Constructed MOF-in-LDHs to regulate morphology and anchor active sites. • Ternary metal redox cycles coupled with ETP boosted PMS activation. • Ion resistance and cycling stability enable continuous-flow application. Although the development of catalysts with high activity and stability is still a major problem, advanced oxidation processes based on peroxymonosulfate (PMS-AOPs) show promise for the degradation of antibiotics. In this work, FeCu-LDH with an initial fish-scale embroidered spherical morphology was reconstructed during ZIF-67 growth, forming a unique 3D structure with ZIF-67 nanoparticles confined on lamellar substrates. This structure not only provides ideal anchoring sites for ZIF-67 but also alleviates its self-agglomeration and metal ion leaching via spatial confinement. Under optimized conditions, 2 mg of the catalyst achieved 95.12% norfloxacin (NOR) removal within 30 min; positively charged LDHs stabilized negatively charged PMS, while ZIF-67 Co sites triggered the continual production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). DFT calculations showed ZIF-67/FeCu-LDH efficiently activates PMS by enhancing adsorption and interfacial electron transfer. A continuous-flow reactor with this catalyst maintained >90% NOR removal for 8 h, showing good practical potential. Quenching experiments and EPR confirmed SO 4 ·- , ·OH, ·O 2 − and 1 O 2 generation; electrochemical tests verified the participation of type III electron transfer pathway (ETP(III)), with radical-non-radical coupling promoting NOR degradation. Mechanistically, FeCu-LDH lamellar confinement enhances Fe/Cu/Co redox cycles and accelerates electron transfer, supplying sufficient electrons for PMS activation. This study proposes a potential method for designing MOF-in-LDHs composites, providing a reference for the treatment of water contaminated by antibiotics.

Addressing electromagnetic wave pollution requires lightweight absorbers with strong absorption, broad bandwidth, and small thickness. This work introduces a structural regulation strategy combining seed-assisted in situ growth with rapid Joule heating (RJH) to fabricate C/Co composite nanofibers from ZIF-67. The “cobalt seeds” enable high-density, uniform ZIF-67 loading, preventing nanoparticle agglomeration; the 5 s RJH process induces nonequilibrium carbonization, preserving abundant carbon defects and inhibiting cobalt particle coarsening. The optimized Co-CNF-2 exhibits high specific surface area, high defect density, and numerous C/Co heterointerfaces, leading to enhanced interface polarization, dipole polarization, and magnetic loss while maintaining moderate conduction loss. Remarkably, Co-CNF-2 achieves a minimum reflection loss of –60.11 dB at 2.47 mm and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth of 6.80 GHz at 2.46 mm, covering the entire Ku band. Mechanistic studies reveal that metallic Co is the primary contributor to magnetic loss, whereas surface-trace CoO and carbon defects facilitate polarization relaxation and optimize impedance matching. This work provides new insights for the rapid construction of multi-mechanism metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derived one-dimensional absorbers.

This work reveals a novel SERS enhancement mechanism of “satellite” structure. • Stable and uniform L-Au@ZIF-67@S-Au NPs were synthesized by self-assembly method. • L-Au@ZIF-67@S-Au NPs substrates was prepared with an enhancement factor of 3.4 × 10 6 . • Determination of fenpropathrin in citrus peel, and its LOD reached 0.995 μg/L. A new hybrid substrate of core-satellite plasma MOF, namely L-au @ ZIF-67 @ S au NPs, was developed in this study. The substrate aims to improve SERS performance by combining the molecular trapping layer of ZIF-67 with double electromagnetic hot spots distributed on the inner surface and the outer surface. The interface self-assembly strategy was adopted to combine MOF with plasma nanostructures, thus combining excellent molecular adsorption ability with strong local field enhancement effect. The results showed that the substrate had a low detection limit of 1.43 × 10 −10 M for rhodamine 6G, achieved rapid adsorption equilibrium within 10 min, and showed high signal reproducibility (relative standard deviation, RSD = 1.66%, n = 20). The substrate was applied to the detection of fenpropathrin residues in citrus peels, showing good sensitivity, and the detection limit was 0.995 μg·L −1 , with an enhancement factor of 3.4 × 10 6 and excellent reproducibility. This work builds a multifunctional and environment-friendly SERS platform, which effectively combines advanced nano-material design with practical applications of food safety monitoring Download: Download high-res image (146KB) Download: Download full-size image

A well-structured magnetic CuFeS 2 /ZIF-67 hybrid catalyst was synthesized by embedding CuFeS 2 nanoparticles into a ZIF-67 framework for efficient peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and ultrafast dye degradation. The redox-rich Cu─Fe─Co interface promotes rapid electron transfer and continuous PMS activation, resulting in outstanding catalytic performance. Under optimized conditions (catalyst 75 mg L − 1 , PMS 125 mg L − 1 , dye 80 mg L − 1 , pH 6.4, and 20°C), the optimized 0.4-CuFeS 2 /ZIF-67 composite achieved 98.06% removal of Reactive Brilliant Blue KN-R (anthraquinone-based anionic reactive dye) within 0.5 min, following pseudo-first-order kinetics with a high rate constant (k obs = 7.49 min − 1 ). Electron paramagnetic resonance and quenching experiments confirmed the coexistence of radical species (SO 4 • − , •OH, and O 2 • − ) and a non-radical pathway involving 1 O 2 , with singlet oxygen identified as the dominant oxidant. The enhanced activity originates from the synergistic Cu + /Cu 2 + , Fe 2 + /Fe 3 + , and Co 2 + /Co 3 + redox cycling, while sulfur species (S 2 − /S 2 2 − ) act as electron mediators that promote charge transfer and stabilize active sites during PMS activation. The catalyst retained over 83% activity after repeated cycles with negligible metal leaching (Cu 0.010 mg L − 1 , Fe 0.033 mg L − 1 , Co 0.09 mg L − 1 ). Significant total organic carbon removal (52.81%) demonstrates effective mineralization, highlighting its potential for sustainable wastewater treatment applications. Graphical A magnetic CuFeS 2 /ZIF-67 hybrid catalyst enables ultrafast peroxymonosulfate activation through synergistic Cu─Fe─Co interfacial redox cycling and rapid electron transfer. Dominant singlet oxygen and radical pathways achieve rapid dye degradation, substantial mineralization, excellent recyclability, and low metal leaching, demonstrating strong potential for sustainable wastewater remediation under mild operating conditions.

Electrospun nanofiber membranes are ubiquitous in the ecological environment due to the high specific surface area and porosity, excellent functionality and recycling. Surface enriched ZIF-67 that incorporated into electrospun rice straw-derived cellulose acetate (RSCA) nanofibers mats were synthesized using a facile in-situ growth strategy. The RSCA was achieved by the acetylation reaction of rice straw-derived cellulose, which was extracted from the recycled waste agricultural rice straw by green solvent. The structures and properties of ZIF-67/RSCA were investigated to reveal the mechanism of in-situ growth method. ZIF-67/RSCA mat shows efficient CO 2 capture and water treatment performance. The achieved ZIF-67/RSCA-0.1 M nanofiber membrane possesses optimal capacities for CO 2 (1.33 mmol/g at 273 K and 101 kPa), which reached to 70% of ZIF-67 powders. MO adsorption capacity of ZIF-67/RSCA-0.1 M membrane was matched with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and their equilibrium adsorption capacity towards MO was found to be 11.20 mg/g at room temperature, which is about 15 times as that of pure RSCA nanofibers membrane (0.77 mg/g). Moreover, the ZIF-67/RSCA could selectively adsorb the MO, while it cannot remove the MB pollutant. The detailed analysis of BET and Zeta potential indicated that larger specific surface area and positive potential of ZIF-67/RSCA were favorable for efficient adsorption and selectivity . We believe the approach to fabricate ZIF-67/RSCA nanofibers membrane using the rice straw for removing CO 2 and MO is a win-win strategy for the application of agricultural waste to environmental pollution .

In this work, dodecyltrimethoxysilane (DTMS)-modified zeolitic imidazolate frameworks nanoparticles (ZIF-67@DTMS NPs) were prepared and added into epoxy (EP) matrix to fabricate composite coating . The anti-corrosion performance and adhesive force of ZIF-67@DTMS/EP coating were measured with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and pull-off tests. The results show that compared to pure EP coating, the impedance modulus of ZIF-67@DTMS/EP composite coating is significantly enhanced. The prepared ZIF-67@DTMS NPs as nanofillers can significantly improve the corrosion resistance and the adhesion of EP coating. In addition, the diffusion coefficient of aggressive species in the coatings were determined by molecular dynamics simulations , and the influence mechanism of ZIF-67@DTMS NPs on the anti-corrosion performance of epoxy coating was explored. The ZIF-67@DTMS NPs could combine with EP tightly through forming hydrogen bond . Meanwhile, these NPs could fill in the holes in the EP coating and then block the transmission channel of aggressive species, which enhances the barrier of coatings to the access of aggressive species, then improves the anticorrosion performance of coatings.

Non-precious metal nitrogen-carbon composites (M-N-C) derived from ZIFs are an excellent non-precious metal catalyst for use in energy conversion and storage devices such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries. Herein ZIF-67 precursor with good dispersion, perfect crystal structure and size of below 270 nm was synthesized by consuming low amount of 2-methylimidazole ligand using a mixture of ethanol (EA) and methanol (MT) as the reaction medium. Compared with the traditional method of reducing the size of ZIF-67 by increasing the amount of ligands in methanol, this method avoids the waste of raw materials and saves the cost. The Co-N-C-MT/EA catalysts derived from ZIF-67 exhibits good ORR activity in alkaline media (0.1 M KOH) with a half-wave potential of 0.81 V vs RHE. After 5000 cycles, the initial potential and half-wave potential basically remain no change, showing excellent long-term stability. And remarkable methanol resistance is also displayed comparing with commercial Pt/C. The present experimental result shows that the improved synthesis method of ZIF-67 precursors has far-reaching implications for the field of catalyst research.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) can be used as ideal artificial nanozymes for an open structure to transfer substances and products. The nanozymic mechanism of MOFs needs further investigation for wide application. In this manuscript, no peroxidase-like activity was found for ZIF-67 (a kind of MOF), however, it enhanced the peroxidase-like activity of the Fe0.8Ni0.2S2/ZIF-67 composite, in which Fe0.8Ni0.2S2 was the active composition. The catalytic constant (Kcat) is higher at 1.98 (for TMB) and 2.08 (for H2O2) times and the catalytic efficiency (Kcat/Km) is higher at 3.13 (for TMB) and 2.67 (for H2O2) times, than those of Fe0.8Ni0.2S2. The Km value decreased about 85 times (for H2O2) for Fe0.8Ni0.2S2/ZIF-67 than that of horseradish peroxidase (natural enzyme). The mechanism was proposed. The limit of detection of H2O2 for Fe0.8Ni0.2S2/ZIF-67 is 0.039 μM, which is lower by about 18.2 times than that of Fe0.8Ni0.2S2. Simultaneously, Fe0.8Ni0.2S2/ZIF-67 was used to rapidly detect ascorbic acid for only 1.0 min in food monitoring. This study may be important to design a new kind of nanozyme.

A core-heteroshell structural magnetic composite of ZIF-67/Vanadium-titanium magnetite (VTM) was successfully synthesized through a feasible solvothermal method and efficiently used in activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the treatment of levofloxacin (LVF) in an aqueous solution. The catalytic activity of the ZIF-67/VTM composite in LVF degradation was thoroughly evaluated, demonstrating the LVF removal rate could reach up to 93.3% within 60 min at ZIF-67/VTM composite dosage of 100 mg/L, PMS concertation of 75 mg/L, and the natural pH of 6.4. It is quite interesting that the carbon organic skeleton (in the ZIF-67 shell) have accelerated the internal electron transformation rate of the ZIF-67/VTM composite, thus efficiently promoting the O–O band (in PMS) breakage and the redox cycle of cobalt, further favoring the free radicals generation. The quenching experiments and EPR analysis results demonstrated that ·SO 4 − would play a crucial role in the LVF degradation process. Surprisingly, we have found that the introduction of Cl − (at some certain dosage) would not always decrease the LVF degradation ratio, for a new reactive oxygen species (singlet oxygen) was emerged in this system. What's more, the ZIF-67 (as the wrapping structure) could stabilize the VTM (the inner structure) in changing reaction conditions, prompting a good adaptability at a wider pH range (3–10) for inhibiting the leaching of various metal ions into the aqueous solution. This novel ZIF-67/VTM composite could provide new ideas and routes for the removal of emerging pollutants from an aqueous solution.

In this work, a facile method is reported for the synthesis of ZIF-67-derived cobalt and nitrogen-doped carbon (Co-N-C) materials with enlarged average pore sizes as electrocatalysts towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The pore diameters of the Co-N-C can be greatly enlarged using NaCl as an additive during the pyrolyzing process. Thermo-gravimetry (TG) results suggest that NaCl could facilitate the structural decomposition of ZIF-67, resulting in the adjusted physiochemical properties of the obtained Co-N-C materials. The CoNC-1NaCl-700 and CoNC-1NaCl-800 materials derived from ZIF-67 in the presence of NaCl at relatively high pyrolyzing temperatures (i.e., 700 °C, 800 °C) exhibit superior catalytic activity compared with the CoNC materials derived from pure ZIF-67, which could be due to their unique structures of larger average pore sizes, higher surface areas, higher contents of pyridinic-N and graphitic-N. The onset potential of the CoNC-1NaCl-800 towards ORR is 0.94 V (vs. RHE) and the half-wave potential is 0.84 V (vs. RHE), which are comparable with that of commercial Pt/C.

With industrialization, wastewater treatment technologies have drawn huge attention and among different approaches the adsorption process is very attractive because of its simple design and low operational cost. In this paper, CoCu-layered double hydroxide (LDH) was prepared having huge surface area with a large pore diameter, which is significant for obtaining excellent adsorption properties for methyl orange (MO). After detailed adsorption kinetics analysis, the results followed pseudo second order (PSO) kinetic model having good correlation coefficient (R 2 ) values. However, adsorption isotherms data matched well with the Freundlich isotherm kinetics model. Furthermore, CoCu-LDH exhibits significant adsorption capacity even in the fifth cycle of MO adsorption, indicating that the CoCu-LDH is competitive and cost-effective adsorbent for anionic dyes from industrial wastewater.

Perfluorinated compounds have serious impacts on ecosystems and threats to human health, and exploring technologies to remove them is urgently needed. Using Calotropis gigantea fiber (CGF) as the biological template, the precursor of ZIF-67 was firstly in-situ anchored in the inner/outer walls of the fiber and then pyrolyzed to yield the composite catalyst labelled as Co/C@C. In combination with peroxymonosulfate (PMS), the advanced oxidation system, i.e. Co/C@C/PMS, was constructed for the catalytic removal of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from water. The experimental results showed that under the optimized conditions of PMS dosage of 1.0 g/L, catalyst dosage of 0.5 g/L and pH 3.0, PFOA achieved the degradation efficiency of 72.2% within 4 h at ambient temperature. Combined with free radical quenching, electron paramagnetic resonance, electrochemistry and nitroblue tetrazolium dichloride-based UV-Vis analysis, the reactive oxygen species and diverse pathways were identified, including SO 4 • − , O 2 • − , O 2 1 and electron transfer process in the Co/C@C/PMS system. The coexisting anions ( HCO 3 − , Cl − , H 2 PO 4 − and NO 3 − ) and real wastewaters showed no significant effects on PFOA degradation, demonstrating that the Co/C@C/PMS system has good resistance to external ions and different media. After four cycles, the degradation efficiency of PFOA was still 62.8%, indicating that Co/C@C has high stability and good reusability. The degradation products of PFOA were mainly short-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids (C4-C7) and hydrogen-substituted perfluorinated compounds. Based on quantitative structure-activity relationship analysis, their ecotoxicity was finally evaluated via ECOSAR method. In short, natural CGF derived Co/C@C has great potential for the reduction of emerging PFOA to achieve a sustainable water environment for humans.
