Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have become premium candidates for the removal of hazardous contaminants from wastewater. However, MOFs have a vast obstacle which is their poor recyclability. In this study, ZIF-67 was decorated with magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles, and then embedded into aminated chitosan (AmCs) matrix to form core-dual shell Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-67@AmCs composite beads. Diverse analysis tools were utilized to ensure the successful fabrication of the magnetic composite beads. The fabricated magnetic composite beads were examined their adsorptive removal aptitude towards toxic Cr(VI) ions. The gained results refereed that a maximum adsorption capacity of 119.05 mg/g was attained by magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-67@AmCs composite beads at 25 °C. The process obeyed both of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, and the pseudo 2nd order was more suitable kinetic model to represent the adsorption process. Besides, Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-67@AmCs composite showed an excellent recyclability for the removal of Cr(VI) ions from their aqueous solutions for seven consecutive cycles.

Controllable structure and defect design are considered as efficient strategies to boost the electrochemical activity and stability of catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, oxygen defect hollow Co3O4/nitrogen-doped carbon (OV-HCo3O4@NC) composites were successfully synthesized using tannic acid-modified ZIF-67 (TAMZIF-67) as the precursor through a one-step pyrolysis. Tannic acid provides abundant oxygen during the pyrolysis process of the modified ZIF-67, which can contribute to the formation of oxygen defects and the construction of a hollow structure. The existence of oxygen defects is shown by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance, whereas the hollow structure is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. The optimized OV-HCo3O4@NC shows good electrocatalytic activity and exhibits a low overpotential of 360 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in 0.1 M KOH due to the hollow structure, abundant oxygen defects, and good electrical conductivity. This work provides valuable insights into the exploration of promising OER electrocatalysts with oxygen defects and special structures.

Recently, Metal-organic framework (MOF) has attracted general attention as self-sacrificial template to produce metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) for gas sensing. In this work, we fabricated a porous cubic microstructure of Co 3 O 4 through the facile pyrolysis of ZIF-67. The obtained Co 3 O 4 sustained a similar cubic morphology with ZIF-67 template, but much improved pore structure was achieved. Moreover, we attempted to modify the Co 3 O 4 with Au nanoparticles . Through a facile post-synthesis adsorption & pyrolysis, the Au nanoparticles with an average size of 15–20 nm were evenly dispersed on the surface of Co 3 O 4 . Then the obtained samples were investigated for acetone gas-sensing. Results showed that both Co 3 O 4 and its Au doped structure could be used for acetone detection, while due to the existence of metal-semiconductor heterojunction and the catalysis and spillover functions of Au nanoparticles, the prepared Au/Co 3 O 4 composite showed much improved acetone response and much shortened response-recovery time than that of the bare Co 3 O 4 structure.

Graphical Better batteries : Co 9 S 8 /N-C hollow spheres were successfully synthesized through synchronous pyrolysis and sulfurization of ZIF-67 (see figure). These structures deliver a distinguished performance when applied as the anode in lithium-ion batteries. Co 9 S 8 is considered a promising candidate as the anode material in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its remarkable electrical conductivity, high theoretical capacity, and low cost. However, the practical application of Co 9 S 8 is greatly restricted because of its poor cycling stability and rate performance, which result mainly from the large volume expansion and dissolution of the polysulfide intermediates during the charge/discharge process. In this report, Co 9 S 8 embedded in N-rich carbon hollow spheres are successfully designed and synthesized through an in situ pyrolysis and sulfurization process, employing the well-known ZIF-67 as the precursor and ethanethiol as the sulfur source. Co 9 S 8 nanoparticles embedded in the N-rich hollow carbon shell exhibit excellent lithium storage properties at a high charge/discharge rate. A discharge capacity of 784 mAh g −1 is obtained upon battery testing at a current density of 1 C (544 mA g −1 ). Even upon cycling at a current density of 4 C, the as-prepared Co 9 S 8 /N-C can still deliver a discharge capacity of 518 mAh g −1 . The excellent battery performance can be attributed to the hollow structure as well as the N-rich carbon encapsulation. Moreover, this metal–organic framework sulfurization route also shows good generality for the synthesis of other metal sulfide–carbon composites such as ZnS/N-C and Cu 2 S/C.

The development of economical and efficient platinum-based catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is considered the most promising strategy for the widespread application of clean energy conversion devices. Herein, Co nanoparticles encapsulated in N-doped carbon carriers, CoCN(CDs-X), were constructed by pyrolyzing carbon dots (CDs) doped ZIF-67 and further used to anchor Pt to prepare low Pt loading catalysts, PtCoCN(CDs-X). The introduction of CDs not only improves the conductivity for efficient electron transfer, but also regulates the interaction between Pt and the CoCN(CDs-X) support and alleviates the oxidation of Pt. The optimized PtCoCN(CDs-0.10) displays decent ORR behavior with onset and half-wave potentials of 0.95 V and 0.83 V, respectively, in alkaline media and superior catalytic stability and methanol tolerance. While employing PtCoCN(CDs-0.10) as a cathode catalyst for an as-assembled zinc–air battery (ZAB), it delivers an excellent power density of 194.2 mW cm−2 and exceptional operation stability, which is indicated by a voltage efficiency loss of only 7.7% after a long cycle life of 100 h, demonstrating its great potential applications.

H 2 S gas sensors with facile preparation, low detection limits, and high selectivity are crucial for environmental and human health monitoring. However, it is difficult to maintain a high response of H 2 S gas sensors under high humidity in practical applications. To face this dilemma, a layer-by-layer growth method is applied to in situ prepare a nanostructured Co(CO 3 ) 0.5 (OH)·0.11H 2 O/WO 3 coated by a hydrophobic hierarchical ZIF-67 as the H 2 S sensor. This novel composite exhibits excellent humidity immunity without sacrificing the excellent sensitivity and selectivity of H 2 S. At a low operating temperature of 90 °C, a remarkable response value of 1052.3 to 100 ppm H 2 S has been achieved, which is 779 and 9.36 times higher than that of pure WO 3 and Co(CO 3 ) 0.5 (OH)·0.11H 2 O/WO 3 , respectively. More importantly, an 82.2% relative response value remains at a high humidity of 75%RH. The sensing mechanisms are investigated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which revealed that the reaction products are H 2 O and SO 2 . The high humidity immunity and fast response of the Co(CO 3 ) 0.5 (OH)·0.11H 2 O@ZIF-67/WO 3 demonstrate the layer-by-layer in situ synthesis method holds the potential application for the development of high-performance WO 3 -based H 2 S sensors.

Graphical Here, the core-shell structure of ZIF-90@ZIF-67 was applied for the first time to catalyze the tandem reaction in Pickering emulsion system, which exhibited excellent catalytic performance with 99.9 % yield. Furthermore, ZIF-90@ZIF-67 has high stability and maintains good reproducibility after five cycles. This work provides a platform for the design of structurally and functionally diverse MOF-based interfacial catalysis for Pickering emulsions. Exploiting advanced solid particles is crucial to the construction of Pickering emulsions catalysis. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used as ideal emulsifiers stabilizing Pickering emulsions for interfacial catalysis. Although Pickering emulsions stabilized by core-shell MOFs have significant importance in practical studies, to date there have been very limited reports on this topic. Herein, ZIF-90@ZIF-67, a core-shell material with simultaneous acid-base bifunctionality, was synthesized by seeded epitaxial growth. It was firstly applied as an emulsifier in Pickering emulsions to catalyze the deacetalization-Knoevenagel tandem reaction, which exhibited excellent catalytic properties and achieved extremely high yields. Additionally, ZIF-90@ZIF-67 showed high stability and remained well repeatable after five cycles. This work provides a platform for the design of structurally and functionally diverse MOF-based Pickering emulsions interfacial catalysis.

A dual-mode fluorescent/colorimetric sensor is presented utilizing Au/ZIF-67 nanocomposites for an ultrasensitive ochratoxin A (OTA) detection. The system employs polydopamine-coated Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 @MIP) as magnetic recognition elements and aptamer/3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB)-functionalized Au/ZIF-67 nanocomposites (Apt/TMB/Au/ZIF-67) as dual-signal probes for both fluorescence and colorimetric detection. Through molecular imprinting-aptamer synergistic recognition, OTA binding induces the formation of sandwich-structured particles (Fe 3 O 4 @MIP-OTA-Apt/TMB/Au/ZIF-67). Magnetic separation of these particles facilitates fluorescence measurements, while residual Apt/TMB/Au/ZIF-67 in solution permits simultaneous colorimetric detection. Crucially, fluorescence intensity increases while colorimetric absorption decreases proportionally with OTA concentration (0.5–25 ng mL⁻ 1 ), enabling self-validating dual-mode detection without requiring reagent replacement. The platform achieves detection limits of 0.15 ng mL⁻ 1 (fluorescence) and 0.13 ng mL⁻ 1 (colorimetry). The sensor was successfully validated for OTA quantification in real food samples, demonstrating significant potential for food safety applications. Graphical

The development of high-performance microwave absorbers with strong absorption intensity, broad absorption bandwidth, and thin matching thickness remains a focal point in the field of electromagnetic (EM) attenuation materials. The synergistic design and construction of microstructures based on multiple polarization and loss mechanisms represent an effective approach to achieve this objective. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) inherently possess both magnetic and dielectric capabilities, making them excellent templates for high-performance microwave absorbers. However, single-component MOF-derived absorbers still suffer from insufficient absorption efficiency and a narrow effective bandwidth. Herein, a 0D/1D composite optimization strategy combining both component design and microstructure engineering is proposed to enhance EM attenuation in MOF-derived absorbers. The design features a cubic dual-phase CoFe alloy to serve as a magnetic loss framework. Meanwhile, the in situ grown CNTs endow the nanocomposite with substantial conductive loss, as well as the enhancement of interfacial polarization and dipole polarization. The resultant CoFe@CNTs nanocomposite achieves a minimal reflection loss of −49.63 dB at 16.88 GHz (1.5 mm thickness) and 6.32 GHz EAB at 1.71 mm. Compared to single-component Co nanoparticles, the superior absorption performance with lower RL, wider bandwidth, and thinner thickness makes the CoFe@CNTs nanocomposite an ideal highly effective EM absorption candidate.

The coexistence of dopamine (DA) and acetaminophen (AC) in living organisms leading to an unexpected mutual interference in electrochemical detection techniques demands a simultaneous, selective as well as simple and cost-effective approach for DA and AC. Herein, a novel nanocomposite was fabricated by integrating carbonized ZIF-67 (C-ZIF-67) with carbon black Super P (SP) and introduced onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to form a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor (C-ZIF-67/SP/GCE) for the simultaneous determination of DA and AC. The well-prepared nanomaterial presents a polyhedral morphology interlaced on a reticulated chain. C-ZIF-67/SP/GCE shows excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the redox reactions of DA and AC in a dynamic linear range up to 100 μM, which could be attributed to the synergistic effect of the large specific surface area of C-ZIF67 and the excellent conductivity of SP. The limits of detection (LODs, S/N = 3) of 0.58 μM and 0.27 μM were obtained for DA and AC, respectively. Moreover, the developed sensor exhibited good reproducibility and long-term stability. The C-ZIF-67/SP/GCE was employed to analyze DA and AC biomedical samples and satisfactory recoveries were achieved. This approach provides a simple, easy and sensitive method to detect DA and AC simultaneously and selectively.

Residual chloramphenicol (CAP) in environment can have adverse effects on health of organism and ecosystems, so accurate detection and effective removal are crucial. Although molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) possess excellent selectivity, their pursuit of high specificity often results in relatively low adsorption capacities, restricting their practical application in large-scale pollutant removal. In order to achieve high-capacity and high selectivity adsorption of CAP, in this work, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (ZIF-67@MIP) was synthesized by using ZIF-67, a metal-organic framework with a high specific surface area, as the carrier. The result demonstrated that the proposed ZIF-67@MIP had a superior adsorption capacity and imprinting factor of 87.80 mg g⁻ 1 and 2.35, respectively. The adsorption equilibrium can be reached within 30 min, which was consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isothermal model. And that the ZIF-67@MIP had strong anti-interference across a wide range of pH values (3−12) and coexisting ions, making it suitable for complex environmental matrices. Adsorption mechanism analysis verified that the excellent adsorption was attributed to the synergistic effect of π-π stacking, hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic interactions, electrostatic attraction, and the spatial matching of imprinted sites. Furthermore, the prepared ZIF-67@MIP was successfully applied to the adsorption and removal of CAP in environmental samples, with recoveries of 80.58 %-106.37 % and a detection limit of 0.001 mg L⁻ 1 . It also exhibited excellent regeneration and stability, maintaining high adsorption efficiency even after 24 cycles. Therefore, the strategy of preparing MIPs by using MOFs as carriers can significantly improve the adsorption performance of imprinting materials, which is of great significance for highly efficient removal of pollutants from the environment.
