Inspired by the strong adhesion of mussels, basalt fibers (BFs) were modified with polydopamine and then composited with nylon 6. The effect of polydopamine content on the interfacial interactions and mechanical properties of the composites was investigated. In addition, silica nanoparticles were grown on the surface of polydopamine-modified BFs to investigate the synergistic effect. The study revealed that the mechanical properties of the composites based on polydopamine-modified BF were gradually enhanced with the increase of the dopamine coverage concentration, and gradually decreased after reaching the peak. 0.5 g/L concentration of dopamine solution modified BFs showed the best enhancement effect on nylon 6, and its tensile strength could reach 133.1 MPa, which was 28.5% higher than that of the unmodified composites. The tensile strength of the composites modified with both dopamine and silica nanoparticles reached 157 MPa, which was 51.7% higher than that of the unmodified composites. In addition, scanning electron microscope images of fracture sections confirmed the strong interfacial interaction between BF and PA6. Highlights The surface roughness of BF was increased by nano-SiO 2 . Hydrogen bonding was formed between PDA and PA6. Physical interlock was formed between nano-SiO 2 and PA6. Tensile strength increased by 51.7% with both nano-SiO 2 and PDA. Stronger interfacial interaction leads to higher thermal stability.

Natural killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapy is a promising approach for treating solid tumors and hematological malignancies. However, its therapeutic efficacy is limited by poor tumor infiltration and suppressive tumor microenvironment. Here, we introduce a rapid, simple, and efficient solution: bovine serum albumin-stabilized ultra-small (4 nm) NK cell nano-engagers, termed Bi 2 Se 3 @BSA nanodots (Nds). These Nds, responsive to high H 2 O 2 levels in tumor cell environments, enhance near-infrared (NIR)-II photothermic immunotherapy. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate their effectiveness in activating photothermal therapy (PTT)-induced immunogenic cell death (ICD), initiating immune cascade reactions, and stimulating immune response activation. By upregulating NKG2D, RAE-1, and secreting cytokines such as IFN-γ and TNF-α, targeted NK cell infiltration is achieved, reversing the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and optimizing NK cell cytotoxicity. Transcriptomic analysis confirms the association of immune response activation with the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. Notably, combining these nano-engagers with immune checkpoint inhibitors (aPD-1) significantly enhances therapeutic efficacy, facilitating tumor eradication and reducing recurrence risk. Taken together, NK cell nano-engagers inhibit the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, target NK cell activation, stimulate immune functions, and improve the immunosuppressive microenvironment. This study presents an alternative strategy for NK cell-based immunotherapy and highlights this promising tool for cancer immunotherapy.

Eco-friendly flame-retardant fabrics have recently been widely concerned and developed due to highly flammable characteristics of fabrics and environmental protection issues. Phytic acid (PA) was optimized as a common flame-retardant relying on its environmentally friendly and flame retardant characteristics. However, the strong acidity of PA always results in the loss in mechanical properties of the fabric. Herein, a synergetic strategy by compositing PA and ethanolamine (ETA) was proposed to enhance the flame resistance of the PA6 fabric. As a result, after the flame-retardant coatings prepared by the synergy of PA and ETA are impregnated on the surface of PA6 fabric, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of PA6 fabrics increased from 21.2 % to 30.4 % with on a well mechanical strength retention rate (MSR) (more than 75 %), which is much better than the PA6 fabric treated by pure PA (LOI: 25.3 %, MSR: less than 40 %). The analysis results indicate that ETA not only reduces the damage of PA to PA6 fabrics but also plays an important role as a carbon and nitrogen source in the intumescent flame-retardant mechanism. This synergistic strategy provides a new reference for the development of environmentally friendly flame-retardant coatings.

With the number of vehicles increases every year, the demand for flame retardant and thermal oxidative stabilized PA6 has also surged significantly. Therefore, it is crucial to improve the flame retardancy and thermal oxidative stability of PA6. In this regard, a novel dual-functional cuprous diethylphosphinate (CuDP) was successfully prepared through an ion exchange reaction and was used to prepare PA6 composites. The effects of CuDP on the flame retardancy and thermal oxidative stability of PA6 composites were studied in detail. In contrast with an LOI value of 22.6, pHRR of 911.3 kW m −2 , and THR of 109.2 MJ m −2 for pure PA6, the addition of 15 wt% of CuDP upgrades the LOI value to 28.2 and reached UL-94 V-0 rating. Meanwhile, there was a 43.8 %, 22.3 % and 17.9 % decrease in pHRR, THR and av-CO 2 Y, respectively. In addition, the flame retardant mechanism of CuDP was explored in detail, where CuDP can encourage PA6 to form a protective char layer in the condense phase and quench free radicals in the gas phase. Moreover, the incorporation of CuDP helped maintain the mechanical properties of PA6 composites during accelerated thermal oxidative aging experiments. This work presents a new approach for enhancing the flame retardancy and thermal oxidative stability of PA6 composites, which paves the way for its broader application.

The π-conjugated [C3H6+xN6]x+ (x = 0–3) cations are good functional groups, which are widely employed in the preparations of nonlinear optical (NLO) and birefringent materials due to their high hyperpolarizability and optical anisotropy. In this paper, the first melamine hydroxyborate [C3H7N6]3[B3O5(OH)2] (MelBO-I) was synthesized by the boric acid melting method under the molar ratio of H3BO3:C3H6N6 = 1:1. MelBO-I (P21/c) exhibits a two-dimensional (2D) {[C3H7N6]3[B3O5(OH)2]}∞ layer composed of [C3H7N6]+ cations and [B3O5(OH)2]3– anions interconnected via hydrogen bonds. MelBO-I exhibits significant birefringence (Δn = 0.286@546 nm). Under the molar ratio of H3BO3/C3H6N6 = 3:1, [C3H8N6]4[B12O19(OH)6] (MelBO-II) was isolated. In MelBO-II (P21), highly polymerized [B12O19(OH)6]8– groups form a 3D network through hydrogen bonding, featuring 1D tunnels of 8-membered and 16-membered rings filled by [C3H8N6]2+ cations. MelBO-II is the first noncentrosymmetric (NCS) bifunctional melamine borate with a moderate SHG response (0.4 × KDP) and large birefringence (Δn = 0.285@546 nm). The results indicate that incorporating [C3H6+xN6]x+ (x = 0–3) cations into borate can effectively induce birefringence. A high concentration of boric acid promotes the formation of large boric acid cluster anions and facilitates the transformation from the CS to NCS structure.

A facile, ultrasensitive, reproductive and selective sensor strip utilizing electrospun polyamide-6/nitrocellulose (PA-6/NC) nano-fibers/nets (NFN) membranes assemble bovine serum albumin decorated Au nanoparticles (BAu probe) for naked-eye colorimetric assay of Pb 2+ has successfully prepared through dual-component alternate distribution multifluidic electrospinning technique . Benefiting from the extremely large specific surface areas and high porosity of NFN membranes, the stability of BAu probe dramatically increased and the strips presented a significant absorbance decreasing band at 546 nm which induce the visual color changes from deep pink to white after incubated in Pb 2+ liquor with a low detection limit of 0.2 μM without any assistance of equipment. Upon exposure to a series of metal ions , only Pb 2+ could induce a pink-to-white color change, which clearly exhibited that BAu probe immobilized PA-6/NC membranes could act as highly selective strips to detect Pb 2+ with little interference from other metal ions. Additionally, the colorimetric responses are represented in visualized quantitative by calculated color difference from L ⁎ a ⁎ b ⁎ coordinates which are presented with lightness and chrome values. Furthermore, the sensitivity of NFN membrane-based strips is much higher than that of film-based ones. The results indicate that this promising cost-effective sensing system could potentially allow for assaying of Pb 2+ in human urine or blood as preliminary screening of lead poisoning.

In this study, a novel macromolecular flame retardant (MFR) with a phosphine oxide structure is successfully synthesized to improve the flame retardancy of polyamide 6 (PA6). Following this, the flame-retardant polyamide 6 (FR–PA6) is prepared via melt blending the MFR with PA6. Results indicate that the introduction of MFR has little effect on the melting and crystallization temperature of FR–PA6. While it slightly reduces the thermal stability of PA6, MFR significantly enhances its flame retardancy. The limiting oxygen index of FR–PA6 increases from 21.8% to 28.2%, and it successfully passes the UL-94 V-0 rating when it contains 0.5 wt% of phosphorus. Compared with pure PA6, the av-EHC of FR–PA6 is reduced by 32.2% and the SEA is increased by 66.7%. The MFR showed a flame-retardant mechanism in both the gas phase and the condensed phase. In the gas phase, the decomposition of MFR releases phosphorus-containing free radicals to interrupt the combustion chain reaction and reduces the concentration of the combustible caprolactam. In the condensed phase, the MFR promotes faster formation of melt droplets during combustion, taking heat away from the burning PA6 timely.

In fiber-reinforced composites, the interfacial bonding between fibers and the matrix is crucial for determining the material's performance. A vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process was utilized in this work to fabricate glass fiber fabric-reinforced polyamide 6 (GFF/PA6) composites through in-situ polymerization using caprolactam (CL) as the precursor. To enhance the fiber-matrix interfacial bonding, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was incorporated into the polymerization system, improving the hydrogen bonding between the matrix and fibers. Morphological observations and interface layer analysis revealed that the introduction of PEG resulted in improved interfacial bonding and increased interface layer thickness. Molecular dynamics simulations indicated that the amino formate groups formed by the reaction with PEG exhibited more hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl groups on the glass fiber surface, thereby promoting interfacial bonding between the matrix and fibers. When the PEG content was 10 wt%, the tensile strength and the elongation at break of the corresponding composite increased by 160% and 300% compared to GFF/PA6 composites without PEG. This study presents a promising strategy for enhancing the fiber-matrix interfacial bonding by modifying the matrix, offering a prospective approach for developing high-strength thermoplastic composites. Highlights GFF/PA6 composites were fabricated via the VARTM method. The addition of PEG for matrix modification improved the interfacial bonding. The modification enhances the hydrogen bonding between the matrix and fibers. Good interfacial bonding can greatly promote the crystallization of the matrix. The composites exhibited a significant increase in strength and toughness.

Bio-based polyamide elastomers, known for their excellent mechanical properties, represent a promising environmentally friendly material with significant potential. In this study, we synthesized TPA510/6(short for polyamide 510/6 elastomer, the main components of which are 1.5-Pentanediamine, sebacic acid, caprolactam and polyetheramine), a polyamide elastomer with a high bio-based content, outstanding low-temperature resistance, and superior mechanical performance. Additionally, microcellular elastic foams with pore sizes below 10 nm were fabricated by foaming with supercritical carbon dioxide. These TPA510/6 foams demonstrated remarkable tensile strength, compressive strength, low-temperature resistance, and friction resistance. Furthermore, simulations of the thermal insulation properties of the foams under real-world conditions revealed low thermal conductivity, highlighting their excellent insulation performance. As a result, the bio-based polyamide elastomer foams developed in this study show significant promise for applications in areas such as building insulation, sports protection, and thermal camouflage.

Direct spinning of polyamide 6 (PA 6) fibers, traditionally impeded by the presence of approximately 10% residual monomer and oligomers in the polymerized form, has been made feasible through our innovative approach. Current extraction methods predominantly employ hot water to extract monomer and oligomers. However, this approach is characterized by time-consuming procedures, high energy consumption, and substantial water usage. Therefore, in this study, a straightforward falling-film devolatilization method is proposed to synchronize the liquid-phase viscosity enhancement and oligomer removal of PA 6. PA 6 industrial yarns were successfully produced using devolatilized PA 6 (D-PA 6) obtained by this method. The viscosities of D-PA 6 samples were increased from 2.5 and 2.8 to 2.8 and 3.4, their monomer contents were reduced to 0.26%, and their dimer and residual oligomer contents were reduced to 0.54 and 2.54%, respectively, with a lower removal of dimer and trimer. The process led to a wider molecular weight distribution, consistent with that typical of PA 6 spinning. The obtained PA 6 industrial yarn exhibited a high degree of crystallinity, and its orientation, thermal properties, and mechanical properties were comparable to those of conventional yarn. Although its dyeing ability was slightly compromised, this did not hinder the practical application of the PA 6 industrial yarn. The falling-film devolatilization process enables simultaneous viscosity enhancement and devolatilization without the need for hot-water extraction (24 h) and drying (24 h), drastically shortening the production time from more than 48 h to less than 10 h, thereby greatly reducing energy consumption and wastewater discharge. This study provides technical guidance for the sustainable industrial production of PA 6 industrial yarn by direct melt-spinning, which significantly reduces energy and environmental impacts while improving production efficiency.

In order to explore novel natural product-based insecticidal agent, two important intermediates ( 2 and 3 ) and 4-acyloxy-2′-bromo-6′-chloropodophyllotoxin derivatives ( 4 a – f and 5 a – f ) were designed and prepared, and their structures were confirmed by 1 H-NMR, 13 C NMR, HRMS, ESI-MS, optical rotation and melting point (mp). The stereochemical configuration of compound 4 b was unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Moreover, we evaluated the insecticidal activity of target compounds 4 a – f and 5 a – f against a serious agricultural pest of Mythimna separata by using the leaf-dipping method. Among all tested compounds, compounds 4 d , 5 d and 5 f exhibited stronger insecticidal activity with a final mortality rate exceeding 60 %. Especially compound 5 d exhibited the best insecticidal activity, with a final mortality rate of 74.1 %. It has been proven that introducing bromine or chlorine atoms at the C-2′, C-2′ and C-6′ positions of the E ring of podophyllotoxin can produce more potent compounds. In addition, the configuration of the C-4 position is important for insecticidal activity, and 4β-configuration is optimal. This will pave the way for further design, structural modification, and development of derivatives of podophyllotoxin as insecticidal agents. Graphical

Key message Cytosolic G6PDH contributes to soybean tolerance to heavy metal exposure by alleviating oxidative damage, and in this process, nitric oxide may act upstream of cytosolic G6PDH. Heavy metal (HM) pollution in soil significantly impairs agricultural production and represents a substantial risk to food security. However, the underlying mechanism by which glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH or G6PD, EC 1.1.1.49) alleviates HM toxicity needs further clarification. In this study, the role of G6PDH in mitigating the toxicity of HMs (chromium, cadmium, copper, lead, and mercury) was examined in soybean ( Glycine max L.) using pharmacological and transgenic approaches. The findings indicate that the enhanced G6PDH activity observed during HM exposure was attributable to cytosolic G6PDH induction. HM stress induced the expression of cytosolic G6PDH genes ( GmG6PD6 , GmG6PD7 , and GmG6PD8 ), particularly GmG6PD7 . Overexpression of GmG6PD7 in soybean hairy roots enhanced G6PDH activity and HM tolerance. The addition of a G6PDH inhibitor during HM exposure markedly reduced the levels of NADPH, ascorbic acid (ASA), and reduced glutathione (GSH) in soybean roots, thereby exacerbating oxidative damage. In contrast, overexpression of GmG6PD7 significantly increased the contents of NADPH, ASA, and GSH in transgenic soybean roots under HM exposure, thereby alleviating oxidative damage. Furthermore, nitric oxide (NO) stimulated an elevation in cytosolic G6PDH activity and GmG6PD7 expression under HM exposure. Notably, G6PDH demonstrated comparable functionality in response to all five HMs examined. In summary, the NO-mediated induction of cytosolic G6PDH enhances soybean resistance to HM exposure through strengthening the antioxidant defense system.
