Abstract Lithium is a critical metal with a wide range of applications in energy, electronics, and chemical industry. Currently, the industrial method for Li metal extraction relies on electrolysis of molten LiCl and suffers from various safety, cost, and environmental issues. In this work, we report electrochemical extraction of Li from molten LiOH by using a liquid tin (Sn) cathode. The use of liquid Sn cathode offers various advantages, such as lowering the dissociation potential of LiOH and easy collection of the metallic Li. Electrochemical and materials characterization results reveal that a plunge of electrolysis current occurs in the electrolyser without using a porous alumina membrane, due to the formation of a Li 2 O passivation layer at the cathode/electrolyte interface. In the electrolyser with a porous alumina membrane, continuous electrolysis has been achieved, and the side surface of the liquid Sn is identified to be the effective interface for Li electrodeposition. In addition, we demonstrate the use of the Li–Sn product for the synthesis of acetylene (C 2 H 2 ), a widely used fuel and chemical feedstock. Graphical Abstract

ERB-1 zeolite emerges as a key bridging material for crafting heteroatom-containing MWW for versatile catalytic applications. In this study, we developed a solvent-free strategy facilitated by high-temperature condition and seed assistance, streamlining the synthesis of ERB-1 zeolite. This novel approach not only significantly reduces the growth time to 12 h compared to the conventional 168-h hydrothermal synthesis but also enhances product yield while minimizing waste generation. Benefiting from the platelet seeds and the grinding force, a distinct non-classical growth pathway, involving nanoparticle attachment, epitaxial growth, anisotropic assembly, and crystallization, was observed in the solvent-free synthesis. Through heteroatom substitution, pillared Sn-MWW was successfully prepared, exhibiting remarkable stability and catalytic performance in the Bayer-Villiger oxidation reaction of 2-adamantanone. Our findings present a simple and cost-effective way for rapid synthesis of MWW zeolite, with implications extending to diverse catalytic applications.

Preterm birth (<37 weeks) is a major global health challenge, and optimal nutrition is critical for reducing growth restriction, metabolic disorders, and impaired neurodevelopment. Human milk (HM) provides unique lipid structures, notably sn-2 palmitic acid-enriched triacylglycerols (TAGs), which promote efficient fat absorption and physiological development. However, most commercial preterm infant formulas (IFs) lack these structural features due to reliance on vegetable oils. This study compared lipidomic profiles of commercial IFs with preterm HM, focusing on fatty acid composition, sn-2 fatty acid distribution, TAG species, and phospholipids. A linear programming model was applied to coordinately optimize multiple lipid dimensions and design an optimized formula (DF), enriched in OPO and OPL, with higher sn-2 palmitic acid and lower OOO and OPP compared with IFs. Validation in a preterm rat model showed that DF improved body growth, intestinal villus development, and liver–kidney maturation relative to IF. DF also reduced visceral fat accumulation, improved lipid distribution, and alleviated hepatic burden. Serum analysis indicated lower triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), elevated insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) and growth hormone, and preserved liver function. Digestive product analysis further revealed enhanced retention of polyunsaturated fatty acids at the sn-2 position as 2-monoacylglycerols, promoting absorption while reducing fecal saturated fatty acid–calcium soaps. These findings demonstrate that multidimensional structural lipid optimization, particularly enrichment of sn-2 palmitic acid and HM-like TAGs, represents a promising approach for next-generation preterm formulas to better align with HM and support metabolic health in preterm infants.

In this paper, LiTi 2-x Sn x (PO 4 ) 3 /C (x = 0, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) composites were synthesized by sol-gel approach, and were investigated as anodes for aqueous lithium ion battery . Sn doping with proper content has no obvious influence on phase and morphology of the composite, while excessive dosage of Sn can affect its crystal structure. Sn doping can enhance the electrochemical properties of LiTi 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C (LC). Among LiTi 2-x Sn x (PO 4 ) 3 /C composites, LiTi 1.7 Sn 0.3 (PO 4 ) 3 /C (LC-Sn-0.3) demonstrates the best electrochemical properties. Most importantly, the rate performance of LC can be improved dramatically by Sn doping on Ti sites. LC-Sn-0.3 delivers a discharge capacity of 118.9, 115.3, and 104.2 mAh g −1 at 0.2, 6, and 20 C (1 C = 150 mA g −1 ), respectively, with significant increase of 15.2, 27.4, and 41.9 mAh g −1 compare with LC. In addition, LC-Sn-0.3 exhibits superior cycling performance. The capacity retention for LC-Sn-0.3 can keep 76.8% after 1000 cycles at relatively high rate of 10 C, while only 51.7% of initial discharge capacity is retained for LC. Our study reveals that Sn doping on Ti sites is an efficient and facile method to improve the performance of LiTi 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C composite for aqueous lithium ion battery.

At present, there have been some reports on the application of metal phase selenide (1T-MSe 2 ) in the field of energy storage. In this manuscript, a stable Sn-doped metal phase tungsten selenide (1T-WSe 2 -Sn) was elaborately fabricated in situ by a simple calcination technique. N-doping was introduced by employing chitosan as precursor and nanoreactor, the Sn-doping induces 1T phase of WSe 2 and enlarges the layer space to promote the electron/ion transport and structural stability. The optimized 1T-WSe 2 -Sn electrode delivers prominent cycling lifespan (285 mAh·g −1 at 1.0 A·g −1 after 900 cycles) along with decent rate capability when applied as an anode of sodium ion batteries (SIBs). The specific capacity was determined to be of 460 mAh·g −1 at 0.1 A·g −1 after 100 cycles. It also displays superior capacity of 183 mAh·g −1 at 0.5 A·g −1 for 200 cycles when paired with Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode. Applied as the anode for potassium ion batteries (PIBs), it exhibits a satisfactory specific capacity of 345 mAh·g −1 at 0.1 A·g −1 after 50 cycles. Graphical abstract

The combination of multi-metallic alloys and support materials is a promising approach for the design of electrocatalysts. In this study, Pd-M (M = Fe, Sb, Pb, Sn, Ag) bimetallic alloys embedded composites of 2D Ca-based metal–organic framework (Ca-MOF) nanosheets and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were fabricated by a facile hydrothermal and impregnation reduction method, then applied as ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) electrocatalysts. Remarkably, the forward peak current density of the best catalytic performer PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF is as high as 258.30 mA cm −2 , which is 9.55 times greater than that of Pd/C. It also exhibits the biggest electrochemical active surface area of 3022.51 m 2 g −1 . After 3600 s chronoamperometry test, the retained current density of PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF is about 87.94 % of the initial current density. These results imply that bimetallic Pd-M@rGO/Ca-MOF have superior electrocatalytic activity and anti-CO poisoning capacity compared to monometallic and Pd/C for EGOR, especially PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF. The enhanced EGOR performance is due to the combined effect of Pd-M alloys and folded thin layer wrapped nanosheet rGO/Ca-MOF composites.

With the aim of obtaining high corrosion resistant Zn–Sn alloy coatings from an ionic liquid, the effects of electrodeposition potential and electrolyte composition on the electrodeposition behavior, film composition, morphology and corrosion performance were investigated. Cyclic voltammograms indicate that Zn and Sn were co-deposited at distinct reduction potentials as pure Zn and Sn elements. In addition, the phase composition analysis also showed that the obtained Zn–Sn alloy deposits (8 wt.%–45 wt.% Zn) consist of a two-phase mechanical mixture of small aggregates of Zn and Sn metals. The Zn content of the alloy significantly increases as the electrodeposition potential and electrolyte Zn (II)/Sn (II) ratio increase. The corrosion performance study of the obtained Zn–Sn coatings showed that they have a passivation behavior and their corrosion resistance increases as the alloy-Sn content increases. To improve their morphological properties, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid additive was introduced into the electrolyte and greatly improved the morphology and corrosion resistance of the deposits. For the first time, it was shown that high corrosion resistance Zn–Sn coatings can be obtained from ionic liquids. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

White light with excellent color rendering property has been highly required for comfortable and healthy illumination. A facile strategy to achieve high color rendering index (Ra >90) in practical applications is using near ultraviolet chips as excitation sources combined with RGB phosphors. However, achieving high color rendering with both blue chips and near-ultraviolet (NUV) chips for commercial phosphors dispersed in phosphor-in-glass (PiGs) materials is still a big challenge. In this work, the PiG based on the ultra-low melting point Sn–F–P–O glass with commercial green (Lu 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ ) and red (Sr x Ca 1-x AlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ ) phosphors has been successfully fabricated by one-step sintering method. The phase identification and distribution of monochromatic red phosphor in glass (R-PiG) and green phosphor in glass (G-PiG) were investigated in detail. The Sn 2+ ions in Sn–F–P–O matrix show the intense blue emission bands centered at 420 nm under the excitation of NUV chips (365 nm). Notably, the polychromatic red/green phosphor in glasses (R/G-PiGs) are versatile and exhibited excellent color rendering (Ra = 93, Ra = 95, Ra = 92, respectively) properties excited by both blue chips, NUV chips and laser diodes (WLD). The working temperature of R/G-PiGs is stable at ∼33 °C and ∼55 °C when employed in WLEDs/WLDs (1 W), which greatly prevented the phenomenon of “thermal quenching” for the phosphors caused by high temperature. Thus, the versatile R/G-PiG with ultra-high color rendering and excellent thermal properties indicates its promising application in high-power white LEDs/LDs.

Sodium metal batteries (SMBs) are regarded as promising candidates for next-generation energy storage technologies due to their high energy density and low cost yet remain challenging owing to dendritic sodium deposition, unstable electrode–electrolyte interfaces, and sluggish ion transport, particularly under fast-charging conditions or at low operating temperatures. To address these challenges, in this study, we introduce Sn-Zn atomic configured porous, nitrogen-rich carbon-based meta-material (SA-NCS), derived from a guanine-based hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF), serving as sodium host material for SMBs, which provides a high density of atomic sodiophilic sites to promote the transition from one-dimensional dendritic deposition to two-dimensional planar-oriented dense plating, and features programmable nano-to-macro functional structures capable of effectively accommodating the anodic volume fluctuation induced by sodium plating and stripping. SA-NCS@Cu current collector exhibits an ultralow nucleation overpotential of 22 mV even at a high current density of 20 mA cm −2 and delivers exceptional cycling stability, enabling stable operation for 2000 h at 10 mA cm −2 with Coulombic efficiencies exceeding 99.9%. Moreover, the SA-NCS @Cu current collector based anode-less sodium metal batteries demonstrate a superior fast-charging capability and long-term cycling stability at −20°C. This study presents a practical design for sodium hosts, enabling high-performance SMBs.

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to formic acid is a promising route for mitigating CO2 emissions and producing value-added chemical feedstocks. However, achieving industrially relevant activity and stability in acidic media remains challenging due to severe hydrogen evolution, catalyst corrosion, and structural degradation. Herein, we report a rare–earth yttrium-doped SrSnO3 perovskite oxide (SrSn0.7Y0.3O3) synthesized via a solid-state reaction method. The incorporation of YO6 octahedra induces in situ electrochemical reconstruction of SnO6 units into metallic Sn, leading to the formation of strong YO6–Sn interfacial interactions that modulate the electronic structure of Sn active sites and enhance their structural stability. The optimized reconstructed catalyst, denoted as c–SrSn0.7Y0.3O3, delivers a Faradaic efficiency of over 90% for formic acid at an industrially relevant current density of 200 mA cm-2 under acidic conditions, while maintaining outstanding operational durability for over 180 h without observable performance decay. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the strong interaction between in situ generated metallic Sn and YO6 units effectively suppresses Sn dissolution and crystal structural collapse, thereby ensuring long-term stability in acidic media. This work demonstrates a rare-earth doping and electrochemical strategy that achieves a well-integrated balance of activity, selectivity, and stability, offering a promising pathway for advancing acidic CO2 electroreduction toward industrial application.

Conventional solid-state sintering of M-type hexaferrites requires high temperatures and long durations yet often yields inadequate density and coarse grains, limiting functional performance. This limitation is overcome by hot pressing, which applies uniaxial pressure synergistically with a transient liquid phase. This strategy enables rapid densification at a substantially lower temperature of 975 °C, in contrast to over 1100 °C for conventional methods. The resulting ceramics achieve near theoretical density exceeding 98% (98.03-98.22%), a fine-grained uniform microstructure, and superior structural integrity ( R wp = 2.50-2.83%), properties unattainable by standard sintering. The hot-pressing process also leads to oxygen vacancy reorganization. Consequently, the materials exhibit comprehensively enhanced properties: the optimal composition achieves a high coercivity of 1672.8 Oe, and low dielectric loss (ε″ ≈ 0.93 at 1 MHz) with excellent temperature stability (Δε' as low as 9.23). This work establishes hot pressing as a superior alternative and elucidates the underlying pressure assisted densification and valence modulation mechanism, providing a new design principle for engineering high performance microwave ferrites.

Bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework materials (Zn/Co-ZIFs) represent a notable class within the field of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). These materials are characterized by their advantageous properties typical of MOFs, including a high specific surface area and tunable pore sizes, in addition to exhibiting the structural stability that is characteristic of zeolites. In contrast, although tin-based materials demonstrate a high theoretical specific capacity, they experience significant volume changes during the charge and discharge cycles of batteries, leading to materal degradation and reduced cycling stability. In this study, Sn doping was successfully achieved in Zn/Co-NPC (N-doped porous carbon) by thermally treating Zn/Co-ZIFs at 700℃ through an impregnation method. This doping enhanced the sodium storage capacity of Zn/Co-NPC and improved its electrochemical performance. Experimental data indicate that the Sn/Zn/Co-NPC composite has a specific surface area of 332.80 m 2 g −1 and an average pore diameter of 7.30 nm. When this composite is used as the anode material in sodium-ion batteries, it demonstrates outstanding performance: after 100 cycles, its reversible specific capacity reaches 344.20 mAh g −1 (at a current density of 100 mA g −1 ) and exhibits excellent rate capability. Consequently, this study provides substantial insight into the prospective advancement of structurally stable and high-capacity anode materials for sodium-ion batteries.
