In this study, poly(sodium p-styrenesulfonate)/poly(methyl methacrylate) particles were facilely prepared by in situ cross-linked polymerization followed with a liquid–liquid phase inversion technique. The particles exhibited selective adsorption for cationic dyes due to the negatively charged sulfonic groups. The intra-particle diffusion process was the rate-limiting step for the adsorption of methylene blue. More than 90% of cationic dye was removed by the adsorption column of the particles after three circulations. The particles could be facilely fabricated and industrially used for wastewater treatment.

The authors describe a method for amperometric determination of chloramine-T that is based on the indirect detection of chloramine-T by detecting p -quinone imine ( p -QI) that is generated by oxidation of p -aminophenylboronic acid by chloramine-T. p -QI can be detected with excellent selectivity and at low potential by using a glassy carbon electrode. Hence, the method displays attractive features such as high sensitivity, wide detection range and excellent selectivity. The electrode has two linear responses in the 50 nM to 100 μM concentration range and a 6 nM detection limit. Compared to other electrochemical methods, this assay has a detection limit that is better by three orders of magnitude. The relative standard deviation is 3.4% for the determination of 10 μM of the medical chloramine-T sample, and the recovery of a samples containing chloramine-T at a level of 10 μM is 115%.
Highly sensitive electrochemical detection of chloramine-T is achieved based on the reaction of chloramine-T with p -aminophenylboronic acid with a detection limit of 6 nM.

Dielectric materials with high energy storage density are attracting scientific and commercial interest due to the prospect of application in advanced electronic devices and electric power systems. Ceramic/polymer composite is one of the most promising materials to obtain high energy density because it combines high permittivity from ceramic and high breakdown strength as well as flexibility from polymer matrix. However, the homogeneous dispersion and compatibility of nanoparticles in polymers matrix are still of great challenges due to the different surface energy between inorganic fillers and organic polymer matrix. Interfaces modification for ceramic fillers is an effective way to ease the mentioned problems. Herein, we proposed a low-cost and environmentally friendly route to prepare a core–shell structure by paraffin engineer the BaTiO 3 nanoparticles. The modified BaTiO 3 nanoparticles exhibited homogeneous dispersion in the ferroelectric polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (P(VDF-HFP)) matrix and strong interfacial adhesion with the polymer matrix. The nanocomposites prepared in this work showed notably enhanced energy storage density. The maximum storage energy density of the nanocomposite with 50 vol% BaTiO 3 increased to 21.1 J/cm 3 at 150 kV/mm. These results indicate that paraffin is an effective modifier to prepare high energy storage density capacitor.

Two new gelators containing bis-naphthalimides group were designed and synthesized. The gelator 1b could form gels in DMF and mixed solvent of DMSO/H 2 O (10/1, v/v). The self-assembly processes of 1b in two kinds of solvents were detailedly investigated by UV–vis, fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction and contact angle experiments. The experiment results showed the hydrogen bonding was the main force for the gel formation. The gel 1b formed in mixed solvent of DMSO/H 2 O (10/1, v/v) possessed of the ability of distinguishing of o -phenylenediamine, m -phenylenediamine and p -phenylenediamine. At the same time, the gelator 1b could selectively and sensitively detect p -phenylenediamine in solution with the detection limit of 8.961 × 10 − 8 M L − 1 . The detection experiment was also confirmed by DFT theoretical calculations. This research would expand the supramolecular self-assembly materials application in sensor field and offer a new detection method for organic amines.

Intestinal ischemia reperfusion (I/R) may cause inflammation-, oxidative stress-, and apoptosis-related tissue injuries and facilitate bacterial infection, leading to multiple organ failure. Myricetin , a flavonoid , is found to have diverse biological effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-bacterial effects. Based on our pre-experiment, we proposed that myricetin pretreatment (25, 50 mg/kg) could ameliorate intestinal I/R injury and myricetin-induced modulation on MKK7/JNK signal pathway might play a key role in the amelioration. The present study was designed to verify the proposal by using both rat intestinal I/R model in vivo and hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-injured intestinal epithelial cell line (IEC-6 cells) model in vitro. The results confirmed our proposal. Myricetin selectively ameliorated I/R- and H/R-induced injuries in vivo and in vitro respectively without significantly affecting the corresponding normal controls. Myricetin significantly alleviated I/R-induced rat intestinal injury by reducing the generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 and by reducing MPO activity. Myricetin significantly reduced oxidative stress through decreasing MDA level and increasing the levels of SOD and GSH in the intestinal tissues compared with I/R control rats. Myricetin significantly decreased apoptosis by selectively down-regulating the expression of p-MKK7 and p-JNK without affecting MKK7 and JNK, inhibiting Bax, caspase-3 protein expression, and up-regulating Bcl-2 protein expression in I/R-injured jejunum of rats. In vitro study indicated that MKK7 siRNA transfection significantly decreased both MKK7 and p-MKK7 and other apoptosis-related proteins, partially simulating myricetin-induced anti-apoptotic effects. MKK7 siRNA transfection + myricetin could not further decrease MKK7, p-MKK7, and other apoptosis-related proteins, suggesting that inhibition of MKK7/JNK pathway plays a key role in myricetin-induced protection against intestinal I/R. MKK7 overexpression by cDNA transfection abrogated myricetin-reduced apoptosis-related protein expression, confirming that the MKK7/JNK signal pathway is the key target for myricetin-induced amelioration. The present study indicated that pretreatment of myricetin induced selective protection against intestinal I/R injury without significantly affecting corresponding normal controls and p-MKK7 was the key target, suggesting that myricetin is worth further translational studies.

AuPd nanoparticles (NPs) protected by tetradecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (TTAB) were coated with SiO2 through hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). The as-synthesized AuPd@SiO2 core–shell NPs were calcined in air at 500 °C to remove TTAB and
open up mesopores within the SiO2 shells. The obtained Au–PdO@m-SiO2 NPs were reduced by H2 at 300 °C to obtain AuPd@m-SiO2 NPs with AuPd NP cores (diameter: ~3 nm) and SiO2 shells (thickness: ~18 nm). Results from relevant characterization
indicated that these SiO2-protected core–shell NPs were highly stable during calcination and subsequent reduction. Au@m-SiO2, Au10Pd@m-SiO2, Au5Pd@m-SiO2, AuPd5@m-SiO2, AuPd10@m-SiO2,
and Pd@m-SiO2 NPs with similar core sizes and shell thicknesses were also synthesized. These samples were tested in the catalytic hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene. The activity and selectivity were found to be tunable, depending on the composition of the bimetallic alloys.
AuPd@m-SiO2 NPs with a 1/1 molar ratio of Au/Pd showed the highest selectivity for the hydrodechlorination of p-chloronitrobenzene.

This study was to investigate the inhibition effects of para -substituted cinnamic acid derivatives (4-chlorocinnamic acid, 4-ethoxycinnamic acid and 4-nitrocinnamic acid) on tyrosinase catalyzing the substrates, with the purpose of elucidating the inhibition mechanism of the tested derivatives on tyrosinase by the UV–vis spectrum, fluorescence spectroscopy, copper interacting and molecular docking, respectively. The native-PAGE results showed that 4-chlorocinnamic acid (4-CCA), 4-ethoxycinnamic acid (4-ECA) and 4-nitrocinnamic acid (4-NCA) had inhibitory effects on tyrosinase. Spectrophotometric analysis used to determine the inhibition capabilities of these compounds on tyrosinase catalyzing L-tyrosine (L-Tyr) and L-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) as well. The IC 50 values and inhibition constants were further determined. Moreover, quenching mechanisms of tested compounds to tyrosinase belonged to static type and a red shift on fluorescence emission peak occurred when 4-NCA added. Copper interacting and molecular docking demonstrated that 4-CCA could not bind directly to the copper, but it could interact with residues in the active center of tyrosinase. Meanwhile, 4-ECA and 4-NCA could chelate a copper ion of tyrosinase. Anti-tyrosinase activities of para -substituted cinnamic acid derivatives would lay scientific foundation for their utilization in designing of novel tyrosinase inhibitors.

2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a highly toxic persistent organic pollutant (POP) that can induce DNA damage within cells. Although oxidative stress is one of the primary mechanisms causing DNA damage, its role in the process of TCDD-induced DNA damage remains unclear. In this study, the TCDD-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the occurrence of DNA damage at the AP site were monitored simultaneously. Further investigation revealed that TCDD impaired the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), compromising the cellular antioxidant defense system. Consequently, this led to an increase in the production of O 2 .− and NO, thus inducing DNA damage at the AP site under oxidative stress. Our findings were further substantiated by the upregulation of key genes in the base excision repair (BER) pathway and the absence of DNA AP site damage after inhibiting O 2 .− and NO. In addition, transcriptome sequencing revealed that TCDD induces DNA damage by upregulating genes associated with oxidative stress in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), and breast cancer pathways. This study provides important insights into the toxicity mechanisms of TCDD.

This study is based on the strategies of composite and element doping. Herein, P-MoS 2 /rGO materials were synthesized using a solvent-assisted hydrothermal method. The MoS 2 nanosheets were uniformly and vertically grown on rGO; meanwhile, the optimized structure of MoS 2 was achieved by P doping, resulting in improved catalytic performance and structural stability. Under alkaline conditions, the P-MoS 2 /rGO catalyst exhibits good electrocatalytic activity, demonstrating a Tafel slope of 70.7 mV dec −1 and an overpotential of 172.8 mV at 10 mA/cm 2 . Notably, even after 3000 consecutive LSV tests, the curves still show a high degree of overlap, indicating exceptional stability.

This study investigated a novel electrocatalyst with a core–shell structure of CoNiP@N,P-C. The unique carbon shell of this catalyst serves a dual purpose: exposing numerous active sites and safeguarding CoNiP nanoparticles from dissolution caused by the electrolyte. As a result, the CoNiP@N,P-C nanoparticles exhibit exceptional electrochemical properties. The CoNiP@N,P-C catalyst displays overpotentials of 234 and 314 mV for the HER and OER, respectively, within a simulated seawater solution (1 M KOH + 0.5 M NaCl), indicating its outstanding catalytic performance. Moreover, when subjected to full seawater splitting, the CoNiP@N,P-C catalyst exhibited high activity, achieving a 1.71 V cell voltage at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. As revealed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the CoNiP@N,P-C catalyst exhibits Gibbs free energy for hydrogen adsorption (ΔGH* = −0.19 eV) that is decreased in comparison with CoP@N,P-C, NiP@N,P-C, and N,P-C (−0.321 eV, −0.434 eV, and 0.723 eV, respectively). This finding confirms that the core–shell structure plays a role in enhancing the HER kinetics and improving the catalytic performance, which is consistent with the experimental observations. Consequently, this study introduces the concept of utilizing bimetal phosphide core–shell structures for overall seawater splitting, offering a novel approach in this field of research.

Human body temperature is a critical physiological indicator, reflecting metabolism and temperature regulation. Biomimetic temperature sensors with high temporal and spatial resolution are highly desired to emulate human skin's temperature perception capabilities. Here, a selective filtration method is proposed to fabricate a jointless p-n thermoelectric module, integrating p-type and n-type materials with minimal interfacial barriers. The structure enables rapid response, minimal signal variation, and a robust linear relationship between open circuit voltage and temperature difference, making it suitable as a biomimetic thermoreceptor for enhancing humanoid robots with intelligent sensing capabilities. A smart thermoelectric sensing system with a high temporal and spatial resolution is developed using with jointless p-n module as the sensing element. In temporal thermal sensing, the sensing system can timely and effectively identify the heat source, with a fast response time of <0.1 s. In addition, in spatial thermal sensing, the system reliably detects thermal stimuli within discrete regions of each measuring area of <1 × 1 cm 2 . This study provides an effective strategy for temperature sensors in thermoelectric sensing and biomimetic thermoreceptor applications.

The inherent brittleness and flammability of epoxy resin (EP) significantly limit its applications in high-performance fields. To address these challenges, a P-functionalized diphenyl-methylvinyl-copolysiloxane additive (DOPS) was synthesized via a simple method using diphenylsilane, dimethoxymethylvinylsilane, and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO). This additive was incorporated into epoxy systems cured with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), effectively enhancing both toughness and flame retardancy. When the DOPS content reached 6.93 wt%, the DOPS-4 thermosets achieved a V-0 rating in the UL-94 test. Additionally, the total heat release (THR) and total smoke production (TSP) of the DOPS-4 sample decreased by 41.34 % and 39.04 %, respectively, compared to the neat EP thermoset. These improvements were attributed to the trapping effect of P-containing radicals and the formation of a P/Si-containing char layer, which effectively inhibited combustion and reduced smoke and heat release. In addition, the flexural and impact strengths of DOPS-4 were improved by 15.6 % and 95.3 %, respectively, compared to the neat EP thermoset. These enhancements were ascribed to the rigid phosphaphenanthrene segments and abundant flexible chains in DOPS. Moreover, the DOPS-modified epoxy thermosets still exhibited excellent thermal stability. In sum, this work provides a facile and effective strategy to enhance the toughness and flame retardancy of epoxy thermosets, offering promising potential for advanced material applications.
