This study presents a facile synthesis of cerium-based metal–organic frameworks (Ce-BTC) and their subsequent pyrolysis into nanorod-shaped CeO 2 -BTC for interfacial engineering in carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs). The optimized FTO/SnO 2 /CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 /CeO 2 -BTC/Carbon architecture achieves a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.63%, representing a 31.09% enhancement over the baseline device. This improvement stems from multiple synergistic effects: CeO 2 -BTC demonstrates exceptional charge extraction capability, establishes superior interfacial contact, and directly coordinates with perovskite through Pb-O bond formation. Furthermore, the C=O groups effectively anchor uncoordinated Pb 2 + ions, modulating perovskite crystallization kinetics and improving film quality. Subsequent hot-pressing treatment elevates the champion device PCE to 15.12% through enhanced interfacial compactness. Remarkably, the optimized devices retain 93.26% of initial efficiency after 700 h of ambient air exposure without encapsulation, demonstrating exceptional environmental stability. This work provides a comprehensive strategy for developing high-performance, durable carbon-based perovskite photovoltaics through rational interface engineering.

In this study, a fluorescence and Fe 3+ ions-responsive cerium-based metal organic framework is decorated on phytic acid-glucose hydrothermal copolymer-coated montmorillonite (MMT@CP@Ce-MOF) nanocontainer, which was developed for Q235 carbon steel's corrosion protection and detection in solution, waterborne epoxy coatings (WEP), and solvent epoxy coatings (EP). In the solution phase, the corrosion detection ability of Q235 carbon steel was introduced, relying on the Fe 3+ ions-responsive characteristic of MMT@CP@Ce-MOF. In the coating phase, WEP and EP with good barrier effect, active anti-corrosion, self-detection, and good mechanical performance were fabricated by integrating MMT@CP@Ce-MOF nanocontainers. The EIS results indicated that 2D MMT@CP@Ce-MOF based composite coating showed better anti-corrosion performance (the |Z| f= 0.01Hz value of EP-MMT@CP@Ce-MOF and WEP-MMT@CP@Ce-MOF remained 1.33 × 10 9 Ω·cm 2 and 2.71 × 10 8 Ω·cm 2 , respectively, far higher than the bare coating) after 40 d immersion. At the same time, the Ce-MOF nanosensor could accurately reflect the occurrence of corrosion at the coating damage sites. Furthermore, high adhesion force (2–3 times higher than bare coating) and results of coating fracture surface showed that homogenously incorporated MMT@CP@Ce-MOF could improve the composite coating mechanical properties by chemical interaction with the epoxy polymer.

The development of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based composite systems for visible-light-driven organic photocatalysis under mild conditions, offering an effective approach for sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis. Herein, we synthesized Z-scheme photocatalysts CdS/Ce-UiO-66 by combining the representative photocatalyst CdS and Ce-UiO-66, demonstrating excellent photocatalytic performance for imines synthesis in air. The CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites demonstrated significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for the oxidative coupling of amines under visible-light irradiation in air, outperforming their individual components. Remarkably, the composite achieved conversion of benzylamine with exclusive formation of imines as the sole product and efficiency up to 84 % at least four cycles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic system exhibited excellent substrate adaptability, demonstrating broad applicability across various amine substrates. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites can be primarily attributed to the uniform dispersion of CdS nanoparticles and the unique heterostructure system that effectively modulates the band gap, extends the light absorption range, and promotes charge carrier separation. This study not only presents an efficient photocatalytic strategy for the direct synthesis of imines through oxidative coupling of amines but also demonstrates the significant potential of photoactive CdS/MOF hybrid systems in sustainable chemical synthesis.

Phosphates within tumors function as key biomolecules, playing a significant role in sustaining the viability of tumors. To disturb the homeostasis of cancer cells, regulating phosphate within the organism proves to be an effective strategy. Herein, we report single-atom Ce-doped Pt hydrides (Ce/Pt–H) with high phosphatase-like activity for phosphate hydrolysis. The resultant Ce/Pt–H exhibits a 26.90- and 6.25-fold increase in phosphatase-like activity in comparison to Ce/Pt and Pt–H, respectively. Mechanism investigations elucidate that the Ce Lewis acid site facilitates the coordination with phosphate groups, while the surface hydrides enhance the electron density of Pt for promoting catalytic ability in H2O cleavage and subsequent nucleophilic attack of hydroxyl groups. Finally, by leveraging its phosphatase-like activity, Ce/Pt–H can effectively regulate intracellular phosphates to disrupt redox homeostasis and amplify oxidative stress within cancer cells, ultimately leading to tumor apoptosis. This work provides fresh insights into noble-metal-based phosphatase mimics for inducing tumor apoptosis.

Co-Fe spinel oxides are attractive alternatives to noble metal-based electrocatalysts for water splitting due to their abundant reserves, unique electrochemical redox characteristics and inherent stability. However, their alkaline HER performance under high-current conditions remains limited by inefficient water adsorption/dissociation and suboptimal hydrogen adsorption balance. Herein, a 600-cm 2 amorphous Ce-doped Co 2 FeO 4 cathode with Zn vacancies (Ce, Zn v -Co 2 FeO 4 ) were synthesized by electrodeposition and alkaline etching method. It exhibits exceptional alkaline HER performance with low overpotentials of 47.5 and 247.5 mV at 10 and 1000 mA cm −2 , meanwhile maintaining high stability over 500 h at 1000 mA cm −2 with a potential retention rate of 96.5%. The resulting water electrolyzer with Ce, Zn v -Co 2 FeO 4 as cathode only needs a cell voltage of 1.90 V at 1000 mA cm −2 for overall water splitting. In-situ electrochemical tests and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the synergistic effect of Ce doping and Zn vacancies in Co 2 FeO 4 leads to a 50% reduction in bandgap, thereby enhancing conductivity. It also facilitates spontaneous water adsorption and dissociation, reduces the energy barrier by 46%, and optimizes the balance of hydrogen adsorption/desorption, thereby ultimately enhancing HER activity. This study presents a potential strategy to address the performance limitations of spinel-based HER catalysts.

With the extensive use of neonicotinoid pesticides like thiamethoxam (TMX), there is a growing need to develop sensitive and selective methods to monitor its residue levels. In this study, we developed a fluorescence sensor based on terbium/cerium metal-organic framework combined with molecularly imprinted polymer (Tb/Ce MOF@MIP) for TMX detection. Through systematic optimization of synthesis conditions and detection conditions, the sensor was successfully employed for the determination of TMX, exhibiting high selectivity, along with a linear detection range of 1–50 μM and a limit of detection of 0.8 μM. In addition, the practical applicability of the sensor was validated in real samples including apples, tea, and soil, and the accuracy was assessed through recovery experiments.

Iron-cerium co-doped carbon dots (Fe,Ce-CDs) were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method using tartaric acid and L-tryptophan as ligands. Fe,Ce-CDs shows excellent peroxidase-like (POD) activity and nitrite (NO 2 − ) can promote the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its blue oxidation product (oxTMB) due to the formation of ∙NO 2 free radical. NO 2 − further react with oxTMB to form a yellow color via diazotization resulting in the absorbance Change at 450 nm. By Fe,Ce-CDs + NO 2 − + TMB + H 2 O 2 and oxTMB + NO 2 − systems, a dual-signal colorimetric nanosensor for NO 2 − detection is developed with lower detection limits (LODs) of 0.272 μg/L and 0.019 mg/L, respectively. The proposed methods were applied to the detection of NO 2 − in tobacco samples with good recovery from 91.20 to 110.61%, achieving similar results and indicating their high accuracy and feasibility. A porous aluminum–cerium (Al/Ce) composite oxide was innovatively synthesized via a one-step, template-free evaporation–pyrolysis route, enabling in-situ formation of sulfate-templated mesopores and dual-functional –OH/SO 4 2 ⁻ sites. Designed to address the severe ion interference of geothermal water, this bifunctional adsorbent achieved rapid, simultaneous removal of arsenic (As) and fluoride (F⁻) with high efficiencies (93.8 % As, 91.5 % F⁻) within 15 min. Maximum adsorption capacities reached 251 mg/g (As) and 297 mg/g (F⁻), following pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherms. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed spontaneous, endothermic chemisorption. Structural characterizations (FT-IR, XRD, XPS) revealed ion exchange and surface complexation mechanisms via formation of Al–F, Ce–F, and Ce–O–As bonds. Remarkably, in real geothermal matrices rich in competing ions, removal efficiencies exceeded 96 %, underscoring the composite's strong anti-interference performance. This study demonstrates a scalable, environmentally friendly strategy for fabricating robust, synergistic adsorbents tailored for complex wastewater treatment.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) catalysts have unique electronic properties and geometric structures, offering maximum atom-utilization efficiency. Noble metal-free SACs anchored within metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) enable precise tuning of electronic structures and significantly enhance catalytic activity beyond conventional porous materials. Herein, we synthesized the synthesis of Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA by anchoring atomically dispersed Cu(II) species onto the open Ce 6 nodes of the Ce-MOF-808 framework, followed by in situ reduction to Cu(I) via ethanol treatment and thermal activation processes. The atomic dispersion and valence transformation of Cu sites on Ce-MOF-808 were confirmed by X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS), high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The resulting Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA exhibited outstanding catalytic performance for the hydrogenation of Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), achieving 100 % conversion, 91.54 % selectivity toward Dihydrodicyclopentadiene (DHDCPD), and 8.45 % selectivity toward Tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene (THDCPD) at 100 °C, 2 MPa. Notably, Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA outperformed other transition metal catalysts (Co/Ce-MOF-808-EA, Ni/Ce-MOF-808-EA and Zn/Ce-MOF-808-EA). For the first time, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, combined with experimental investigations, revealed a low-energy reaction pathway for DCPD hydrogenation, wherein Cu(I) sites, in cooperation with adjacent oxygen atoms, act as bi-active centers to heterolytically cleave H 2 into proton and hydride species (*H δ+ -H δ- ) for subsequent hydrogenation. This study underscores the potential of MOFs as versatile platforms for engineering single-atom catalysts with enhanced catalytic properties.

Within the domain of metal-air battery systems, developing the non - precious metal catalysts featuring extraordinary catalytic activity in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is crucial to the air-cathode. This work unveils a sol-gel engineered synthesis of La 0.9 Ce 0.1 Co 0.1 Mn 0.9 O 3 perovskite via the co-doping strategy, with targeted exploration of its electrochemical behavior and underlying mechanism in Zn-air and Mg-air battery systems. The perovskite La 0.9 Ce 0.1 Co 0.1 Mn 0.9 O 3 has a wealth of catalytically active ORR sites and a mesoporous architecture. The diffusion-limited current density of La 0.9 Ce 0.1 Co 0.1 Mn 0.9 O 3 successfully achieves a 1.2-fold enhancement relative to commercial Pt/C with a low H 2 O 2 yield of <0.27 %, underscoring its superior mass transport kinetics. The maximum power densities of La 0.9 Ce 0.1 Co 0.1 Mn 0.9 O 3 -based primary/secondary zinc - air batteries are 130 and 83 mW cm −2 , respectively, which are on a par with those of Pt/C - based Zinc - air batteries. Whereas, the open - circuit voltage and maximum power density of the primary magnesium - air battery fabricated with 10 wt% KCl as the electrolyte are 1.85 V and 52 mW cm −2 , respectively, which exhibit superiority over Pt/C catalysts. In combination with DFT analyses, the La 0.9 Ce 0.1 Co 0.1 Mn 0.9 O 3 perovskite emerges as a prospective ORR catalyst for metal-air battery realization.

CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol emerges as a promising strategy, offering a dual advantage of carbon dioxide fixation and the production of a valuable liquid fuel and chemical feedstocks. However, its industrial application is limited by the high stability of the CO 2 molecule, resulting in low CO 2 conversion and methanol selectivity. In this work, a series of Ce-doped Cu-ZrO 2 catalysts were synthesized by an oxalic acid gel co-precipitation method, and the effect of Ce/Zr molar ratios on catalyst structure and catalytic performance were investigated. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including XRD, N 2 physical adsorption–desorption, HRTEM, H 2 -TPR, XPS, CO 2 /H 2 -TPD and DFT calculation were employed to analyze the influence of Ce doping on oxygen vacancy concentration, surface basicity distribution, electron transfer, and catalytic performance. The results demonstrate that the CC 0.4 Z catalyst (n(Ce)/n(Zr) = 0.4) forms a Ce 0.4 ZrO solid solution structure, significantly enhancing CuO dispersion and generating abundant Cu δ+ -Ce 0.4 ZrO interfacial sites and oxygen vacancies. These features synergistically promote CO 2 /H 2 adsorption and activation while stabilizing Cu + species. Under optimized reaction conditions (260 ℃, 3.0 MPa, 9000 h −1 ), the CC 0.4 Z catalyst exhibits outstanding performance: CO 2 conversion of 14.6 %, methanol selectivity of 74.1 %, and a methanol yield of 10.8 %. Compared to the unmodified catalyst, this represents an increase of 5.8 percentage points in CO 2 conversion and 6.3 percentage points in methanol yield, providing a novel catalyst design strategy for efficient CO 2 conversion.

Purpose This work aims to investigate the thermal behavior and kinetic characteristics of polyethylene (PE) pyrolysis over Cu/Ce modified ZSM-5. The influences of metal types, particles size of active center and interaction of Cu–Ce species on products distribution are elucidated. Methods Metal-modified ZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by negative pressure impregnation method. Catalytic fast pyrolysis and thermogravimetric experiments were conducted using Py–GC/MS and TG/MS for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of pyrolysis products. Results Morphology characterization indicated the interaction of Cu–Ce species facilitated the regulation of active center size into a nanoparticle scale. The final products were restricted to a carbon number of less than 9 over CuCe/ZSM-5. Cu–Ce modification increased the aliphatic content from 58.5 to 76.1%. Kinetic analysis revealed a remarkable reduction in activation energies during both the intermediate and final stages, where an average decrease of 30% was achieved. Conclusion The synergistic effects of Cu 0 and CeO x facilitated the formation of more short chain olefins by enhancing C–C bonds cleavage activity. Undesired polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were avoided by the optimal steric hindrance of CuCe/ZSM-5. Graphical Abstract
