TiO2 is an abundant and environmentally benign material, but has a wide band gap, which greatly confines its applications in photocatalysis. Doping and modifying the material composition are both generally used to change and control the photocatalytic activity of semiconductors. Herein, we describe a method and resulting activity of depositing Ce-/S-codoped TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) on water-soluble sulfonated graphene (SGE) sheets, which guarantees a direct contact and satisfactory electron transfer between the semiconductor and graphene. The Ce/S–TiO2 NPs are homogeneously fixed on the surface of SGE sheets with an average particle size of ∼7 nm. The resulting composite showed noticeable activity in photodegrading methyl orange (κ = 0.425 h−1). This improved performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects of Ce- and S-codoping toward TiO2 and the composite action between TiO2 NPs and SGE. This type of novel composite is expected to stimulate the development of doped and graphene-involved photocatalysts for addressing environmental problems.

This work investigates the influence of synthetic C-S-H/polycarboxylate(PCE) nanocomposites (CPNs) on the hydration and properties of hydrated cement pastes. HPEG-PCE copolymers exhibiting side chain length of 45 ethylene oxide (EO) units was utilized to synthesize CPNs by precipitating C-S-H from Na 2 SiO 3 and Ca(NO 3 ) 2 in the PCE solution. A Box-Behnken Design (BBD) for the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was employed to statistically optimize the sizes of the resultant. The prepared CPNs were characterized by particle size distribution (PSD), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and thermo gravimetric/derivative thermo gravimetric (TG/DTG) analyses. The influence of CPNs on the hydration properties of cement were assessed and discussed in terms of hydration kinetics, mechanical properties, phase composition and pore structure analysis. The experimental results showed that the optimum synthetic parameters, an experimental temperature of 30.1 °C, reactant flow velocity of 0.63 ml/min and initial volume of PCE solution of 28.5 ml, produced CPNs with a minimum size of 329.12 nm. It was demonstrated that PCE polymers were either grafted on the surface or partially intercalated in the interlayer regions of C-S-H, and their introduction also increased the distance between C-S-H interlayers. Cement hydration was significantly promoted as a result of an increased heat release, even at low CPNs content. The early compressive strength of the mortar significantly improved with increasing CPNs content due to the accelerated cement hydration of the CPNs: the 0.6 wt.% CPNs content improved the compressive strength by 18.97%. Moreover, the inclusion of CPNs is advantageous for pore modification: the total porosity decreased by 25.77% after 3 days. Finally, phase composition analysis confirmed that no new crystalline phase was produced upon CPNs addition.

A hollow zeolite encapsulated Rh catalyst Rh@H-S-1 with an “eggshell” structure was prepared using the method of organic alkali treatment and recrystallization. Compared with catalysts with directly encapsulated Rh@S-1 and surface impregnated Rh/S-1, this catalyst exhibited both superior activity and a higher TOF value in hydroformylation of 1-hexene due to the high dispersion of Rh and high diffusion. The Rh element did not need to be reduced in the preparation, and it was in situ reduced by the syngas. The content of lower valence Rh δ+ gradually increased with the reaction procedure and played as an active center. The low oxidized state Rh + or Rh δ+ in the form of Rh(CO) 2 are proposed as active sites in hydroformylation, which were generated under the synergistic effect between CO and H 2 . Importantly, the hollow encapsulated catalyst effectively decreased Rh leaching to 0.1 ppm and showed better stability compared with the impregnated Rh/S-1 catalyst.

The commercialization of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries faces several challenges, including poor conductivity, unexpected volume expansion, and continuous sulfur loss from the cathode due to redox shuttling. In this study, we introduce a novel polymer via a simple cross-linking between poly(ether-thioureas) (PETU) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)- poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as a bifunctional binder for Li-S batteries (devotes as “PPTU”). Compared to polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), as-prepared PPTU exhibits significantly higher electrical conductivity, facilitating electrochemical reactions. Additionally, PPTU demonstrates effective adsorption of lithium polysulfides, leading to improved cycling stability by suppressing the shuttling effect. We investigate this behavior by monitoring morphological changes at the cell interface using synchrotron X-ray tomography. Cells with PPTU binders exhibit remarkable rate performance, desired reversibility, and excellent cycling stability even under stringent bending and twisting conditions. Our work represents promising progress in functional polymer binder development for Li-S batteries.

Eucalyptol is one of the major insecticidal active ingredients in a variety of plant essential oils, and has good killing and avoidance effects on Tribolium castaneum . The presence of detoxifying enzymes glutathione S-transferase (GST) in T. castaneum makes it resistant to a variety of insecticides. However, whether GST is involved in regulating the sensitivity of eucalyptol by T. castaneum is not well understood. In our previous study, a glutathione S-transferase, TcGSTu1 , was significantly up-regulated in RNA sequencing data when T. castaneum was exposed to eucalyptol. Therefore, in this study, the role of TcGSTu1 in the regulating the sensitivity of T. castaneum to eucalyptol was studied. The enzyme activities of GST and the transcription levels of TcGSTu1 were significantly increased following stimulation with eucalyptol. When using RNA interference technology knockdown TcGSTu1 heightens the sensitivity of T. castaneum to eucalyptol, demonstrating a link between TcGSTu1 and eucalyptol detoxification metabolism. Furthermore, TcGSTu1 is expressed in all developmental stages of T. castaneum , with higher expression levels observed particularly in the late egg stage. There was significant expression of TcGSTu1 in various tissues of different organisms, including larval head, fat body, and adult head. This observation indicated a possible connection between high TcGSTu1 expression and eucalyptol detoxification. The present findings suggest that TcGSTu1 may be involved in regulating the sensitivity and response of T. castaneum to treatment with eucalyptol, providing new research insight into pest control.

This work illustrates the novelty of double S-scheme ZnS/ZnO/CdS ternary heterojunction photocatalyst with efficient photocatalytic activity. The sample with optimal CdS content, ZnS/ZnO/CdS-14% (ZZC14%), displayed the maximum H 2 evolution rate of 4.1 mmol·g ‒1 ·h ‒1 . The maximum photocatalytic performance was approximately 2 and 13 times higher than their corresponding counterparts, ZnS/CdS and ZnO/ZnS, respectively. A high AQE of 19.8% under 420 nm was obtained. Additionally, the slight changes in H 2 evolution activities and retentions of crystal structures after six successive cycles indicate the stability of the photocatalyst. In accordance with the theoretical calculations and experimental results, the remarkable enhancement in photocatalytic activity is attributed to fast electron transfer and separation as well as the intimate contact due to mutual interaction between S-scheme. This work highlights an innovative approach to constructing a dual S-scheme photocatalytic system with high separation and fast migration capabilities of photogenerated charge carriers for splitting water to produce hydrogen. Sulfhydryl-based polyimides were synthesized by the nucleophilic ring-opening reaction of thiolactone monomers (BPDA-T, ODPA-T, BTDA-T) with polyethylenimine (PEI), and they were coated on carbon nanotubes as host materials (BPTP@CNT, ODTP@CNT, and BTTP@CNT) of the sulfur cathode. BPTP@CNT/S, ODTP@CNT/S, and BTTP@CNT/S as cathode materials not only promote the covalent bonding of sulfur and polysulfide with sulfhydryl-based polyimides but also reduce the shuttle effect of soluble polysulfide in the redox process. Moreover, sulfhydryl-based polyimides can help improve the compatibility and interfacial contact between sulfur and conductive carbon while alleviating the volume expansion of the cathode. In addition, the conductive network of carbon nanotubes improves the electronic conductivity of the cathode materials. The BTTP@CNT/S cathode showed superior stability (the initial capacity was 902 mAh g–1 at 1C, and the capacity retention rate was 88.58% after 500 cycles) and the initial capacity could reach 718 mAh g–1 when the sulfur loading was 4.8 mg cm–2 (electrolyte/sulfur ratio: 10 μL mg–1), which fully proves the feasibility of the large-scale application of sulfhydryl-based polyimide materials.

In this study, imidazole-based poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) are introduced into acid-treated mesoporous silica by solid grinding and subsequent thermal polymerization methods. The purpose of treating mesoporous silica with hydrochloric acid is to increase the number of hydroxyl groups on the surface to fix more PILs. Because of the synergism of enhanced hydrophilicity and the mesoporous structure, the synthesized composite materials exhibited excellent capacities to adsorb and transport water vapor molecules and are suitable for low-humidity sensing applications. In the 7%–33% relative humidity (RH) range, the response of the as-prepared sensor reached 806% with a short response/recovery time of 8/13 s.

Carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as significant fluorescent nanomaterials due to their bright, stable fluorescence, good biocompatibility, facile synthesis, etc. They are widely used in various scientific and practical applications, particularly in combination with mesoporous, florescent, or magnetic nanomaterials to enhance their properties. Recent research has focused on employing CDs and their composites in drug analysis, drug loading, biological imaging, disease diagnosis, and temperature sensing, with a growing interest in their biological and medical applications. In this study, we synthesized blue-fluorescent S, N-co-doped CDs (cys-CDs) using hydrothermal synthesis with L-cysteine and sodium citrate. These resulting cys-CD particles were approximately 3.8 nm in size and exhibited stable fluorescence with a quantum yield of 0.66. By leveraging the fluorescence quenching of the cys-CDs, we developed a rapid and sensitive method for baicalein detection, achieving high sensitivity in the low micromolar range with a detection limit for baicalein of 33 nM. Our investigation revealed that the fluorescence-quenching mechanism involved static quenching and inner-filter effect components. Overall, cys-CDs proved to be effective for accurate quantitative baicalein detection in real-world samples.

Improving the efficiency of photogenerated carrier separation by designing heterojunction photocatalysts remains an important challenge. In this study, TiO 2 nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning, Bi/Bi 2 WO 6 /TiO 2 heterojunctions were constructed by hydrothermal method, and verified by characterization techniques. The heterojunction had good photodegradation activity to sulfamethoxazole (SMX) under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation (96.4 % within 60 min). The enhanced photodegradation activity of Bi/Bi 2 WO 6 /TiO 2 nanocomposites can be attributed to the synergistic effect of S-Scheme mechanism and Bi metal plasma action. In addition, Bi metals can generate a large number of electron-hole pairs under the action of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). In addition, the influence factors such as pH, SMX concentration and catalyst loading were studied. According to the detected intermediates, the photocatalytic degradation pathway of SMX was studied. The results of free radical capture experiment and ESR show that ·O 2 – and h + free radicals play an important role in the decomposition of SMX. The cyclic experiments show that Bi/Bi 2 WO 6 /TiO 2 nanocomposites have excellent stability and reuse characteristics. Finally, the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of SMX was described. This study provides a promising perspective for the preparation and development of S-Scheme heterojunction photocatalysts based on Bi 2 WO 6 .

Balancing conductivity, adhesion, and environmental stability remains a central challenge for next-generation conductive adhesives. Here, we report a facile metal-doping strategy for poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) adhesives, embedding Li+, Na+, or Ag+ salts within an ionic-liquid–polymer network to simultaneously reinforce interfacial binding and optimize ion transport. Systematic synthesis, multiscale characterization, and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that metal coordination sites concentrate at the polymer–substrate interface, yielding record adhesion strength up to 9.15 MPa on stainless steel for PIL-[Ag]. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy shows that Li+-doped PIL exhibits an ultralow charge-transfer resistance of 0.24 MΩ, 3 orders of magnitude lower than that of conventional PILs. These adhesives also offer tunable electromechanical properties, ∼88% optical transparency, and reliable low-temperature performance (−50 °C), making them ideal for flexible electronics, wearable sensors, and smart interface applications.

The rapid recombination of photoinduced charge carriers in semiconductors remains a significant challenge for their practical application in photocatalysis. This study presents the design of a step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction composed of carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and nickel-based metal–organic framework (Ni-MOF) to achieve enhanced charge separation. The establishment of an S-scheme charge transfer configuration at the interface of the Ni-MOF/g-C3N4heterostructure plays a pivotal role in enabling efficient charge carrier separation, and hence, high CO2photoreduction efficiency with a CO evolution rate of 1014.6 µmol g−1h−1and selectivity of 95% under simulated solar illumination. CO evolution represents an approximately 3.7-fold enhancement compared to pristine Ni-MOF. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations, supported by in situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experimental results, confirmed the establishment of a well-defined and strongly bonded interface, which improves the charge transfer and separation following the S-scheme mechanism. This study sheds light on MOF-based S-scheme heterojunctions as fruitful and selective alternatives for practical CO2photoreduction.
