As a new generation of non-precious metal catalysts , nickel phosphide is regarded as an ideal substitute for precious metal platinum in electrochemical hydrogen evolution . Here, a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst is developed by in situ growth of Ni 2 P/Ni 5 P 4 heterostructures on porous N decorated rGO foam (named Ni 2 P/Ni 5 P 4 /N-rGO). The porous rGO foam structure provides a larger surface area and abundant active sites. The Ni 2 P/Ni 5 P 4 nanoparticles with heterostructures are uniformly distributed on the rGO sheet, which enhance the charge transfer ability. The decorating of N element also correspondingly improves the HER performance. The as-prepared Ni 2 P/Ni 5 P 4 /N-rGO exhibits excellent HER performance in alkaline medium . When the current density is 10 mA cm −2 , the overpotential is only 22 mV. No obvious loss of HER activity after 2000 cyclic voltammetry indicates that the composite has excellent stability. This work presents a valuable route for fabricating inexpensive and high-performance catalysts for electrocatalysis .

Carbon aerogel shows great potential in electromagnetic interference shielding (EMI) application and is generally strengthened by epoxy impregnation for harsh working environment. However, it is still challenging to simultaneously achieve high mechanical robustness and EMI performance, especially taking low-cost and light-weight feature into account. In this work, a “gelation-press drying-impregnation & micro-foaming” method was systematically reported to target microcellular epoxy foam containing hybrid reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/short-carbon-fiber (SCF) aerogel . Herein, aerogel morphology was transformed from isotropic honey-comb structure into anisotropic corrugated structure by controllable press air-drying. A further supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) foaming process was implemented for density reduction. Moreover, the anisotropic microcellular epoxy(m-EP)/rGO-SCF foam (D = ∼0.48 μm, N f = 5.02 × 10 12 cell/cm 3 ) shows low density (1.14 g/cm 3 ), high electrical conductivity (2365.0 S/m), enhanced compressibility (σ b = 243.0 MPa, ε b = ∼45%) and outstanding EMI shielding effectiveness (95.5 dB) with a low thickness (2.0 mm) within X band (8.2–12.4 GHz). Therefore, our work provides a universal step-by-step and industrial-friendly approach to fabricate light-weight carbon-aerogel-based foams with anisotropic carbon structure and outstanding EMI performance.

The weak adhesion and tribological properties of polyimide (PI) restrict its practical application as bonded solid lubricating coatings in high-tech fields. Herein, a novel PI bonded solid lubricating coating was prepared using hyperbranched polysiloxane containing Si-O-C chain segments (HBPSi) and MoS 2 /reduced graphene oxide (rGO) heterostructured particles. Surprisingly, the adhesion, average coefficient of friction, wear life and load carrying capacity of the PI bonded solid lubricating coating can achieve level 1, 0.03, 550 s and 3400 N, respectively. In particular, the average coefficient of friction in the stabilization stage is reduced by 91.4 % compared to the pure PI coating, which is superior to that of most reported polyimide coatings. This is attributed to the synergistic enhancement effect of “soft-hard” particles between HBPSi and MoS 2 /rGO heterostructured particles. Furthermore, this work provides an important direction for the design and preparation of high-performance bonded solid lubricating coatings.

Although lithium sulfur batteries (LSBs) have high theoretical capacity and energy density , low conductivity of sulfur and the discharge species (Li 2 S 2 , Li 2 S), the polysulfide shuttle and the large volume change hinder the commercialization of LSBs. To tackle the problem, we hydrothermally prepared a special cocklebur-like ZnSe-VO 2 @rGO nanostructure , in which graphene oxide (GO) is active in inducing thorn-like VO 2 nanorods grown on carambola-like VO 2 nanostructures. In this structure, the polar VO 2 and ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) have strong chemical adsorption that can catalyze the polysulfide conversion and alleviate the shuttle effect; besides, the thorn-like VO 2 nanorods act like numerous tentacles that capture polysulfides by increasing the contact area, and the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets not only buffer the volume change, but also enhance the conductivity of the framework and improve the ion and electron transfer . Boosted by the synergetic effects of VO 2 , rGO and ZnSe QDs, the ZnSe-VO 2 @rGO/S cathode achieves a high specific capacity of 1026.1 mA h g −1 at 0.2 C and 712.3 mA h g −1 at 2 C. Good cyclic stability was obtained as well, with a high reversible capacity of 820 mA h g −1 and high retention of 89.1 % after cycling at 0.5 C for 150 cycles. Such outstanding performance indicated its good potential for use in advanced LSBs.

Herein, a MnFe2O4/RGO knitted fabric derived from manganese waste was constructed by a simple in-situ assembled coating method, involving the incorporation of Graphene Oxide (GO) and manganese ferrite nanoparticles on polyester fabric, followed reducing by hydrazine hydrate. The reuse of manganese waste from the preparation of GO can reduce chemical waste emissions and endow the absorption performance. The coated particles possess certain magnetism can be attracted and securely collected in seconds, which is convenient for recycling. This fabric gives well microwave absorption with the maximum reflection loss (RL) of −58.6 dB at 9.1 GHz by a thickness of 1.9 mm. In addition, this fabric presents high stable strain sensing under 1000 stretching and bending cycles. Meanwhile, the resistance-deformation-velocity relationship is provided based on the structure, for the analysis of electromechanical behaviors. Moreover, the fabric has the capability for temperature sensing (TCR=−0.738%/°C), and fire alarm. As such, this fabric can be promising alternatives for a wide application on motion and temperature sensing, microwave blocking.

As a promising advanced oxidation process , electro-Fenton (EF) technology could in-situ generate H 2 O 2 through 2e - oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and then activate H 2 O 2 into reactive oxygen species to degrade the organic pollutants in wastewater. However, its practical application is limited by the sluggish ORR kinetics and acidic condition (pH < 3), which requires external addition of acids, ferrous salts (Fe II ) or even H 2 O 2 . To improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment , targeted development on EF technology based on specific application scenario is also critical. In this contribution, a flow through EF system was developed to remove the antibiotic pollutants in the meat processing wastewater, where the EF process was significantly enhanced by the reduced graphene oxides (rGO) aerogel cathode and the presence of polyphosphates (PPs). The interconnected 3D porous configuration of rGO aerogel with abundant oxygen functional groups greatly facilitated the mass and electron transfer during the flow-through EF process. Meanwhile, the formation of PPs film on the surface of sacrificial iron anode ensured continuous releasing of Fe II under near-neutral condition without rusting, and the generation of Fe II -PPs complexes effectively compensated the production of H 2 O 2 via the pathway of molecular oxygen activation. Moreover, 99.9% of phosphorus can be recycled and reused in the flow-through EF system by coupling the nanofiltration technology, enabling efficient removal of antibiotics and utilization of PPs in the wastewater.

Herein, a paper-based electrochemical sensor based on PtNP/COFTFPB−DHzDS@rGO was developed for the sensitive detection of furazolidone. A cluster-like covalent organic framework (COFTFPB−DHzDS) was successfully grown on the surface of amino-functional reduced graphene oxide (rGO-NH2) to avoid serious self-aggregation, which was further loaded with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) with high catalytic activity as nanozyme to obtain PtNP/COFTFPB−DHzDS@rGO nanocomposites. The morphology of PtNP/COFTFPB−DHzDS@rGO nanocomposites was characterized, and the results showed that the smooth rGO surface became extremely rough after the modification of COFTFPB−DHzDS. Meanwhile, ultra-small PtNPs with sizes of around 1 nm were precisely anchored on COFTFPB−DHzDSto maintain their excellent catalytic activity. The conventional electrodes were used to detect furazolidone and showed a detection limit as low as 5 nM and a linear range from 15 nM to 110 μM. In contrast, the detection limit for the paper-based electrode was 0.23 μM, and the linear range was 0.69–110 μM. The results showed that the paper-based electrode can be used to detect furazolidone. This sensor is a potential candidate for the detection of furazolidone residue in human serum and fish samples.Keywords:paper-based electrode;reduced graphene oxide;covalent organic framework;furazolidone;electrochemical sensor

Photocatalytic degradation is an effective technique for removing antibiotics from contaminated water . The kernel of photocatalytic degradation lies in the design and preparation of high-performance and recyclable catalysts. Herein, magnetic porous cobalt ferrite/reduced graphene oxide (CF/rGO) balls were prepared by calcination of spherical composites obtained via modified microfluidic method for effective photocatalytic degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC). The strong interfacial interaction between rGO and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles in porous balls enhanced electron transfer , charge separation and light absorption . Porous spherical structure was favorable for light harvesting. The catalyst could rapidly and efficiently absorb OTC. These characteristics were beneficial to the enhancement of photocatalytic efficiency. The optimized sample (CF/rGO-0.2) exhibited an excellent apparent rate constant (0.0410 min −1 ) for OTC degradation under visible light irradiation, which was 3.73 times that of CF/rGO-0 (0.0110 min −1 ). CF/rGO-0.2 had excellent stability in cycle experiments and could be quickly recovered by magnets. The trapping experiments showed that hole (h + ) and superoxide radicals (·O 2 - ) acted an extremely important role in degradation of OTC, thus suggesting a possible photocatalytic reaction mechanism. This work provides a potential photocatalyst for antibiotic removal from water.

A novel non-enzymatic electrochemical sensing platform for nitrite, composed of Co-based porous metal organic frameworks (ZIF-67), reduced graphene oxide (RGO), and nickel nanoparticles (NiNPs), was developed. The prepared ZIF-67, RGO and ZIF-67C@RGO were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The fabricated nitrite sensor, ZIF-67C@RGO/NiNPs/GCE, exhibits a higher catalytic current intensity than that of NiNPs/GCE, ZIF-67C/GCE, ZIF-67C/NiNPs/GCE, and ZIF-67C@RGO/GCE. The catalytic current change of the amperometric i - t curve of nitrite demonstrated a linear relationship with the concentration in the linear range of 0.2–123 μM (R 2 = 0.9936) and 123–473 μM (R 2 = 0.998), and the limit of detection (LOD) reached 0.086 μM. Furthermore, the ZIF-67C@RGO/NiNPs/GCE showed good stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability. This developed sensor was successfully applied to the detection of nitrite in ham sausage.

Exploring excellent catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with a facile and cost-effective method is desirable but remains challenging. Herein, ultra-small PtCu 3 nanoparticles ( ca. 2.7 nm), immobilized on reduced graphene oxide (rGO), were synthesized via a novel and general strategy. Traceless protectant, NH 4 OH, was used to resist the aggregation of graphene oxide (GO), and the spray-freeze-drying method ensures excellent dispersion of the Pt and Cu precursors, which could not be achieved by other reported drying methods. After annealing, the nanoparticles with the highest mass loading, 52%, among reported ordered Pt-based catalysts were obtained. The PtCu 3 /rGO shows a remarkable electrocatalytic performance. Density functional theory calculations elucidate that PtCu 3 possess a lowered energy barrier of the rate-determining step, contributing to significantly improved ORR kinetics. This strategy was extended to the synthesis of other binary- and quaternary-metallic Pt-based nanoparticles, which proved its generality and applicability towards the potential commercialization of fuel cell technologies.

In order to overcome the problems caused by electromagnetic pollution, the design and development of high-performance microwave absorbers is urgently required. In this work, a hierarchical ZnFe 2 O 4 @MnO 2 @RGO composite was successfully fabricated via a facile and rapid hydrothermal method . Its unique core-shell structure and synergistic effect between multiple components are beneficial for electromagnetic wave absorption. The morphology, elemental composition, microstructure and microwave absorption characteristics were systematically studied. With a filler loading of 20 wt%, the composite presents a minimum reflection loss (R Lmin ) of −46.7 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) as wide as 5.2 GHz at a thickness of 2.5 mm. The superior absorption ability profits from a special microstructure, good impedance matching, multiple attenuation features, interfacial polarization, and the synergistic effect of dielectric and magnetic loss. Consequently, this work lays a foundation for the design of high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbers with multicomponent heterogeneous structures.

Hydrous hydrazine (N2H4·H2O) has great potential as a convenient and safe hydrogen source for fuel cells. Tremendous efforts have been made to develop economic and efficient metal catalysts for hydrogen evolution from N2H4·H2O, but it remains a huge challenge. Herein, for the first time, noble-metal-free CuNi nanoparticles (NPs) immobilized on lanthanum oxycarbonate/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites (CuNi/La2O2CO3/rGO) were successfully fabricated through an impregnation-reduction approach. Well-dispersed and ultrafine CuNi alloy NPs (∼3.2 nm) can be easily anchored onto La2O2CO3/rGO, and the aggregation of metal NPs can be effectively avoided. Benefiting from the small metal NP size, the synergistic effect between Cu and Ni, and the strong metal–support interactions, the Cu0.5Ni0.5/La2O2CO3/rGO nanocomposites (NCs) exhibited remarkably improved catalytic activity and 100% H2 selectively toward N2H4 decomposition, outperforming Cu/La2O2CO3/rGO, Ni/La2O2CO3/rGO, CuNi/rGO, and CuNi/La2O2CO3. The total turnover frequency of Cu0.5Ni0.5/La2O2CO3/rGO catalyst reached up to 114.3 h–1 at 343 K, indicating that the Cu0.5Ni0.5/La2O2CO3/rGO is one of the most active noble-metal-free catalysts ever reported for the same reaction. The low-cost and outstanding catalytic activity of CuNi/La2O2CO3/rGO NCs improved the feasibility of using N2H4·H2O as a chemical hydrogen carrier and is expected to be applied in economic hydrogen-based fuel cells.
