Atomic sites co-catalyst (ASC) on photocatalytic materials possesses an attractive prospect to promote charge carrier separation and tune surface reaction kinetics, yet the synthesis of earth-abundant ASC under low temperature remains a great challenge. Here, a novel in-situ NH 4 + -etched strategy to anchor atomic Mo sites on ZnIn 2 S 4 hierarchical nanotubes (HNTs) with abundant mesopores under mild conditions for promoting charge carrier separation and enhancing light multi-reflections is developed for efficient photocatalytic H 2 evolution. Density functional theory calculations and linear sweep voltammetry demonstrate that the well-defined Mo-S 2 O 1 sites with distinctive coordination configuration and electronic property contribute to the enhanced separation of photo-generated charge carriers and reduced Gibbs free energy for H 2 evolution. Consequently, the well-defined MoSA-ZIS HNTs present an excellent photocatalytic activity with a rate of 29.9 µmol h −1 (5.98 mmol g −1 h −1 ), which is 7.3 times higher than that of ZnIn 2 S 4 nanosheets (NSs), to be among the best ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts. The present strategy breaks the high-temperature limitation of conventional top-down thermal dissociation/emitting approach for anchoring non-noble metal atomic sites on catalyst support.

Exploring cost-effective and high-efficiency noble-metal free electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are of critical importance to the area of renewable energy storage and conversion systems. Herein, Ni–Fe–Mo films were fabricated via electrodeposition method with a very high current density. The film exhibits excellent activity towards OER with a overpotentials of 306 mV at current density of 10 mA·cm −2 and a lower Tafel slope of 77.1 mV·dec −1 under alkaline conditions (30 wt.% KOH). The synergistic effect of the Mo, Ni, and Fe contribute the improved catalytic activity for OER.

Herein, we reported the design and fabrication of polyoxometalates coupling metal-organic framework (POM@MOF) hybrids derived hierarchical hollow Mo/Co bimetal oxides nanocages (Mo/Co HHBONs) for the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade levofloxacin (Lev). The Mo/Co HHBONs are hollow nanocages with high specific-surface areas and hierarchical micropores, mesopores , and macropores . In addition to compositional modulation, polyoxometalate (H 3 PMo 12 O 40 ·nH 2 O) exhibited striking effect on the textural properties of Mo/Co HHBONs. The Mo/Co HHBONs had outstanding catalytic activity with first order-kinetics that were 6 − 10 times higher those previously reported. They exhibited good adaptability over a pH range of 3 − 11, as well as excellent universality and reusability. By altering the surface porosity, electronic structure, and oxygen vacancies of Co 3 O 4 , hetero-metal Mo doping induced Mo/Co HHBONs significantly promote the generation of reactive oxygen species , including • OH, SO 4 •− , O 2 •− , and 1 O 2 . Density functional theory indicated that Mo/Co HHBONs had better adsorption, enhanced electron-transfer abilities, and a longer O-O bond length than did Co 3 O 4 , for improved catalytic reactivity. This research provides a new strategy to design the POM@MOF hybrids derived hierarchical hollow nanocages with highly PMS activating capacity for the removal of antibiotics and other refractory contaminants.

Water electrolysis in alkaline electrolyte is a promising technology for large-scale hydrogen production . However, the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is quite sluggish in alkaline electrolyte. Developing highly active and stable non-noble metal electrocatalysts is highly desired to solve this issue but of great challenge. Here, we report a catalyst constructed by Ni–Mo–N nanoparticles decorated on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (Ni–Mo–N/NG). Due to the high intrinsic electrocatalytic activity of heterostructured Ni–Mo–N nanoparticles and synergistic effects between the nanoparticles and graphene, the catalyst exhibits excellent HER electrocatalytic activity with zero onset potential and 46.6 and 159.8 mV overpotentials for 10 and 100 mA cm −2 , respectively, in alkaline electrolyte at low mass loading. Such electrocatalytic performances exceed those of many reported non-noble metal catalysts even with much higher mass loading, demonstrating the great potential of our Ni–Mo–N/NG catalysts for hydrogen production by water electrolysis.

To investigate the influence of Mo addition and water vapor content on the high-temperature corrosion resistance of Ni-Al-based coatings, 0Mo, 5Mo, and 10Mo coatings were deposited by APS thermal spray onto stainless steels. The chlorine-induced corrosion test was conducted in an experimental environment simulating a biomass boiler. The results show that adding the Mo element lowers the coating's ability to resist corrosion without water vapor. The coating is more prone to peeling because Mo prevents the coating from eventually forming a protective oxide layer. Water vapor significantly speeds up the production of oxides and modifies their morphology and structure. The combined effects of Mo and water vapor increase the coating's ability to resist corrosion. The development of thick and protective Ni and Al oxide layers on the coated surface is aided by the acceleration of oxide production by water vapor and the alteration of oxide structure by Mo components.

The pursuit of cost-effective catalysts for electrocatalytic overall water splitting continues to present a significant challenge in the field. A molybdenum (Mo)-regulated Co 9 Se 8 /FeNiSe self-supporting electrode material with rich vacancy defects has been prepared by hydrothermal reaction. Doping of Mo atoms not only can form rich selenium vacancy defects to enrich the inherent activity of the catalyst, but also expose more active sites. The intrinsic electronic architecture of the interface catalysis is regulated and optimized through the introduction of heteroatom Mo, resulting in the exceptional catalytic activities of the Mo-Co 9 Se 8 /FeNiSe heterostructure. Additionally, the Faraday efficiency of hydrogen (H 2 ) and oxygen (O 2 ) production approaches 100 %. The voltage required for the water-splitting system is only 1.58 V (10 mA cm −2 ), and 100 h stability test at 100 mA cm −2 demonstrates no decay. This work presents a new perspective for the reasonable design and synthesis of non-precious metal selenide-based bifunctional electrocatalysts.

The influences of different parameters, such as reaction temperature, yttrium (Y) content, and H 2 concentration, on the particle size and morphological structure of Mo powder prepared via the H 2 reduction of MoO 2 , were investigated in the work. TG, XRD , FE-SEM, laser particle size analysis , model fitting, and orthogonal design experiment methods were adopted to analyze the reaction kinetic and reduction mechanism. The results showed that the optimum conditions for preparing ultrafine Mo powder were recognized as 1073 K, 1 mass% Y content, and a H 2 concentration of 0.000576 mol·cm −2 ·min −1 , which enabled the as-prepared Mo powder with a particle size as small as 107 nm. A new interfacial chemical reaction model with the consideration of reaction temperature, H 2 concentration, and sample thickness, was proposed to analyze the reaction kinetic. It was found that the curves predicted by the model agreed well with the experimental data, with the apparent activation energy extracted to be 94.686 kJ/mol. The effect of different individual parameter on the reaction rate and the possible reduction mechanism were also elucidated.

Developing the robust non-precious metal bifunctional electrocatalyst is highly imperative for the hydrogen evolution from overall water splitting. Herein, a Ni foam (NF)-supported ternary Ni/Mo bimetallic complex (Ni/Mo-TEC@NF), hierarchically constructed by coupling the in-situ formed MoNi 4 alloys and Ni 2 Mo 3 O 8 with Ni 3 Mo 3 C on NF, has been developed through a facile method involving the in-situ hydrothermal growth of the Ni-Mo oxides/polydopamine (NiMoO x /PDA) complex on NF and a subsequent annealing in a reduction atmosphere. Synchronously, N and P atoms are co-doped into Ni/Mo-TEC during the annealing procedure using phosphomolybdic acid and PDA raw materials as P and N sources, respectively. The resultant N, P-Ni/Mo-TEC@NF shows outstanding electrocatalytic activities and tremendous stability for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), due to the multiple heterojunction effect-promoted electron transfer , the large number of exposed active sites, and the modulated electronic structure by the N and P co-doping. It only needs a low overpotential of 22 mV to afford the current density of 10 mA·cm −2 for HER in alkaline electrolyte . More importantly, as the anode and cathode, it requires only 1.59 and 1.65 V to achieve 50 and 100 mA·cm −2 for overall water splitting, respectively, comparable to the benchmark Pt/C@NF//RuO 2 @NF couple. This work could spur the search for economical and efficient electrodes by in situ constructing multiple bimetallic components on 3D conductive substrates for practical hydrogen generation.

Dispersed metal sulfides are promising catalysts for the hydroconversion of biolipids to produce second-generation biodiesel. In this work, oil-soluble Mo-based ionic liquids (ILs) were innovatively utilized as the precursors for in situ generation of MoS 2 catalysts for the hydroconversion of biolipids. Taking methyl palmitate as the model compound, the excellent activity of in situ generated MoS 2 from ionic liquid Mo-based precursors was obtained. The turnover frequencies (TOFs) reached up to 1.6 × 10 2 h −1 for methyl palmitate conversion and 83 h −1 for hexadecane (C 16 ) yield at 320 °C and 0.5 h (42% conversion) under solvent-dilute conditions. The structures of in situ generated MoS 2 catalysts were characterized to provide explanations for the catalytic results. Based on the product distributions, the pathway of methyl palmitate hydroconversion was proposed, and the kinetics of methyl palmitate hydroconversion was analyzed in further detail. Applying the Mo-based ILs in the hydroconversion of methyl palmitate and palm oil under solvent-free condition also granted high conversions of feeds and selectivities of HDO products.

Preparing high-performance electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER)s with high durability for seawater electrolysis is of great significance. Herein, reported a one-step solution-immersion synthesis strategy to prepare a (Ni/Fe/Mo)OOH catalyst on a nickel foam substrate that can be accomplished in 5 min under ambient temperature and pressure. The unique cluster morphology of the catalyst on the surface of electrodes effectively increases the number of active sites, and the presence of Mo, Ni, and Fe in the catalyst enhances the activity of the OER. In the electrolyte solution (1 mol/L NaOH), the electrode exhibited low OER overpotentials of 265 mV, 286 mV, and 332 mV at currents of 100 mA·cm−2, 400 mA·cm−2, and 1000 mA·cm−2, respectively. This electrode also demonstrated excellent performance in seawater splitting, and the overpotentials at currents of 100 mA·cm−2, 400 mA·cm−2, and 1000 mA·cm−2in alkaline seawater environments were 330 mV, 416 mV, and 514 mV, respectively. In the 72 h durability test, the voltage increase was within 10 mV, exhibiting the excellent durability of the (Ni/Fe/Mo)OOH electrocatalyst. Therefore, the electrode developed here shows potential in the application of seawater electrolysis for hydrogen generation. Keywords:oxygen evolution reaction;(Ni/Fe/Mo)OOH catalyst;ultrafast and facile synthesis;alkaline seawater electrolysis

MOF-derived phosphide on nickel foam has been successfully synthesized (Mo–Ni2P@NiO/NC/NF), and has been used as a bifunctional catalyst for both the HER at the cathode and the UOR at the anode for urea–water electrolysis. Mo–Ni2P@NiO/NC/NF was used as the electrode to form a Mo–Ni2P@NiO/NC/NF‖Mo–Ni2P@NiO/NC/NF electrolysis cell, which showed a low voltage (1.496 V) for the UOR&HER at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. Moreover, the electrocatalytic performance and morphology of Mo–Ni2P@NiO/NC/NF are not changed in a long-term test, indicating that it has high activity and good stability. This study shows an efficient way to synthesize a promising bifunctional catalyst by developing MOF-derived phosphides on nickel foam.

The high-temperature corrosion behavior of an AlN/Mo functionally graded material (FGM) under the Li/LiF-LiCl-LiBr vapor has been investigated. It is suggested that the Li vapor diffuses along the AlN and AlN/Mo grain boundaries and enters the interior of adjacent AlN grains, leading to the disintegration of AlN grains and subsequent failures. The 3D Mo networks are barely corroded, thus preventing cracking that may occur due to the inconsistent deformation inside the FGM. This work unravels the high-temperature corrosion mechanisms for the AlN/Mo FGM. Meanwhile, the operating temperature threshold for the liquid metal batteries employing Mo/AlN/Mo seals is determined to be ∼ 600 °C.
