copper ion (Cu2+) release. Consequently, the resulting coating exhibits high stability, continuous silicone oil leaching, and self-replenishing properties. Due to the labyrinth effect of graphene, the release rate of Cu2+ is significantly diminished to 6.2 μg·cm–2·day–1. Furthermore, this nanofluid-based smooth surface demonstrates superior antibacterial, anti-algal, and anti-conch properties. The developed Cu/G@uPDMS-oil coating holds great potential for significantly mitigating marine biofouling.

Combining light-stimulated actuators with large deformation and high sensitivity with superhydrophobic surfaces has great applications in emerging fields, such as smart bionics, microfluidic devices, and droplet manipulation. Here, using self-assembly and spray methods, light-responsive superhydrophobic films driven by UV light were prepared. Due to the low surface energy of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and micronanostructures of ZnO, the film surface exhibited excellent superhydrophobicity. With the incorporation of light-responsive azobenzene groups, the film achieved a transition of azobenzene molecules from linear trans structures to bent cis structures under UV light irradiation. This change endowed the film with excellent driving properties, allowing the film to achieve bending angles of up to 90° under UV light irradiation with a power density of 70 mW/cm2. Additionally, the prepared light-responsive superhydrophobic films remained stable in bending tests, high temperatures, UV irradiation, and various organic solvent immersion tests. Based on the outstanding superhydrophobic and light-driven properties, light-responsive superhydrophobic films can be designed for applications in the fields of biomimetics and droplet manipulation.
