Silica-supported tungsten oxides (WO x /SiO 2 ) as industrial catalysts are widely applied for the metathesis of ethylene and butylene to propylene, yet often suffer from limited dispersion and stability due to ill-defined interactions between tungsten species and surface silanols microenvironment of silica support. In this work, the type and density of specific surface silanols in silica were successfully tailored by precisely controlling thermal pretreatment temperature. Multiple advanced characterizations and theoretical calculations revealed that vicinal-silanol-rich surface microenvironments were strongly associated with the formation of highly dispersed and stable isolated dioxo W (VI) -O-Si structure, while effectively suppressing the formation of less-active W-O-W aggregates. Under the comparable conditions, the optimized WO x /SiO 2 ‑ 550 catalyst with rich W (VI) -O-Si sites delivered an enviable propylene yield of over 67.9% in the olefin metathesis with a lower deactivation rate (0.069 h −1 ), far outperforming conventional catalysts. Moreover, the catalyst demonstrated satisfactory long-term stability over 200 h on stream and partial activity recovery upon oxidative regeneration. Mechanistic studies further suggested that the dioxo W (VI) -O-Si structure enhanced the adsorption and activation of olefins and favored the formation of surface species consistent with literature-proposed metal‑carbene intermediates, thereby improving both catalytic activity and propylene selectivity. These findings provide a fundamental understanding and a practical strategy for the rational design of highly-dispersed and stable supported tungsten catalysts for olefin metathesis.

Aluminum–silicon (Al–Si) alloys, due to their excellent heat storage density and thermal conductivity, are ideal candidates for high-temperature phase change materials (PCMs). However, metal-based PCMs are prone to leakage and corrosion during melting, which affects their stability. Traditional ceramic encapsulation suffers from poor thermal conductivity, a large mass ratio, and a lack of latent heat storage capacity, limiting its ability to meet the demands of efficient energy storage. This study proposes a novel design of a macro-capsule encapsulated with microencapsulated phase change materials (MEPCMs). By introducing MEPCMs into the outer shell of the macrocapsules, the system gains latent heat storage capability, increasing the mass content of the heat storage medium within the capsule and forming a dual heat storage unit of “core + shell”. Both the macrocapsules and the microcapsules are designed with thermal expansion cavities, effectively alleviating the volume expansion during the phase change process. The resulting macrocapsules exhibit a latent heat storage density of 420.9 J g−1 with an encapsulation efficiency of 86.8%. Within the operating temperature range of 500–700 °C, the maximum total thermal storage density reaches 630.7 J g−1. In addition, the thermal conductivity of the composite shell is 4.891 W m−1 K−1, representing a 217% increase compared with conventional ceramic encapsulation. After 100 thermal cycles, the latent heat retention remains as high as 99.2%, indicating that the developed macrocapsules have good potential for high-temperature thermal applications.

JZO zeolite, the first stable aluminosilicate extra-large-pore zeolite, bridges the long-standing gap between microporous and mesoporous zeolites, offering highly accessible pore systems that are beneficial for molecular diffusion, active-site accessibility, and the processing of bulky molecules. However, the control of zeolite framework composition is limited, precluding its use in processes that require different acidic and ion-exchange properties. Here, JZO zeolites with tunable framework Si/Al ratios of ca. 15, 30, and 50 were successfully synthesized through precise adjustment of synthesis parameters, thereby broadening the synthesis window of this intriguing zeolite. A series of JZO zeolites was synthesized via a combination of the seed-assisted and the “deficient fluoride” methods. The crystallization kinetics of JZO was prominently boosted compared to the seed-free and fluoride-free counterpart systems, thanks to the accelerated formation of primary building units of JZO. Comprehensive characterization methods were employed to unveil the concerted role of seeds and fluoride ions. Dimethoxymethane carbonylation to methyl methoxyacetate reaction, a promising alternative route for producing degradable plastic monomers, was evaluated over JZO zeolites, and high activity (ca. 58%) and selectivity (ca. 84%) were achieved in JZO zeolite with Si/Al = 30 obtained by seed-assisted approach over a time-on-stream (TOS) test of 50 h. The product distribution could be rationally controlled by adjusting zeolite compositions. This work expands the viability of JZO zeolite synthesis and lays the foundation for practical applications.

Hierarchical x MCMnO x was fabricated via facile in-situ silane confinement strategy. • Si-O-Mn are formed by the interaction of amorphous siloxane network and MOF precursor. • Mn 4+ + Ce 3+ ⇌Mn 3+ + Ce 4+ cycle forms a dynamic equilibrium to produce oxygen vacancies. • 3MCMnO x shown superior activity for low-temperature NH 3 -SCR with H 2 O/SO 2 resistance. Developing high-efficiency catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO x with NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR) is of great significance for achieving ultra-low NO x emissions. Herein, hierarchical x MCMnO x hollow nanorod hybrids were fabricated via a facile in-situ silane confinement strategy using Ce-doped Mn-BTC modified with MTMS (methyltrimethoxysilane) as the sacrificial template for NH 3 -SCR reaction. Systematic studies demonstrated that the tight chemical interaction between the amorphous siloxane network and the MOF precursor facilitated the highly dispersed distribution of the doped Ce species around the Mn active sites, forming abundant Si-O-Mn interface covalent bonds and strong metal-metal interactions (Mn 4 + + Ce 3+ ⇌ Mn 3+ + Ce 4+ ). Benefiting from the stronger NH₃ adsorption capacity, abundant reactive oxygen species, and surface-enriched hydrophobic methyl groups, the optimized 3MCMnO x promoted the Eley-Rideal (E-R) reaction pathway via strong Si-O-Mn interfacial coupling, achieving a 100% NO conversion rate within the temperature range of 150–300 °C at a GHSV of 36000 h −1 and robust H 2 O/SO 2 tolerance. Furthermore, the universality of this way was verified in analogous Co-based and Cu-based systems. This work opens a new avenue for the design of efficient and durable MOF-derived denitration catalysts for non-electric industries. To improve the wear resistance of Al 30Si coatings, nano-Y₂O₃-reinforced Al 30Si (Y₂O₃/Al-30Si) coatings were fabricated on 6063 aluminum alloy substrates by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). The effect of nano-Y 2 O 3 addition on the coating was studied in detail. The results show that nano-Y₂O₃ reduced the porosity of the Al 30Si coatings from 8.2 % to 3.1 %. Nano-Y₂O₃ can provide heterogeneous nucleation sites for primary silicon (β-Si) phases, enabling the Y₂O₃/Al-30Si coating to achieve a 57.4 % reduction in β-Si phase size. Correspondingly, the microhardness, elastic modulus and fracture toughness of the coating increased by 11.0 %, 11.2 % and 48.9 %, respectively. Under the present test conditions, the Y₂O₃/Al-30Si coating exhibited a lower coefficient of friction and a 27.2 % reduction in wear volume. Both the Y₂O₃/Al-30Si and Al 30Si coatings exhibited abrasive, oxidative, and fatigue wear mechanisms.

Pt/α-MoC catalysts, synthesized by supporting platinum on α-phase molybdenum carbide (α-MoC), have emerged as promising candidates for the low-temperature water–gas shift reaction (WGSR) due to their high catalytic activity. However, their performance is often limited by insufficient density of active Pt–Mo interfacial sites and inadequate stability under reaction conditions. In this study, a ternary Pt/α-MoC/MFI catalyst was constructed by incorporating MFI-type zeolites with varying Si/Al ratios as a support component. Comprehensive characterization revealed that modulating the Si/Al ratio of the zeolite support alters the carburization process, with silica-rich supports promoting the formation of a more optimal molybdenum carbide structure and effectively suppressing carbon deposition during reaction. In addition, the use of high-silica supports increased the number of active Pt–Mo interfacial sites and enhanced key steps such as water dissociation and –OH group conversion. Consequently, the Pt/α-MoC/S-1 catalyst─synthesized using purely siliceous S-1 zeolite as the support─exhibited the highest intrinsic activity of 7.4 molCO/molPt/s at 523 K, outperforming all other zeolite-supported Pt/α-MoC catalysts as well as the bulk Pt/α-MoC catalyst.

Fe-based amorphous alloys have garnered significant attention as high-efficiency Fenton-like catalysts for wastewater treatment due to their unique disordered atomic structure and abundant active sites. However, challenges remain in achieving both ultra-fast degradation kinetics and facile catalyst recovery. In this study, magnetically recoverable Fe-Si-B amorphous nanoparticle catalysts were successfully prepared by the chemical reduction method, and Rhodamine B degradation experiments were carried out under a Fenton-like system. The structural, morphological, compositional, thermal, and magnetic properties of the Fe-Si-B nanoparticles were characterized before and after the catalytic reaction. The results demonstrated that the nanoparticles retained their amorphous structure after the catalytic reaction and exhibited excellent soft magnetic properties with a saturation magnetization of 94.41 emu/g. Under conditions of 5 mM H 2 O 2 , 70 °C temperature, and pH = 3, the catalyst achieved over 99 % degradation efficiency for 20 mg/L Rhodamine B within 2 min at a dosage of only 10 mg/L. The degradation process followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic model with an activation energy as low as 37.62 kJ/mol. Radical quenching experiments indicated that ·OH played a dominant role in the degradation reaction, and the synergistic effect between the amorphous structure and high-density active sites significantly enhanced the generation efficiency of ·OH, thereby improving catalytic performance.

Reducing the Ca/Si molar ratio is critical for optimizing calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H) materials and enabling the recycling of silicon-rich waste. However, achieving high-performance crystalline C–S–H at Ca/Si < 0.83 remains challenging. This study proposes and systematically investigates a dual-silicon-source strategy, employing both active and inert silicon sources to regulate hydrothermal synthesis. At Ca/Si = 0.6, experimental results demonstrate that increasing the active silicon source content from 0 % to 60 % enhances tobermorite crystallinity by 275 %, decreases thermal conductivity by 26 %, and improves compressive strength by 7.30 MPa. The optimal performance was obtained at a reactive silicon-to-calcium molar ratio of 1.0. These findings confirm that this strategy significantly enhances C–S–H crystallinity and material performance. Mechanistically, the higher reactivity of the active silicon source drives competitive calcium consumption, facilitating the formation of long-chain crystalline C–S–H. This approach demonstrates a scalable pathway for synthesizing high-performance C–S–H under low Ca/Si conditions, offering promising applications in optimizing C–S–H-based materials and the recycling of silicon-rich waste.

High-capacity silicon/carbon composite anodes for lithium-ion batteries face rapid capacity degradation from extreme volume changes due to conventional organic-dominated solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) lacking mechanical/ionic stability. Constructing robust inorganic SEI (e.g., LiF-dominated interphases) requires synergistic control of electrolyte interactions at the inner Helmholtz plane (IHP) and stress-adaptive interfacial architectures. Herein, a hierarchical dual-coating strategy integrating polyaniline (PANi) and laser-induced graphene (LIG) on SiO x anodes addresses this challenge. PANi layer selectively enriches fluorinated ethylene carbonate (FEC) at the IHP via dipole-dipole interaction, enabling preferential FEC reduction at 1.3 V (vs. Li/Li + ) to form LiF-dominated SEI. Theoretical calculations confirm higher FEC adsorption density and stronger adsorption energy on the hierarchically dual-coated SiO x /LIG/PANi-2 (−0.33 eV) versus bare SiO x (−0.09 eV). Meanwhile, LIGʼs 3D porous conductive scaffold dissipates stress, sustaining structural integrity under repeated expansion. The optimized SiO x /LIG/PANi-2 anode achieves 1812.5 mAh g −1 initial capacity with 90.5 % initial Coulombic efficiency at 0.1 A g −1 and retains 87.7 % capacity after 1000 cycles at 2.0 A g −1 , demonstrating exceptional electrochemical stability. Post-cycling analyses further validate the homogeneity of LiF-rich SEI, robust mechanical resilience, and exceptional electrode integrity. This atomic-scale IHP regulation, harmonized with macro-scale stress engineering, offers scalable strategies for silicon anodes in high-energy-density batteries.

Various strategies have shown promise for addressing the volume expansion issue of silicon (Si)-based anode materials and enhancing their electrochemical performance, such as nanocrystallization and the use of carbon-encapsulated nano-Si particles. However, the agglomeration of nano-Si particles remains a challenge, limiting their full potential. In this study, Zn-MOF-74 was employed to improve the dispersion of nano-Si powder in a carbon source. Subsequently, polyacrylonitrile was used in an electrospinning process to prepare an effective coating, followed by heat treatment to prepare nitrogen-doped Si/C flexible anode composites. The influence of the coating degree on electrochemical performance was investigated, and the Si/C-MOF-74/CNFs-2 composite prepared with 30.3 wt% nano-Si particles exhibited specific discharge capacities of 1030.1 mAh·g −1 after 150 cycles at 0.1 A·g −1 , 610.8 mAh·g −1 after 300 cycles at 1.0 A·g −1 , and 409.1 mAh·g −1 after 300 cycles at 2.0 A·g −1 .

Transition metal-based single-atom catalysts (TM-SACs) are promising alternatives to Au- and Ag-based electrocatalysts for CO production through CO2 reduction reaction. However, developing TM-SACs with high activity and selectivity at low overpotentials is challenging. Herein, a novel Fe-based SAC with Si doping (Fe-N-C-Si) was prepared, which shows a record-high electrocatalytic performance toward the CO2-to-CO conversion with exceptional current density (>350.0 mA cm−2) and ~100% Faradaic efficiency (FE) at the overpotential of <400 mV, far superior to the reported Fe-based SACs. Further assembling Fe-N-C-Si as the cathode in a rechargeable Zn-CO2 battery delivers an outstanding performance with a maximal power density of 2.44 mW cm−2 at an output voltage of 0.30 V, as well as high cycling stability and FE (>90%) for CO production. Experimental combined with theoretical analysis unraveled that the nearby Si dopants in the form of Si-C/N bonds modulate the electronic structure of the atomic Fe sites in Fe-N-C-Si to markedly accelerate the key pathway involving *CO intermediate desorption, inhibiting the poisoning of the Fe sites under high CO coverage and thus boosting the CO2RR performance. This work provides an efficient strategy to tune the adsorption/desorption behaviors of intermediates on single-atom sites to improve their electrocatalytic performance.

The preparation of high-performance, multifunctional, eco-friendly non-isocyanate polyurethanes remains a challenging task. Herein, we designed a bio-based five-membered ring carbonate containing O-Si-O and constructed a poly(hydroxy)urea-epoxy hybrid polymer (SNIPU) through its hybrid cross-linking with epoxy resin. Hybrid cross-linking endows SNIPU with a lower curing energy requirement, facilitating the formation of the cross-linked network. SNIPU with a microphase-separated hybrid cross-linked network exhibits excellent mechanical properties, with tensile strength, strain, and notched impact strength reaching 112.78 MPa, 13.72 %, and 46.57 kJ/m 2 , respectively. The hybrid cross-linked network and abundant hydroxyl groups confer excellent cohesive strength and interfacial bonding drive to SNIPU, enabling it to exhibit outstanding bonding strength (lap-shear strength of 14.61 MPa) and bonding universality when used as an adhesive. The presence of O-Si-O confers excellent flame-retardant, dielectric, and hydrophobic properties to SNIPU, providing potential support of high-performance, multifunctional non-isocyanate polyurethanes for its application in adhesives. This study provides a new technical approach for the preparation.
