The flexible polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF)/6H–SiC composite films are fabricated to overcome the natural brittleness of hexagonal SiC. Yet the electrical output of the piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) based on the composite film needs to be further improved. Here, PENG and hybrid nanogenerator exploiting both triboelectric and piezoelectric effects (T-PENG) based on PVDF/6H–SiC composite films are assembled. The PENG based on the PVDF/15 wt% 6H–SiC composite film shows the open circuit voltage ( V oc ) of 16.81 V. The T-PENG achieves the bridge rectified voltage of 65.70 and 136.58 V when subjected to the external force of 1.1 and 4.9 N, indicating 3.91 and 7.39 times the output of the PENG under the same force, which is the highest value compared with the reported nanogenerators based on SiC and SiC composites. This work breaks through the limitation of low mechanical energy utilization efficiency of film-based PENG and provides a feasible way to enhance the electrical output of nano power sources.

There is an urgent need for an antifouling membrane to treat the large volume of dye-containing wastewater generated annually by the dyeing and printing industry. PDA@ZnO/PVDF membranes were synthesized by doping polydopamine (PDA) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles into the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes via non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method in which polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and lithium chloride (LiCl) were chosen as the porogens respectively. Their microstructures were characterized, and the membranes were examined for antifouling properties and membrane separation performance. The presence of PDA@ZnO nanoparticles on the PVDF membrane was evidenced by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurements. The addition of PDA@ZnO enhanced the mechanical strength and hydrophilicity of the nanocomposite membranes. The PVDF membranes' water permeability and antifouling properties improved following mixing modification, according to the dye filtration test. The pure water flux of PDA@ZnO/PVDF hybrid membranes changed from 260.0 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 to 1339.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 by varying the concentration of PDA@ZnO nanoparticles from 0 wt% to 1.6 wt%. The retention performance of the modified membranes was shown to be significantly superior to the pure PVDF membrane. The modified membranes with the addition of 2.0 wt% PVP and 1.6 wt% PDA@ZnO nanoparticles had highly disperse blue 79 (DB 79) retentions (88.5%), indicating that the modified membrane possessed the characteristics of a promising membrane for the purification of dye. Tests found that PDA@ZnO significantly improved the membrane's antifouling performance.

In this work, CoFe 2 O 4 (CFO)−PVDF catalytic membrane was fabricated by coupling CFO into PVDF membrane. It can activate peroxomonosulfate (PMS) to oxidize contaminants. Therefore, the catalytic membrane can realize filtration and catalytic oxidation of dyes simultaneously. The single rejection rate of the CFO 2 −PVDF membrane is about 70% and catalysis alone can remove 62.37% AR18 within 110 min. In comparison with filtration and catalytic oxidation separately, the removal rate of the catalytic membrane has a visible increase which can reach 100% within 70 min. The mechanism reveals that hydroxyl radical (·OH), sulfate radical (SO 4 · − ) and 1 O 2 nonradical played about 13% parts, 27% parts and 60% parts in catalytic oxidation of dyes, respectively. The mechanism includes both radical and nonradical oxidation. The catalytic membrane has a good application for different type of dyes. The removal rate can still maintain at 86% after reused for five times since the catalyst CFO can renew from Co 3+ to Co 2+ through self recovery. Furthermore, the results confirm that the catalytic membrane has a good anti-fouling ability and low metal ions leaching risk.

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are seen as the key component in the development of solid-state lithium batteries (SSLBs) by virtue of their good processability and flexibility. However, poor mechanical strength, low room-temperature lithium-ion (Li-ion) conductivity and unsatisfactory interfacial compatibility with electrodes limit their practical application. In this work, a composite electrolyte consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride and polyvinylidene carbonate with a Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12(LLZTO) active filler (PFPC: LLZTO-SPE) is reported to achieve excellent ionic conductivity (4.25 × 10−4S cm−1at 30 °C), a wide electrochemical window (>4.6 V), a high Li-ion transference number (tLi+= 0.49) and good interfacial compatibility with the electrode. Incorporating LLZTO as an active filler not only increases the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte, but also homogenizes Li-ion flux and stabilizes the electrode/electrolyte interface, thereby preventing lithium dendrites from piercing the electrolyte. As a result, Li/Li symmetrical cells using PFPC: LLZTO-SPEs deliver more than 800 h of cyclability at 0.1 mA cm−2and a high critical current density (CCD) of 2.6 mA cm−2. The assembled Li/PFPC: LLZTO/LFP SSLBs achieve 87% capacity retention after 150 cycles at 0.2 C and 89% capacity retention for 100 cycles at 0.5 C. This work inspires new insights into designing high-performance SPEs.Keywords:LLZTO;in-situ polymerization;solid polymer electrolytes;solid-state lithium batteries

Membrane technology greatly boosts the quick collection process of clean-water from oily wastewater. Although a great amount of research has been devoted to fabricating super wetting membranes to efficiently separate waste oil/water mixtures, the environmental friendliness of the membrane and the durable separation performance of the membrane have still obstructed the development of this field. Preparing a kind of membrane with environmental friendliness and excellent antifouling properties is therefore necessary. Herein, a kind of underwater superoleophobic polyethylene glycol (PEG) grafted polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane (PPG membrane) was fabricated through a simple, environmentally friendly and energy-saving surface grafting method by activating PVDF membrane with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and then grafting PEG on its surface. The PPG membrane could efficiently separate various kinds of oil-in-water emulsions even including high-viscosity crude oil, and a separation efficiency up to 99.6% as well as a permeation flux of 1130 L m−2 h−1 are reached. Moreover, the as-prepared PPG membrane displayed excellent mechanical and chemical stabilities after the mechanical test (100 times of abrasion) and chemical test (soaking in 1 M HCl, and 1 M NaOH and 3.5 wt% NaCl solutions for 12 h). As a result, the various advantages of the PPG membrane laid a solid foundation for oily wastewater applications in real-world environments.

An electroactive bismuth oxybromide/polyvinylidene difluoride/carbon black(BiOBr/PVDF/CB) composite film electrode was fabricated that had a bromide ion trap (Br–-trap) effect obtained by prereleasing of Br– under reduction potential. The Br–-trap BiOBr/PVDF/CB film electrode was used for the selective extraction of Br– from salt lake brine by electrochemically switched ion exchange (ESIX) technology. Moreover, an industrially scalable ESIX pilot system was designed and the effects of different process parameters were investigated. In the ESIX system, the obtained film electrode exhibited efficient adsorption quantity, and remarkable selectivity owing to its special ion trap effect. The extraction capacity of Br– reached 67.10 mg g–1 with the separation factors of 2.06 and 7.13 for Br–/Cl– and Br–/NO3–, respectively, and the desorption efficiency of the film electrode remained at 95.4% after seven repeated cycles. It manifested that the pilot system with the Br–-trap BiOBr/PVDF/CB film electrode is expected to provide a novel direction for practical industrial Br– extraction.

Polyvinylidene fluoride membranes (PVDFMs) are frequently used in oil-water separation due to their stable properties, high porosity, and modification easily. However, the pollution, low separation efficiency, and low recovery rate of PVDFMs have limited the oil sewage treatment. This work is based on dopamine-modified PVDFMs, which prepared hydrophilic separation membranes by attaching hydroxymethylated lignin (HAL) to PVDFMs. Lignin was hydroxymethylated to improve its hydrophilicity. Additionally, HAL was assembled on the surface of PVDFMs with the effect of dopamine (DA) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550). The effect of the ratio of DA and KH550 (D: K) and HAL concentration on the hydrophilic effect was explored. The modified membranes exhibited considerable separation efficiency (>99 %) for several kinds of oil-water emulsions and could be recycled multiple times. This green modification method using lignin provides an environmentally friendly solution for modifying PVDFMs.

Membrane technology can realize wastewater recycling in industry, but its efficiency is threatened by fouling. In this study, magnetic palygorskite (m-Pal) nanofibers were obtained by anchoring Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles onto the surface of palygorskite . Then, composite membranes composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and m-Pal were prepared during a magnetic field assisted phase inversion process. The m-Pal can be elevated to the membrane surface due to magnetic force, thus adjusting membrane performance . The PVDF/m-Pal composite membrane prepared with magnetic field displayed higher water flux and better hydrophilicity than that of pristine PVDF membrane. The water flux can be increased to 343.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , and water contact angle decreases to 71.8° with the addition of 7% m-Pal. Moreover, the anti-fouling and easy-cleaning performance of the composite membrane was demonstrated in bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution separation, with BSA flux and flux recovery ratio increased by 41.3% and 155.4%, respectively, compared with the control PVDF membrane.

In this paper, GO-TiO 2 /PVDF composite ultrafiltration membranes were prepared for slightly polluted ground water treatment with high efficiency and low energy consumption. The TiO 2 nanoparticles solidly loaded on GO reduced the agglomeration between GO sheets, and the grafting of GO-TiO 2 nanocomposites by polyethylene glycol (PEG), partially grafted onto the surface of TiO 2 nanoparticles, prevented the agglomeration between TiO 2 nanoparticles. GO-TiO 2 was used as an additive to prepare GO-TiO 2 /PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane by non-solvent induced precipitation phase separation method, and the fouling resistance and hydrophilicity of the membrane were improved. The structure and morphology of the composite ultrafiltration membranes were characterized using FTIR, SEM and contact angle testers, and the water flux and fouling resistance of the composite ultrafiltration membranes were evaluated using the ultrafiltration method, and investigate the effectiveness of the composite ultrafiltration membranes in treating slightly polluted ground water. The 0.05% GO-TiO 2 /PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane has better hydrophilicity and fouling resistance, with a pure water flux of 280.3 L/(m 2 ·h), 2.1 times higher than that of the PVDF membrane. In an experiment using GO-TiO 2 /PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane to filter campus lake water, the removal rates of COD , DOC and aromatic compounds (UV 254 ) were increased by 15.8%, 54.2% and 55.4% respectively compared to using PVDF membrane, and the GO-TiO 2 /PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane has excellent filtration effect for slightly polluted ground water.

Membrane technologies offer great potential in desalination and wastewater treatment . However, the serious issue of membrane fouling results in the unsatisfactory sustainability and reusability for treating wastewater containing high level of organic foulants. In this work, a photocatalytic membrane reactor system combining Ag@BiOBr photocatalyst and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) ultrafiltration with remarkable anti-fouling property was constructed. The integrated Ag@BiOBr/PVDF photocatalytic ultrafiltration membranes were prepared by blending Ag@BiOBr nanoparticles (NPs) into PVDF membrane via phase inversion method. The membrane separation performance and fouling resistance were studied in a cross-flow ultrafiltration system using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as the model foulants. Compared with the pristine PVDF membrane, the hydrophilicity and surface smoothness of composite membranes were promoted by photocatalyst-incorporation, the Ag@BiOBr/PVDF membrane with the optimal Ag@BiOBr blending content of 2.0 wt% achieved both enhanced water flux and higher BSA rejection efficiency. More importantly, the mechanism of anti-fouling and self-cleaning performances were further studied, the photocatalysis process based on Ag@BiOBr/PVDF membrane effectively decomposed the BSA foulant into broken protein with induced change of carbonyl, ionic bond and hydrogen bond contents in BSA foulants via the active radicals, weakened the intermolecular force of BSA foulants to prevent membrane pore blockage. Meanwhile, the broken protein peptide chains with more negative charges could result in the strength of electrostatic repulsive forces between BSA molecules and membrane. As a result, the BSA foulant could be stably removed in the Ag@BiOBr/PVDF photocatalytic ultrafiltration system under visible light irradiation, achieving the excellent anti-fouling performance by preventing the membrane pore blockage and foulant adhesion. We believe the Ag@BiOBr/PVDF photocatalytic membrane presented in this study will be one example among many photocatalyst-membrane combinations that can be further pursued for organic pollutants removal. In particular, we expect the theoretical support can present a great opportunity to design novel photocatalytic membranes with sustainable anti-fouling performance.

Flexible piezoelectric pressure sensors have a great application prospect in wearable electronic products due to the advantages of low cost, fast response speed and a self-powered system. However, traditional films based on piezoelectric ceramic/polymer materials face problems such as poor dispersion and insufficient polarization, which hinder the piezoelectric performance of pressure sensors. In this work, MXene was introduced to modify the surface of barium titanate (BaTiO3), which was blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) matrix. An electrospinning method was adapted to fabricate BaTiO3/MXene/PVDF-TrFE composite films. This work proposed a new microscopic sensing mechanism. In addition, this MXene-modification strategy could improve the dispersion of BaTiO3 into the PVDF-TrFE matrix, increase the polarization efficiency and enhance the piezoelectric performance of the sensors. The results showed that the composite film with 0.15 wt% MXene could achieve a remarkable output voltage of 7.6 V. In addition, the tensile strength of the composite film with 0.15 wt% MXene (20.8 MPa) was 77.8% higher than that without MXene (11.7 MPa). Meanwhile, the β phase content of the composite film could reach 81.04%, and the crystallinity increased from 39.49% to 50.31%. The fabricated piezoelectric pressure sensor had a wide detection range (0.2–400 kPa) and a short response time (56 ms). Besides, even after undergoing over 5000 compression cycles, it maintained a stable piezoelectric response. This pressure sensor could quickly respond to joint movements and strenuous exercises in humans. Therefore, this pressure sensor showed great advantages and potential in the application of human motion monitoring.

Hydrophobic nanofibers have attracted great attention in the membrane distillation (MD) process because of their extremely high specific surface area. In this study, hydrophobic nanofibrous composites for vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) consisting of a hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofibrous layer and a hydrophobic polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric (NWF) substrate were presented. PVDF nanofibrous layer was directly fabricated on the surface of PP NWF substrate by electrospinning technique. 1 H , 1 H , 2 H , 2 H -perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (FTES) functionalized GO nanosheets were incorporated in the PVDF nanofiber layer during the electrospinning process to enhance the hydrophobicity and permeation water flux for VMD. Membrane surface morphology and composition were characterized through SEM and FTIR. The effects of FTES-GO nanosheets content on the VMD desalination properties were investigated. And the transfer mechanism of water vapors through the FTES-GO incorporated nanofibrous layers was also proposed. Compared with the original PVDF nanofibrous layer, the surface hydrophobicity, liquid entry pressure ( LEP ) and water permeability of the FTES-GO incorporated nanofibrous layers had all been improved. When FTES-GO content was 4 wt%, the WCA increased from 104.0° for the neat PVDF nanofibrous layer to 140.5° for the modified nanofibrous layer. The permeation water flux reached a maximum value of 36.4 kg m −2 h −1 . It was two times the water flux of the original membrane and meanwhile the salt rejection remained above 99.9% (50 °C, 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solution and permeation pressure of 31.3 kPa). No obvious wetting phenomenon was observed for FTES-GO incorporated membrane during the continuous VMD experiment for 60 h.
