In this study, a fluorescence and Fe 3+ ions-responsive cerium-based metal organic framework is decorated on phytic acid-glucose hydrothermal copolymer-coated montmorillonite (MMT@CP@Ce-MOF) nanocontainer, which was developed for Q235 carbon steel's corrosion protection and detection in solution, waterborne epoxy coatings (WEP), and solvent epoxy coatings (EP). In the solution phase, the corrosion detection ability of Q235 carbon steel was introduced, relying on the Fe 3+ ions-responsive characteristic of MMT@CP@Ce-MOF. In the coating phase, WEP and EP with good barrier effect, active anti-corrosion, self-detection, and good mechanical performance were fabricated by integrating MMT@CP@Ce-MOF nanocontainers. The EIS results indicated that 2D MMT@CP@Ce-MOF based composite coating showed better anti-corrosion performance (the |Z| f= 0.01Hz value of EP-MMT@CP@Ce-MOF and WEP-MMT@CP@Ce-MOF remained 1.33 × 10 9 Ω·cm 2 and 2.71 × 10 8 Ω·cm 2 , respectively, far higher than the bare coating) after 40 d immersion. At the same time, the Ce-MOF nanosensor could accurately reflect the occurrence of corrosion at the coating damage sites. Furthermore, high adhesion force (2–3 times higher than bare coating) and results of coating fracture surface showed that homogenously incorporated MMT@CP@Ce-MOF could improve the composite coating mechanical properties by chemical interaction with the epoxy polymer.

The development of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based composite systems for visible-light-driven organic photocatalysis under mild conditions, offering an effective approach for sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis. Herein, we synthesized Z-scheme photocatalysts CdS/Ce-UiO-66 by combining the representative photocatalyst CdS and Ce-UiO-66, demonstrating excellent photocatalytic performance for imines synthesis in air. The CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites demonstrated significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for the oxidative coupling of amines under visible-light irradiation in air, outperforming their individual components. Remarkably, the composite achieved conversion of benzylamine with exclusive formation of imines as the sole product and efficiency up to 84 % at least four cycles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic system exhibited excellent substrate adaptability, demonstrating broad applicability across various amine substrates. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of CdS/Ce-UiO-66 composites can be primarily attributed to the uniform dispersion of CdS nanoparticles and the unique heterostructure system that effectively modulates the band gap, extends the light absorption range, and promotes charge carrier separation. This study not only presents an efficient photocatalytic strategy for the direct synthesis of imines through oxidative coupling of amines but also demonstrates the significant potential of photoactive CdS/MOF hybrid systems in sustainable chemical synthesis.

Phosphates within tumors function as key biomolecules, playing a significant role in sustaining the viability of tumors. To disturb the homeostasis of cancer cells, regulating phosphate within the organism proves to be an effective strategy. Herein, we report single-atom Ce-doped Pt hydrides (Ce/Pt–H) with high phosphatase-like activity for phosphate hydrolysis. The resultant Ce/Pt–H exhibits a 26.90- and 6.25-fold increase in phosphatase-like activity in comparison to Ce/Pt and Pt–H, respectively. Mechanism investigations elucidate that the Ce Lewis acid site facilitates the coordination with phosphate groups, while the surface hydrides enhance the electron density of Pt for promoting catalytic ability in H2O cleavage and subsequent nucleophilic attack of hydroxyl groups. Finally, by leveraging its phosphatase-like activity, Ce/Pt–H can effectively regulate intracellular phosphates to disrupt redox homeostasis and amplify oxidative stress within cancer cells, ultimately leading to tumor apoptosis. This work provides fresh insights into noble-metal-based phosphatase mimics for inducing tumor apoptosis.

Co-Fe spinel oxides are attractive alternatives to noble metal-based electrocatalysts for water splitting due to their abundant reserves, unique electrochemical redox characteristics and inherent stability. However, their alkaline HER performance under high-current conditions remains limited by inefficient water adsorption/dissociation and suboptimal hydrogen adsorption balance. Herein, a 600-cm 2 amorphous Ce-doped Co 2 FeO 4 cathode with Zn vacancies (Ce, Zn v -Co 2 FeO 4 ) were synthesized by electrodeposition and alkaline etching method. It exhibits exceptional alkaline HER performance with low overpotentials of 47.5 and 247.5 mV at 10 and 1000 mA cm −2 , meanwhile maintaining high stability over 500 h at 1000 mA cm −2 with a potential retention rate of 96.5%. The resulting water electrolyzer with Ce, Zn v -Co 2 FeO 4 as cathode only needs a cell voltage of 1.90 V at 1000 mA cm −2 for overall water splitting. In-situ electrochemical tests and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the synergistic effect of Ce doping and Zn vacancies in Co 2 FeO 4 leads to a 50% reduction in bandgap, thereby enhancing conductivity. It also facilitates spontaneous water adsorption and dissociation, reduces the energy barrier by 46%, and optimizes the balance of hydrogen adsorption/desorption, thereby ultimately enhancing HER activity. This study presents a potential strategy to address the performance limitations of spinel-based HER catalysts.

Iron-cerium co-doped carbon dots (Fe,Ce-CDs) were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method using tartaric acid and L-tryptophan as ligands. Fe,Ce-CDs shows excellent peroxidase-like (POD) activity and nitrite (NO 2 − ) can promote the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its blue oxidation product (oxTMB) due to the formation of ∙NO 2 free radical. NO 2 − further react with oxTMB to form a yellow color via diazotization resulting in the absorbance Change at 450 nm. By Fe,Ce-CDs + NO 2 − + TMB + H 2 O 2 and oxTMB + NO 2 − systems, a dual-signal colorimetric nanosensor for NO 2 − detection is developed with lower detection limits (LODs) of 0.272 μg/L and 0.019 mg/L, respectively. The proposed methods were applied to the detection of NO 2 − in tobacco samples with good recovery from 91.20 to 110.61%, achieving similar results and indicating their high accuracy and feasibility. Purpose This work aims to investigate the thermal behavior and kinetic characteristics of polyethylene (PE) pyrolysis over Cu/Ce modified ZSM-5. The influences of metal types, particles size of active center and interaction of Cu–Ce species on products distribution are elucidated. Methods Metal-modified ZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by negative pressure impregnation method. Catalytic fast pyrolysis and thermogravimetric experiments were conducted using Py–GC/MS and TG/MS for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of pyrolysis products. Results Morphology characterization indicated the interaction of Cu–Ce species facilitated the regulation of active center size into a nanoparticle scale. The final products were restricted to a carbon number of less than 9 over CuCe/ZSM-5. Cu–Ce modification increased the aliphatic content from 58.5 to 76.1%. Kinetic analysis revealed a remarkable reduction in activation energies during both the intermediate and final stages, where an average decrease of 30% was achieved. Conclusion The synergistic effects of Cu 0 and CeO x facilitated the formation of more short chain olefins by enhancing C–C bonds cleavage activity. Undesired polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were avoided by the optimal steric hindrance of CuCe/ZSM-5. Graphical Abstract

Minocycline (MNC), as a second-generation semi-synthetic derivative of tetracycline, poses a potential carcinogenic threat to organisms in water, therefore high efficient removal of MNC is becoming a crucial key for water quality safety. This study has been successfully synthesized Ag/Ce bimetallic–doped MOF materials with diverse morphological characteristics by using microwave digestion and solvothermal methods, and it was demonstrated a significant adsorption potential in MNC from aqueous solutions. The characterization results were revealed that Ce exhibits oxygen vacancy enrichment as the central metal in MOFs, while Ag was distributed on carbon framework in the form of Ag 0 NPs, both of morphological features were provided more active sites for adsorption. The Ag/Ce–MOFs was achieved 98.26 % exceptional MNC adsorption efficiency at pH 9, which was followed a multilayer exothermic chemisorption mechanism. The results were shown that the maximum adsorption capacity of Ag/Ce-MOFs was 476.2 mg/g in Langmuir model, which was much more substantially surpassed than Ce–MOFs. In addition, the adsorption process was primarily mediated through hydrogen bonding, ligand interactions and amidation reactions. Furthermore, the Ag/Ce–MOFs exhibited the excellent regeneration performance and broad applicability, which was shown remarkable adsorption potential in removing various other pharmaceutical contaminants in water. Calcium looping represents a high-temperature method designed to capture CO 2 , making it appropriate for CO 2 capture from flue gases post-combustion in power plants after combustion or for integration with fuel transformation techniques in pre-combustion CO 2 sequestration systems. This method employs solid sorbents of CaO sourced from natural limestone, leveraging the chemical interaction of CaO with CO 2 , which ultimately results in the formation of CaCO 3 , thereby facilitating effective CO 2 capture. In this research, multiple metal-incorporated CaO-based sorbents were produced through the sol–gel method. Notably, the CaO-based sorbent with a Ca/Ce doping ratio of 15 demonstrates exceptional CO 2 capture ability and stability, maintaining 13.20 mmol/g of CO 2 adsorption capacity after 20 carbonation/calcination cycles. Various characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (HAADF-STEM/EDS), temperature-programmed-desorption with CO 2 (CO 2 -TPD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are employed to demonstrate that the presence of nanoscale CeO 2 significantly enhanced the diffusion of CO 2 during the adsorption process.

Traditional Mn-Ce catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with CO (CO-SCR) in iron and steel flue gases are often hindered by competitive adsorption of NO and CO, which compromises catalytic efficiency. In this study, we present a Ni-doped Mn-Ce catalyst that overcomes these challenges, achieving 96 % NO conversion, 98 % N 2 selectivity, and 44 % CO conversion at 175 °C. Comprehensive characterization of the catalyst reveals that Ni doping significantly enhances Mn-Ce interactions, boosting oxygen vacancy density and promoting efficient redox cycling between Mn 3 + /Mn 4+ and Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ . Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) confirms preferential NO adsorption at oxygen vacancy sites, minimizing CO-NO competition and stabilizing the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism, where both gases co-adsorb and react at oxygen-rich vacancies. Mechanistic insights suggest that Ni facilitates electron transfer, weakening the N–O bond in NO and accelerating its dissociation, resulting in faster NO reduction. This study establishes Ni doping as a promising strategy for improving the low-temperature performance of Mn-Ce-based CO-SCR catalysts, paving the way for more efficient catalytic systems.

Heavy oil in-situ catalytic technology faces challenges like complex reservoirs, harsh environments, and high viscosity. Developing efficient in-situ catalysts is a key research focus. This study synthesized a Fe/Ce bimetallic organic framework (Fe/Ce-MOF) that addresses critical issues in heavy oil recovery. Under mild conditions at 140℃ with 0.5 wt% catalyst and 2 wt% hydrogen donor for 24 h, Fe/Ce-MOF achieved a 90.15 % reduction in viscosity and a 16.51 % decrease in asphaltene content. The characterization analysis and simulation results collectively reveal that the bimetallic MOF has a synergistic effect. On the one hand, the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ redox cycle promotes the cracking of large molecules into smaller ones. On the other hand, the Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ redox cycle facilitates the formation of oxygen vacancies (O v ). Under the combined effect of the dynamic redox cycles of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ and Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ , the electron transfer efficiency of the catalyst is significantly enhanced, increasing the rate of heavy oil pyrolysis and hydrogenation. The coexistence of Fe and Ce modifies the charge distribution in heavy oil MOF, enhancing Lewis acidity and promoting interaction with heteroatoms. Additionally, the coexistence of mesoporous and macropores in the bimetallic framework not only facilitated mass transfer and fully utilized the catalytic activity of active sites but also effectively resolves the issue of traditional microporous MOFs are prone to being blocked by larger asphaltene molecules, thereby improving their operational stability. This study proposes a novel strategy for the design and development of in-situ catalytic viscosity reduction catalysts for heavy oil, highlighting the high efficiency, excellent stability, and environmental compatibility of bimetallic MOF in low-temperature catalytic pyrolysis, and demonstrating their significant potential for practical applications.

SrTiO 3 is a quantum paraelectric with cubic symmetry that resists long-range ferroelectricity, but targeted substitution and defect ordering can unlock polar states. Here, we report novel ferroelectricity and high microwave permittivity in a novel Sr (1-1.5 x ) Ce x TiO 3 (SCTO@ x for x = 0.5) (SCTO) solid solution. XRD and Rietveld refinement reveal stabilization of an orthorhombic Pmmm phase, supported by TEM superlattice reflections linked to TiO 6 tilts and antiparallel A-site displacements, while energy landscape analysis confirms this orthorhombic configuration as the strain-relieved ground state. Raman spectra show defect-activated E g and A 1g modes from oxygen-vacancy ordering, and XPS identifies a Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ ↔ Ti 3+ /Ti 4+ redox equilibrium with abundant vacancies. SEM/AFM reveal dense twin-striped grains that grow in size coarsen with sintering, reducing disorder. Dielectric spectra show a low-temperature relaxor response and a high-temperature transition: at 1270 °C both are diffuse and frequency-dependent, whereas at 1300 °C the high-temperature anomaly sharpens into a frequency-independent displacive ferroelectric transition (T C ∼ 449 °C, T CW ∼486 °C), supported by slim P–E loops, higher remanence, and TEM-confirmed domains. The coexistence of relaxor fluctuations with long-range ferroelectric order highlights a crossover from defect-induced short-range polarization to domain-driven coherence, which directly enhances microwave permittivity (ε r ∼82, Q × f∼12800 GHz, and τ f ∼ 205 ppm/°C) by combining soft-mode contributions with reduced extrinsic losses. These findings establish that reduction-controlled defect ordering stabilizes orthorhombic ferroelectricity absent in pristine SrTiO 3 , providing a clear design pathway for functional dielectrics through defect-engineered lattice symmetry.
