The escalating global consumption of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) necessitates robust quality control, particularly against contaminants like highly toxic hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), which must be distinguished from its essential trivalent counterpart (Cr(III)). In this study, a novel nanozyme-based colorimetric assay is presented for chromium detection, utilizing a zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 encapsulated iron-quercetin nanocomposite (Fe-QueNPs@ZIF-67). The core-shell nanostructure was synthesized through a facile one-pot method at room temperature, in which the ZIF-67 shell served as a sacrificial template to prevent agglomeration of the core Fe-QueNPs, thus preserving their intrinsic catalytic activity. In a buffer medium, the ZIF-67 framework disassembled, uniform dispersing Fe-QueNPs uniformly and releasing Co 2+ ions. A bimetallic complex was formed through synergistic coordination of Co 2+ with Fe 3+ and quercetin ligands, significantly enhancing the peroxidase-like activity of nanozyme. This improved catalytic activity promoted the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) by H₂O₂. Importantly, a differential response to chromium species was observed: the catalytic reaction was inhibited by Cr(III), leading to signal reduction, whereas it was promoted by Cr(VI), resulting in signal amplification. This dual-response modulation enabled selective and sensitive quantification of Cr(III) (linear range: 10–1000 μM, LOD: 8.8 μM) and Cr(VI) (linear range: 0.5–70 μM, LOD: 0.36 μM). The method was successfully applied to TCM samples, achieving excellent recoveries (95–105%). This work provides a robust and sensitive platform for chromium speciation, offering a promising tool for quality control of herbal medicines and broader environmental monitoring.

The development of sustainable and efficient oil–water separation materials remains a challenge, particularly those combining robust stability with additional functionalities. In this work, a mussel-inspired strategy is reported for fabricating a multifunctional superhydrophobic paper via a facile dip-coating process. Cellulose fibers are first modified with a codeposited layer of polydopamine and the aminosilane KH550, which serves as a robust adhesive bridge, enhancing interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties─evidenced by a 51 and 32% increase in bursting and tensile strength, respectively. ZIF-67 nanoparticles are then grown in situ to construct a hierarchical micro/nanoscale roughness, followed by hydrophobic modification with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane. The resulting material exhibits exceptional superhydrophobicity, with a water contact angle of 156°, and demonstrates outstanding self-cleaning, antifouling, and chemical resistance properties. When employed for oil–water separation, it achieves high efficiency (>97%) for various oil–water mixtures and excellent recyclability, maintaining 96% efficiency over 50 cycles. Moreover, the incorporated ZIF-67 confers significant antibacterial activity, with inhibition rates of 70.22% against E. coli and 84.26% against S. aureus. This work presents a scalable and sustainable approach to designing high-performance, multifunctional cellulose-based materials for environmental remediation.

The performance of zinc–air batteries (ZABs) is often hindered by the limited activity and sluggish kinetics of bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this work, a high-performance bifunctional catalyst (FeCo-NC@rGO) was synthesized by anchoring ZIF-derived Co5.47N and CoFe nanoparticles (NPs) onto a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) aerogel, accompanied by in situ growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The M–N–C sites within the carbon matrix provide abundant ORR active centers, while Co5.47N and CoFe NPs impart excellent OER activity. As a result, FeCo-NC@rGO exhibits a high ORR half-wave potential of 0.85 V (vs. RHE) and a low OER overpotential of 400 mV at 10 mA cm−2, outperforming Pt/C (0.82 V) and RuO2 (508 mV), respectively. A liquid ZAB using this catalyst achieves an open-circuit voltage of 1.51 V, a power density of 114.6 mW cm−2, a specific capacity of 838.2 mAh g−1, and stable cycling for 250 h. The solid-state ZAB also demonstrates strong performance with excellent durability. This study provides an effective and scalable strategy for developing advanced bifunctional electrocatalysts for high-performance ZABs.

Developing a bifunctional photocatalytic system that combines efficient hydrogen evolution and hydrogen peroxide generation is of great significance for achieving solar-driven water splitting and green oxidant synthesis. In this study, a cobalt phosphide (CoP) cocatalyst with metalloid conductivity and porous structure was prepared by phosphorizing ZIF-67, and then composited with MnCdS solid solution via a one-pot hydrothermal method, successfully constructing a MnCdS@ZIF/P (MCS@Z/P) Schottky junction photocatalyst with intimate interfacial contact. The Mn doping strategy effectively regulated the band structure of CdS, not only narrowing the bandgap from 2.27 eV to 2.17 eV but also shifting the valence band maximum upward, thereby significantly enhancing visible light absorption and hole oxidation potential. After contacting with high-work-function CoP, a strong built-in electric field is formed at the interface, efficient driving directional transfer of photogenerated electrons from MnCdS to CoP. Under visible light irradiation, the optimized MCS@10Z/P catalyst exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity for both H 2 evolution (42.33 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 ) and H 2 O 2 production (1951.09 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 in air) in two independent reaction systems. Mechanistic studies reveal that the introduction of CoP not only serves as an efficient electron transport medium, but also shifts the oxygen reduction pathway from an inefficient single-electron process to a highly efficient two-electron dominant pathway by optimizing the *OOH intermediate adsorption free energy. The Gibbs free energy(ΔG H ) of the optimal sample is reduced to 0.13 eV, which significantly reduces the reaction energy barrier. This work provides new insights into the design of efficient bifunctional Schottky junction photocatalysts based on MOF-derived materials.

g -C 3 N 4 activated ZIF-67 impregnated composite hydrogel beads adsorbent was synthesized. • Brilliant green was used as modal adsorbate. • Effect of initial dye concentration, contact time, pH, and temperature were examined. • Composite hydrogel beads adsorbent show maximum adsorption capacity of 226 mg/g. • The composite hydrogel beads adsorbent followed Pseudo-first-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherm. This research work presents new composite hydrogel beads adsorbent designed to adsorb brilliant green (BG) dye from water. The Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) was modified with ZIF-67 and further integrated into sodium alginate to prepared composite hydrogel beads (CHB) adsorbent. The (CHB) adsorbent were comprehensively characterized using a suite of analytical techniques, such as FT-IR, TGA, SEM, EDX, XPS and BET analysis. To determine the optimal conditions for brilliant green dye removal, batch trials were carried out across a range of pH values (2−11), Dose (0.005–0.04 g), BG dye concentrations (25–300 mg/L), time (15–300 min), and temperatures (25–40 °C) studies respectively. The BET study showed that the surface area of (CHB) adsorbent was 0.500 m 2 /g. The (CHB) adsorbent demonstrated a maximum adsorption capacity of 226.27 mg/g. Kinetic analysis indicated that the (CHB) adsorbent followed second-order kinetics. The isotherm study indicated that the Freundlich model provided the best fit for the equilibrium data. The removal of BG using CHB adsorbent indicated that ΔGᴼ ranged from −2.22 to −2.37 KJ/mol. However, the ΔHᴼ received results was 3.91 KJ/mol. The determination indicating the adsorption process was endothermic and takes place spontaneously has been verified by the thermodynamic study. The results from the regeneration experiments indicated that the BG dye adsorption successfully completed up to five adsorption-desorption cycles while retaining an efficiency of 82.7% throughout the entire process. This (CHB) adsorbent providing an efficient and environmentally friendly for wastewater treatment.

The two-dimensional (2D) g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets have been widely recognized for their great potential in gas sensing. However, the disadvantages brought by layer stacking of two-dimensional nanosheets also seriously affect their performance and application. In this paper, three-dimensional hydrangea-like Pd-ZIF-67/g-C 3 N 4 was prepared for the detection of nitrogen dioxide gas at room temperature via a simple hydrothermal method . The Pd-ZIF-67/g-C 3 N 4 gas sensor exhibited excellent sensing properties with highest sensing response (23.8–100 ppm), ultrafast response speed (0.5 s) and lowest limit of detection (10 ppb) at room temperature. Moreover, it also manifests excellent reversibility and durability, optimal stability and commendable selectivity towards NO 2 gas. This excellent performance is due to the three-dimensional spatial configuration, synergistic effect and catalytic action of Pd . In general, the constructed structure and the proposed design strategy have a certain promoting role in promoting the creation of high performance gas sensors with three-dimensional heterogeneous structures based on two-dimensional nanosheets .

It is of great significance to rationally regulate the activation mechanism of peroxymonosulfate for wastewater treatment. Herein, for the first time, a newly-constructed NiCo 2 O 4 @ZIF-67 core–shell nanocage was employed as a mediator for effective removal of tetracycline (TC). As-prepared NiCo 2 O 4 @ZIF-67 displayed reduced charge transfer resistance and enhanced electron transfer rate. Importantly, more than 99.58% of TC can be degraded within 30 min by developed NiCo 2 O 4 @ZIF-67/PMS system, and the removal efficiency of TOC was as high as 72.81%. Moreover, antimicrobial tests revealed the low toxicity or non-toxic of degradation products. More interestingly, after coating ZIF-67 film on the surface of NiCo 2 O 4 , the electron transfer process among PMS, contaminant and catalyst was enhanced. The radical and nonradical pathways worked in coordination each other and achieved the rapid removal of various organic pollutants. The ZIF-67-derived NiCo 2 O 4 core dominated the generation of reactive oxygen species, while the coated ZIF-67 shell induced the electron transfer from TC to PMS. Besides, the introduction of ZIF-67 not only improved the anti-interference for inorganic anions, but also boosted the water stability, thereby resulting in that NiCo 2 O 4 @ZIF-67 still remained great catalytic performance after repeated use for several times. In short, current work shared a promising approach for wastewater treatment.

Lithium-sulfur batteries can have several times the energy density of conventional lithium-ion batteries and are a likely replacement for such batteries in high-daensity storage systems. Nevertheless, slow reaction kinetics, the shuttle effect of polysulfides and a low Coulomb efficiency hinder the commercialization of lithium-sulfur batteries. In this work, a polar Co 3 Se 4 nitrogen-doped porous carbon (Co 3 Se 4 -N-C) framework material was synthesized from ZIF-67 and used as a sulfur substrate for Li-S batteries to retard the shuttle effect of LiPSs and improve the cycling stability. Based on experiments and theoretical calculations, it is proven that Co 3 Se 4 -N-C is an effective electrode material to promote polysulfide conversion. The specific capacity of discharge at 0.1 C reaches 1370.9 mAh g −1 , with a decay rate of 0.057 % per cycle after 500 cycles at 1 C.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a prospective and ultrasensitive analytical technique because of its prominent molecular fingerprint diagnosis ability. Nonetheless, the tested molecules are typically required to be steadily attached onto a SERS-active region, which makes it tough to monitor feebly adsorbed molecules . In this study, a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based flexible SERS substrate combined with silver nanocubes (Ag NCs) and ZIF-67 was developed with a facile layer-by-layer strategy. A superhigh enhancement factor (EF) of 9.1 × 10 8 M was obtained by electromagnetic enhancement from the promising Ag NCs in conjunction with the molecular anchoring surface and chemical enhancement ability of ZIF-67. Furthermore, the practical SERS-based detection of quercetin with an ultra-low limit of detection (LOD) of 2.3 × 10 −5 mg/mL was subsequently achieved utilizing this multifunctional substrate, indicating its intriguing outlook in the direct monitoring of food nutrients. Notably, the intrinsic Raman signal at 2905 cm −1 of PDMS framework was adequately utilized as an internal standard to promote the reliability of such detection. It is anticipated that this smart platform with both prominent SERS performance and quantitative test ability may find an extensive application in the domains of food and biochemical assay.

Graphical We prepared the Co-based materials via the pyrolysis of ZIF-67 at low temperature, and obtained the optimum catalyst ZIF-67-Sg-350-10 with the conversion of 1-butene, aldehyde selectivity and n/i ratio of 94.9 %, 77.1 % and 2.2, respectively. We prepared the Co-based materials via the pyrolysis of ZIF-67 at low temperature (250 °C~350 °C), and obtained the optimum catalyst ZIF-67-Sg-350-10 with the conversion of 1-butene, aldehyde selectivity and n/i ratio of 94.9 %, 77.1 % and 2.2, respectively. The conversion of 1-butene and aldehyde selectivity obviously increased with the increasing pyrolysis temperature and pyrolysis time. It was found that the interaction between the Co cluster and N-doped carbon composites could improve the hydroformylation activity. Different catalyst models were built to investigate the active centers (Co) in the derived materials. The Co-N4 surface was the best catalyst model with the lowest hydrogen insertion reaction energy barrier (0.37 eV).

Thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes based on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have received increasing attention in the field of water treatment. However, TFN membranes with both high permeance and rejection rates are highly desired. In this study, ultra-thin ZIF-67 was synthesized and TFN membranes were fabricated by combining the obtained 2D ZIF-67 with cellulose nanofibers (CNF) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The nanofibers not only fill the gaps between the ZIF-67 nanosheets but also form an intercalation layer between the ZIF-67 nanosheets and function as a water transport pathway, leading to a significant enhancement of water permeance. By introducing CNF into the ZIF-67-embedded matrix, the dye rejection rates increase to 96.8 % and 93.3 %, respectively, with water permeance of about 90.0 L⋅m −2 ⋅h −1 ⋅bar −1 . Further introducing CNT into the CNF/ZIF-67 membrane further improved the water permeance to 207.8 L⋅m −2 ⋅h −1 ⋅bar −1 , while a dye rejection rate of 95.1 % was documented. The results indicate that the introduction of nanofibers into 2D MOF matrix to form TFN membranes has great potential for wastewater treatment.

The activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is related to various pathological processes. Therefore, developing an ALP activity detection technology with high sensitivity and accuracy is of great significance for clinical diagnosis and cancer screening. To solve uncontrollable carbon nanotubes (CNTs) structure and lack of solubility, FeCo hollow nanocages (HNCs)@CNTs catalysts were prepared by facile pyrolysis of ZIF-67 precursor mixed with Fe-Co catalyst, displaying an oxidase-like activity. From the characterization, formation of CNTs was observed on the surface of FeCo HNCs@CNTs with the mole ratio of Fe 3+ to Co 2+ of 3:1. Density functional theory calculations demonstrated that the performed catalytic activity of FeCo HNCs@CNTs derived from active orbital of Co-3d band, which enabled the activation and decomposition of O 2 with a feasible thermodynamic process. · O 2 − and 1 O 2 were the main reactive oxygen species as electron acceptors. ALP catalyzed the hydrolysis of ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP) to convert it into ascorbic acid (AA), which could effectively reduce the FeCo HNCs@CNTs-mediated chromogenic reaction of TMB oxidation. The performance of the FeCo HNCs@CNTs-linked biosensing assay showed a broad detection range from 0.1 U/L to 150 U/L and a relatively low limit of detection of 0.083 U/L. The ALP activity of the mouse serum sample obtained by the proposed biosensing assay was highly consistent with that via the clinical method, indicating a promising technology in biomolecule detection.
