Wound healing as a fundamental health problem involves complex and dynamic biological processes. Multifunctional dressings that meet the needs of different wound stages can exert synergistic effects throughout the whole-process healing. In this work, inspired by the behavior of spider hunting, reduced polydopamine nanoparticles (rPDA) doped copper-based metal-organic frameworks (Cu-MOF)-hydrogel (GEL-MOF-rPDA) was prepared with anti-infection and promotion of whole-process wound healing. Schiff base cross-linking of dodecyl chitosan -oxidized sodium alginate was used as a biocompatible hydrogel substrate for hemostasis during wound healing and for steric fixation of bacteria during synergistic antibacterial processes. The dodecyl tail can be inserted and fixed on the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane while achieving bacterial capture, blood cell fixation, and skin cell fixation. Cu-MOF and rPDAs played in the hydrogel destroyed the outer membrane of bacteria and release 1O 2 and Cu 2+ . The composite hydrogel had shown an excellent synergistic antibacterial effect with a 99.9% antibacterial rate. Furthermore, the mechanism of promoting whole-process wound healing was analyzed using an infected rat full-thickness skin defect model. The wound closure rate of the composite hydrogel treated wound was found as 92% at ten days. The bio-inspired synergistic antibacterial hydrogel solves the limitation of single-functional hydrogel in promoting whole-process wound healing through initial hemostasis, mid-term anti-infection and anti-inflammatory, late-stage anti-oxidation and promoting angiogenesis and granulation tissue formation. This biomimetic hydrogel paves the way for the design of multifunctional hydrogels and has good potential value in clinical applications.

As a waste of sugarcane, the added value of sugarcane leaves has not been fully utilized, and sugarcane leaf polysaccharide is an important active component of sugarcane leaves. Using new extraction methods to study the structure and biological activity of polysaccharides from sugarcane leaves is of great significance for the development and application of sugarcane leaves. To determine the structural characteristics and biological activities of different acidic sugarcane leaf polysaccharides (ASLPs) extracted by microwave-assisted hot alkali extraction (MALE), three new acidic sugarcane leaf polysaccharides (ASLP-50, ASLP-70 and ASLP-90) were precipitated by ethanol. The structure of ASLPs extracted by MALE contains protein, sulfate and uronic acid . ASLP-50 (195.88 kDa), ASLP-70 (94.62 kDa) and ASLP-90 (16.37 kDa) were acidic polysaccharides composed of mannose , galacturonic acid, glucose, arabinose and fucose . The results of XRD and NMR showed that ASLPs were amorphous polysaccharides composed of α-L-Araf-(1→ main chain, and its branching points were composed of Arap and GalpA residues. In addition, ASLPs showed significant antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and antibacterial activities in vitro . The research and application of ASLPs provide a reference for the recycling of sugarcane leaves, which is conducive to the development of food , agriculture and pharmaceutical industries.

In this work, we report a controllable green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using chlorogenic acid (CGA) as the only reducing and stabilizing agent. The well-dispersed AuNPs are obtained due to the protection of CGA against aggregation. The resulting AuNPs are controllable in size and shape mainly by changing the molar ratio of HAuCl4 to CGA in reductive process. With an increase in CGA concentration, the average size of AuNPs increased, which resulted in different morphologies from spherical to flower-like shapes. The dropping speed of gold precursor is also found to influence the size of AuNPs in different trends. Additionally, the advantages of CGA for synergistic biological activities are demonstrated through the enhanced antioxidant activity of AuNPs with CGA for scavenging of DPPH radicals. The controllable size and shape of nanoparticles are potentially important in nanomedical application.

In this study, the static adsorption–desorption performance of seven macroporous resins for bound polyphenols from mung bean coat dietary fiber (MBDF-BP) was compared, and NKA-9 macroporous resin was preferably screened for subsequent separation and purification. The composition of the purified products was identified and quantified, 44 major compounds were detected, with the main phenolic acid being p -hydroxybenzoic acid, which contained up to 8881.90 μg/g DW. The purification enriched flavonoids, with high contents of catechin (1419.03 μg/g DW) and vitexin (615.88 μg/g DW). The MBDF-BP purified products (pMBDF-BP) produced significant reversible inhibitory activity against α -glucosidase in a mixed-type inhibition manner, which was superior to the reported crude extracts. The antioxidant activity assays showed that pMBDF-BP exhibited distinct scavenging effects on DPPH•, ABTS + •, •OH free radicals, as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Caenorhabditis elegans ( C. elegans ). These results demonstrated that NKA-9 macroporous resin could effectively enrich MBDF-BP extracts and enhance its antioxidant activity, which was promising to explore new sights into the applications of bound polyphenols from mung bean coat dietary fiber in functional foods or dietary supplements, thus contributing to the scientific utilization of mung bean coat resources and increasing the added value of related products.

The Pickering emulsions containing cinnamon essential oil (CEO) stabilized by lignocellulose nanocrystals-tannic acid (LCNC-TA) complexes were used to improve properties of gelatin film. The influences of various volume proportion mixed oil (sunflower oil/CEO 1:0, 5:1, 2:1 and 1:1) were investigated. Introducing CEO reduced the droplet size approximately from 57 to 30 μm, facilitating droplet distribution in film matrix. With increasing CEO proportion, the surface structure of emulsion films became uniform without micropores or cavities, showing good compatibility with film matrix during film-forming process. Furthermore, increasing CEO proportion improved tensile strength (TS, 3.75–4.61 MPa) and water vapor permeability (WVP, 9.16 × 10 −12 –7.61 × 10 −12 g·cm −1 s −1 Pa −1 ) of emulsion films. Besides, the UV blocking, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of emulsion films improved as CEO proportion increased. Compared with the control gelatin film, the loss of CEO in emulsion films effectively decreased through pre-embedding approach by Pickering emulsion method.

A series of natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were prepared with choline chloride, betaine, and a variety of natural organic acids in order to find new environmentally-friendly green solvents to replace the traditional solvents. The NADESs were employed to extract flavonoids fromPotentilla fruticosaL. (PFL) with the help of ultrasound. The eutectic solvent diluted with an appropriate amount of water improved the extraction ability of flavonoids due to the decrease of solution viscosity. The microstructure of the raw sample and the samples subjected to ultrasonic bath in different solutions were observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) to determine the role of the NADESs in the extraction process. The DPPH method and glucose consumption method were used to study the antioxidant and hypoglycemic ability of flavonoid compounds inPFL. Single factor method and response surface methodology (RSM) were designed to analyze the effects of three extraction parameters, including solvent/solid ratio, ultrasonic power, and extraction time, on the extraction yield, antioxidant capacity, and hypoglycemic capacity, and the corresponding second-order polynomial prediction models were established. The optimal extraction conditions for the maximum extraction yield, antioxidant capacity, and hypoglycemic capacity were predicted by RSM, and the reliability of RSM simulation results was verified by a one-off experiment. Keywords:natural deep eutectic solvents;ultrasound-assisted extraction;Potentilla fruticosaL.;response surface methodology

The objectives of this study are to optimize the ultrasonic microwave synergistic extraction (UMSE) of anthocyanins from Lycium ruthenicum Murr (ALRM) by response surface methodology and also to investigate its antioxidant activity in vitro. Based on the single-factor experiments, we optimized the ALRM extraction process by response surface methodology assuming anthocyanin extraction rate as the response point and microwave power, ultrasonic power, extraction time, and liquid-to-material ratio as the investigating parameters as well as performed correlation analysis between DPPH·, ·OH, ABTS·, O2-· radical scavenging potential, and ferric-reducing antioxidant power. The results showed that the influence on anthocyanin yield was in the order of liquid to material ratio > microwave power > ultrasonic power > extraction time; the elicited extraction conditions were: ultrasonic power 216.253 W, microwave power 89.311 W, time 26.141 min, liquid to material ratio 17.294 mL/g, the forecast content was 10.157 mg/g, while the actual value was consistent with the preview value. Meanwhile, ALRM obtainable by UMSE was identified as yielding favorable antioxidant properties firstly, when the concentration of purified ALRM (ALRM-1) was increased, the antioxidant capacity was strengthened. Theoretically, we provide a basis for the extraction procedure of ALRM and its antioxidant activity, which serves as a promising antioxidant and free radical scavenger.

Abstract Plant essential oils have good antibacterial properties. However, due to their instability, there is still a particular gap with traditional antibacterial agents. Herein, polyvinyl alcohol/gelatin composite films were prepared by encapsulating the natural active antibacterial substance cinnamaldehyde with starch stearate (CMS-SA-CO) as an antibacterial agent. The structure, mechanical properties, degradability, antioxidant, antibacterial, and preservation properties of PGCC films were investigated. The results showed that the addition of CMS-SA-CO improved the film's tensile properties, hydrophobicity, and antioxidant activity. At the same time, the inhibition rates of E. coli and S. aureus were 98.54% and 95.31%, respectively. The prepared polyvinyl alcohol/gelatin composite films have good mechanical properties and excellent UV-blocking properties. The water degradation of the film showed that the degradation rate of PGCC reached 70%. Preservation experiments on cherry tomatoes showed that the PGCC film exhibited a certain freshness effect, maintaining a high acidity and soluble solid mass and a low weight loss rate. Therefore, composite films based on polyvinyl alcohol/gelatin and CMS-SA-CO have excellent application value. Graphical abstract

Zingiber officinale (ZO) is a traditional food condiment. The essential oils of Z. officinale (ZOEOs) are known to have multiple bioactivities. In this study, gas chromatography mass spectrometer (GC-MS) analytical method was used to identify active ingredient present in ZOEOs. A total of 41 compounds were identified in ZOEOs. Major components in ZOEOs were zingiberene (19.71%), (+)-β-cedrene (12.85%), farnesene (12.17%), α-curcumene (10.18%) and β-elemene (3.54%). Experimental results of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13 acetate (TPA) induced ear swelling validation mice model showed that ZOEOs treatment has better anti-inflammatory effect compared with ibuprofen (positive control) at high concentrations. Histological and immunohistochemical analysis showed that ZOEOs significantly decreased COX-2, IL-6 and NF-κB expression in a dose dependent manner. The mRNA levels of COX-2 and NF-κB were also down regulated by the application of ZOEOs. This indicated that ZOEOs exhibited positive effects in ear skin protection. Antibacterial experimental results showed that EOZOs had anti-bacterial effects on Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. DPPH radical scavenging, A549 cell line and LNCaP cell line inhibition results indicated that ZOEOs exhibited potential antioxidant and anti-tumor properties. The findings of these study provide scientific basis on therapeutic use of ZO in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

It is generally believed that freshDendrobium officinale(FDO) has more significant pharmacological activity than driedDendrobium officinale(DDO); however, the difference has not been clearly shown. Our study compared their antioxidant properties both in vitro and in vivo, and the molecular weight arrangement and monosaccharide composition of the freshDendrobium officinalepolysaccharides (FDOPs) and the driedDendrobium officinalepolysaccharides (DDOPs) were analyzed by HPLC-GPC and GC-MS. The results showed that the FDO and its polysaccharides had more significant effects on scavenging DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radicals than the DDO. In addition, both the FDO and DDO significantly reduced lipid peroxidation levels and increased the SOD, T-AOC, CAT, and GSH levels in mice with acute liver damage caused by CCl4, while the FDO and its polysaccharides were more effective. Histopathological analysis further verified the protective effect of the Dendrobium polysaccharides on CCl4-induced liver injury. The determination of the polysaccharides revealed that the polysaccharide and mannose contents of the FDO were significantly higher than their dried counterparts, and the homogeneous arrangement of the polysaccharides in the FDO was degraded into three polysaccharide fragments of different molecular weights in the DDO. Overall, our data identified differences in the antioxidant activities of the FDO and DDO, as well as the reasons for these differences. Keywords:Dendrobium officinale;antioxidant activity;polysaccharide;mannose;monosaccharide composition

Antioxidant peptides from natural polymer collagen are highly desirable and their ability to coordinate with minerals will provide new leads for the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases. Here, we tested the changes of structures and functional properties of bovine bone collagen peptides (BBCP) after magnesium chelation. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) results revealed that Mg(II) chelated with BBCP mainly via amino nitrogen and carboxyl oxygen atoms. The fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) results indicated that Mg(II) could induce and stabilize the conformational structures, and change the amino acid distribution on the surfaces of BBCP. The chelation of BBCP and Mg(II) led to the improvement of radical scavenging activities, and enhanced the intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities and GSH levels, thus demonstrating higher protective and reparative effects against H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative damage. This work provides mechanistic insights for further development of peptide-magnesium chelates for oxidative stress mitigation.

Apple polyphenols are abundantly present in apple pomace, and their applications are limited by the low efficiency of traditional extraction methods and the tendency to pollute the environment. Starch nanoparticles (SNPs) have received much attention due to their renewable, low cost and biocompatibility. The aim of this study was to prepare SNPs of different sizes from corn starch using ultrasonic-assisted chemical precipitation with adsorption of apple polyphenols, investigate the relationship between particle size and adsorption, while experiments were performed to assess antioxidant activity, simulate in vivo digestion and polyphenol release. The results showed that the smaller the particle size of SNPs the higher the adsorption of polyphenols, and the combination of characterization and adsorption kinetics showed that this adsorption was a physicochemical binding process. DPPH radical scavenging activity showed that polyphenols bound to SNPs were more stable than free polyphenols. In vitro simulation of digestion and release processes, SNPs loaded with polyphenols showed better anti-digestive properties, polyphenols are released in small amounts in gastric juices and continuously in intestinal juices. Our results provide a theoretical basis for the direct separation of polyphenols from fruit pomace polyphenol extracts using nanomaterials and the industrial utilization of polyphenol products.
