Direct Transformation of Carbon Dioxide to Value-Added Hydrocarbons by Physical Mixtures of Fe5C2 and K-Modified Al2O3

Junhui Liu,Anfeng Zhang,Xiao Jiang,Min Liu,Jie Zhu,Chunshan Song,Xinwen Guo

Conversion of CO2 by hydrogenation into higher hydrocarbons has attracted much attention due to the continuous increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. Fe5C2 was used as the active site and mixed with K-modified supports for CO2 hydrogenation to synthesize value-added hydrocarbons. A series of supports were tested, and the alkaline Al2O3 was the best choice for light olefins and C5+ hydrocarbons. The transformation of product selectivity at time on stream demonstrated that potassium migrated into Fe5C2 during reaction. The selectivity of C2+ is 69.2% containing 35.8% C2–C4= and 29.1% C5+ value-added hydrocarbons with the 31.5% CO2 conversion (H2/CO2 = 3). When the ratio of H2 and CO2 was switched to 4, CO2 conversion improved to 40.9%, and the C2+ selectivity to 73.5%, containing 37.3% C2–C4= and 31.1% C5+ value-added hydrocarbons. The mixture catalysts can be directly used without any reduction before reaction, reducing the consumption H2 and simplifying the operation.

A2BBi2(PO4)2(P2O7) (A = K, Rb, B = Pb, Cd): the Effect of Cation Sizes on Structural Evolution

Lu Qi,Zhaohui Chen,Lu Li,Qun Jing,Na Li,Zhongqi Jiang,Xiaoyu Dong,Ming-Hsien Lee

Two homologous new mixed-metal phosphates K 2 PbBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) ( I ) and Rb 2 CdBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) ( II ) were successfully synthesized in A 2 BBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) (A = K, Rb, B = Pb, Cd) system through the traditional high-temperature solid-phase method. The single crystal structures of the two compounds are shown to be the unique three-dimensional (3D) framework composed of different types of layers, but not isomorphic. We compared series compounds A 2 PbBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) (A = K, Rb, Cs), which are isomorphic and crystallize in the same space group Pnma . It is noteworthy that they are distinct different in degree of structural disorder, which is tuned by A-site cations. The effect of A-site cations is recognized by analyzing the disorder degree in three related structures and other available 182 mixed-metal phosphates. To the best of our knowledge, such structural analysis is rarely reported in inorganic phosphates and the cation modulation strategy can be used to guide structural disorder according to the difference-value (D-value) of cation radii. Furthermore, the syntheses, thermal analysis, relevant spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculations for I and II compounds were also discussed. Graphical Two new mixed-metal phosphates K 2 PbBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) and Rb 2 CdBi 2 (PO 4 ) 2 (P 2 O 7 ) were firstly reported and the cation size effect has substantial influence on the crystal structural disorder combining with the title compounds and 182 phosphates.

Epoxy-based high-k composites with low dielectric loss caused by reactive core-shell-structured carbon nanotube hybrids

Hongfeng Tang,Guang-Xin Chen,Qifang Li

Polymer composites with a high dielectric constant (high-k) and low dielectric loss represent an important research topic for the rapid development of electronic industries. This paper reports on a type of high-k composite with low dielectric loss (dielectric constant is approximately 152, and dielectric loss is only 0.06 at 10   kHz) through a compounded epoxy resin with homemade core-shell-structured carbon nanotube (CNT) hybrids. The composite is prepared by in situ controlled free-radical copolymerization of divinylbenzene and glycidyl methacrylate on the surface of CNTs. The reactive shell contained epoxy groups that play a dual role in keeping the low dielectric loss of the composites and high dispersibility of the coated CNTs. The coated CNTs with proper thickness (about 30   nm) and epoxy value (0.011   mol/g) were selected to prepare the composites.

Stereolithography based additive manufacturing of high-k polymer matrix composites facilitated by thermal plasma processed barium titanate microspheres

Wen-Dong Li,Chao Wang,Zhi-Hui Jiang,Lun-Jiang Chen,Yan-Hui Wei,Li-Yuan Zhang,Ming-Yu Chen,Xiong Yang,Guan-Jun Zhang

Stereolithography (SL) is a promising 3D printing method for the fabrication of high dielectric constant polymer matrix composites (high- k PMCs) because of its high geometric accuracy and few manufacturing defects. However, the presence of ceramic filler destroys the fluidity and transparency of high- k PMCs, reducing their 3D printability. In this study, we fabricated barium titanate microspheres (BT-S) to facilitate the SL-based 3D printing of high- k PMCs using radio-frequency thermal plasma spheroidization (RF-TPS) technology. Experimental results showed that the prepared BT-S particles have spherical shape, smooth surface, large particle size, improved mechanical strength and higher purity, which lead to the enhancement in the 3D printability of UV curable high- k composites: i) the employment of BT-S significantly reduces the apparent viscosity and yield stress; and ii) the UV curing depth increased by 542% maximum. As a result, high- k composites were successfully printed using digital light processing (DLP) technique under low UV light energy. Moreover, the increase of dielectric constant was experimentally verified, which is explained by electrostatic energy increment according to finite element method (FEM) simulations. This study provided an effective approach (i.e. RF-TPS technology) to enhance the 3D printability of high- k PMCs, and also promoted the usage of SL-based 3D printing in advanced electrical and electronic components

Synthesis, structure and characterization of new compounds HA5M6(OH)4F4(HPO4)8 (A = K, Rb; M = Fe, Ga)

Ningxia Li,Qi Luo,Meiyan Cui,Zhiying Zhao,Zhangzhen He

New fluorophosphate compounds H A 5 M 6 (OH) 4 F 4 (HPO 4 ) 8 ( A  = K, Rb; M  = Fe, Ga) were synthesized by a fluorine-rich hydrothermal method . These compounds crystallize in the monoclinic system with a P2 1 /n space group, exhibiting an open framework structure built by [PO 3 (OH)] groups, [MO 4 (OH)F], and [MO 4 F 2 ] octahedra, where ten-membered-ring channels, eight-membered-ring channels, six-membered-ring channels, and the linear M 3+ trimers are seen. The characterizations were carried out by powder XRD , EDS , FT-IR spectra, and magnetic measurements. The results confirmed that H A 5 Fe 6 (OH) 4 F 4 (HPO 4 ) 8 ( A  = K, Rb) show a quite similar magnetic behavior, possessing an antiferromagnetic ordering at 14.7 K and 15.6 K, respectively. The changes of the magnetic entropy for such antiferromagnetic orderings can be estimated as ∼10.7 J mol −1  K −1 and ∼13.4 J mol −1  K −1 .

K+ and Ce3+ co-doped Ba2.96P4O13:0.04Eu2+ white light emitting phosphor: Crystal phase transformation analysis and luminescence properties

Cuiping He,Chang Liu,Jingxing Cao,Jixin Sun,Yuning Zhang,Jie Liu,Zhanchao Wu

In this work, a tunable white light-emitting Ba 2.96–2 x K x Ce x P 4 O 13 :0.04Eu 2+ ( x = 0.00–0.16) phosphor was synthesized via solid-state reactions. The phosphor phase selection depends on Ce 3+ doping concentration in Ba 3 P 4 O 13 host. Under 340 nm excitation, Ba 2.96 P 4 O 13 :0.04Eu 2+ phosphor exhibits a broad asymmetric cyan emission centered around 450 nm in the absence of Ce 3+ doping‌. However, when Ce 3+ ions are introduced, the emission spectrum of Ba 2.96 P 4 O 13 :0.04Eu 2+ phosphor becomes broader and the maximum emission peak shifts to 550 nm. This phenomenon is attributed to the phase transition of Ba 2.96 P 4 O 13 :0.04Eu 2+ from low-temperature phase to high-temperature phase. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements reveal that low-temperature phase phosphors exhibit superior thermal stability compared to high-temperature phase phosphors. Eventually, a white light-emitting diode device was fabricated by combining the Ba 2.64 Ce 0.16 K 0.16 P 4 O 13 :0.04Eu 2+ phosphors with 365 nm light-emitting diode (LED) chip, which exhibits a high color rendering index of 91.61 and a low correlated color temperature of 4230 K. As reported, white-emitting Eu 2+ and Ce 3+ co-doped phosphors have potential applications in solid-state lighting. The crystal-phase engineering approach provides a guide for optimizing and designing novel single composition white-emitting phosphor materials.

Acesulfame K and p-arsanilic acid impair rice seed germination and seedling growth: A bitter-sweetener, perilous symphony

Yongjiong Ni,Keyi Xu,Liqin Zhong,Suleiman Shemsa Khalfan,Kejin Zhou,Jing Deng,Xiaoyan Ma,Stefanos Giannakis,Daniel L. Gallagher,Andrea M. Dietrich

The widespread use of additives introduces emerging contaminants, including acesulfame (ACE) and p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA), into agricultural systems, where their co-occurrence may affect crop development. This study investigated the individual and combined effects of ACE and p-ASA on rice during early growth. Rice seeds were exposed under controlled conditions to ACE (0.5–50 μM) and p-ASA (10 μM), either individually or in combination. Germination was assessed after 4 and 7 d, whereas biomass and physiological and biochemical responses, including α-amylase, β-amylase, soluble protein, superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and malondialdehyde (MDA), were evaluated after 14 d. After 4 d, ACE alone caused small, non-significant reductions in germination, whereas only the highest combined exposure (50 μM ACE + 10 μM p-ASA) significantly reduced germination relative to the control. After 7 d, germination rates ranged from 97.22 ± 3.90% to 99.44 ± 1.36%, with no significant differences among treatments, indicating that the initial co-exposure effect was transient. In contrast, seedling biomass was inhibited by up to 22.05% after 14 d, with inhibition increasing with ACE concentration. ACE alone generally increased enzyme activities and MDA levels while reducing soluble protein content. Co-exposure to p-ASA reduced α-amylase, β-amylase, and POD activities below control levels while increasing SOD activity and MDA accumulation. A higher-than-additive increase in MDA was observed only at the highest combined exposure, indicating enhanced lipid peroxidation, whereas lower ACE concentrations produced additive effects. Overall, ACE and p-ASA had limited and transient effects on germination but impaired seedling growth and altered enzymatic and oxidative-stress responses. These findings demonstrate that the effects of contaminant mixtures are strongly concentration dependent and cannot be inferred solely from the responses to the individual compounds.

Glutathione-Triggered Unleashing of Protease K Prodrug Suppressed Primary Tumors and Its Metastasis with Stimulated Anti-tumor Immunity

Xiaolan Yin,Cheng Zhang,Junshuai Cui,Lili Chen,Hongyan Cui,Liuwei Zhang,Sheng Lin,Yan Zhao,Ming Zhang,Haidong Li,Jingyun Wang,Qixian Chen

Protein therapeutics have garnered significant enthusiasm for oncological applications, owing to their exquisite specificity and intrinsic bioactivity. Yet, proteins remain constrained by limited transcellular permeability and proteolytic susceptibility during delivery. To circumvent these impediments, we engineered a redox-responsive protein prodrug, RP-ss-PK, via covalent conjugation of cytotoxic proteinase K (PK) to a multifunctional polymer, RGD-PEG-ss-NPC. This linear hetero-difunctional PEG scaffold contains a cyclic RGD peptide at the α-terminus for integrin-mediated tumor targeting and a 4-nitrophenyl ethyl carbonate (NPC) group at the ω-terminus for site-specific conjugation to amine-rich lysine residues on PK. An internal disulfide linker (–ss–) renders the prodrug cleavable in the presence of intracellular glutathione (GSH). Upon systemic administration, RP-ss-PK selectively accumulates within neoplastic lesions via RGD−integrin (αvβ3/αvβ5) recognition. Endocytosis exposes the disulfide tether to the cytosolic glutathione milieu, triggering reductive cleavage and subsequent liberation of native, fully active PK. The unleashed protease initiates indiscriminate proteolysis that precipitates rapid tumor cell death, accompanied by plasma-membrane permeabilization. This membrane disruption facilitates the extracellular release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), thereby igniting anti-tumor immunity and remodeling the tumor microenvironment. Collectively, this prodrug paradigm not only amplifies the tumor-selective delivery of protein therapeutics but also exemplifies a facile, broadly applicable strategy for intracellular activation and functional restoration of protein cargos. Our findings establish RP-ss-PK as a versatile platform poised for the targeted protein treatment of diverse pathologies.

A significantly enhanced Cu+/Cu0 catalytic active structure via the electronic effect of K for methyl glycolate synthesis

Xiaoxiao Zheng,Jiaming Wang,Peipei Lei,Qihong Xue,Xian Kan,Jiangang Chen

An enhanced Cu + /Cu 0 catalytic structure via the electronic effect of K was fabricated; • The proper amount of K could regulate the ratio of Cu + /Cu 0 and promote Cu dispersion; • Both the enhanced Cu + /Cu 0 ratio and the smaller Cu size promote the generation of MG; • The increased basic sites by the K doping remarkably increase the ethers by-products; • The deactivation was caused by the boosted Cu + ratio and the coated active sites by K. In this work, the CuZr 2 catalysts with significantly enhanced Cu + /Cu 0 catalytic active structures via the electronic effect of K were synthesized by the means of citrate complexation and used for dimethyl oxalate (DMO) hydrogenation to methyl glycolate (MG). The CuZr 2 –1.0 K sample exhibited the most outstanding performance, achieving a DMO conversion of 93.4% and MG selectivity of 85.8%. And the role of K in Cu-based catalysts for DMO hydrogenation is universal. The reduction of the catalyst was inhibited after potassium addition, lowering the Cu 0 content, thus leading to a decrease in the H 2 adsorption capacity of the catalyst, and accordingly, its activity decreased. The results showed that the ratio of Cu + /Cu 0 increased after K doping, and the adsorption strength of the catalyst for H 2 was weakened, which inhibited the deep hydrogenation of DMO. Simultaneously, the smaller size of metallic Cu via the appropriate amount of K doping facilitated the desorption of MG. Therefore, the selectivity for the target product MG was remarkably improved. However, the basic sites on the catalyst surface could increase after K doping, which would lead to an increase in the ether by-products. As the reaction proceeded, the ability of the catalyst to adsorb and activate H 2 was diminished due to the significantly increased surface K content and Cu + ratio, leading to the deactivation of the K-doped catalyst. This study provides a potential pathway for alkali metals to regulate the electronic structure of Cu-based catalysts and apply them to the hydrogenation of DMO to MG. Simultaneously achieving superior piezoelectric properties and good piezoelectric thermal stabilities in <001>-textured (K,Na)NbO3-based ceramic

Fengyun Liu,Jialiang Zhang,Lu Li

(K,Na)NbO₃-based ceramics are widely regarded as a promising type of lead-free piezoelectric materials to replace the current lead-containing ones. However, due to polymorphic phase transitions, achieving a desirable comprehensive piezoelectric performance of high piezoelectric coefficient d ₃₃ and large electromechanical coupling factors k p , k t and k 33 along with good thermal stabilities (which are characterized by minimal temperature dependence and ageing degradation) in them is extremely challenging. The poled and subsequently thermally-stabilized <001>-textured 0.98(K₀.₄₈Na₀.₅₂)₀.₉₉Li₀.₀₁(Nb₀.₉₈Sb₀.₀₂)O₃–0.02(Bi₀.₅₀Na₀.₅₀)ZrO₃ ceramic was recently identified as an effective solution to the issue. It possesses a d ₃₃ of 405 pC/N along with k ₚ ≈ 0.80, k ₜ ≈ 0.60, k ₃₃ ≈ 0.88 at room temperature, and its piezoelectric properties are of weak temperature dependence across a broad operational range and show remarkable retention even after thermal ageing at 250 °C. Particularly, its d ₃₃ has an average of 425 pC/N with the variation ≤ ± 6.5% from room temperature to 100 °C, and its k ₜ keeps almost constant between -60 °C and 110 °C. In general, this ceramic exhibits an outstanding comprehensive performance that well competes to those of benchmark commercial piezoceramics such as PZT-5A and PZT-5H, indicating the great potential for advanced ultrasonic applications. Analysis reveals that the excellent piezoelectric properties originate from the synergistic effect of crystallographic anisotropy and an engineered, dense domain structure of orthorhombic phase. Meanwhile, the remarkable thermal ageing stability is possibly attributed to the relaxed crystal structure and the stabilized domain structure, both facilitated by the repeated orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transitions in the thermal treatment.

Bi3+/K+ synergistic pillar effect unleashes high initial coulombic efficiency and potassium-storage kinetics in titanium-based anodes

Jingxian Yu,Yiye Tan,Hongyan Li

Bi 3+ /K + co-doping act as “dual pillars” to stabilize the layered structure. • Intercalated Bi 3+ increase the KTO interlayer spacing and stabilize the lattice. • Initial coulombic efficiency of Bi-KTO far exceeds that of other Ti-based materials. • K + /Bi 3+ synergy enhances potassium storage and cycling stability. Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are increasingly recognized as an important candidate for next-generation energy storage technology attributed to the advantages of sufficient potassium reserves, suitable redox potential, and environmental friendliness. The research of high-performance anode materials represents an essential factor in the development of PIBs. Among these, titanium (Ti)-based materials, known for their structural stability and environmental friendliness, face challenges including limited capacity and slow kinetics. To address these issues, in this work, we propose a synergistic “dual pillars” strategy that incorporates K + pre-intercalation and Bi 3+ doping into Ti-based materials, thereby enhancing their potassium storage performance. K + stabilizes the layered framework, while Bi 3+ further expands the interlayer spacing and optimizes the electronic structure, significantly improving both structural stability and ion diffusion kinetics. The Bi-KTO has a capacity reaching 106.2 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 and maintains 63 mAh g −1 after over 1500 cycles under 0.2 A g −1 . In particular, the initial coulombic efficiency of Bi-KTO is relatively high compared with other reported KTO-based anodes. At 0.2 A g −1 , the full cell retained 32.5 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles, surpassing most reported KTO-based anode for PIBs. These findings provide valuable insights for future in-depth investigations about KTO-based materials. Download: Download high-res image (340KB) Download: Download full-size image

Silica-based functionalized glass micropore enabling K+ / Mg2+ sieving through the synergistic effect of crown ethers and EDTA

Duoshuang Xu,Jiacheng Dong,Yanhua Rao,Yongteng Long,Yanan Bie,Nannan Liu,Xingxing Tang

Development of a K + / Mg 2+ device : Silica nanowires were co‑functionalized with CB18C6 and EDTA to fabricate a CB18C6&EDTA/SiNWs/GMP ion selective device. • Improvement in selectivity : The synergistic effect of CB18C6 and EDTA greatly enhances K⁺/Mg²⁺ selectivity up to 331.16 compared with single ligand device. • K + Preferred Conductance : The fabricated device displays preferential K⁺ conductance in KCl and MgCl₂ mixed solution against varying Mg²⁺ concentrations. • Device Stability : The device keeps stable K⁺/Mg²⁺ selectivity under diverse ion concentrations and after long term storage. • Practical applicability : The K⁺/Mg²⁺ selectivity of the device is well maintained under simulated human body pH conditions. Biomimetic ion channels have attracted extensive attention for ion separation applications owing to their nanoscale or even sub-nanoscale confined structures, as well as the ease of surface functionalization. K + and Mg 2+ are indispensable biological ions involved in a wide range of physiological processes necessary for normal life activities. Due to the similar hydrated ionic radius and high water solubility of K + and Mg 2+ , it remains difficult to separate these ions using conventional materials. To address this challenge, herein we report a functionalized glass micropore (GMP) in which silica nanowires (SiNWs) were introduced into the GMP to serve as a supporting framework, followed by functionalization of the SiNWs with 4′-Carboxybenzo-18-crown-6 (CB18C6) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The constructed functionalized GMP takes advantage of the excellent size matching between the cavity of CB18C6 and the radius of K + , together with the chelation effect of EDTA toward Mg 2+ . Through the synergistic effect of these two functional molecules, highly efficient ion sieving was achieved. Under the same solution volume conditions, the optimal selectivity was obtained when the mass ratio of CB18C6 to EDTA was 4:1, with the selectivities of K + / Na + , K + / Mg 2+ , and K + / Ca 2+ reaching 1.51, 331.16, and 98.16, respectively. The proposed functionalised GMP recognises K + based on the properties of the functional molecules, exhibiting excellent ion sieving performance between target ions and competing ions. This work provides a new research strategy for precise K + / Mg 2+ separation technology.
