Abstract In this work, titanium-doped mesoporous Al 2 O 3 (γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 ) was prepared by an evaporation-induced self-assembly method and used as a carrier of Ba/γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 catalyst to catalyze the aldol condensation of methyl acetate with formaldehyde to methyl acrylate in a fixed-bed reactor. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, N 2 adsorption–desorption, pyridine absorption performed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (Py-IR), and NH 3 and CO 2 temperature-programmed desorption (NH 3 and CO 2 -TPD). Experimental results indicated that the doping of the titanium species into the frame work of mesoporous Al 2 O 3 (γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 ) had a significant influence on the catalytic activity via modifying the acid–base surface properties of the catalyst. Furthermore, the Ba/γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 catalyst demonstrated excellent catalytic performance, with a methyl acetate conversion rate of 50% and methyl acrylate selectivity up to 90.2%. Compared with the Ba/Al 2 O 3 catalyst, the Ba/γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 catalyst had better catalytic activity, stability and potential for practical application, which was likely due to an increased number of Lewis acid sites, especially the medium acid sites. Graphical Abstract Barium supported mesoporous γ-Ti–Al 2 O 3 catalyst was found to be an effective catalyst for vapor phase aldol condensation of methyl acetate with formaldehyde.

A highly efficient Ag catalyst supported on a novel Ti-decorated spherical fibrous silica (Ag/Ti-KCC-1) was synthesized via a facile approach. Characterization of catalysts, including FT-IR, N 2 physisorption, TEM, ICP-OES and DRUV–vis was carried out to investigate the physicochemical properties of the catalyst, XPS, H 2 -TPR, H 2 -TPD and DMO-TGA were conducted to further elucidate the effect of Ti dopant. It is shown that the Ti additive is able to, (1) inhibit the aggregation of Ag; (2) induce electron transfer from Ti to Ag, which effect the Ag dispersion and the adsorption ability of the reactants on the catalyst surface. Proper amount of Ti additive provided a balanced coverage of both hydrogen and dimethyl oxalate (DMO) on catalyst surface, which is essential in promoting the performance of the catalyst in the hydrogenation of DMO. By using the novel 10Ag/0.02Ti-KCC-1 catalyst, a high MG yield of 93.0% under extremely high WHSV of 1.75 h −1 is achieved.

Iron phthalocyanine (PcFe) was loaded on Ti-MCM-41 as visible light photocatalyst (R-PcFe/Ti-MCM-41). Dibenzothiophene (DBT) was photooxidized using R-PcFe/Ti-MCM-41 as a photocatalyst, air as an oxidant, and ionic liquid as the extraction agent during visible light irradiation at room temperature and ambient conditions. The results indicated that photocatalytic efficiency of the amino iron phthalocyanine (NH 2 -PcFe)/Ti-MCM-41 was superior to the other substituent groups. The DBT content in the model oil decreased from 1000 to 44 μg/mL with 95.6% removal rate under the optimal reaction conditions (model oil 10 mL, photocatalyst NH 2 -PcFe/Ti-MCM-41 0.02 g, loading amount of NH 2 -PcFe 0.3 g/g, air flow rate 100 mL/min, reaction time 2 h, room temperature). The kinetics of photocatalytic oxidation of DBT follows first-order kinetics with a rate constant of 1.319 h −1 and halftime of 0.525 h. The photocatalyst NH 2 -PcFe/Ti-MCM-41 was reused for five times, and the catalytic activity decreased slightly. The photocatalytic oxidation system demonstrated significant desulfurization effects on different sulfur compounds and real gasoline, and the sulfur content of the actual gasoline could be reduced from 1000 to 78 ppm.

Concrete corrosion in wastewater pipelines is caused by biogenic sulfuric acid produced locally by sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms. Concrete mixtures are commonly modified to prevent this form of corrosion by adding biocides to inhibit their biological activities. However, using biocides is not always desirable because of their limited lifespan and potential for leaching into the environment. Therefore, there is a need to develop more durable alternatives to prevent microbial-induced corrosion of concrete. In this study, three types of Cu-Ti amorphous alloys (Cu 35 Ti 65 , Cu 50 Ti 50, and Cu 65 Ti 35 ) were prepared by ball milling, and compared with commercially available TiO 2 nanoparticles to assess their effects on the resistance of the microbial-induced corrosion performance of mortar. Detailed investigations were conducted on the appearance, mechanical properties, and corrosion depth of mortars at various exposure durations in an accelerated biocorrosion environment. The results revealed that the mortars mixed with Cu 35 Ti 65 , Cu 50 Ti 50 , Cu 65 Ti 35 , and TiO 2 nanoparticles exhibited significantly better resistance to microbial-induced corrosion than the reference mortars. The resistance to microbial-induced corrosion of the mortar mixed with Cu 50 Ti 50 was the best. The superior antimicrobial corrosion performance of the mortar containing Cu-Ti amorphous alloy is influenced by both smaller particle sizes and higher sterilization performance. These findings can contribute to the development of novel applications of amorphous alloys in functional concrete.

Brightly saturated oxide films are successfully prepared on Ti sheets surface by anodic oxidation in ethaline deep eutectic solvent (DES) with the regulation of H 2 O content, to enhance the decorative and corrosion resistance. As H 2 O content increases from 0 wt .% to 100 wt .% in the DES, the colored surface of Ti sheets exhibits a highly reproducible and a variety of colors including yellow, brown, red, purple, and blue. The role of H 2 O during the coloring process is discussed to shed light on the deeper causes of the color changes of Ti sheets. There exists a critical H 2 O content, i.e. 20 wt. %, and below this value, it benefits to the increase of bath voltage and the formation of oxide films, reflecting in a regular change in the color of Ti sheets. Above 20 wt. %, some characteristics conferred by ethaline DES may be weakened, so that the color of Ti sheets basically remains unchanged in blue tone. Besides, systematically characterizations of colored Ti sheets demonstrate that non-stoichiometric titanium oxides are formed as a mixture of TiO 2 , Ti 2 O 3 and TiO. The variations in H 2 O content have significant impacts on the surface composition of colored Ti sheets, resulting in an increased O/Ti ratio of the surface oxides and altering the optical properties of the colored films. Furthermore, the EIS and dynamic potential polarization tests show a significant increase in impedance and a decrease in corrosion current density for the colored Ti sheets compared to the untreated, implying an enhancement in corrosion resistance.

The photocatalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol and the simultaneous evolution of hydrogen from water are efficient dual-optimal routes. It is important to develop composite catalysts that combine redox properties and facilitate electron–hole separation and transport. Herein, the bimetallic-doped Mo-ZIS@Ti photocatalyst was designed and synthesized, and the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol and hydrogen evolution by water splitting was realized at the same time. Under visible light irradiation, benzyl alcohol was completely converted with more than 99% selectivity for benzaldehyde, and the H2 production rate was 5.6 times higher than the initial ZIS. The exceptional catalytic performance was ascribed to utilizing Ti-MIL-125 as a precursor, wherein slowly releasing-doped Ti formed robust Ti–S bonds that quickly transfer electrons and reduce sites. Meanwhile, doping Mo effectively captures photogenerated holes and acts as active sites for oxidation reactions. Both experimental characterization and work function calculations demonstrate that the bimetallic synergism effectively modulates the electronic structure of ZIS, promotes the directional separation of electrons and holes, and significantly improves the photoactivity and stability of ZIS. This work contributes a route to obtain benzaldehyde and green hydrogen at the same time and also gives new insights for the construction and mechanism study of bimetallic-doping catalysts.

In present work, the ternary Ni-Ti-CeO 2 composite coatings were electrodeposited on Al matrix composite (CNT/7075) in traditional Watts' solution containing various concentrations of CeO 2 nanoparticles and constant concentration of Ti microparticles . The effects of CeO 2 nanoparticles on microstructure and corrosion resistance of the obtained composite coatings were comprehensively investigated. The incorporation of moderate CeO 2 nanoparticles (less than 10 g L − 1 in Watts' solution) gave rise to grain refinement, random-orientation growth of nickel deposit and smooth surface of the composite coating. Corrosion tests of the Ni-Ti-CeO 2 composite coatings in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride (NaCl) at 25 °C illustrated the optimised microstructure favoured the enhancement of corrosion resistance. Further analyses of the corrosion behavior demonstrated that the embedded CeO 2 nanoparticles facilitated the formation of a compact passive film on the surface of the composite coatings during corrosion and promoted the formation of TiO 2 on the surface of Ti microparticles. The formation of TiO 2 not only protected the Ti metal particles but also helped to improve the corrosion resistance of the composite coatings, because the TiO 2 coated Ti microparticles decreased the attack probability of nickel deposits by corrosive medium. Typically, the Ni-Ti-CeO 2 composite coating electrodeposited in Watts' solution containing 10 g L − 1 CeO 2 nanoparticles possessed the best corrosion resistance and excessive CeO 2 nanoparticles deteriorated the corrosion resistance.

The electrochemical abatement of aspirin, a representative anti-inflammatory drug, is carried out through anodic oxidation by employing PbO 2 , boron-doped diamond (BDD) and porous Ti/BDD as anodes. The effect of nature characteristic and structure of the electrode material on the electrochemical oxidation is systematic investigated. The redox behavior of aspirin on different electrodes is studied by linear sweep voltammetry. Completely mineralization of aspirin could be achieved on BDD electrodes. The results show that the electrochemical incineration of aspirin on three electrodes follows a pseudo first-order kinetics behavior with apparent rate constant of 0.051, 0.185 and 0.367 h −1 for PbO 2 , flat BDD and porous BDD electrode. Electrochemical degradation mechanism on BDD electrodes involves the direct and indirect electrochemical oxidation while there is only indirect oxidation for aspirin on PbO 2 electrode. Porous Ti/BDD presents the best excellent electrochemical oxidation ability for aspirin compared with flat BDD and PbO 2 electrode. The discrepancy of electrochemical oxidation could be explained in terms of in situ generation and utilization rate of hydroxyl radicals on the surface of electrode materials.

Rutile TiO 2 nanorod arrays (TNRs) were achieved by hydrothermal process on TiCl 4 pretreated Ti foil. Subsequently, TNRs were hydrothermally etched in HCl solution to form hollow TiO 2 nanorod arrays (H-TNRs). The TiCl 4 pretreatment plays key roles in enhancement of Ti foil corrosion resistance ability and crystal nucleation introduction for TNRs growth. TNRs with desired morphology can be obtained by controlling TiCl 4 concentration and the amount of tetrabutyl titanate (TTB) accordingly. TNRs with the length of ~1.5 μm and diameter of ~200 nm, obtained on 0.15 M TiCl 4 pretreated Ti foil with 0.6 mL TTB, exhibits relatively higher photocurrent . The increased pore volume of the H-TNRs has contributed to the increased surface area which is benefit for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) application. And the 180 °C-H-TNRs photoanode obtained from the 0.15-TiCl 4 -TNRs sample demonstrated 128.9% enhancement of photoelectric efficiency of DSSC compared to that of the original TNR photoanode.

Titanium aluminum carbide (Ti 3 AlC 2 and Ti 2 AlC) powders were synthesized from TiH 2 powders instead of Ti powders as Ti source by a tube furnace under argon atmosphere without preliminary dehydrogenation. 95 wt% pure Ti 3 AlC 2 powders were synthesized from TiH 2 /1.1Al/2TiC at 1 450 °C for 120 min. High-purity Ti 2 AlC powders were also prepared from 3TiH 2 /1.5Al/C and 2TiH 2 /1.5Al/TiC powders at 1 400 °C for 120 min. The as-synthesized samples were porous and easy to be ground into powders. Sn or Si additives in starting materials increased the purity of synthesized Ti 3 AlC 2 obviously and expanded the temperature range for the synthesis of Ti 3 AlC 2 . With Si or Sn as additives, high pure Ti 3 AlC 2 was synthesized at 1 200 °C for 60 min from TiH 2 / x Si/Al/2TiC and TiH 2 / x Sn/Al/2TiC ( x = 0.1, 0.2), respectively.

In order to improve the metal utilization of the noble metal Pd and the catalytic activity of the reaction, a novel and efficient Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode was prepared by introducing a Ti 4 O 7 intermediate layer for electrocatalytic hydrodechlorination (EHDC) of chlorinated pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs). The presence of oxygen vacancies (Ov) on the Ti 4 O 7 surface was confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The results showed that the introduction of Ti 4 O 7 increased the electrochemical active surface area electrode (ECSA) of the Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode, accelerated the electron transfer rate on the catalyst surface, and promoted the generation of electron-rich Pd, which in turn improved the dechlorination efficiency. The Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode had a removal efficiency of 99.6% for florfenicol (FLO) within 180 min. Meanwhile, the removal efficiency of the Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode was still above 95% in seven cycles, which significantly improved the catalytic activity and stability compared with that of the Pd/Ti electrode. In addition, the reaction pathway for the electrocatalytic hydrodechlorination process of FLO at Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode was proposed. The ecotoxicity of the pollutants was also evaluated by the Toxicity Estimation Software Tool (T.E.S.T) model. In this study, an efficient electrocatalyst for EHDC was explored, and the Pd/Ti 4 O 7 /Ti electrode provided strong support for pollutant removal.

Antibiotic wastewater poses a significant threat to the global environment and human health. In this work, Ni-Ti bimetallic Metal-Organic Frameworks (NT-MOF) were synthesized as effective photocatalysts to remove tetracycline (TC) from water under visible light irradiation. The photocatalysts underwent characterization using techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), N 2 adsorption-desorption, and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Photocatalytic tests were conducted under visible light conditions (λ>420 nm). The enhanced performance is mainly due to the presence of Ni in NT-MOF changing the shape and structure of the samples, reducing electron-hole recombination, thus promoting the charge separation process. These findings have significant implications for the development of efficient and sustainable methods for the removal of TC from wastewater.
