Core-shell composites of TiO 2 nanospheres equipped with MoS 2 nanosheets (TiO 2 @MoS 2 ) were synthesized in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide through a facile hydrothermal method , which was followed by annealing process in an atmosphere of 2% H 2 balanced by Ar. The TiO 2 @MoS 2 composites exhibited higher electrochemical performance than pure MoS 2 nanosheets, and showed a reversible capacity of 467 mAh g −1 at 100 mA g −1 after 80 cycles with highly stable capacity retention. This good performance may be attributed to the dispersed MoS 2 layer, which accelerates the surface electrochemical reactions and offers a stable structure, and the TiO 2 sphere, which serves as a stabilizer to retain the MoS 2 structure upon prolonged cycling. The core-shell composites can be a promising candidate for use in lithium-ion batteries.

Material composition and structural design are important factors influencing the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance of materials. To alleviate the impedance mismatch attributed to the high dielectric constant of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, we have successfully synthesized core-shell structured SiO 2 @MXene@MoS 2 nanospheres. This architecture, comprising SiO 2 as the core, MXene as the intermediate layer, and MoS 2 as the outer shell, is achieved through an electrostatic self-assembly method combined with a hydrothermal process. This complex core-shell structure not only provides a variety of loss mechanisms that effectively dissipate electromagnetic energy but also prevents self-aggregation of MXene and MoS 2 nanosheets. Notably, the synergistic combination of SiO 2 and MoS 2 with highly conductive MXene enables the suitable dielectric constant of the composites, ensuring optimal impedance matching. Therefore, the core-shell structured SiO 2 @MXene@MoS 2 nanospheres exhibit excellent EMW absorption performance, featuring a remarkable minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −52.11 dB (2.4 mm). It is noteworthy that these nanospheres achieve an ultra-wide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.72 GHz. This work provides a novel approach for designing and synthesizing high-performance EMW absorbers characterized by “wide bandwidth and strong reflection loss.”

Developing innovative packaging films is of great significance for extending the shelf-life of perishable fruit. In this study, we successfully synthesized antibacterial composites by incorporating Fe into reduced graphene oxides (rGO) and MoS2. The resulting rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3 composites demonstrated effective inhibition against E. coli and S. aureus. After investigating the antibacterial mechanism of rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3 composites, we utilized carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a film substrate to create CMC films infused with rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3 composites. The incorporation of rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3 composites decreased the light transmittance and hygroscopicity of CMC films, while greatly enhancing the mechanical properties of CMC films. To evaluate the practical applications of these rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3-based CMC films, we conducted a strawberry preservation experiment, which revealed that CMC films supplemented with 5 wt% rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3 exhibited exceptional performance in preventing weight loss and maintaining total titratable acidity levels in strawberries. These findings highlighted the promising potential of rGO-MoS2-Fe2O3-based CMC films for fruit preservation applications.

Using hierarchical hollow MoS 2 microspheres constructed by ultrathin nanosheets as a framework to provide large active surface area, polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers are controllably assembled on their surfaces by in-situ oxidative polymerization of different amounts of aniline monomers. The morphology and structure of these resulting composites are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy analyses. In order to assess the electrochemical performances of the composites, cyclic voltammograms (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and galvanostatic charging-discharging (GCD) tests are employed. The as-prepared MoS 2 /PANI-5 composite electrode delivers an enhanced specific capacitance about 633 F g −1 at the current density of 0.5 A g −1 , as well as shows a remarkable capacitance retention of 86.0% at 10 A g −1 after 1000 cycles. In addition, the energy density reaches to 31.7 W h kg −1 when the power density is 0.3 kW kg −1 . All the electrochemical tests indicate this composite has an application prospect as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

In this study, we present an effective modification strategy for cobalt ferrate (CoFe₂O₄), a cost-effective heterogeneous Fenton catalyst. Electron microscopic observation and X-ray diffraction results confirmed the successful hydrothermal synthesis of F-CoFe₂O₄/MoS₂. Notably, F-CoFe₂O₄/MoS₂ exhibited a high pollutant degradation efficiency (over 90 % within 30 min) across a broad pH range (4.0–9.0), along with excellent cyclic stability (up to 10 cycles) and environmental robustness. The effectiveness of the catalyst in treating real water samples and its performance in continuous-flow operations were also demonstrated. Fluorine (F) doping and integration with molybdenum sulfide (MoS₂) as a co-catalyst significantly facilitated metal ion release and promoted the formation of an acidic microenvironment on the catalyst surface, which accelerated Fe³ ⁺/Fe²⁺ cycling and enhanced CoFe₂O₄ performance in H₂O₂ activation and pollutant degradation. This work provides valuable insights for designing more efficient catalysts for heterogeneous Fenton oxidation systems in water treatment applications.

Solar-driven interfacial water evaporation shows great potential to address the global water crisis, but its efficient implementation in the presence of organic wastewater remains challenging. Here, we achieved integrated water evaporation and organic compound degradation by designing a multifunctional MoS 2 membrane. Under 1.0 sun irradiation, the membrane exhibits an evaporation rate of 2.07 kg m −2 h −1 and 82% degradation efficiency of organic pollutants, with negligible organic pollutant residues in the condensate. The high performance is attributed to the thermal energy generated by the evaporation process of MoS 2 membrane. This promotes an increase in the rate constant of interfacial electron transfer during the photocatalytic reaction, accelerating the generation of free radicals and facilitating the removal of organic pollutants. The study demonstrated that fresh water can be collected from high-salinity wastewater at a rate of 1.56 kg m −2 h −1 . The MoS 2 membrane provides a sustainable approach to addressing the water crisis.

The lignin-first biorefinery method appears to be an attractive approach to produce phenolic chemicals. Herein, corn stover was employed for the production of phenolic monomers using an unsupported non-noble MoS2 catalyst. The yield of phenolic monomers was enhanced from 6.65% to 18.47% with MoS2 at 250 °C and about 75% lignin was degraded with more than 90% glucan reserved in the solid residues. The Fourier-Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and heteronuclear single quantum coherence-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H–13C HSQC-NMR) characterization suggested that the cleavage of the β-O-4, γ-ester and benzyl ether linkages were enhanced, promoting the delignification and the depolymerization of lignin. The catalyst performance was relatively effective with 14.30% phenolic monomer yield after the fifth run. The effects of the reaction temperature, the initial hydrogen pressure, the dosage of catalyst, and the reaction time were investigated. The model reactions were also proposed for the potential mechanism study. This work provides some basic information for the improvement of the graminaceous plant lignin-first process with a non-noble metal catalyst.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are an emerging class of media of fundamental importance for chemical engineering, especially due to their interaction with solid surfaces. Here, we explore the growth phenomenon of surface-confined ILs and reveal a peculiar structural transition behavior from order to disorder above a threshold thickness. This behavior can be explained by the variation of interfacial forces with increasing distance from the solid surface. Direct structural observation of different ILs highlights the influence of the ionic structure on the growth process. Notably, the length of the alkyl chain in the cation is found to be a determining factor for the ordering trend. Also, the thermal stability of surface-confined ILs is investigated in depth by controlling annealing treatments. It is found that the ordered monolayer ILs exhibit high robustness against high temperatures. Our findings provide new perspectives on the properties of surface-confined ILs and open up potential avenues for manipulating the structures of nanometer-thick IL films for various applications.

A novel non-enzyme glucose sensor based on functionalized copper metal–organic framework composite material, AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF, was developed for rapid glucose analysis. Cu-MOF nanomaterial was prepared via a hydrothermal method, followed by the surface loading of core–shell structured AuNPs@MoS 2 to synthesize AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF composite material. Consequently, a novel gold nanoparticle @ molybdenum disulfide/copper metal–organic framework (AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF/GCE) non-enzyme glucose sensor was constructed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray powder Diffraction (XRD) was used to verify that the non-enzyme glucose sensor had been constructed effectively. Traditional electrochemical characterization methods were employed to study the electrocatalytic performance of the AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF/GCE sensor and its catalytic oxidation of glucose. The experimental results demonstrated a good linear correlation between the concentration of glucose and the peak current within the range of 0.05–14.85 mM, with a detection limit of 16.7 μM. The AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF/GCE sensor exhibited rapid electrochemical response to glucose (within 0.5 s), along with long-term stability and excellent selectivity. This is because Cu(II) in Cu-MOF can serve as active sites for the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose, while the core–shell structure of AuNPs@MoS 2 with excellent conductivity can lower the energy barrier in the reaction, further accelerating this catalytic reaction. The AuNPs@MoS 2 /Cu-MOF/GCE sensor is cost-effective, easy to operate, and suitable for accurate rapid quantification of glucose.

MoS 2 has shown potential in enhancing biological scaffolds with sonodynamic therapy. However, its efficacy in generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) is constrained by electron-hole recombination, which results in insufficient ROS levels to penetrate bacterial biofilms. To address this limitation, we adopted a dual-strategy approach by utilizing MoS 2 @Cu 2 O nanozymes with Type-II heterojunctions and enzyme-like activity, thereby enabling dual-mode antibacterial effects via the integration of sonodynamic therapy (SDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Specifically, we integrated MoS 2 @Cu 2 O nanozymes into poly-L-lactic acid scaffolds via selective laser sintering. Under ultrasound excitation, the electron-hole separation in MoS 2 @Cu 2 O heterojunctions generated 1 O 2 and ● OH outside the bacteria. Both simulation and experiments revealed the carriers’ separation mechanism and transfer path. Meanwhile, the Cu ions released by the scaffolds generated ● OH and consumed glutathione through the Cu + /Cu 2+ cycle, disrupting the redox balance inside the bacteria. A reactive oxygen species storm was formed through the dual attack on the interior and exterior of bacteria, inducing bacterial apoptosis. The obtained inhibition rates of S.aureus and E.coli were 97 % and 96 %, respectively. These results indicate that the MoS 2 @Cu 2 O/PLLA scaffold is promising for dual-mode SDT/CDT efficient antibacterial treatment.
