A series of cubic-phase indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles (NPs) with varying tin (Sn) doping ratios were synthesized via a solvothermal method. By precisely controlling the dopant concentration, the resulting ITO NPs of approximately 15 nm with excellent crystallinity achieved tunable infrared localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption across the 1000–6000 nm wavelength range. For the first time, the antibacterial properties of ITO NPs under dark conditions were systematically investigated, revealing a strong correlation between their infrared LSPR absorption characteristics and antibacterial efficacy. Notably, ITO NPs with 5% Sn doping ratio exhibited the highest LSPR quality factor and the strongest antibacterial activity, producing an inhibition zone diameter 3.33 times larger than that of the control. In contrast, undoped, lightly doped, or excessively doped samples showed either diminished plasmonic quality factors, weak antibacterial activity, or a complete absence of antibacterial effects. This study represents the first demonstration of exploiting infrared LSPR-active ITO NPs for spontaneous antibacterial activity in darkness. The observed functionality is attributed to the NPs’ ability to absorb and convert ambient background radiation into localized energy. In summary, this work establishes ITO NPs as a novel class of inorganic antibacterial materials for dark environments with promising potential for coating and surface protection applications.

The high energy density and stability of solid-state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) have garnered great attention. Garnet-type oxides, especially Li 6.4 La 3 Zr 1.4 Ta 0.6 O 12 (LLZTO), with high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical window, and stability to Li metal anode, are promising solid-state electrolyte (SSEs) materials for SSLMBs. However, Li/LLZTO interface issues including high interface resistance, inhomogeneous Li deposition, and Li dendrite growth have hindered the practical application of SSLMBs. Herein, a multi-functional Li–SnF 2 composite anode with Li, LiF, and Li-Sn alloy was specifically designed and prepared. The composite anode improves the wettability to LLZTO, constructing an intimate contact interface between it and LLZTO. Meanwhile, ionic/electronic conductive paths in situ formed at the interface can effectively uniform Li deposition and suppress Li dendrite. The solid-state symmetric cell exhibits low interface resistance (11 Ω·cm 2 ) and high critical current density (1.3 mA·cm −2 ) at 25 °C. The full SSLMB based on LiFePO 4 or LiNi 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 O 2 cathode also shows stable cycling performance and high rate capability. This work provides a new composite anode strategy for achieving high-energy density and high-safety SSLMBs. Graphical abstract

Covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) and related composites show an enormous potential in next-generation high energy-density lithium-ion batteries. However, the strategy to design functional covalent organic framework materials with nanoscale structure and controllable morphology faces serious challenges. In this work, a layer-assembled hollow microspherical structure (Sn@COF-hollow) based on the tin-nitrogen (Sn-N) coordination interaction is designed. Such carefully-crafted hollow structure with large exposed surface area and metal center decoration endows the Sn@COF-hollow electrode with more activated lithium-reaction sites, including Sn ions, carbon-nitrogen double bond (C N) groups and carbon-carbon double bond (C C) units from aromatic benzene rings. Besides, the layer-assembled hollow structure of the Sn@COF-hollow electrode can also alleviate the volume expansion of electrode during repeated cycling, and achieve fast electrons/ions transmission and capacitance-dominated lithium-reaction kinetics, further leading to enhanced cycling performance and rate properties. In addition, the effective combination of the inorganic metal and organic framework components in the Sn@COF-hollow electrode can promote its improved conductivity and further enhance lithium-storage properties. Benefited from these merits, the Sn@COF-hollow electrode delivers highly reversible large capacities of 1080 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 100 mA g −1 and 685 mAh g −1 after 300 cycles at 1000 mA g −1 . This work provides an interesting and effective way to design COF-based anodes of lithium-ion battery with improved electrochemical performances.

A series of CH3NH3PbBr3 (MAPbBr3) nanostructure-based films with various thicknesses on indium-tin-oxide (ITO)-covered substrates were fabricated by the spin-coating technique. The effects of ITO on the structure, surface morphology, and optical properties of MAPbBr3 thin films were investigated, respectively. Compared with monolayer MAPbBr3 thin films, the ITO buffer layer has the effect of improving the crystalline quality and preferential orientation of MAPbBr3 thin films, realizing the transition from reverse saturation absorption to saturation absorption. The tunability of nonlinear optical absorption was achieved by changing the thickness of the MAPbBr3 film. The maximum three-photon absorption coefficient of the monolayer MAPbBr3 film was 7.35 × 10–14 cm3/W2. The maximum third-order nonlinearity coefficient of MAPbBr3/ITO composite film was −1.04 × 10–5 cm/W. In addition, the finite-difference time-domain simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results. These results indicate that the synthesized MAPbBr3 nanostructure-based films have potential applications in nonlinear optical devices.

Self-powered photodetectors with excellent figures-of-merit, fast response speed, and broadband detection capability have drawn tremendous research interest. However, it is still challenging to develop excellent light-absorbing materials as photodetectors with effective separation of carriers. In this paper, we develop a SnO2 nano litchi shell structure/n-Si heterojunction with enhanced broadband light absorption for self-powered photodetection. The advantageous photoresponse performance of the SnO2 nano litchi shell structure/n-Si heterojunction is attributed to the following factors: (1) the SnO2 nano litchi shell structure has a large specific surface area to trap light; (2) the spherical cavity structure increases the light utilization rate by scattering and multiple reflections; (3) the significant Fermi energy difference at the junction of the SnO2 layer and Si layer. As a result, the device exhibits a broadband detection capacity from ultraviolet (365 nm) to near-infrared (980 nm) at 0 voltage. Under 900 nm (10 μW cm−2), the photodetector shows the responsivity of 0.033 A W−1, the photosensitivity of 8.35 × 108 cm2 W−1, the detectivity of 2.94 × 1012 Jones, the response time of 20.8 μs, and the recovery time of 285 μs. We also evaluated the near-infrared low signal imaging and fluorescence detection capability of the device. We expect that the SnO2 nano litchi shell structure/n-Si heterojunction photodetector will have great potential in biomedical and environmental monitoring, and military reconnaissance.

Nonmetallic ammonium ions that feature high safety, low molar mass, and small hydrated radius properties have shown great advantages in wearable aqueous supercapacitors. The construction of high-energy-density flexible ammonium-ion asymmetric supercapacitors (AASCs) is promising but still challenging due to the lack of high-capacitance pseudocapacitive anodes. Herein, freestanding core–shell heterostructures supported on carbon nanotube fibers were designed by anchoring MoS2 nanosheets on nanowires (MoS2@TiN/CNTF) as anodes for AASCs. With contributions of abundant active sites and conspicuous synergistic effects of multiple components for arrayed heterostructure engineering, the developed MoS2@TiN/CNTF anodes exhibit a specific capacitance of 1102.5 mF cm–2 at 2 mA cm–2. Theoretical calculations confirm the dramatic enhancement of the binding strength of ammonium ions on the MoS2 shell layer at the heterostructure, where a built-in electric field exists to accelerate the charge transfer. By utilizing a MnO2/CNTF cathode and NH4Cl/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as a gel electrolyte, quasi-solid-state fiber-shaped AASCs were successfully constructed, achieving a specific capacitance of 351.2 mF cm–2 and an energy density of 195.1 μWh cm–2, outperforming most recently reported fiber-shaped supercapacitors. This work provides a promising strategy to rationally design heterostructure engineering of MoS2@TiN nanoarrays toward advanced anodes for application in next-generation AASCs.

The heat exchange medium moderately determines the heat utilization efficiency of solar energy. Nanofluids , a type of working fluids with high thermal conductivity and strong light absorption, have been studied and applied to improve solar energy utilization. In this study, TiN@SiCw binary composite nanoparticles were prepared by a coupling agent method. The optical coupling absorption properties of TiN and SiCw nanoparticles were numerically simulated by the finite-difference time-domain method. Results showed the TiN@SiCw nanostructure can improve the width and intensity of spectral absorption. Then TiN@SiCw and SiCw nanofluids based on ethylene glycol were prepared by a two-step method and studied experimentally in terms of thermal conductivity and optical absorption. The photothermal conversion efficiency of the nanofluids was measured by a special flow and photothermal coupling model (side radiation). Experiments showed the thermal conductivity and light absorption of TiN@SiCw composite nanofluids were stronger than those of SiCw single-component nanofluids and the base fluid. Specifically, the energy absorption fraction and the photo-thermal efficiency of TiN@SiCw nanofluids at the highest concentration of 140 ppm were 96.2% and 90.5%, respectively, which were 12.1% and 21.7% higher respectively compared with SiCw nanofluids. Hence, the TiN@SiCw nanofluids are suitable for enhancing the efficiency of solar collectors.

Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) was synthesized at high temperature and ultra-high pressure, using cBN, TiN, AlN and Ti as starting materials. The effects of CBN content (48–63 wt%) and sintering temperature (1300–1600 °C) on the composition, microstructure and mechanical properties of PCBN materials were studied. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope were used to analyze the phase composition, microstructure and surface crack morphology of PCBN. At the same time, the compactness, microhardness, fracture toughness and flexural strength of PCBN were tested. Research shows that the phase components of PCBN samples are mainly composed of BN, TiB 2 , TiN and AlN. Almost all Ti reacts with cBN during the sintering process to form TiN and TiB 2 phases. When the sintering temperature is 1500 °C, the reaction has been fully completed. When the cBN content increases from 48 to 63 wt%, the relative density, flexural strength and hardness of PCBN increase with the increase in cBN content. When sintered at 1500 °C and the cBN content is 63 wt%, the relative density, flexural strength, fracture toughness and microhardness of the composite are 99%, 820.8 MPa, 6.6 MPa.m 1/2 and 3362 Hv, respectively.

Lead-free two-dimensional metal halide perovskites have recently emerged as promising light-emitting materials due to their improved stability and attractive optical properties. Herein, a facile room temperature wet milling method has been developed to make Dion–Jacobson (DJ) phase ODASnBr4perovskite microcrystals, whose crystallization was accomplished via the aid of introduced primary alcohols: ethanol, butanol, pentanol, and hexanol. Due to the strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding, the use of ethanol promoted the formation of non-doped ODASnBr4microcrystals, with an emission peaked at 599 nm and a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) of 81%. By introducing other primary alcohols with weaker intermolecular hydrogen bonding such as butanol, pentanol, and hexanol, [SnBr6]4−octahedral slabs of the DJ perovskite microcrystals experienced various degrees of expansion while forming O–H…Br hydrogen bonds. This resulted in the emission spectra of these alcohol-doped microcrystals to be adjusted in the range from 572 to 601 nm, while keeping the PL QY high, at around 89%. Our synthetic strategy provides a viable pathway towards strongly emitting lead-free DJ perovskite microcrystals with an improved stability. Keywords:Dion–Jacobson perovskites;tin bromide perovskites;photoluminescence;crystallization;primary alcohols

Owing to a nanochannel-based enrichment effect and anti-fouling ability, highly ordered and vertically oriented mesoporous silica thin film (VMSF) modified electrodes have demonstrated their great potential in direct and highly sensitive analysis of complex samples. In this work, a VMSF modified fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode (VMSF/FTO) is fabricated for enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) analysis of lidocaine in serum. VMSF with good integrity and mechanical stability can be rapidly and conveniently grown on FTO in a few seconds at room temperature using an electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. Due to the strong electrostatic attraction between the cationic ECL probe and negatively charged nanochannel, the VMSF/FTO electrode shows significant enrichment of tris(2,2-bipyridine) ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)32+), leading to ∼10 times enhancement of its ECL signal in comparison to the bare FTO electrode. Lidocaine, an anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug, can act as the co-reactant of Ru(bpy)32+ and promote its ECL signal. Sensitive ECL detection of lidocaine is achieved by the sensor in a wide linear range from 10 nM to 50 μM with a low limit-of-detection (LOD) of 8 nM. Combined with the antifouling ability of VMSF, the VMSF/FTO electrode also realizes the accurate and rapid analysis of lidocaine in real serum samples.

In this article, a sandwich-type electrochemical sensor for selective determination of glucose based on the formation of glucose-boronic bidentate complex has been developed. 3-aminophenylboronic acid ( m -APBA) was immobilized on the gold nanoparticles modified ITO electrode with the linker molecule 4-mercaptobenzoic acid ( p -MBA). Then, glucose was captured by boronic acid group from m -APBA as the primary receptor and further grafted with an electroactive ferroceneboronic acid (FcBA) as the secondary receptor to form the sandwich-type sensor for selective detection of glucose. For comprehensively understanding the effect of the charge and structure of the terminal boronic acid group of 3-APBA on its binding to glucose, surface p K a was studied by electrochemical titration method, and it was proved the feasibility of examining glucose in physiological condition by the sandwich-type electrochemical sensor. The electrochemical characteristics of the as-prepared sensor were investigated by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The electrochemical sensor displayed a linear detection range of glucose from 0.5 mmol L −1 to 30 mmol L −1 , with detection limit of 43 µmol L −1 . The sensor exhibited good performance in selectivity study with the coexistence of galactose, fructose, mannose and other common interferences in physiological environment, such as, uric acid, ascorbic acid and dopamine. The as-prepared electrode with high sensitivity, good stability and reproducibility as well as excellent biocompatibility made it promising for the development of enzyme-free sensors.

With the fast development of modern intelligent buildings, the demand for a comfortable environment and 'low carbon' technologies, for example, energy-saving buildings, becomes more intense. Thermal insulation coatings as one of the most promising routes to alleviate the energy consumption of buildings attract extensive attention in recent years. In this work, titanium nitride-based organic-inorganic composite films (TiN O/I films) were introduced as the thermal insulation coatings to window glass via blade coating method. Additionally, two different synthesis methods were adopted to prepare the inorganic TiN nanoparticle and its effect on the optical property of the coatings was studied detailedly via the ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV–vis-IR) spectrophotometer and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer characterizations. In addition, the thermal insulation properties of the films were characterized by a system that simulates the natural environment. Various characterizations show that the synthesized TiN O/I films can not only pass through the visible light but also has high reflectance at the mid-infrared range, that is with the functions of solar control and low emission, well satisfying the requirements of the energy-saving coatings for window glass. These results demonstrated the good feasibility of TiN O/I films in thermal insulation coatings, and also provide a direction for the development of more novel thermal insulation materials with large-scale.
