Biomass-based porous carbon composites have received widespread attention in microwave absorption field due to sustainable sources, unique micro-nano structure, low cost. Nevertheless, it is still a huge challenge to construct biomass-derived microwave absorbers with reasonable structure and multi-component magnetic/dielectric structures in order to satisfy the conditions of advanced electromagnetic wave absorption materials . Herein, CoNi-metal-organic framework (MOF) was grown in-situ on the wood, and CoNi@wood-derived porous carbon composites (WNC) were fabricated by in situ annealing at different temperatures under a nitrogen atmosphere. When the pyrolysis temperature was 700 °C and the loading amount was 30 wt%, the optimal minimum reflection loss of WNC composites could reach −25.96 dB at 17.98 GHz with a thickness of 1.8 mm. The outstanding microwave absorbing capacity is ascribed to the interfacial polarization , conduction loss , dipolar polarization, magnetic loss, and multiple reflections. This research paves a new preparation method for excellent microwave absorption materials.

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is utilized to precisely construct Pt single atoms and Pt nanoparticles on In-TCPP nanosheets. • The Pt single-atom sites are shown to markedly enhance photodynamic performance by facilitating charge separation and increasing singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) generation compared to Pt nanoparticles. • The resulting Pt SA /In-TCPP composite achieves broad-spectrum photodynamic inactivation against both S. aureus and E. coli via a 1 O 2 -dominated oxidative stress pathway. In the face of the increasingly serious threat of multidrug-resistant bacteria, it is urgent to develop new non-antibiotic antibacterial strategies. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has attracted much attention due to its advantages of low invasiveness, controllable time and space, and not easy to induce drug resistance, but its efficacy is highly dependent on the photogenerated charge separation efficiency of photosensitizers. In this study, Pt single atoms (Pt SAs) and platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) were precisely constructed on the surface of two-dimensional porphyrin metal organic framework (In-TCPP) nanosheets by atomic layer deposition technology. The size effect of platinum species and the enhancement mechanism of single atom construction on photodynamic performance were systematically explored. The evaluation of photodynamic performance shows that Pt single atom modified In-TCPP (Pt SA /In-TCPP) is superior to Pt nanoparticles modified In-TCPP and In-TCPP in the efficiency of generating total reactive oxygen species and singlet oxygen. In vitro antibacterial experiments showed that Pt SA /In-TCPP exhibited excellent broad-spectrum bactericidal performance under 660 nm laser irradiation. This study confirms that the controllable construction of single atom sites by ALD technology is an effective strategy to improve the photodynamic sterilization efficiency of MOF, and provides a new idea for the development of high-performance antibacterial nanomaterials. Multidrug-resistant bacteria pose a severe threat, necessitating antibiotic-free strategies. Herein, Pt single atoms are precisely deposited on 2D In-TCPP MOF nanosheets via atomic layer deposition. Notably, Pt SA /In-TCPP exhibits excellent broad-spectrum photodynamic sterilization against both S. aureus and E. coli under 660 nm laser irradiation, achieving complete bacterial inactivation. Advanced ion transportation channels aided by charge and suitable aperture play a crucial role in achieving precise separation of ions. Here, we report a MOF composite membrane with electropositive surface and sub-nanometer-sized ion transport channels for efficient Li + /Mg 2+ separation. The membranes were fabricated using MOF “porous monomers” and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) through interfacial polymerization, and subsequently modified with amino-functionalized polyethyleneimine (PEI). The abundant porosity of the MOFs composite membrane includes the inner and the intergranular pores of MOF provided a rapid transport channel for Li + ions, and a superior Li + permeation rate of 0.68 mol m −2 h −1 (a 10 times enhancement compared to the currently leading MOF membranes). Moreover, the improved positively charged surface (from −78 mV to + 4 mV at pH = 7) and reduced mean pore diameter (from 1.13 nm to 0.8 nm) of the membrane caused a remarkable selectivity of 13.2 for Li + /Mg 2+ . The design concept of the above MOFs based membrane provides a novel approach for developing high-quality MOF composite membranes for improving Li + /Mg 2+ separation performance.

Biomimetic chiral metal organic frameworks (BioMOFs) act as chiral selectors to recognize and sense chiral molecules mimicking biological functional systems, providing a novel perspective for chiral recognition in natural processes. Here, a biological chiral metal–organic framework has been successfully prepared, namely ZnBTCHx (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, Hx = hypoxanthine), which has periodic large and small grooves similar to the double helix structure of DNA. The adaptability of the local shape of ZnBTCHx can facilitate specific recognition of the chiral guest. The tryptophan (Trp) enantiomer enters the main groove of ZnBTCHx as a guest, and the ZnBTCHx groove selectively recognizes L- and D-Trp because the size and shape of the Trp enantiomer match the groove of ZnBTCHx and it fits snugly into the primary groove. The way in which L-/D-Trp binds to ZnBTCHx reveals key molecular interactions that confer host–guest binding specificity, including π–π interactions as well as hydrogen bonding between chiral host and guest molecules, and spatial adaptation.

Water contamination caused by heavy metals represents an urgent global issue. Cu 2+ , a potential trace heavy metal pollutant, can accumulate in the human body through the food chain, leading to excessive levels that give rise to diverse health complications. Hence, in this investigation, a novel and efficacious fluorescent probe named Eu-BTB was developed for the detection of Cu 2+ , employing 1,3,5-triphenyl(4-carboxyphenyl) (H 3 BTB) as the ligand and Eu 3+ as the metallic framework. The probe demonstrates exceptional fluorescence characteristics. The interaction between the probe ligand BTB and Eu 3+ triggers an antenna effect, heightening the emission efficiency of Eu 3+ while preserving its intrinsic emission. The introduction of Cu 2+ competes with BTB for binding, thus quelling the antenna effect and inducing a fluorescence alteration. Within the concentration range of 0.05–10 μM, the fluorescence intensity-to-Cu 2+ concentration ratio exhibits a robust linear correlation, with a remarkably low detection limit of 10 nM and a rapid response time of 3 min. The fluorescent probe has been effectively deployed for the detection of copper ions in water across diverse environmental conditions, with the obtained outcomes being validated via the conventional approach of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The Eu-BTB probe showcases the advantages of simplicity, swiftness, and broad applicability, thus affirming its potential for the prompt and accurate detection of Cu 2+ in diverse environmental water samples.

One of the most promising methods for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) is solid physical adsorption, which is an efficient and simple technique. The key to effective CO2 capture is the development of high-performance solid adsorbents with excellent CO2 adsorption capacity, CO2/N2 selectivity, and rapid adsorption/desorption kinetics. In this paper, a Mg-MOF-74/sodium alginate composite aerogel was prepared by loading Mg-MOF-74 on sodium alginate sheets followed by directional freeze-drying. The composite aerogel exhibited a hierarchical porous structure, in which sodium alginate provided an open mesoporous/macroporous structure that promoted diffusion and contact with the active center of CO2. The Mg-MOF-74 micropores/mesopores promoted the strong interaction between CO2 and the adsorbent in the micropore and rapid mass transfer of CO2 to the adsorbent through the mesopores. The experimental data showed that MSA-6 achieved CO2 adsorption of 2.461 mmol·g–1 at 298 K. Furthermore, the CO2/N2 adsorption selectivity of MSA-6 reached 35.108, indicating its strong CO2 selective adsorption potential.

Utilizing natural, abundant, and eco-friendly materials to facilitate the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles is of utmost importance, since these nanoparticles possess high activity but difficult to recovery. Herein, benefiting from the negatively charged vermiculite , dispersed nano-sized Fe-MOF particles were successfully in-situ grown on the surface of vermiculite nanosheets (VNs) via a simple solvothermal method. The construction of the composites improved the exposure of organic dye to active sites, resulting in a remarkable performance of Fe-MOF@VNs-4 towards photo-Fenton degradation of RhB , with a k value of 0.096 min −1 and an activity of 0.581 mmol g −1 h −1 , significantly higher than that of pure VNs and Fe-MOF, surpassing most reported MOF composite catalysts. The excellent adsorption ability of Fe-MOF@VNs, along with the presence of divalent iron in vermiculite, greatly enhanced catalytic performance. Mechanistic investigations revealed that VNs facilitate the separation of photoinduced carriers excited from Fe-MOF, indicating a synergy effect between Fe-MOF and VNs. Overall, this work provides a simple and effective strategy to design large-scale and commercially available catalysts for water treatment , and also offers a promising alternative for the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles.

Composites featuring negative permittivity have garnered significant attention for their potential in novel capacitance designs, coil-less electrical inductors, and electromagnetic shielding applications. In this study, we prepared polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix composites filled with ZrO 2 /C nanoparticles derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) via a hot-pressing method. With an increase in the ZrO 2 /C content to 30 wt.%, electrical percolation was observed, accompanied by a transition mechanism from hopping conduction to metal-like conduction. This enabled the realization of ZrO 2 /C/PVDF composites with tailorable negative permittivity properties, attributed to the plasmonic oscillation of free electrons in the composites beyond the percolation threshold (30 wt.%). Furthermore, the permittivity transition along to a shift in the electrical behavior of the percolative composites from capacitive to inductive. We explored the regulatory mechanism behind the negative permittivity in this random composite system, and our findings highlight the potential of these tunable negative permittivity media as promising candidates for diverse electromagnetic applications.

An electrochemical sensor applied for dopamine (DA) detection was constructed. An easy static way was used to synthesize bimetallic CoNi-MOF. Next, it was mixed with graphene oxide (GO) under ultrasound to get a uniform suspension. Subsequently, the solution was coated on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to form CoNi-MOF@ERGO/GCE by the electrochemical reduction method. The interaction between CoNi-MOF and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) enhances the electrocatalytic performance for DA detection. CoNi-MOF@ERGO/GCE has a wider linear range (0.1–400 μM) and a lower detection limit (0.086 μM) under optimum conditions. Furthermore, it has been applied to test DA in human serum samples. The results reveal that the DA sensor shows excellent performance, which will provide a novel idea for more sensitive and quicker DA detection.

The development of metal–organic framework (MOF) materials with multifunctionalities has boosted their prospects in the fields of spintronics and optoelectronics. However, incorporating magnetic and optoelectronic properties in MOF materials remains challenging. Herein, the in situ synthesis of Cu-MOF-74, a typical one-dimensional linear magnet, is systematically investigated, which shows ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions along the axial chain direction, and overall tilted antiferromagnetism at low temperatures. In particular, the introduction of SnS:Co quantum dots (QDs) enhances the antiferromagnetic coupling, which increases the phase transition temperature of the MOF from 7.8 K to 275 K at 1000 Oe. In addition, it is demonstrated that Cu-MOF-74 possesses both magnetic and optoelectronic properties. It is found that the responsivity and detectivity of the Cu-MOF-74 photodetector are both significantly improved by the SnS:Co QDs. This research provides promising methods for concurrent improvement of the magnetic and optoelectronic properties of MOF materials, advancing in-depth research on the MOF film as a new type of semiconductor for spintronic and optoelectronic devices.

Three-dimensional motion (especially in the Z-axis direction) of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)-based micromotors (MOFtors) is essential but still in its infancy. Herein, we propose a simple strategy for designing light-driven MOFtors that move in the Z-axis direction and efficiently kill Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The as-prepared polypyrrole nanoparticles (PPy NPs) with excellent photothermal properties are combined with ZIF-8 through a simple in situ encapsulation method, resulting in multi-wavelength photothermally-responsive MOFtors (PPy/ZIF-8). Under the irradiation of near-infrared (NIR)/ultraviolet (UV)/blue light, the MOFtors all exhibited negative phototaxis and high-speed motion behaviour with the highest speed of 2215 ± 338 μm s−1. In addition, it is proved that these MOFtors can slowly self-float up in an aqueous environment. The light irradiation will accelerate the upward movement of the MOFtors, and the time required for the MOFtors to move to the top is negatively correlated with the light intensity. Finally, efficient antibacterial performances (up to 98.89% against S. aureus) are achieved with these light-driven MOFtors owing to the boosted Zn2+ release by vigorous stirring motion and physical entrapment by the upward motion under light irradiation.

The electrocatalytic conversion of biomass into high-value-added chemicals is one of the effective methods of green chemistry. Conventional metal catalysts have disadvantages, such as low atomic utilization and small surface areas. Catalyst materials derived from metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have received much attention due to their unique physicochemical properties. Here, an MOF-derived non-precious metal CoxNiyS electrocatalyst was applied to the oxidation of biomass-derivative 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). The HMF oxidation reaction activities were modulated by regulating the content of Co and Ni bimetals, showing a volcano curve with an increasing proportion of Co. When the Co:Ni ratio was 2:1, the HMF conversion rate reached 84.5%, and the yield of the main product, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), was 54%. The XPS results showed that the presence of high-valent nickel species after electrolysis, which further proved the existence and reactivity of NiOOH, as well as the synergistic effect of Co and Ni promoted the conversion of HMF. Increasing the content of Ni could increase the activity of HMF electrochemical oxidation, and increasing the content of Co could reduce the increase in the anodic current. This study has important significance for designing better HMF electrochemical catalysts in the future.Keywords:5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation;electrocatalysis;biomass conversion;2,5-furandicarboxylic acid;MOF-derived electrocatalyst
