The practical deployment of magnesium-based alloys, despite their attractive hydrogen-storage capacity and economical advantage, faces critical barriers in the form of high dehydrogenation temperatures and inadequate sorption kinetics. To overcome these barriers, a two-dimensional layered La x @Ti 3 C 2 -derived catalyst was therefore developed, which exhibits high catalytic activity toward the Mg-4Ni-2Y alloy. The Mg-4Ni-2Y + 10 wt % La 0.2 @Ti 3 C 2 composite not only lowered the onset absorption/desorption temperatures to 23.3 ° C and 265.5 ° C but also enabled the composite to achieve superior sorption kinetics, absorbing 4.80 wt % H 2 in 1 min at 150 ° C and releasing 5.16 wt % H 2 in 4 min at 350 ° C. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy (E a ) was substantially reduced to 85.22 ± 2.38 kJ/mol for the composite, thereby decreasing the dehydrogenation temperature and accelerating the kinetics. Systematic analysis suggests that the catalytic enhancement is primarily associated with highly dispersed Ti 0 species, which are proposed to act as the primary active sites for hydrogen dissociation and recombination. La decoration is suggested to serve as an electronic promoter, modulating the electronic structure of Ti sites and stabilizing the interfacial environment. This synergistic Ti-La interaction facilitates hydrogen activation and interfacial transfer without altering the intrinsic Mg/MgH 2 thermodynamics, thereby significantly accelerating hydrogen sorption kinetics.

In this study, the incorporation of Mg2+ induced the transformation of MnO2 from the original cubic [MnO6] octahedron to a flattened conformation (FLA-MnO2). The flattened conformation mitigated structural deformation of the [Mn3+·O6] octahedron by inhibiting the J–T aberration during the reduction process of Mn4+, thereby improving the selective adsorption capacity of lithium. When used in hybrid capacitive deionization (HCDI), FLA-MnO2 exhibited a high Li+ adsorption capacity of 30.14 mg g−1 in 32.74 mg L−1 Li+ ion solution, with low energy consumption of 0.45 Wh g−1. Notably, the FLA-MnO2‖AC HCDI cell exhibited high stability, maintaining 82% of its capacity over 100 cycles. This was evidenced by the 82% capacity retention and low Mn loss (1.3%) over 100 cycles. Finally, the excellent selective extraction performance of Li+ ions was demonstrated in Lop Nor, the low-grade original brine of the XieLi salt flats. The calculated separation factors for Li+/Na+, Li+/K+, Li+/Ca2+, and Li+/Mg2+ reached impressive values of 4.37, 3.75, 3.24, and 2.11, respectively, making the Lop Nor a candidate electrode for lithium extraction from low-grade raw brines.

Two dual-cation transition metal fluorides K 2 TiF 6 and K 2 NbF 7 are introduced into Mg(BH 4 ) 2 by ball-milling to catalyze the dehydrogenation of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . According to the DSC and TPD results, the onset dehydrogenation temperature of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 doped with K 2 TiF 6 and K 2 NbF 7 are remarkably reduced to 105.4 and 118.0 °C, respectively. Meanwhile, both the K 2 TiF 6 and K 2 NbF 7 catalyzed systems can release more than 6.4 wt% H 2 under 280 °C, showing an improvement in dehydrogenation kinetics. In addition, the reversible capacity of the Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –3%K 2 TiF 6 system is 2.7 wt% at 280 °C in 250 min, which is enhanced comparing to that of pristine Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transformed infrared and 11 B nuclear magnetic resonance investigations reveal that the K 2 TiF 6 actually acts as a catalytic precursor to react with Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , forming active hydrides of KBH 4 and TiH 2 , which further serve as catalyzing agents to facilitate the re-generation of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 from intermediates under moderate conditions.

The co-occurrence of arsenic and fluoride in the water environment has led to many health concerns for living beings. Simultaneous removal of such ions is crucial to the safety of water resources , and biochar has been extensively engaged to address this issue. Here four magnetic biochars (mBCs) including pristine magnetic biochar and three aluminum (Al) and/or magnesium (Mg) oxides-anchored magnetic biochar (i.e., Al-mBC, Mg-mBC, and MgAl-mBC) were prepared via a facile pyrolysis method and then comprehensively evaluated as adsorbents for enhanced co-uptake of arsenate (As V ) and fluoride (F − ) from synthetic water. The mBC shows a high specific surface area of 205 m 2 g −1 , which dropped to 116, 80, and 114 m 2 g −1 upon the anchoring of Al, Mg, and Mg + Al, respectively. Our results suggest that the adsorption of either As V or F − is highly pH-dependent, and pH 4–6 is the optimal range for maximum adsorption. The adsorption isotherm data indicate that the MgAl-mBC adsorbent outranks all other mBCs for co-uptake of both As V and F − . The adsorption capacity maxima of MgAl-mBC are 34.45, and 21.59 mg g −1 for As V and F − , respectively (pH = 5, T = 10 °C), also highly outstripping other biochars reported in the literature. The magnetic feature of these mBCs enables us to fast reclaim and regenerate the exhausted adsorbents by an external magnet and dilute NaOH. The Al- and Mg-anchored mBCs are expected to be used as highly efficient adsorbents for environmental remediation of waters contaminated by both As V and F − .

Magnesium borohydride , Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , is ball-milled with Ti nano-particles. Such catalyzed Mg(BH 4 ) 2 releases more hydrogen than pristine Mg(BH 4 ) 2 does during isothermal dehydrogenation at 270, 280, and 290 °C. The catalyzed Mg(BH 4 ) 2 also exhibits better dehydrogenation kinetics than the pristine Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . Based on kinetics model fitting, the activation energy ( E a ) of the catalyzed Mg(BH 4 ) 2 is calculated to be lower than pristine Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . During partial dehydrogenation , the catalyzed Mg(BH 4 ) 2 releases 4.23 wt % (wt%) H 2 for the second dehydrogenation at 270 °C, comparing to 4.05, and 3.75 wt% H 2 at 280, and 290 °C. The reversibility of 4.23 wt% capacity is also one of the highest for Mg(BH 4 ) 2 dehydrogenation under mild conditions such as 270 °C as reported. 4 cycles of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 dehydrogenation are conducted at 270 °C. The capacities degrade during 4 cycles and tend to be stable at about 3.0 wt% for the last two cycles. By analyzing the hydrogen de/absorption products of the catalyzed sample, Mg(BH 4 ) 2 is found to be regenerated after rehydrogenation according to Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Ti nano-particles can react with Mg(BH 4 ) 2 during ball-milling and de/rehydrogenation. The products include TiH 1.924 , TiB, and TiB 2 , which can improve the dehydrogenation properties of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 from a multiple aspect.

Developing a strategy for efficiently synthesizing borohydrides with high capacity and favorable reversibility is significant for promoting the development of next-generation energy materials. This work proposes a novel Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@graphene (Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR) high-entropy system, integrating nanoconfinement and catalytic strategies to significantly enhance the dehydrogenation kinetics and cycling stability of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . TiNbNiCuO medium-entropy oxide (MEO) were synthesized in situ on a graphene carbon skeleton as catalyst (TiNbNiCuO@GR). Subsequently, Mg(BH 4 ) 2 was slowly infiltrated into the TiNbNiCuO@GR framework, which served as a carrier for nanoconfined Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , forming the Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR. It is demonstrated that the close contact between nanoconfined TiNbNiCuO MEO and Mg(BH 4 ) 2 creates abundant active sites, which facilitates electron transfer to improve dehydrogenation kinetics (dehydrogenation onset temperature at 63.5 °C) with a high capacity of 9.8 wt% H 2 . Notably, high-entropy effect and nanoconfinement boost the structure stability of TiNbNiCuO and prevent the agglomeration of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , respectively, thereby jointly achieving an enhanced reversibility of the dehydrogenation kinetics, enabling a capacity retention of 81.5% after 10 cycles. The synergistic nanoconfinement-catalytic effect within the Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR offers new insights into the efficient dehydrogenation pathway of Mg-based borohydride systems.

Repairing critical-sized bone defects, particularly those with irregular geometries, remains a significant clinical challenge. Stem cell-derived exosomes have been shown to promote bone defect repair. However, effective encapsulation and delivery of exosomes are still not well solved. To address this, we developed a composite bioink by encapsulating exosomes within a Pickering emulsion system (Water in oil. Water phase: MgO/exosomes; Oil phase: hydroxyapatite/silica/Poly (D, L-lactide-co-trimethylene carbonate)). This bioink was used to fabricate an exosome-laden MgO composite scaffold (PHS/MgO-EXO) via 3D printing. The PHS/MgO-EXO scaffold featured an excellent hierarchical interconnecting porous structure, capable of sustained release of Mg²⁺ ions and exosomes, which collectively promoted cell proliferation, adhesion, and osteogenic differentiation. Notably, the scaffold exhibited an excellent shape memory effect, enabling it to achieve conformal fitting and repair of irregular defects upon external stimulation. Moreover, the PHS/MgO-EXO scaffold could promote the repair and regeneration of bone defect in rat skull defect experiment. Transcriptome analyses revealed the mechanism: the PHS/MgO-EXO scaffold regulated the osteogenic differentiation of mBMSCs through the Hippo signaling pathways, and promoted tissue regeneration by modulating the immune response through the TNF-α and IL-17 pathways. Taken together, this PHS/MgO-EXO scaffold with shape memory properties can release exosomes and sustain the release of Mg²⁺ ions, which will provide a highly promising strategy for clinical repair of irregular bone defects.

Inspired by the simultaneous increase of permeability and selectivity by introducing nanobubbles by physical methods, this study firstly proposed a in situ chemical nanobubbles controlled guanidyl-incorporated double layer nanofiltration (NF) membrane for Mg/Li separation in salt-lake brine. As a bridge, 1,3-diaminoguanidine released nanobubbles rapidly and uniformly by pH control while polymerizing with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) during interfacial polymerization, followed by polyethyleneimine (PEI) secondary reaction, which effectively changed the solute transportation to obtain the shortest pathways in horizontal and normal directions. Compared with conventional PEI-TMC membrane, the water flux of guanidyl-incorporated PEI (G-PEI) membrane was obviously increased by 54.28% while separation factor of Li/Mg ( S Li/Mg ) enhanced by 63.27% in the initial 1 h, indicating chemical nanobubble interlayer effectively broke Trade-off effect by increasing the effective filtration area. In the long-term operation, G-PEI-NF membrane exhibited an excellent S Li/Mg of >60, low mass rate of Mg 2+ and Li + (MLR) of 0.31 and Li + purity of >75% with the stable flux of 19–20 L/(m 2 ·h). This study expected to provide a novel chemical nanobubble interlayer NF membrane with high filtration performance for Mg/Li separation in salt-lake brine.

High-entropy oxides (HEOs) have attracted extensive research interest due to their unique structural features, customizable elemental compositions, and tunable functional properties. Nevertheless, the complexity, low efficiency, and high cost of the existing HEO synthesis methods place limitations on them. In this study, Laser directed energy deposition (LDED) was employed to synthesize (Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn)O oxides. Additionally, the novelty of applying the LDED process to multicationic systems was emphasized. The comparison between specimens fabricated from mixed powder via LDED(MP) and those fabricated from pre-sintered powder via LDED(SP) encompasses macroscopic morphology, microstructure, and performance. The results showed that SP significantly enhanced the density from 86.44 % to 96.70 % compared to MP. The macro-segregation of Cu and Cu 2 O in the phase composition was observed in MP and SP. High-temperature pre-sintering promoted the solid solution formation of Co and Ni during LDED, leading to more severe micro-segregation of Co and Ni. When employed as anodes in lithium-ion batteries, MP and SP have outstanding long-term cycle stability, according to electrochemical performance studies. At a current density of 100 mAg −1 , these specimens maintained a capacity retention rate of 100 % even after 200 cycles. The initial discharge capacities of MP and SP were respectively 477.73 mAh g −1 and 373.86 mAh g −1 . This study is expected to present a novel approach for the rapid synthesis of (Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn)O oxide ceramics .

High-entropy Mg(Mg 0.25 Zn 0.25 Ga 0.5 Ti 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 4 ceramics with disordered spinel structure were prepared at 1420-1500 °C. When sintered at 1480 °C, Mg(Mg 0.25 Zn 0.25 Ga 0.5 Ti 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 4 ceramics exhibited extremely high Q×f of 105,800 ± 300 GHz, improved τ f of –45.3 ± 0.01 ppm/°C, and low ε r of 11.5 ± 0.1, with favorable H v and flexural strength of 11.43 ± 0.01 GPa and 128.1 ± 0.1 MPa, respectively, which were 23.3% and 31.7% higher than those of MgAl 2 O 4 . The measured ε r of Mg(Mg 0.25 Zn 0.25 Ga 0.5 Ti 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 4 ceramics was substantially higher than the calculated εᵣ (C-M) (9.9), due to the underestimated Ti 4+ polarizability and rattling effect. The improved τ f was caused by the decreased τ ε and increased Gibbs free energy. The 1.5 times increase in Q × f stemmed from the increased packing fraction and lattice energy, lowered σ AC , enhanced E a and covalency factor. A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna was designed with Mg(Mg 0.25 Zn 0.25 Ga 0.5 Ti 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 4 high-entropy ceramic, which can fulfill the communication demands of high-frequency and high-power applications.

Biodegradable beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) particle reinforced magnesium metal matrix composites (Mg-MMC) have attracted increasing interest for application as implant materials . This investigation was conducted to study the effect of cooling rate on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of a biodegradable β-TCP/Mg-Zn-Ca composite. The composite was fabricated under a series of cooling rates using a wedge-shaped casting mold. The microstructure of the composite was examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy, and the corrosion behavior was investigated using an electrochemical workstation and immersion tests in a simulated body fluid (SBF). Faster cooling rates were shown to refine the secondary phase and grain size, and produce a more homogenous microstructure. The refined microstructure resulted in a more uniform distribution of β-TCP particles, which is believed to be beneficial in the formation of a stable and compact corrosion product layer, leading to improved corrosion resistance for the composite.

Fe/Mg co-doped MoS 2 nanoflowers were prepared by a hydrothermal method. • Mg doping enlarged the MoS 2 interlayer spacing and enhanced piezo-response. • Mg enhanced H 2 O 2 adsorption on Fe sites and strengthened Fenton activity. • ·OH was confirmed as the dominant species for tetracycline degradation. • 5% Fe 3 Mg 1 -MoS 2 achieved 97.8% TC removal and 95.1% after six cycles. Pristine MoS 2 shows promise for piezo-Fenton degradation of organic pollutants, yet its weak piezoelectric response and sluggish surface reaction kinetics severely limit catalytic efficiency. Herein, Fe/Mg co-doped MoS 2 nanoflowers were prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method, and the Fe/Mg ratio was adjusted to construct a catalyst with both piezoelectric response and Fenton activity. Among the samples, 5% Fe 3 Mg 1 -MoS 2 exhibited the best performance. Under ultrasound alone, it degraded 71.9% of tetracycline within 60 min, with an apparent rate constant of 0.0213 min −1 . In the ultrasound/H 2 O 2 system, the degradation efficiency increased to 97.8%, and the rate constant reached 0.0620 min −1 , about 4.0 times that of p-MoS 2 . Structural and surface chemical analyses showed that Mg enlarged the MoS 2 interlayer spacing, induced local lattice distortion, and promoted fewer-layer structures, providing favorable structural conditions for the piezoelectric response under ultrasound. Fe species provided Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ redox sites and promoted H 2 O 2 activation. Radical scavenging and fluorescence tests indicated that ·OH was the dominant reactive species in the ultrasound/H 2 O 2 system, while ·O 2 - and h + also participated in degradation. DFT calculations further showed that Mg neighboring Fe sites enhanced H 2 O 2 adsorption on Fe sites and regulated the local charge distribution. This study demonstrates that Fe/Mg co-doping improves the piezo-Fenton catalytic performance of MoS 2 through structural regulation and electronic coupling, offering guidance for efficient MoS 2 -based catalysts.
