A catalytic hairpin self-assembly (CHA) amplification method was developed for CAP detection based on cross-shaped DNA and UiO-66. MOF was used to quench the fluorescent signal of FAM labeled DNA. Cross-shaped DNA with four fluorophore group (FAM) was utilized to enhance the fluorescent intensity. CAP could open hairpin structure of H-apt and induce CHA reaction. The product of CHA hybridized with cross-shaped DNA, resulting its leaving from the surface of UiO-66 and recovery of fluorescent signal. The limit of detection (LOD) was low to 0.87 pM. This method had been successfully applied for the detection of CAP in actual samples. Importantly, the high sensitivity was attributed to the great amplification efficiency of CHA, strong fluorescent intensity of cross-shaped DNA structure and great fluorescent quenched efficiency of UiO-66.

Introducing advanced conductive nanoparticles to combine with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as electrode is emergingly regarded as a practical and efficient approach to improve the capacitive performance of supercapacitors. Herein, a new MOF (ZrNi-UiO-66, Nickel-zirconium 1,4-dicarboxybenzene) is designed to combine with carbon quantum dots (CQDs) to form a composite electrode with high specific capacitance, in which the charge regulation is performed to facilitate the electronic conduction and transfer. Such constructed electrode delivers an enhanced electronic conductivity and an improved specific capacitance of 2468.75 F g −1 @ 1 A g −1 , which is four times of the contrast sample. Meanwhile, the assembled hybrid supercapacitor exhibits an increased energy density and power density, as well as a sustainable stability after 10,000 cycles with a retention rate of 91.6 %. Basing on the study of advanced characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) simulation, the mechanism of significantly improved specific capacitance can be elaborated as the promote electronic conduction caused from narrowed band gap from 3.9 eV or 0.41 eV–0.23 eV, and the increased charge accumulation at the Ni sites in designed MOFs. This work provides new insights for the design and construction of potential energy storage materials based on MOFs and/or advanced carbon-based materials.

Salinity gradient energy (SGE) harvesting from water has long been sought as a clean energy source. Commercial ion exchange membranes often face high energy barriers, inadequate ion transport ability, and chemical instability, thus displaying low power outputs. In this study, a series of continuous, flexible, zirconium-based metal–organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) were synthesized on reduced graphene oxide membranes via electrochemical synthesis for highly efficient SGE harvesting are developed. The well-defined nanoscale channels and functional groups act as ionic filters and conductors, enhancing the ion selectivity for highly efficient SGE harvesting. Notably, the SO 3 H-UiO-66 membrane achieved a power density of 57.5 W/m −2 in neutral solution under a 1000-fold KCl concentration gradient, with a high K + transference number of 0.92, outperforming most reported membranes. Furthermore, the SO 3 H-UiO-66 membrane demonstrates a high output power density of 16.2 W/m −2 when tested with real seawater (Huang Hai) and domestic water, and is also effective in harvesting energy from wastewater, achieving a power density of 17.3 W/m −2 . This study opens new avenues for fabricating continuous Zr-MOF membranes as a platform for utilizing seawater and wastewater sources in SGE harvesting.

Photocatalysis is a promising technology for removing low concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) from the atmosphere. However, the unsatisfactory photocatalytic NO removal efficiency and the high selectivity for NO 2 in catalysts limit the development of this technology. In this work, we used an in-situ synthesis method to incorporate Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 into UiO-66 for efficient and robust photocatalytic NO removal. The Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 /UiO-66 catalyst exhibits a 77.6 % NO removal efficiency and low NO 2 selectivity under visible light irradiation at a WHSV of 1,650,000 mL h −1 g −1 , exceeding the efficiencies of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 (36.4 %) and UiO-66 (2.3 %), as well as those of most reported MOF-based photocatalysts. The synergy of weak Lewis acid sites from Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 in Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 /UiO-66 and the strong Lewis acid sites from UiO-66 promotes the enrichment of NO on the catalyst surface and act as electron traps to induce carrier separation, thereby promoting the generation of O 2 − to achieve high efficiency. This work provides a new idea for the development of catalysts in NO elimination.

Antibiotic residue detection plays a key role in ensuring human health. However, rapid, reliable, and highly sensitive detection methods are still insufficient. To tackle this challenge, in this study, the Au@Ag/Ce-UIO-66, a nanocomposite material consisting of bimetallic gold core and silver shell (Au@Ag) introduced on the surface of Ce-UIO-66, was successfully synthesized. By meticulously regulating the exact concentration and volume of silver nitrate, we successfully generated an optimal matrix. This significantly enhanced the detection capability of the probe molecule CV to an impressive concentration of 10 −9 M, with a remarkably low relative standard deviation of 7.54 %. The matrix exhibits excellent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance and stability, reaching adsorption equilibrium within 30 min. Moreover, employing this substrate enables the detection of sulfadiazine at concentrations as minimal as 2.5 μg/L, significantly surpassing the standards set by the European Union. Notably, the Raman spectral signal of sulfadiazine maintains stability across various pH conditions at a concentration of 10 −5 M. Finally, the adsorption mechanism and enhancement mechanism between Au@Ag/Ce-UIO-66 and sulfadiazine were explored.

We demonstrate a method for the detection of Ziram in water by using the adsorption properties of UiO-66(Ce) metal-organic framework (MOF) combined with the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate of precious metal nanoparticles. The traditional UiO-66 is based on Zr as the metal center. After replacing the Zr metal center with Ce, the synthesized UiO-66(Ce) has short aging, high efficiency, low energy consumption, and energy saving. Furthermore, by adding P123, UiO-66 is modified to have a structure similar to the durian shell spine, which can provide more composite sites for metal nanoparticles. Thus, more SERS hot spots are generated. The combination of AuNPs with UiO-66(Ce) has been confirmed by XRD, XPS, and other characterization and analysis techniques. The Raman probe molecule R6G was used as an evaluation tool to evaluate the performance of this SERS substrate. The results showed that the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the substrate was as low as 8.96 % at a concentration of 10 –6 M of the R6G solution, and the substrate demonstrated high stability. Finally, the substrate was applied for the detection of ziram in lake water, achieving a detection concentration of 10 –8 M, an enhancement factor of 2.57 × 10 5 , and a detection limit as low as 5.21 × 10 –9 M, demonstrating excellent sensitivity and enabling efficient trace pollutant detection in complex water environments.

The development of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based composite systems for visible-light-driven organic photocatalysis under mild conditions, offering an effective approach for sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis. Herein, we synthesized Z-scheme photocatalysts CdS/Ce-UiO-66 by combining the representative photocatalyst CdS and Ce-UiO-66, demonstrating excellent photocatalytic performance for imines synthesis in air. The CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites demonstrated significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for the oxidative coupling of amines under visible-light irradiation in air, outperforming their individual components. Remarkably, the composite achieved conversion of benzylamine with exclusive formation of imines as the sole product and efficiency up to 84 % at least four cycles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic system exhibited excellent substrate adaptability, demonstrating broad applicability across various amine substrates. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites can be primarily attributed to the uniform dispersion of CdS nanoparticles and the unique heterostructure system that effectively modulates the band gap, extends the light absorption range, and promotes charge carrier separation. This study not only presents an efficient photocatalytic strategy for the direct synthesis of imines through oxidative coupling of amines but also demonstrates the significant potential of photoactive CdS/MOF hybrid systems in sustainable chemical synthesis.

Resource utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) is an effective strategy to mitigate global warming and achieve carbon neutrality and peak carbon goals. It is well known that different preparation methods affect the catalytic performance of catalysts. Herein, we designed an efficient Ru–ZrO2/C catalyst for photothermal catalytic CO2 reduction by pretreating UiO-66 in a N2 atmosphere and then loading Ru species. Compared to the reference sample of Ru/ZrO2 obtained by calcining UiO-66 in an air atmosphere, Ru–ZrO2/C exhibits much superior catalytic activity under full-spectrum light irradiation with a methane yield of 504.1 mmol g−1 h−1 and selectivity of 98.9%, respectively. In addition, the catalytic performance of Ru–ZrO2/C for photothermal CO2 methanation remains stable without obvious reduction in a 24 hour continuous test. The physicochemical characterization studies of Ru–ZrO2/C determine that the remarkable heat resistance, effective light-heat conversion ability, abundant oxygen vacancies, low-valence Ru, and good CO2 adsorption properties are responsible for the enhanced performance of photothermal CO2 hydrogenation. This work expands the application of MOFs as precursors and provides an effective guide for designing highly efficient photothermal catalysts for solar fuel production.

The adsorption kinetics and molecular dynamics were modeled based on the structure-assembled technique of MOFs , conjugate bonding and targeted adsorption of characteristic pollutants. The mechanism of interaction between UiO-66 and rubber-modified asphalt (RMA) was simulated. The adsorption characteristics between UiO-66 and five class I carcinogens, high concentration VOCs components were simulated by Sorption module. The conjugate bonding and targeting adsorption mechanism between UiO-66 on VOCs was elucidated by combining the GC-MS analysis data. The results were showed that the interaction between UiO-66 and rubberized asphalt was influenced by the number of molecules, contact area, spatial site resistance, and active groups. The content of UiO-66 should be controlled below 3.31 %. The small size of vinyl chloride molecules made it easier to enter the pore structure of UiO-66 with a maximum inhibition rate of 91.75 %. The 1,2-dichloropropane has a large molecular size, spatial site resistance, non-conjugation effect, and the smallest adsorption amount of 72.2 %. The total concentration of VOCs was decreased from 726.38 mg/cm 3 to 166.12 mg/cm 3 , a reduction of 77.13 %. The adsorption of UiO-66 on VOCs molecules was affected by molecular size, carbon chain length, conjugation effect, polarity and other factors. VOCs and UiO-66 form a p-d, d-d π conjugation effect based on the conjugated structure, targeting adsorption within the benzene ring of the organic framework.

The excellent stability of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and the diversity of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) make MOF/COF hybrid materials promising candidates for chromatographic stationary phases. In this paper, a TpBD/UiO-66-NH2 hybrid material was synthesized through a Schiff-base reaction between TpBD COFs and UiO-66-NH2 MOFs; characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; and bonded to a capillary to prepare a TpBD/UiO-66-NH2-bonded open tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) column. Results suggested that the hybrid material had the crystal morphology of a single COF and MOF, a micro–mesoporous structure, and good thermal stability. The inner surface of the OT-CEC column was tightly and uniformly distributed with the stationary phase (∼1.5 μm). The baseline separation of 13 amino acids and three families (4 acidic antibiotics, 4 preservatives and 6 sulfonamides) of emerging pollutant mixtures was achieved due to the synergistic effect of TpBD and UiO-66-NH2 in the stationary phase. The OT-CEC column showed good reproducibility and stability with relative standard deviations of migration time and resolutions in the range of 1.17–3.93% and 1.79–4.31%, respectively.

High-quality polyamide (PA) nanofiltration (NF) membrane with excellent selectivity and permeability is of great research significant because of their high practical application value, especially for the precise separation of divalent and monovalent ions, such as Mg 2+ and Li + . Herein, UiO-66-NH 2 nanoparticles (NPs) decorated ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) nanofiber substrate (M-NFM) was utilized to construct high-quality Janus NF membrane through interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction using polyethyleneimine (PEI) and piperazine (PIP) as aqueous phase monomers and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) as organic phase monomers. The incorporation of UiO-66-NH 2 NPs significantly influenced the hydrophilicity, surface morphology, and pore structure of the substrate, thereby enhancing the properties of the resulting NF. Optimally prepared membranes demonstrated improved separation performance, permeability, stability, and antifouling characteristics compared to the unmodified substrate. Notably, at a Mg 2+ /Li + ratio of 30, the resultant NF membrane achieved a separation factor (S Mg 2+ /Li + ) of 28.4 and a salt permeation flux of 156.8 L·m -2 ·h -1 ·MPa -1 . Additionally, the membrane exhibited over 98% rejection rates for FeCl 3 , CuSO 4 , CaCl 2 , MgSO 4 , MgCl 2 and Na 2 SO 4 with fluxes exceeding 150 L·m -2 ·h -1 ·MPa -1 , highlighting its effectiveness in rejecting multivalent ions. This research presents a simpler and more reliable approach to the fabrication of high-quality Janus PA NF membrane, offering promising potential for industrial-scale applications.

A membrane-aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) combines membrane technology with biofilm processes and has unique advantages in the treatment of organic wastewater and volatile wastewater. The common membranes for MABR systems usually have relatively uneven pore structures and low bubble point pressure, resulting in unsatisfactory O 2 utilization and wastewater treatment efficiency. In this work, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and UiO-66 (a Zr-based metal organic framework) were coated on the surface of a commercial polypropylene (PP) hollow fiber membrane to prepare oxygen-rich MABR membranes and modules, which showed an attractive O 2 utilization rate and wastewater treatment efficiency. The bubble points of the PDMS and PDMS-UiO-66 membranes were significantly higher than those of the PP membranes, and the PDMS-UiO-66 membranes had better oxygen enrichment capacity and biological affinity. The optimal PDMS-UiO-66 membrane modules had an O 2 permeance of 31.65 GPU (1 GPU = 3.35 × 10 −10 mol m −2 s −1 Pa −1 ), with O 2 /N 2 selectivity of 2.21. The membrane hanging effect and processing capacity for domestic sewage were greatly improved. This study may provide insights and guidelines to fabricate porous mixed matrix membranes and modules in the industry for MABR. The developed products are expected to be applied in the actual separation process. PDMS and PDMS-UiO-66 were coated on the PP support to prepare O 2 -rich MABR membranes and modules. With UiO-66 loading, the module has a higher O 2 /N 2 separation performance, a rougher and more hydrophilic membrane surface. The PDMS-UiO-66 membrane module exhibits a good biofilm hanging effect and high NH 4 + -N removal performance.
