The rheological properties of seawater with the addition of surfactant additive (cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC)/sodium salicylate (NaSal)) are measured at different temperatures, including shear viscosity and first normal stress difference ( N 1 ). The effects of the temperature, the salts, and CTAC/NaSal concentration on the rheological properties of test solutions are investigated, and the corresponding influence mechanisms are analyzed. It shows that the addition of salt can decrease the shear viscosities of the solutions, and also decrease N 1 and even eliminate the sharp augment of N 1 above a certain shear rate. The growing elasticity can be characterized by the increase of the initial shear rate for shear-thickening inception. High temperature can also remove the sharp increase of N 1 with salt. Nevertheless, the increase of CTAC/NaSal concentration can withstand the elimination of the sharp augment of N 1 .

Highly emissive copper halide complexes with a bidentate phosphine ligand have been paid much attention. Here, a series of four-coordinate mononuclear copper(I) halide complexes containing bi- and mono-dentate phosphine ligands, [CuX (dpmb)(PPh 3 )] (dpmb = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)–4,5-dimethylbenzene, X = I ( 1 ), Br ( 2 ) and Cl ( 3 )), were synthesized, and their molecular structures and photophysical properties were investigated. These complexes exhibit intense blue emission in the solid state at room temperature and have peak emission wavelengths at 464–479 nm with microsecond lifetimes ( τ = 3.5−4.9 μs; Φ = 0.23−0.52). The emission of the complexes 1–3 mainly originates from MLCT, XLCT and intraligand transitions. Three complexes display moderate thermal stability.

Purpose Radioiodine is an inevitable product of nuclear fission during nuclear fuel reprocessing and nuclear accident and finally is brought back to surface soil by fallout. Iodine is very active and mobile in soil and may adversely affect human health due to bioaccumulation through the food chain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immobilization efficiency of biochar on the mobility of iodine (I − ) and iodate (IO 3
− ) in soil near Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. Materials and methods Biochar was produced from a widely available agricultural waste (rice husk) at a pyrolysis temperature of 350 °C. Biochar was applied to the soil at five application rates (0, 0.33, 0.67, 1, and 1.33%). The affinities of I − and IO 3
− with soil/biochar, the mobility of I − and IO 3
− in biochar-amended soil, and effects of soil pH and ionic strength on immobilization of biochar were assessed by the standard batch sorption and desorption tests. Results and discussion Rice husk-derived biochar exhibited strong affinities for I − and IO 3
− as compared to that of soil, with immobilization ability ( K
biochar / K
soil ) of 936.6 and 309.9, respectively. Results showed that addition of 1% biochar to soil could significantly reduce desorption of I − and IO 3
− from soil. In addition, immobilization efficiency of biochar was not affected by soil physicochemical properties such as pH and ionic strength. Conclusions Results suggested that the easily synthesized biochar could be a promising and environmentally friendly amendment for the efficient immobilization of soil I − and IO 3
− .

The simultaneous enhancement of lipophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis has emerged as a promising strategy for lipid lowering. The transcription factor EB (TFEB) exhibits a dual role, whereby it facilitates the degradation of lipid droplets (LDs) through the process of lipophagy while simultaneously stimulating mitochondrial biogenesis to support the utilization of lipophagy products. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of astragaloside I (AS I) on hyperlipidemia and elucidate its underlying mechanism. AS I improved serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduced hepatic steatosis and lipid accumulation in db/db mice. AS I enhanced the fluorescence colocalization of LDs and autophagosomes and promoted the proteins and genes related to the autolysosome. Moreover, AS I increased the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis-related proteins and genes, indicating that AS I promoted lipophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis. Mechanistically, AS I inhibits the protein level of p-TFEB (ser211) expression and promotes TFEB nuclear translocation. The activation of TFEB by AS I was impeded upon the introduction of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) agonist MHY1485. The inhibition of p-mTOR by AS I and the activation of TFEB were no longer observed after administration of the Akt agonist SC-79, which indicated that AS I activated TFEB to promote lipophagy-dependent on the Akt/mTOR pathway and may be a potentially effective pharmaceutical and food additive for the treatment of hyperlipidemia.

Low-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid lead halide perovskites have attracted much interest in solid-state lighting and displays, but the toxicity and instability of lead halide are obstacles to their industrial applications, which must be overcome. As an alternative, Cu(I)-based hybrid metal halides have emerged as a new type of luminescent material owing to their diversified structure, adjustable luminescence, low toxicity and low cost. Herein, we report three one-dimensional (1D) hybrid Cu(I)-based halides with the general formula ACu2Br4 (A = [(Me)4-Pipz]2+ and [BuDA]2+ and [TMEDA]2+). These 1D hybrid Cu(I) halides display stable broadband blue emission with maximum emission peaks in the range of 445–474 nm and the highest photoluminescence quantum yield of 37.8%. Furthermore, in-depth experimental and theoretical investigations revealed that the broadband blue emissions originate from the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons. Most importantly, there is no structural degradation and attenuation of emission intensity even after continuously soaking these halides in water for at least two months, demonstrating their ultra-high anti-water stability. Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that a large number of weak hydrogen bonds can protect the inorganic skeleton from degradation due to water. This work provides a new strategy for the design of water-stable Cu(I)-based halides with efficient blue emission and wide potential applications in humid environments.

A series of the luminescent Re(I) complexes, [Re(bpy-(CH2OH)2)(CO)3(L1)], [Re(bpy-(CH2OH)2)(CO)3(L2)]+, [Re(bpy-(CH2OH)2)(CO)3(L3)]+, and [Re(bpy-(CH2OH)2)(CO)3(L4)] ((bpy-(CH2OH)2 = 4,4′-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,2′-bipyridine; L1 = 4-pyridylmethyl lipoate; L2 = [1,2]dithiolane-3-pentyl 4-pyrindylacetate; L3 = 4-pyridinyl-methanol; L4 = 4-pyridinylmethyl pentanoate), were synthesized and characterized. The photophysical properties and cytotoxicity of the complexes and the sensing of esterase based on the gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) modified with the complexes were also studied. The intense luminescence of the Re(I) complexes was quenched efficiently by Au-NPs due to the energy and electron transfer between the Re(I) fluorophores and Au-NPs. Upon addition of esterase to the mixture, the emission of the Re(I) complexes 1 and 2 system was enhanced significantly by the release of the Re(I) complexes from the surface of the Au-NPs.

Currently, DNA topoisomerase I (Topo I) inhibitors constitute a family of antitumor agents with demonstrated clinical effects on human malignancies. However, the clinical uses of these agents have been greatly limited due to their severe toxic effects. Therefore, it is urgent to find and develop novel low toxic Topo I inhibitors. In recent years, during our ongoing research on natural antitumor products, a collection of low cytotoxic or non-cytotoxic compounds with various structures were identified from marine invertebrates, plants, and their symbiotic microorganisms. In the present study, new Topo I inhibitors were discovered from low cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic natural products by virtual screening with docking simulations in combination with bioassay test. In total, eight potent Topo I inhibitors were found from 138 low cytotoxic or non-cytotoxic compounds from coral-derived fungi and plants. All of these Topo I inhibitors demonstrated activities against Topo I-mediated relaxation of supercoiled DNA at the concentrations of 5–100 µM. Notably, the flavonoids showed higher Topo I inhibitory activities than other compounds. These newly discovered Topo I inhibitors exhibited structurally diverse and could be considered as a good starting point for the development of new antitumor lead compounds. Keywords:virtual screening;molecular docking;Topo I inhibitor;low toxic;natural product

Pesticides abuse has drawn considerable attention in agriculture, environment and food safety in recent years. How to selective and on-site detection of pesticide residues with rapid operation and low cost is still a hot topic. In this work, we report a novel method for the detection of pesticide thiram using phosphorescent Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (ZnS:Mn 2+ QDs) combined by an affinity reaction between thiram and Ag + ions. On the one hand, the phosphorescence of as-prepared ZnS:Mn 2+ QDs at 590 nm can be effectively quenched by Ag + ions due to the direct cation-exchange reaction at the surface of QDs. On the other hand, the presence of thiram can inhibit phosphorescence quenching through the formation of stable Ag-thiram complex. This inhibition resulted in a linear recovery in emission intensity with increasing the amount of thiram, which enables thiram residues to be identified under the UV light illumination. In buffer condition, thiram could be detected within the concentration range of 50 nM–2.5 μM with a detection limit of 25 nM. Moreover, the proposed method has been successfully applied to thiram residues identification at fresh fruit peels. The investigation provides a profile for instant and visual detection of surface residues using doped quantum dots.

For the separation of an ethylene/ethane mixture, a novel copper(I)-based supported ionic liquid membrane (SILM) with high permeability has been fabricated. This SILM was prepared from a polyvinylidene fluoride microporous membrane impregnating the copper(I) based IL which formed by the cuprous chloride (CuCl) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim][Cl]). Scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and time of flight mass spectroscopy were used to characterize the SILM. Pure and mixed gas permeation experiments were carried out to investigate the influences of ILs composition, trans-membrane pressure, temperature, and time upon the separation performance. This SILM showed comparable C2H4 permselectivity but outstanding permeability with a long-term stability beyond the reported polymeric membrane upper bound. At the CuCl/[Bmim][Cl] ratio of 2, the C2H4 permeability and permselectivity reached 2653 barrer and 11.8, respectively. Furthermore, the facilitated transport effect was studied by 1H NMR and quantum mechanical calculations. The anionic species formed by sp hybridization of Cu+ possesses unfilled attachment sites to selectively complex with C2H4 and weaken the interionic hydrogen bond of [Bmim][Cl], thus lowering the system’s viscosity.

Three Schiff base ligands containing two pyridine rings, S1, S2, and S3, show strong gelation abilities with AgNO3 in several pure or mixed solvents at room temperature. 1H NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements not only demonstrated the coordination interaction between silver ion and nitrogen atom of the pyridine ring of the S2 ligand in S2-Ag metallogel, but also showed that hydrogen bonding contributes to the formation of the metallogels. In particular, S2-Ag metallogel shows a super smart and fully reversible thixotropic property, which has been rarely reported before in metallogels. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that S2-Ag metallogel in DMF takes a mixture of hexagonal and tetragonal packing modes. On the basis of the results of XRD and mass spectrometry analysis, a possible structure evolution process for the gel was proposed. And this model was further demonstrated by the results of polarizing microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis of S2-Ag metallogel.

In this study, we describe the successful fabrication of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) within Ag(I)-AMTD metal-organic gel matrix. The resulting composite (AgNPs@Ag(I)-AMTD) was characterized by 1 H NMR, IR, SPR, SEM, TEM, EDX, XPS, and XRD. This material exhibited a remarkable and durable activity for the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) and other nitroarenes by NaBH 4 in aqueous solution. This method affords a facile means of embedding the active silver nanoparticles within the metal-organic gel matrix and offers the necessary stability of the resulting silver nanostructure for catalytic transformation.

We reported a sensitive voltammetric sensor for Sudan I determination by modifying glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)/β-cyclodextrin conjugate. The cyclic voltammetry results showed that the modified GCE exhibited strong catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction of Sudan I with a well-defined cyclic voltammetric peak at -673 mV. Differential pulse voltammetry measurement showed that the response current exhibited a linear range between 50 nM and 5 μM, and the detection limit was as low as 2.22 nM (S/N = 3). The enhanced electrochemical performance of the fabricated sensor was attributed to the combination of the excellent electrocatalytic properties of SWCNTs and the molecular recognition ability of β-cyclodextrin to Sudan I. The sensor was successfully applied to determine Sudan I in real food samples with satisfactory results.
