The new design strategy will provide the possibility for preparing a dynamic sensor by employing the inhibition of C = N isomerization. In this work, the functional probe 4-(1 H-imidazo [4,5-f] [1,10]-phenanthrolin-2-yl) benzaldehyde oxime (compound 4 ) has been synthesized and such molecule gives rise to blue emission. Due to the incorporation of hypochlorite, the oxime group can be oxidized to the structure of aldehyde. As a result, the molecular motif exhibits sharp emission change from blue to green due to the addition of hypochlorite with enough sensitivity and selectivity (detection limit = 53 nM, linear range 0.5-8.0 µM). It has also been used for monitoring ClO − by employing solution color change and the absorption signal difference could effectively rule out the effects of interference species. To our knowledge, it will be the first case of a highly selective hypochlorite sensor derived from oxime isomerization reaction based on phenanthroline backbone.

A novel heteropolysaccharide with about twenty sugar residues named DF80-2 was obtained from Angelica pubescens Maxim. f. biserrata Shan et Yuan root, one of the most widely used traditional Chinese medicines for thousands of years in China. The possible structure of DF80-2 was proposed considering the comprehensive results of physicochemical properties, methylation analysis, and 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy, which showed that its main chain was composed of (1→3)-, and (1→4)-linked-α- d -Glc p , (1→4)-linked-β- d -Gal p , (1→6)-linked-α- d -Man p , and (1→3)-linked-α- l -Ara f , and the branch was present as the α- d -Glc p -(1→3)-β- d -Gal p A disaccharides stretched from O -6 position of (1→4)-linked-α- d -Glc moiety in the main chain. Congo red analysis, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy showed that DF80-2 possessed a triple helical conformation, and its branched monomers were interlaced with one another forming a regular network structure. DF80-2 exhibited antioxidant activity by effectively scavenging DPPH, and hydroxyl radicals, and chelating ferrous ions.

Exploring the low-cost and high-efficient electrocatalysts with Pt-like activity for alkaline hydrogen evolution through water splitting is imperative yet challenging. Herein, a simple synthesis combined with electrodeposition and facile electro-oxidation is developed to construct the hollow dendritic self-supported electrode (HDSE). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) reveal that the surface of HDSE contains the abundant NiO, which is further decorated by fluorine (F)-doped and oxygen vacancies after electro-oxidation process. The resultant HDSE achieves an excellent electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline condition, leading to the extremely low overpotential of 13 mV to drive a current density of −10 mA·cm −2 , and exhibits the long-time stability at the current density of −100 mA·cm −2 and −500 mA·cm −2 , which is superior to the electrocatalytic ability of Pt/C. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations illustrate the NiO modulated by F-doping and oxygen vacancy, could synergistically improve the charge distribution, enhance the conductivity of NiO structure, and optimize the adsorption energy for intermediates of HER, thus accelerating the electrocatalytic ability for hydrogen evolution. This work opens up a new avenue toward the reasonable design of high-efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction.

Proton exchange membranes prepared from poly(aryl sulfone)s still need to overcome the drawbacks of chemical stability in acidic environments and low electrical conductivity due to water loss at high temperatures. Herein, we synthesized densely sulfonated poly(aryl sulfone) proton exchange membranes containing a 1H-imidazo[4,5-F][1,10]-phenanthroline moiety on the side chain with a metal ion coordination function. The coordination of 1H-imidazo[4,5-F][1,10]-phenanthroline groups to metal ions can effectively prevent the formation of •OH radicals from homolytic cleavage of H2O2 catalyzed by metal ions. Since the conditions for the continuous formation of •OH radicals are fundamentally eliminated, the antioxidant stability of the membrane material is greatly improved. Mesoscale microscopic simulations showed that 1H-imidazo[4,5-F][1,10]-phenanthroline has the effect of inducing phase separation, endowing the proton exchange membrane with a larger hydrophilic structural domain and possibly constructing a better connected channel for proton transport. Notably, these membranes can efficiently capture the Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions to form stable [Fe(phen)3]2+ and [Fe(phen)3]3+ interconnection points, respectively, which could not only enforce the water retention and the mechanical properties of the membranes but also serve as a catalyzed point to prevent H2O2 from undergoing homolytic cleavage and forming •OH radicals.

This study aimed to determine the efficacy of star anise dietary fiber (SADF) in alleviating the oxidative damage of myofibrillar protein (MP) from the perspective of volatile components. SADF and SADF without essential oils (EOs) (NSADF) were added to oxidized MP. The addition of NSADF and SADF improved the water-holding capacity (WHC) and gel strength, with the 0.4% addition showing the highest values. Moreover, the WHC of MP from the SADF-treated group was significantly higher than that from the NSADF-treated group at the same dosage, suggesting that EOs in SADF improved the WHC through antioxidation. EOs in SADF prevented the attack of hydroxyl radicals on MP, increasing the β-sheet level and decreasing the random coil level, which was supported by the results of FT-IR, carbonyl content, and sulfhydryl content. Limonene and anisaldehyde present in EOs played an antioxidant role, and anisaldehyde could scavenge free radicals through demethoxylation.

Exploring MXenes as supports for synthesis of highly efficient catalysts are extremely important for hydrodechlorination of chlorophenols because of the acute toxicity and strong potential bioaccumulation of chlorophenols. We reported a facile strategy to synthesize Rh nanoparticles deposited on 2D alk-Ti 3 C 2 X 2 (X = O, F) (alk-Ti 3 C 2 X 2 for short) MXene, which was prepared through the removal of the Al layers of Ti 3 AlC 2 and post-treatment by alkalization. Modifying the Ti 3 C 2 X 2 support by alkalization triggered the substitution of surface fluorine groups with surface oxygen species. The changes in the surface chemistry of alk-Ti 3 C 2 X 2 effectively prevented particle aggregation to form well-dispersed Rh nanoparticles in small sizes with relative high metal dispersion, thereafter improving the hydrogen uptake capacity of the catalyst. Consequently, the Rh/alk-Ti 3 C 2 X 2 catalyst significantly enhanced the catalytic performance for the HDC reaction, which could be assigned to the large number of active components from small Rh nanoparticles. This strategy provides a basis for investigating the use of MXenes as supports to synthesize well-defined metal nanoparticles in 2D layered structures for potential applications.

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge ( S. miltiorrhiza ) and Salvia castanea Diels f. t omentosa Stib ( S. castanea ) are both important medicinal plants which have been widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases. Tanshinone and phenolic acid are active and specialized metabolites in the two species. However, the divergent mechanism of specialized metabolism in the two species is yet unknown. We found that S. castanea produced higher levels of cryptotanshinone, tanshinone IIA, caffeic acid, and rosmarinic acid, but lower levels of dihydrotanshinone I and salvianolic acid B than S. miltiorrhiza . Some key genes involved in specialized metabolism were potentially associated with the diverse metabolism between the two species. LH with 1 g l −1 contributed more to tanshinone accumulation in S. castanea than that in S. miltiorrhiza . Genes involved in tanshinone biosynthesis in S. castanea were also more sensitive to LH than those in S. miltiorrhiza . Knowledge about diverse specialized metabolism in the two species will help us understand mechanism of tanshinone and phenolic acid biosynthesis.

The development of highly efficient non-precious electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) remains a significant challenge. In this work, we introduce a highly effective OER electrocatalyst, Cu-F-Co 3 O 4 , synthesized by doping copper (Cu) and fluorine (F) into Co 3 O 4 using a quenching method. Both experimental and theoretical calculations reveal that Cu and F incorporation significantly shifts the d-band center closer to the Fermi level, creates abundant oxygen vacancies, and facilitates the reconstruction of the catalyst to form the CuCo 2 O 4-y F y /CuO heterojunction. This structural modification enhances the OER performance of the catalyst. Additionally, the multi-dimensional architecture exposes more active sites and accelerates mass and charge transfer kinetics. The optimal catalyst, Cu-F-Co 3 O 4 -0.7, demonstrates a low overpotential of 290 mV at 10 mA·cm −2 , along with remarkable stability exceeding 100 h, significantly outperforming both pristine Co 3 O 4 and benchmark RuO 2 electrocatalysts. These findings offer new insights into activating surface reconstruction in spinel oxides by engineering both anion and cation defects for water oxidation.

The single ionic doping helps suppress the detrimental phase transition when P2-type layered cathodes are charged to a high voltage above 4.0 V ( vs. Na + /Na). However, this is realized at the sacrifice of their electrochemical redox centers and output capacities. To achieve both high voltage tolerance and capacity, we herein propose a cooperative Al cation and F anion co-doping strategy. The XANES detections affirm that substituting Ni/O with Al/F intends to augment the amount of highly active Mn 3+ cations in cathodes, making more contributions on specific capacities for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Besides, this co-doping treatment would disorder the transition metal ionic arrangements of cathodes, disrupting long-range Jahn-Teller effects and impeding other undesired phases generation. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, our designed Na 2/3 Ni 0.23 Al 0.1 Mn 2/3 O 1.95 F 0.05 (NAF) cathodes show a delivered capacity as high as 142.0 mAh g −1 (0.2C), and an impressive capacity retention of 86.7 % after all cycling. The in-situ XRD detections reveal no apparent O2 phase peaks emerge until 4.23 V upon deep Na + extraction from NAF. This work provides a key understanding toward cation/anion co-doping effects, opening up a useful avenue for rational design of practical P2-type cathodes for SIBs.

Developing robust fuel electrodes with high catalytic activity and stability under CO/CO 2 atmospheres is critical for reversible solid oxide fuel cells (RSOFCs). Here, we report a novel A-site-deficient perovskite Sr 1.95 Fe 1.5 Mo 0.3 Ni 0.2 F 0.1 O 6-δ (SFMNF) synthesized via electrospinning, combining Ni 2+ (B-site cation) and F - (anion) co-doping to enhance CO 2 electrolysis and syngas oxidation performance. Physicochemical characterization reveals that F-doping lowers the crystallization temperature, increases oxygen vacancy concentration, and strengthens CO 2 chemisorption. Reduction under H 2 induces exsolution of Ni 3 Fe alloy nanoparticles. The SFMNF electrode achieves a current density of 233 mA cm -2 at 1.3 V and 750°C in CO:CO 2 =2:1 atmosphere, with 36.2% higher activity than the pre-reduced state. Electrochemical impedance and distribution of relaxation time analyses identify CO 2 adsorption/dissociation as the rate-limiting step. The cell demonstrates exceptional durability over 50 redox cycles and 85-hour of operation without carbon deposition. This work highlights dual doping as an effective strategy to tailor perovskite properties for efficient CO 2 utilization in RSOFCs.

Nonmetals doping are effective for adjusting the electronic and molecular structures of C 3 N 4 nanosheets (CN), which could broaden the range of visible light response and improve the photo-induced electron-hole separation. Here a series of nonmetals (S, P, F and Br) doped C 3 N 4 nanosheets (x-CN) decorated with boron doped C 3 N 4 nanodots (BCNDs) was prepared for the first time. Compared with the pristine nonmetals doped CN, the integrating of BCNDs with x-CN can effectively facilitates the charge separation and transfer in the photocatalytic process, and endows enhanced photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production. The maximum photocatalytic hydrogen production rate of the BCNDs/S-CN, BCNDs/P-CN, BCNDs/F-CN and BCNDs/Br-CN composite can reach 3924.81 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , 2387.62 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , 2374.06 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 and 3471.56 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 respectively, which is about 3.3, 4.3, 4.0 and 3.1 times that of their counterparts, respectively. This work demonstrates that BCNDs plays an important role to improve the photocatalytic properties by forming 0D/2D isotype heterojunction with nonmetals doped C 3 N 4 nanosheets and provides new members for heterojunction photocatalysts, which is conductive to further fundamental and applied research.
