In this work, it is shown that both pure zincblende and wurtzite structures of Cu 2 SnS 3 (CTS) nanocrystals (NCs) have been synthesized by a facile one-spot heating-up procedure. By controlling the solvent ratios, different phase components of zincblende and wurtzite mix-phase CTS NCs were also obtained. The effect of different precursors and surfactants on the phase selectivity of CTS NCs was investigated, and a phase-controlled mechanism is proposed: the crystal structures of the resulting CTS NCs are related to the initial structure forms of the Cu x S seeds, and the different phase structures are formed as a result of the initial redox conditions. When the reaction was conducted under reducing conditions, Cu 2 S (or Cu 31 S 16 ) seeds were formed, leading to the formation of wurtzite CTS nanocrystals. When the conditions were less reducing, the initial CuS (or Cu 1.84 S) seeds resulted in the zincblende structure CTS nanocrystals. Graphical Different phase components of zincblende and wurtzite mix-phase Cu 2 SnSe 3 nanocrystals (NCs) were obtained. The phase selectivity of the Cu 2 SnSe 3 NCs is related to the initial redox conditions. Wurtzite Cu 2 SnSe 3 NCs formed because of the Cu 31 S 16 seeds, and the CuS seeds led to zincblende structure Cu 2 SnSe 3 NCs.

An acyl hydrazide probe ( E )- N′ -(1-(7-(diethylamino)-2-oxo-2 H -chromen-3-yl)ethylidene)-4- (4,5-diphenyl-1 H -imidazol-2-yl)benzohydrazide (DDB), based on imidazole and coumarin structures was synthesized and structurally characterized by FT-IR, 1 H, 13 C NMR, and HR-MS. The sensing behavior of the probe was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The probe DDB exhibits sensitive and selective recognition of Cu 2+ in EtOH-H 2 O (1:1, v /v) through the weakened fluorescence effect upon chelation. The detection limit of DDB for Cu 2+ is 7.25 nm. As can be seen from the Job's plot, the binding constant of DDB to Cu 2+ is 2.24 × 10 5 M −1 , and the stoichiometric ratio of DDB to Cu 2+ is 1:1. The reusability of the probe was evaluated by alternately adding Cu 2+ and EDTA to the DDB solution. The probe DDB was used to quantitatively detect Cu 2+ in actual water samples from different water sources. The recovery rate is within the acceptable range, indicating that the probe DDB can be used for the quantitative detection of Cu 2+ in actual water samples. The potential application of this probe in fingerprint detection was studied, providing inspiration for the development of fingerprint detection and anti-counterfeiting technologies. In addition, this probe has been successfully applied to the monitoring of Cu 2+ in living cells.

Copper is an indispensable trace element for human health. Too much or too little intake of copper ion (Cu 2+ ) can lead to its own adverse health conditions. Therefore, detection of Cu 2+ is always of vital importance. In this work, a simple sensor was developed for rapid detection of trace Cu 2+ in water, in which L-cysteine (Cys) as a molecular probe was self-assembled on a gold interdigital electrode to form a monolayer for specific capture of Cu 2+ . The interfacial capacitance of interdigital electrode was detected to indicate the target adsorption level under an AC signal working as the excitation to induce directed movement and enrichment of Cu 2+ to the electrode surface. This sensor reached a limit of detection of 4.14 fM and a satisfactory selectivity against eight other ions (Zn 2+ , Hg 2+ , Pb 2+ , Cd 2+ , Mg 2+ , Fe 2+ , As 3+ , and As 5+ ). Testing of spiked tap water was also performed, demonstrating the sensor's usability. This sensor as well as the detection method shows a great application potential in fields such as environmental monitoring and medical diagnosis.

Dual-mode sensing of Al 3+ /Cu 2+ by a novel ferrocene derivative SH-Fc. • SH-Fc detects Al 3+ via a fluorescence turn-on response. • SH-Fc shows colorimetric and electrochemical responses to Cu 2+ . • SH-Fc detects Al 3+ /Cu 2+ in real samples via dual channels. • Smartphone-based platform realizes on-site quantification of metal ions. A novel multichannel fluorescent probe SH-Fc based on ferrocene, salicylaldehyde hydrazone and benzothiazole moieties was synthesized and fully characterized. The probe exhibits highly selective recognition of Al 3+ and Cu 2+ through dual-mode responses. Specifically, it shows significant fluorescence enhancement toward Al 3+ , while displaying distinct colorimetric and electrochemical changes upon addition of Cu 2+ . Furthermore, SH-Fc[Al 3+ ] complex allows for subsequent determination of Cu 2+ through the fluorescence model. Al 3+ and Cu 2+ exhibited calculated detection limits as low as 1.7 × 10 −7 M and 9.6 × 10 −8 M, respectively. SH-Fc and SH-Fc[Al 3+ ] were successfully applied for the detection of Al 3+ and Cu 2+ in real samples (including water, food, and traditional Chinese medicines) through fluorescence and electrochemical channels. Importantly, a smartphone-based color recognition application was employed for quantitative on-site analysis, providing a portable and practical approach for Al 3+ and Cu 2+ monitoring in daily life. Graphical Eu@ 1 , which is obtained by post-synthetic modification, as an excellent luminescent probe to detect Cu 2+ high selective through the emitting color changing from red to blue among 11 metal ions. The exploration of mechanism indicates Cu 2+ can replace Eu 3+ in the channels and small part of central ions without any structure disintegration of the framework. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous coordination polymer. Recently, some studies have been focused on the detection of various analytes using luminescent MOFs. In this study, an MOF, Eu@ 1 , is synthesized using ([Zn 3 (TAPB) 2 (CH 3 OH) 2 ]) ( 1 ) as a precursor to encapsulate Eu 3+ . It has large pores and excellent luminescent properties, and the quantum yield is up to 30.2%, which can be used as a luminescent probe for highly selective Cu 2+ sensing. It is simple and intuitive to use a lanthanide-doped MOF for highly sensitive sensing of Cu 2+ by the change of emitting color (from red to blue). The inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data indicate that Cu 2+ can easily be exchanged with Eu 3+ in 1D channels and replace a portion of the central ions. The good luminescent properties and visible color detectable to the naked eye demonstrate the potential application of this probe in colorimetric detection.

Copper ions (Cu2+) are ubiquitous in the ecosystem and cause serious environmental pollution, posing a threat to human health. Therefore, sensitive detection of Cu2+ is urgently needed. Herein, we employed a solvothermal method to prepare blue-emitting carbon dots (Met-CDs) using formamide (FA) and methionine (Met) as precursors, with a high quantum yield (QY) of 38%. Based on the good optical stability of Met-CDs and selective quenching by Cu2+, a sensitive probe using Met-CDs for the detection of Cu2+ in water was successfully designed. Within the linear range of 0.15–2 μM, the limit of detection (LOD) was determined to be as low as 47.7 nM, enabling the quantitative detection of Cu2+. Moreover, the recovery data of the spiked analysis of lake/river water samples were also satisfactory and verified the feasibility of the probe by the analysis of Cu2+ in natural conditions.

As an important trace element in the human body, the concentration of Cu2+ has an important impact on the environment and human health, and its quantitative determination is of great significance in the fields of environmental protection and food safety. Here, a ratiometric fluorescent probe based on Tb(III)-functionalized UiO-66-type MOFs has been synthesized via a facile post-synthetic modification method by employing mixed linkers containing terephthalic acid and 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid for Cu2+ detection. The blue fluorescence intensity at 440 nm from the ligands of MOFs does not change much with increasing Cu2+ concentrations and can be used as a reference signal, while the green fluorescence of Tb3+ can be rapidly and selectively quenched, causing fluorescence intensity at 547 nm to decrease. The probe can be used as a ratiometric sensor for Cu2+ detection with a good linear response and low detection limit. The use of the probe for the determination of Cu2+ in real water samples and drinks shows good practicality. This method for Cu2+ detection is simple, specific and visualized to meet the needs of environmental monitoring and food analysis and provides a new strategy for the construction of new copper ion fluorescent sensors to analyze complex samples.

A bisubstrate colorimetric system was developed for rapid and multi-color assay of copper ion (Cu 2+ ). Cu 2+ -triethylamine (Cu 2+ -TEA) complex with the peroxidase-like activity can catalyze the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce oxidized TMB (TMB + , color in blue) and dopamine (DA) to oxidized DA (oxDA, color in orange) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, which can obtain a three-color colorimetric result due to the couple of complementary colors of blue and orange. The determination of Cu 2+ is achieved based on the absorbance value at 460 nm of the composite peak of TMB + and oxDA. After systematically optimizing the reaction conditions, the developed bisubstrate colorimetric method exhibits high sensitivity for the detection of Cu 2+ (limit of quantitation (LOQ) is 0.0625 μM) with a wide linear range of 0.0625–8.0 μM (R 2 = 0.991). Meanwhile, the reaction solution shows an orange, brown, and green color change with the increase in Cu 2+ concentration, which can realize the semi-quantitatively detection by the naked eyes. Furthermore, TMB was also used as a single substrate for Cu 2+ detection with a linear range of 0.5–9.0 μM (R 2 = 0.994), and the LOQ is determined to be 0.5 μM. The LOQ of bisubstrate system is 8 times lower than that of single substrate system, indicating a higher sensitivity for the detection of Cu 2+ using the bisubstrate colorimetric system. In addition, the developed bisubstrate colorimetric method exhibits excellent selectivity for Cu 2+ detection, which was applied in the determination of Cu 2+ in lake water and soil samples, and satisfactory spiked recoveries were obtained.

Basic copper chloride (Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl) microspheres with different surface nanostructure were synthesized via the dissolution regulation of calcite in CuCl 2 solution. We studied the influence of CuCl 2 concentration, reaction time and reaction temperature on the formation of Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl, and the products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy , field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy . The concentration of CuCl 2 has a great influence on the dissolution rate of calcite, dispersed microsphere particles assembled by nano-blocks formed in 20 mM CuCl 2 solution. The surface of Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl microsphere change from nano-block to nano-rod with increasing the reaction time from 20 min to 2 h Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl microspheres with surface structure changed from nano-sheet, nano-plate to nano-block with the reaction temperature increase from 37 °C to 70 °C. The Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl microsphere also displays superior antibacterial properties against S. aureus and E. coli . This work displays a new strategy to synthesize functional materials by the use of dissolution regulation methods.

Here, we report a simple and efficient strategy for evenly in situ growth of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F nanosheets on BiVO 4 spheres as a novel photo-Fenton-like catalyst using hydrothermal method. The Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiVO 4 composite catalysts showed great performance for the organic pollutants degradation under visible light irradiation due to the efficient electron transfer and copper species transformation. The synergetic between Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and BiVO 4 not only promoted the separation of electrons and holes but also enhanced the Cu 2+ reduction, thus produced more strong oxidative radicals under a wide pH value range. The activity of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiVO 4 composite for methylene blue degradation was 6.03 and 5.47 times more than that of pristine Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and BiVO 4 , respectively. The composite catalysts were characterized with various methods and their stability and adaptability were also evaluated. Finally, a possible photo-Fenton-like reaction mechanism was also proposed based on the band structure/position and reaction species.

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) has the potential application of establishing a delivery system for flavonoids. However, the effect of copper on the binding of flavonoids with BSA is unclear. Therefore, the binding of six flavonoids with BSA containing Cu 2+ was investigated using UV–vis, fluorescence, and molecular docking. The UV–vis spectral changes demonstrated the formation of flavonoid-Cu 2+ complexes. The fluorescence quenching results suggested that the chelation of Cu 2+ increased the binding affinity of galangin and baicalin to the BSA but decreased the binding capacity of chrysin, baicalein, luteolin, and vitexin. Synchronous fluorescence data revealed that Cu 2+ could influence the secondary structure conformation of BSA binding with flavonoids, which was further confirmed by ANS-binding fluorescence, circular dichroism, and molecular docking. These findings demonstrate that the complexation of Cu 2+ significantly affects the binding of flavonoids with BSA, which provides the theoretical basis for the development of natural product-metal complex functional foods.

Graphical We have synthesized a dual-emissive colorimetric fluorescent glutathione carbon dot (GSH-CDs) probe that can be used to detect Zn 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Cu 2+ separately or simultaneously by observing the change in fluorescence color and referring to the truth table. Because the probe has low cytotoxicity, it can be used in cell imaging. Dual-emissive fluorescent glutathione carbon dots (GSH-CDs) have been synthesized by a green hydrothermal method and used as a colorimetric fluorescent probe for the multi-detection of Zn 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Cu 2+ individually or simultaneously. The GSH-CDs exhibit dual fluorescence emission at 460 and 683 nm, which results in cyan fluorescence emission under UV light. The dual-emissive GSH-CDs can be used as a multifunctional colorimetric fluorescent nanoprobe for precise and quantitative detection of Zn 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Cu 2+ through a change in the color of the fluorescence. Upon interaction with Zn 2+ , the fluorescent color of the GSH-CDs was transformed from cyan to pink. When exposed to Mn 2+ or Cu 2+ , the fluorescence color was transformed from cyan to blue. When the three ions were present simultaneously, the cyan fluorescence emission changed to a nattier blue. The minimum limits of detection (LODs) for Zn 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Cu 2+ were calculated to be 9.64, 3.24, and 1.7 n m , respectively. As far as we know, this is the first report of the use of dual-emissive carbon dots for the multi-detection of heavy-metal ions. Moreover, the multi-detection of Zn 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Cu 2+ in real environmental water by GSH-CDs was also investigated. In addition the GSH-CDs can be applied in cell imaging.
