Aiming at controllable modulating metal−support interactions to achieve an optimal trade-off of geometric/electronic effect in supported catalysts, we developed a reliable approach based on the typical 2D material layered double hydroxide (LDHs). A series of TiO x /Pd/MgTiAl-MMO-X catalysts with adjustable interfacial effect were acquired by loading PdCl 4 2− precursor and further preciously adjusting the topological reduction temperature, based on the regulatory effect of Mg–O–Ti–O–Al–O structure in the support on the reducibility and mobility of Ti 4+ . The catalysts with semi-continuous and accessible TiO x /Pd interface, confirmed by AC-HAADF-STEM, CO chemisorption, XPS, exhibit much higher H 2 O 2 yield than the catalyst with over-encapsulation structure. The TiO x /Pd/MgTiAl-MMO-450 catalysts possessed optimal geometric and electronic structure exhibited the highest activity with TOF of 9.75 s −1 , excellent H 2 O 2 yield of 11.4 g/L, as well as good stability.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are widely proposed for treating persistent pollutants by the ⋅ OH radicals generated from H 2 O 2 decomposition. However, their broad applications in practical settings have been hampered by the low efficiency of H 2 O 2 decomposition. Here, we report that metal sulfides (MoS 2 , WS 2 , Cr 2 S 3 , CoS 2 , PbS, or ZnS) can serve as excellent co-catalysts to greatly increase the efficiency of H 2 O 2 decomposition and significantly decrease the required dosage of H 2 O 2 and Fe 2+ in AOPs. Unsaturated S atoms on the surface of metal sulfides can capture protons to form H 2 S and expose metallic active sites with reductive properties to accelerate the rate-limiting step of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ conversion. The efficiency of AOPs involving co-catalysts can be further enhanced by visible-light illumination thanks to the sensitization of organic pollutants. This discovery is expected to drive great advances in the use of AOPs for large-scale practical applications such as environmental remediation.

Photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production offers a sustainable route for solar-to-chemical conversion, yet practical applications are often hindered by inefficient mass transport and poor catalyst recoverability. Herein, a rationally designed resorcinol–formaldehyde/sodium alginate (RF/SA) hydrogel featuring an interpenetrating hydrophilic-hydrophobic network was proposed that synergistically enhances catalytic performance while enabling facile recycling. In this hydrogel, the hydrophobic RF regions can enrich molecular O 2 and provide photo-generated electrons, while the hydrophilic sodium alginate-polyvinylpyrrolidone (SA-PVP) network maintains a hydrated microenvironment, thereby facilitating reactant accessibility which the biphasic structure achieves a H 2 O 2 yield of up to 634 μmol g −1 h −1 in pure water, twice that of the original RF powder, while retaining significant activity in tap water and lake water. Mechanistic studies confirm a reaction pathway dominated by 2e − oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), with a minor contribution from water oxidation reaction (WOR). Crucially, the hydrogel form overcomes the agglomeration and separation limitations inherent in powder catalysts which enables facile separation and recovery, with an activity retention rate exceeding 93% after four cycles, demonstrating good reusability. This study provides a roadmap for optimizing photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production and designing photocatalysts that combine high efficiency with practical applicability.

Contact-electro-catalysis (CEC) holds promise for in vivo therapeutics but is constrained by the non-biodegradable nature of typical catalyst materials, raising biosafety concerns. To address this, we developed a biodegradable CEC catalyst using nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp). Its surface polarization was enhanced by modulating OH − ion orientation via treatment with p-fluorobenzoic acid. This polarization improved nHAp's crystallinity, as shown by a decrease in the (002) X-ray diffraction peak full width at half maximum from 0.29 to 0.21, and increased its surface potential by 1.97-fold. The polarized nHAp demonstrated significantly enhanced reactive oxygen species generation: ·OH and 1 O 2 production increased by 1.9-fold and 1.1-fold, respectively, and H 2 O 2 yield reached 340.2 μM/h—approximately 10 times higher than corona-poled nHAp. Notably, under hypoxic saline conditions mimicking pathological environments, polarized nHAp produced sufficient H 2 O 2 to meet the threshold for effective cancer cell ablation, highlighting its therapeutic potential.

The regulation of nitrogen distribution in COFs led to a marked improvement in photocatalytic activity. • PDE-PT achieved a high H 2 O 2 evolution rate of 5015 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 under air without any sacrificial agent. • Concentrated N sites in PDE-PT drove D-A separation and charge migration, improving photorespone. • Concentrated nitrogen distribution induced a charge-transfer state, promoting dual-pathway ORR/WOR for H 2 O 2 production. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising photocatalysts for H 2 O 2 production, yet the charge separation and transport remain a major bottleneck restricting their photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, we proposed a strategy for regulating nitrogen sites to construct a delocalized electronic structure across the COF framework, which facilitates intramolecular charge transfer and suppresses charge recombination. Three COF materials with distinct nitrogen sites were designed and synthesized, namely PDE-PB (nitrogen-free), PDE-PA (pyridine nitrogen), and PDE-PT (triazine nitrogen). Concentrated triazine nitrogen sites in PDE-PT induced donor-acceptor (D-A) separation and charge migration, enhancing optical absorption and photocurrent response. Consequently, PDE-PT delivered a H 2 O 2 production of 5015 µmol·g −1 ·h −1 under pure water and air conditions, markedly surpassing PDE-PA and PDE-PB. Notably, PDE-PT maintained a high H 2 O 2 yield of over 3600 µmol·g −1 ·h −1 in real water matrices, highlighting robust adaptability. Additionally, EPR/scavenger experiments confirmed that PDE-PT utilized both ORR and WOR pathways, with the ORR pathway being the dominant contributor (> 97%) and the WOR pathway contributing approximately 2.6%. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further revealed that the outstanding performance of PDE-PT stemmed from both the intrinsic electronic structure of triazine and its concentrated configuration, which induced a typical charge-transfer (CT) state. This work provides insights into the influence of nitrogen sites on H 2 O 2 photosynthesis and offers perspectives for catalyst design. N-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 microflowers synthesized via one-step solvothermal method using DMF as N source. • N doping introduces sulfur vacancies and negatively shifts the conduction band of ZIS. • Optimized N30-ZIS achieves H 2 O 2 production of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 under visible light. • EPR spin-trapping confirms the exclusive two-electron ORR pathway with ·O 2 − as key intermediate. • Structure-defect-activity relationship established for N-doped sulfide photocatalysts. The photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) via the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) represents a sustainable alternative to the energy-intensive anthraquinone process. However, the efficiency of this approach is limited by the rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers and a lack of active surface sites. Herein, nitrogen-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 (N-ZIS) microflowers were synthesized via a one-step solvothermal method using N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF) as the nitrogen source. The optimized N30-ZIS sample (with 30 mL of DMF) achieves an H 2 O 2 production rate of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 under visible light irradiation (λ ≥ 420 nm), which is 1.5 times that of pristine ZIS. Nitrogen doping introduces sulfur vacancies and modulates the electronic band structure, leading to enhanced charge separation and a more negative conduction band potential. Mechanistic studies confirm that H 2 O 2 generation proceeds via a two-electron oxygen reduction pathway involving ·O 2 − as the key intermediate. This work demonstrates that controlled nitrogen doping is an effective strategy to boost the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production performance of ZIS-based materials. Nitrogen-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 (N-ZIS) microflowers are synthesized via a one-step solvothermal route using DMF as the N source. The optimized N30-ZIS delivers a visible-light H 2 O 2 production rate of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 (1.5 times that of pristine ZIS). Nitrogen doping creates sulfur vacancies and downshifts the conduction band, boosting charge separation and enabling a two-electron O 2 reduction pathway with ·O 2 − as the key intermediate. This work establishes controlled N-doping as a facile strategy to enhance photocatalytic ORR for sustainable H 2 O 2 synthesis. Dopamine (DA) as an important biomarker for assessing mood and neurological disorders, hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) serves as a marker of oxidative stress and antimicrobial activity. The levels of DA and H 2 O 2 are associated with the development of serious neurological diseases. Therefore, precise prompt and portable detection for DA and H 2 O 2 is of great importance for clinical diagnosis and treatment, but maintaining a major challenge. In this work, bimetallic nanozyme CuMo nanosheets (CMNS) with peroxidase(POD)-like activity were fabricated by using tryptophan as ligand, and achieved sequential detection of H 2 O 2 and DA via a sequential process with limits of detection at 4.7 μM and 0.11 μM, respectively. A portable smartphone-based swab sensing system was also developed for rapid, on-site, and visual monitoring of DA with limit of detection (LOD) of 0.587 μM. This platform performed portable sensing DA with high accuracy in serum and milk samples, achieving recoveries between 93.02% and 108.2% with a relative standard deviation below 3.02%, indicated the excellent environmental tolerance. A molecular logic gate was also designed to understand and effectively apply the sequential sensing process. Overall, this work established a highly sensitive, selective, and portable colorimetric biosensing platform based on bimetallic nanozymes, demonstrated significant potential for practical application in diagnosis and biomarker monitoring. Such bimetallic nanozyme have great potential for future visible sensing in environmental and medical applications.

Novel Z-scheme heterojunctions for photocatalytic breakthroughs. • Dual functions: antibiotic degradation and H 2 O 2 generation. • Integrate environmental remediation with resource conversion. • Optimize key factors for balanced dual functionality. To address antibiotic pollution, high carrier recombination, and the risks associated with externally applied hydrogen peroxide, this study constructs a LaFeO 3 /CdS Z-scheme heterojunction on halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) via hydrothermal-calcination. HNTs prevent nanoparticle agglomeration, while the Z-scheme mechanism reduces recombination and preserves redox activity, enabling synergistic antibiotic degradation and H 2 O 2 production. The HLC catalyst achieves 91.73% tetracycline degradation, 333 μmol/L H 2 O 2 yield, and 80% E. coli antibacterial rate. It performs well under various water qualities and coexisting salts. Mechanistic analysis indicates that tetracycline degradation is primarily driven by the superoxide anion radical as the core active species, whereas hydrogen peroxide generation is hole-dominated; both processes are achieved through the synergistic interaction of multiple active species with photo-generated electrons. Furthermore, in situ-generated H 2 O 2 can undergo self-Fenton reaction with Fe 2+ in the material, further enhancing antibiotic degradation capacity. This study is the first to integrate HNTs with a LaFeO 3 /CdS Z-scheme heterostructure, overcoming the limitations of traditional catalysts. It achieves dual benefits-environmental remediation and in-situ green oxidant synthesis-offering a new design paradigm for low-cost, high-performance multifunctional photocatalysts with strong practical potential for water pollution control. single-mediator delivery with limited release duration. Here, a multifunctional
hydrogel dressing, HEVCTM, is developed by free radical copolymerization
of N -hydroxyethyl acrylamide (HEAA) with a hydrogen
peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) releasing donor (VIM-CAT) and
a hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) releasing donor (TBA-MA). The
hydrogel enables temporally programmed release, with rapid H 2 O 2 delivery within 24 h for early stage antibacterial
action and sustained H 2 S release for up to 7 days to alleviate
inflammation and promote angiogenesis during later healing stages.
HEVCTM exhibits potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (99.6%) and Staphylococcus aureus (99.97%), significantly enhances macrophage
M2 polarization (52.4%), and shows favorable antioxidant, hemostatic,

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plays a very vital role in industrial and biological processes, but its high concentration may cause health hazards. Therefore, accurate detection of H2O2is crucial for chemical and biological sensing applications. In this work, a ratiometric fluorescent probe was developed using a core–shell structural silica nanoparticle for the detection of H2O2. Firstly, a silica core structure with red fluorescence emission was constructed by encapsulating a Schiff base compound (SD). Afterwards, a mesoporous silica shell was fabricated, and the AIE featured fluorophore with a H2O2response character was covalently linked on the surface of the mesoporous shell layer. As recognition sites on the shell, blue-emitting TB molecules specifically identified H2O2through their phenylboronic acid ester group. The blue fluorescence of core–shell structural nanoprobes would be quenched in the presence of H2O2, while red fluorescence remained unchanged, ensuring the high sensitivity and specificity of the ratio sensing. This design has demonstrated significant potential for the reliable monitoring of hydrogen peroxide in biological and environmental applications.

Phosphates and organic matter usually coexist in secondary effluent, adversely affecting the stable control of water quality. Therefore, achieving the simultaneous removal of phosphates and organic matter from water bodies is significant. This study reports an excellent Fe₃Ce₁Oₓ(CA) functional material synthesized via a simple one-step co-precipitation method for hydroquinone (HQ) degradation through a Fenton-like reaction while simultaneously adsorbing phosphate. Experimental results show that the Fe₃Ce₁Oₓ(CA) materials exhibit a 92 % HQ degradation efficiency and an 80 % phosphate adsorption efficiency. Systematic characterization confirms that the Fe–Ce synergistic effect enhances the Fe(II) content, significantly promoting H₂O₂ activation. Electron paramagnetic resonance and radical scavenger experiments reveal that ¹O₂, O₂ • ⁻, and •OH play essential roles in organic degradation, with •OH being the dominant reactive species. Introducing citric acid increases the Ce(III) content in the Fe–Ce bimetallic oxide composite, enhancing its phosphate adsorption performance. This material successfully achieves both HQ degradation and phosphate removal, and these findings suggest that the Fe₃Ce₁Oₓ(CA)/H₂O₂ system can potentially treat wastewater with combined organic and phosphate pollution. This approach, which achieves multifunctionality in water treatment by regulating the composition of environmental functional materials, enhances the practical application potential of such materials.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) not only is widely used in industrial processes but also participates in many biological reactions. However, excessive levels cause great harm to the human body. Here, we designed a sensitive and autofluorescence-free persistent luminescence (PL) method for H2O2 detection based on persistent luminescence nanoparticles (PLNPs) and specific chemical reaction. In this approach, manganese dioxide (MnO2) shell was coated on the surface of PLNPs to construct detection probe PLNPs@MnO2. The quenched PL of the PLNPs@MnO2 could be turned on by H2O2, and the restored PL was positively correlated with H2O2 in a certain concentration range. The developed method was linear in the range of 0–5 μmol/L with a detection limit of 0.079 μmol/L in solution and a linear response range of 0–1000 μmol/L for naked-eye detection on flat plates. Therefore, the detection system is suitable not only for the traditional solution state but also for naked eye detection on a flat plate, allowing for rapid inspection on site in resource-limited areas. The applicability of the developed method was demonstrated by analyzing bottled purified water, milk and contact lens solution samples for H2O2 with the recoveries of 90.56% to 109.73%.
