Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 biphasic fibers were of considerable interest due to their superior mechanical properties and thermal stability. Despite this, precise control over fiber structure and further enhancement of thermal stability remained significant challenges. This study investigated the regulation of phase transformation behavior and thermal stability in Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 fibers through Sc 2 O 3 doping. The findings demonstrated that Sc 2 O 3 doping facilitated the formation of α-Al 2 O 3 and t-ZrO 2 phases within the fibers. In samples containing 1 wt.% Sc 2 O 3 , the average crystal size of α-Al 2 O 3 was 160 nm, while t-ZrO 2 crystals displayed a bimodal nanoscale distribution. The Weibull strength of these fibers reached 1.99 GPa. Following exposure to 1200 °C for 100 h, most α-Al 2 O 3 crystal sizes remained within the 200-300 nm range. The mechanism by which Sc 2 O 3 doping affects structural evolution and enhances the thermal stability of Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 fibers was also examined.

Ceramic fiber materials are highly efficient, chemically stable, and high-temperature-resistant materials but the solid structure of traditional ceramic fibers limits their potential for lightweight design and for improving thermal insulation performance. Here, inspired by the stimulus-response mechanism of the mimosa, we propose a biomimetic strategy based on temperature and humidity field induction to develop yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) fibers with a hollow structure, thereby fabricating lamellar ceramic fiber felts that exhibit both favorable mechanical properties and excellent thermal insulation performance. Benefiting from the enhanced thermal insulation of the hollow structure, the thermal conductivity of these ceramic fiber felts (0.022 W/(m·K) at 25 °C and 0.105 W/(m·K) at 1000 °C) is superior to that of most insulation materials. In addition, the developed ceramic felts feature low density (52 mg/cm 3 ), good tensile strength (360.01 ± 11.38 kPa), and excellent thermal stability, with the tensile strength retaining 90% of the original value even after calcination at 1100 °C. As a pivotal proof-of-concept, the successful preparation of such biomimetic materials establishes a novel research paradigm for the development of hollow ceramic fiber materials.

Abstract Although Pd/ZrO2 represents a highly promising catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation, it still faces challenges such as low methanol selectivity and intense competing side reactions. In this study, we precisely constructed an In2O3 interfacial layer between Pd and ZrO2 by atomic layer deposition (denoted as Pd/xIn2O3/ZrO2, where x represents the number of atomic layer deposition cycles) and systematically investigated the role of this interlayer in modulating the catalyst microstructure, reaction pathways, and methanol selectivity. Catalytic performance evaluation results reveal that under reaction conditions of 320 °C and 3 MPa, the Pd/10In2O3/ZrO2 catalyst exhibits the best performance for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, whereby the methanol selectivity was significantly enhanced from 6.6% to 76.6%, and the methanol space-time yield increased by approximately 6 times (2.40 vs. 13.37 gMeOH·gPd–1·h–1) when compared to pristine Pd/ZrO2 catalyst. Multifaceted characterization and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy demonstrate that the introduction of In2O3 substantially strengthens CO2 adsorption and activation, promotes further hydrogenation of the key CO* intermediate, and establishes a dual-path synergistic mechanism involving both formate and CO-hydrogenation routes, thereby effectively suppressing the formation of the byproduct CO. Collectively, this work demonstrates that catalyst interface engineering via atomic layer deposition provides an effective strategy for tuning the reaction network and optimizing methanol selectivity in catalytic CO2 hydrogenation systems.

This study explores the preparation of a Cs-doped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst using a low eutectic system and its application in ammonia synthesis. Additionally, it examines the effect of Cs doping on enhancing the catalyst's resistance to hydrogen poisoning. Compared to the undoped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst and the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 –B catalyst prepared through the grinding method for promoter incorporation, the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst synthesized using the low eutectic system demonstrated significantly enhanced activity. At 400 °C and 0.1 MPa, the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst achieved an ammonia synthesis activity of 1769 μmol g cat −1 h −1 , which is approximately 35 times higher than that of the undoped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst. The structure of the catalyst was analyzed using various material characterization techniques, including XRD, XPS, and SEM. The results showed that the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst, prepared under identical conditions, exhibited no significant structural differences compared to other catalysts. However, further TPR and TPD analyses revealed that Cs interacts with Ru to some extent, affecting its reduction behavior and enhancing the catalytic reaction rate for ammonia synthesis. Additionally, detailed XPS analysis of all catalysts was conducted, leading to a proposed relationship between the catalytic reaction rate and the oxidation states of the metal components. The study revealed that the presence of Cs significantly inhibits hydrogen poisoning of the catalyst. Furthermore, it demonstrated that the addition of promoters enhances H 2 dissociation by supplying electrons to the active metal Ru, while Cs plays a crucial role in effectively suppressing hydrogen poisoning.

Wearable gas sensors, possessing the advantages of high sensitivity, excellent flexibility, high permeability, low weight, and workability at ambient conditions, hold great promise for real-time health monitoring and early warnings of poisonous gases. However, obtaining high-performance wearable gas sensors utilizing the current well-developed inorganic semiconductor oxide sensing materials is still very limited due to their fragile and rigid nature. Herein, a newly designed wearable gas sensor based on an all-inorganic ASZ (Al2O3-stabilized ZrO2)/ZnO/SnO2 nanofibers is introduced for the first time. The flexible ASZ ceramic sponge substrate (with a Young’s modulus of 4.15 MPa) and ultrathin ZnO/SnO2 sensing layer endow the wearable gas sensor with promising properties such as super flexibility (with a bending radius of 5 mm), high gas permeability, and low weight. Furthermore, driven by UV light irradiation, this all-inorganic wearable sensor also demonstrates a stable NO2 sensing response under different bending states at room temperature, which enables the gas sensor to be more compatible with wearable sensing applications. This work offers a general method to achieve a high-performance wearable gas sensor based on inorganic materials and provides new insights into their potential in wearable gas-sensing applications.

In this paper, the electrojet mask in-situ forming technology was used to prepare (CF x ) n /CaF 2 -ZrO 2 /TiO 2 composite films with different ZrO 2 /TiO 2 texture distributions, to improve the adhesion properties and tribological performance of (CF x ) n /CaF 2 lubricant films. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and reciprocating wear characteristics between the composite films and 304 stainless steel counterparts were studied. The results showed that the textured hard film significantly improved the adhesion strength of the soft film and the tribological properties of the composite film. The composite film sample B had the lowest friction coefficient (∼0.100) and a lower film wear rate of ∼2.85 × 10 −7 mm 3 N −1 mm −1 , and also showed good self-lubricating properties in the high-temperature wear process. Sample C had a lower friction coefficient of ∼0.107 and the lowest film wear rate of ∼2.75 × 10 −7 mm 3 N −1 mm −1 . Compared with untextured composite film sample DC, sample B showed a 21.3 % reduction in friction coefficient, while sample C showed a 54.8 % decrease in film wear rate. This was because the surface texturing treatment of hard films enhanced the storage and flow of lubricant particles, and maintained a stable self-lubricating film during reciprocating wear. Moreover, (CF x ) n and CaF 2 have a synergistic effect in a wide temperature range of 25 °C–600 °C.

Silicon oxide (SiOx) has been widely studied due to its ultrahigh theoretical specific capacity for lithium storage. However, its inherent low electronic conductivity and large volume change before and after lithium insertion have limited its commercialization. To address this issue, we report the synthesis of SiOx@ZrO2@C ternary composite nanospheres by convenient and scalable wet chemistry and sintering processes. In the unique structure of 3D porous SiOx@ZrO2@C nanospheres, zirconium oxide (ZrO2) supplies high structural stability, while the amorphous carbon (C) layer helps to form a stable solid–electrolyte interface, suppress volume expansion, and greatly improve the conductivity. Electrochemical measurements demonstrate that the SiOx@ZrO2@C nanospheres exhibit a capacity retention of 72.2% after 500 cycles at 500 mA g–1. At a high current density of 800 mA g–1, the SiOx@ZrO2@C nanospheres can still deliver a capacity of 529.1 mAh g–1. This work provides a promising mass-scale synthesis method for producing SiOx composites and introduces a high-performance anode material for lithium-ion batteries.

In recent years, low-salinity waterflooding and nanofluid flooding have been regarded as the new technologies for enhanced oil recovery and research (EOR). Research on the mechanisms behind the improvement in the recovery rate has garnered significant attention. However, little attention has been given to the mechanism of low-salinity water within the high-salinity range and the synergistic mechanism between low-salinity water and nanoparticles. In the salinity range of 0–22,0,000 mg/L, the interfacial properties of different concentrations of Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and SO42– were investigated. The following conclusions were drawn: interfacial tension (IFT) gradually decreased at elevated temperatures, reaching a minimum value of 14.9 mN/m for 2000 mg/L low-salinity water at 60 °C. The contact angle decreased significantly at increased temperatures, reaching a minimum value of 64.8° for the contact angle of 2000 mg/L low-salinity water at 60 °C, indicating water-wet wettability. Electrostatic repulsion was the highest for 5000 mg/L low-salinity water, with a zeta potential value of −12.56 mV. Furthermore, Na+ significantly affected IFT and zeta potential values at low concentrations, while Ca2+ exhibited a more significant effect on wettability at low concentrations. Additionally, when utilizing 2000 mg/L low-salinity water as the dispersion medium for ZrO2 nanoparticles, increasing the particle concentration negatively impacted the stability of the nanofluid. As the temperature increased, IFT decreased, reaching a minimum value of 14.27 mN/m at a concentration of 0.01 wt % at 60 °C. Similarly, as the temperature increased, the contact angle decreased, with nanofluids at a concentration of 0.014 wt %, exhibiting the lowest contact angle of 51° at 60 °C, indicating increased water-wet wettability of the rock surface. This study offered a fundamental understanding of interfacial phenomena involving low-salinity water and nanoparticles, indicating their potential for EOR technology.

Pure lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6) ceramics were prepared using powders of different grain sizes. The ceramics could reach a relative density of 98.2% at high temperatures and pressures, but had a low flexural strength (136.9 MPa). LaB6ceramics were synthesized using ZrO2-Al2O3-TiO2(ZAT) as sintering additives. The ceramics demonstrate high density and excellent mechanical properties. The hot pressure sintering (HPS) method was utilized in the synthesis of the ceramics. Investigations were conducted on the effects of ZAT content, as well as the effects of the sintering temperature and pressure on the sintering behavior, microstructure, and mechanical and electrical properties of LaB6ceramics. LaB6ceramics fabricated with a ZAT addition of 6 wt.%, at a sintering temperature of 1700 °C, and under a pressure of 50 MPa, exhibited superior sintering and electrical properties, including a relative density of 97%, a conductivity of 7.2 MS/m, a flexural strength of 281.5 MPa, and a Vickers hardness of 21.2 GPa. The LaB6ceramics synthesized in this research exhibit promising potential as electron-emitting cathodes for field emission applications.

Hierarchically three-dimensional (3D) materials present a pivotal challenge and opportunity in achieving effective microwave absorption with synergistic effects. In this work, α -Fe 2 O 3 @ZrO 2 with core-shell structure were fabricated in-situ on aramid nanofibers by a solvothermal method . Following calcination , 3D ZrO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 /C nanocomposites with Janus structure have been successfully synthesized. By controlling the lattice match and mismatch in both processes, a core-shell structure of α -Fe 2 O 3 @ZrO 2 and Janus structure of ZrO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 have been well-define performed. The composite material ZrO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 /C-700 has a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −67.4 dB at a thickness of 2.0 mm. The effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) at a thickness of 2.4 mm is 6.0 GHz (11.0–17.0 GHz). This study provides a novel strategy for fabricating high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption materials with dual synergistic effects in nanosized scale.

Fischer–Tropsch synthesis is a typical reaction for converting synthesis gas (i.e., CO and H2 mixture) to clean fuels, by coupling different processes, which can produce products such as engine fuels and other high value-added chemicals. However, searching for a suitable catalyst is still challenging due to its chemical structure-sensitive properties, which greatly affect the interaction with active components, thereby altering the reaction activity or product selectivity. In this work, the nanosized ZrO2 with different oxygen vacancy concentrations was synthesized by using UiO-66 as a precursor and applied for supporting cobalt nanoparticles. The results showed that treatment of nanosized ZrO2 carrier with diluted nitric acid at an appropriate temperature could effectively modulate its surface oxygen vacancy and subsequently alter the FTS activity. The optimized Co/C-ZrO2-80 catalyst with a high concentration of oxygen vacancy displayed a CO conversion of 44.2% and a cobalt time yield (CoTY) of 20.9 × 10–5 molCO gCo–1 s–1 at 220 °C, which shows a 2.9-fold increase in CoTY compared with the conventional ZrO2-supported catalyst. Multiple characterizations and comparative experiments indicated that oxygen vacancies on the surface of ZrO2 enhanced the electron transfer and the interaction between Zr and Co species. Zr-OV-Co interface sites promoted the adsorption and dissociation of CO and H2 molecules. This work provides a new perspective for studying the effect of oxygen vacancies on the structure and reactivity of cobalt-based FTS catalysts.

With the development of thin-film optoelectronic components and the increasing requirements for improved integration and performance of ultra-large-scale integrated circuits for devices, finding new high-k gate dielectrics to replace ZrO 2 has become a challenge. Elemental doping is an effective method to further improve the dielectric properties of ZrO 2 . In this work, a novel gate dielectric material was prepared by doping ZrO 2 with the rare-earth element La. The results show that the new gate media material has better performance; these include suppressing the crystallization of ZrO 2 as well as obtaining a large band gap (∼5.74 eV), a large conduction band shift ΔE C (∼2.96 eV), and a low leakage current (∼6.3 × 10 −6 A/cm 2 ). In addition, La doping can significantly suppress the generation of thin-film oxygen vacancies and low-k layers. Furthermore, the leakage current transfer mechanism of the device is systematically investigated. This study provides new insights for selecting a suitable La doping content for the modification of future gate dielectric materials.
