Yolk-shell nanoreactors feature numbers of advantages in promoting catalytic performance. This work demonstrates the fabrication of yolk-shell Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 - T ( T = 500–900 °C) from metal-organic framework. Characterizations indicate the Fe 3 O 4 yolk and SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 shell of the obtained nanoreactors. Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 –800 showed excellent performance in furfural acetalization to 2-(dimethoxymethyl)furan, achieving a 97% yield at 60 °C, atmospheric pressure within 5 h. Control experiments reveal the high reactivity of Fe 3 O 4 yolks for furfural acetalization, and acidic Al species are favorable for reactivity promotion. Besides, porous SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 shells facilitate mass transfer and increase the accessibility of active sites, also contribute to the high performance and stability.

Partially reduced graphene oxide-Fe3O4 composite was prepared through in situ co-precipitation and used as an efficient adsorbent for removing Pb(II) from water. The composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectra, Fourier transformation infrared, Raman spectrometer, N2 adsorption–desorption, vibrating sample magnetometer, and zeta potential analyses. The impacts of pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, temperature, and foreign substances on Pb(II) adsorption performance were investigated. The adsorption mechanism, kinetics, and thermodynamics were analyzed. The results indicate that Fe3O4 is homogeneously anchored inside the thin graphene sheets, with a particle size of 15–20 nm, resulting in a very low remanence and coercivity. The composite shows excellent and efficient adsorption performance toward aqueous Pb(II): adsorption equilibrium was reached in 10 min with the adsorption percent and quantity of 95.77% and 373.14 mgċg−1, respectively, under a condition of pH = 6, adsorbent dosage 250 mgċL−1, and Pb(II) initial concentration 97.68 mgċL−1, with the subsequent magnetic separation taking only 10 s. The adsorption performance is dependent on adsorbent dosage. A lower dosage favors a higher adsorption quantity, implying a strong adsorptive potential for partially reduced graphene oxide-Fe3O4. The adsorption quantity reached 777.28 mgċg−1, given the dosage 100 mgċL−1. The adsorption is monolayer chemisorption, the whole process of which is controlled by chemisorption and liquid film diffusion. In terms of thermodynamics, the adsorption is an exothermic and spontaneous process.

A facile methodology is presented to construct a multifunctional nanocomposite that integrates photothermal therapy and specific drug release into a single nanostructure. Firstly, magnetic Fe3O4@polydopamine core–shell nanoparticles (Fe3O4@PDA) were synthesized via a reversed-phase microemulsion approach. By varying the amount of DA, Fe3O4@PDA with a particle size of 28–38 nm can be obtained. To further ensure the monodispersity, biocompatibility and specific uptake, PEG and lactobionic acid (LA) were grafted onto Fe3O4@PDA (LA-Fe3O4@PDA-PEG), whose fast photothermal conversion is derived by the combination of Fe3O4 and PDA with high near infrared (NIR) absorption. Then, doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) was adopted as the typical anticancer drug, which was loaded onto LA-Fe3O4@PDA-PEG via electrostatic and π–π stacking interaction. The release kinetics investigation further demonstrated the acid/heat-triggered DOX release. HepG2 cells (hepatocellular cell line) were used as the target cancer cells, and the fast uptake was due to the nanoparticle size and abundant asialoglycoprotein receptors on HepG2 cells. Besides, an external magnetic field also can improve the uptake, especially when the magnet is placed at the bottom of the cell disk. The enhanced specific cytotoxicity toward HepG2 cells was also ascribed to the synergistic effect of chemo- and photothermal therapy. Based on the novel properties, the LA-Fe3O4@PDA-PEG-DOX nanocomposite showed its potential application in hepatocyte therapy.

Metal-based nanoenzymes with excellent biocompatibility and stable chemical properties are an effective antimicrobial agent against bacterial resistance due to their radical-mediated catalysis. In this work, due to the pH of most bacterial infection sites being close to neutral, targeting the problem of Fe 3 O 4 @Ag difficulty in maintaining the catalytic activity of nanoenzymes in neutral environments, we prepare a novel multifunctional Fe 3 O 4 @Ag@ indocyanine green/adenosine triphosphate peroxidase nanoenzymes for synergistic antibacterial activity. ICG (Indocyanine Green) and ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) are adsorbed on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 @Ag through electrostatic adsorption to form its structure. The cell viability remained above 90%, indicating its good biocompatibility. By complexing ATP with nanoenzymes to participate in single electron transfer and binding with Fe (II), ATP promotes the sudden release of hydroxyl radical (·OH) from the system, successfully transferring Fe 3 O 4 @Ag the peroxidase activity of nanoenzymes extends to neutral pH. By utilizing ICG as a photosensitizer and a sonosensitizer, under the combined treatment of near-infrared light and ultrasound, the photodynamic therapy (PDT)/photothermal therapy (PTT)/sonodynamic therapy (SDT) functions can be achieved, achieving multifunctional synergistic antibacterial effects. In a neutral environment, its bactericidal efficiency against Gram negative ( Escherichia coli ) and Gram positive ( Staphylococcus aureus ) is 99.9% and 99.7%, respectively, providing a new multi-mode synergistic antibacterial strategy for bacterial infections. Graphical abstract Metal based nanoenzymes with excellent biocompatibility and stable chemical properties are an effective antimicrobial agent against bacterial resistance due to their radical mediated catalysis. In this study, a magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr composite photocatalyst was controllably synthesized a PVP-assisted solvothermal method. The Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr composites are composed of many three-dimensional (3D) flower-like BiOBr microspheres loaded with many spherical Fe 3 O 4 particles. The formation mechanism and effect of PVP’s concentration on the products were investigated and proposed. Experimental results showed that PVP might act as a potential crystal plane inhibitor in the system as well as the stabilizer on the surface of BiOBr nanoplates. The Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr displayed high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation, after which it can be easily recovered by applying an external magnetic field. Moreover, the as-prepared photocatalyst exhibited excellent stability and reusability in the cycled experiments.

Graphene is a promising lightweight microwave absorption (MA) absorber, but the limited dielectric loss and nonmagnetic characteristic have impeded its further applications. Through the structure modification, porous (1–2.5 μm) graphene was successfully prepared via a simple pyrolysis process, and the minimum reflection loss (RL) value reached −48 dB at 9.8 GHz, which demonstrated that porous graphene (PG) showed outstanding MA performance than the ordinary graphene (OG). In order to strengthen the magnetic loss, and then boost the impedance matching, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (∼10 nm) were deposited uniformly on the surface of PG via in situ precipitation to synthesize porous graphene-Fe 3 O 4 (PG-Fe 3 O 4 ) composites. It was found that the as-prepared PG-Fe 3 O 4 composites showed especially high MA performance, and the minimum RL of −53.0 dB was achieved at 5.4 GHz with the thickness of 6.1 mm. The absorption bandwidth of RL less than −10 dB was from 12.6 to 18.0 GHz (5.4 GHz) with a thin thickness of 2.7 mm. The excellent MA properties of PG-Fe 3 O 4 composites were the consequence of the perfect impedance matching, porous structure as well as the multi-polarization. These results demonstrated that the PG-Fe 3 O 4 composites with excellent MA properties and lightweight should be promising absorbers for practical applications.

Graphical A range of Fe 3 O 4 /Ag/BiVO 4 /sepiolite composite materials, featuring varying Fe 3 O 4 concentrations, were synthesized utilizing the co-precipitation method. The inherent magnetic characteristics of Fe 3 O 4 , combined with the resultant Z-type heterojunction structure, confer exceptional photo-catalytic prowess upon the material. This enables swift degradation of rhodamine B, and furthermore, facilitates its retrieval for subsequent reuse. To increase specific surface area and light utilization of photo-catalysts, a series of Fe 3 O 4 /Ag/BiVO 4 /sepiolite composites with different Fe 3 O 4 contents were synthesized via co-precipitation. The structure, composition, and optical properties of these composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption and desorption (BET), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), and fluorescence spectroscopy (PL). The photo-catalytic activity of the composites was further evaluated using rhodamine B as a model for photo-catalytic degradation. The results revealed that the composites with optimal Fe 3 O 4 loading exhibited the narrowest bandgap width, approximately 2.13 eV, and the highest electron-hole pair separation efficiency. Rhodamine B could be almost completely degraded within a short illumination time in the presence of the Fe 3 O 4 /Ag/BiVO 4 /sepiolite composites. The degradation mechanism of rhodamine B was proposed to involve the improvement of the photo-catalytic activity of the resulting composites by the Fe 3 O 4 and the Z-type heterojunction structure. Additionally, the composites could be recycled and reused multiple times, making them an environmentally friendly and sustainable option.

In this work, sea urchin-like magnetic Fe3O4@CA/BNNS/AgNP composite microspheres were successfully prepared. The photocatalytic performance of composite microspheres for the organic dye rhodamine B (RhB) was systematically investigated under different conditions, and the catalytic degradation rate of RhB was as high as 95% within 60 min; after three cycles of recycling, the degradation rate of RhB was reduced by only 8%. The main active agents in the reaction are e– and •O2–. Fe3O4@CA/BNNS/AgNP microspheres prepared in this study exhibit photocatalytic and electrochemical properties, making them easy to separate. This work is not limited to the development of Fe3O4-based catalysts but also is expected to provide ideas for the research and progress of photocatalytic composite catalysts with electrochemical properties.

The rapid proliferation of electronic devices and wireless communication technologies has led to growing concerns about electromagnetic (EM) interference and pollution. In this study, a sustainable and highly effective EM wave-absorbing material was developed by in situ decorating moso bamboo with Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles using a hydrothermal co-precipitation method. The intrinsic three-dimensional porous architecture of bamboo, combined with its abundant functional groups and excellent mechanical strength, provided an ideal scaffold for the uniform loading and stable dispersion of magnetic nanoparticles. Compared with conventional pyrolysis-based methods, this low-temperature approach preserved the structural integrity of the bamboo matrix while significantly enhancing its electromagnetic properties. Morphological and structural characterizations confirmed the successful synthesis of well-crystallized Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles uniformly anchored onto the bamboo cell walls. At a thickness of 1.9 mm, electromagnetic measurements revealed that the optimized sample (B-1.5) achieved an outstanding minimum reflection loss (RL) of −72.8 dB, outperforming other sample variants. The exceptional microwave absorption performance was attributed to the synergistic interplay among dielectric loss, magnetic loss, and multiple internal reflections within the material. Moreover, CST simulations combined with radar cross-section (RCS) analyses further validated the excellent attenuation capability of B-1.5 under various incident wave angles. This study offers an environmentally friendly and scalable strategy for the development of biomass-derived electromagnetic absorbing materials, highlighting the substantial potential of magnetic bamboo-based composites for applications in stealth technology and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding.

MWCNT/Fe3O4/Si3N4 composite was synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis. The morphology and structure of MWCNT/Fe3O4/Si3N4 were investigated by means of SEM, XPS, XRD, and FT-IR. Their electromagnetic parameters were measured by a vector network analyzer. The microwave attenuation properties of as-synthesized composite could be modulated by regulating the feed ratio of MWCNT, Fe3O4, and Si3N4. According to the different amounts of modified nano Fe3O4 added, they are labelled as S1-S3. When the feed ratio is 3:15:20, the maximum reflection loss value of the sample is −23.3 dB at 14.4 GHz, the corresponding thickness is 2.5 mm, and the corresponding effective absorption bandwidth is 5.36 GHz. Moreover, the test results of the thermogravimetric analyzer show that the composite material has excellent heat resistance. Our research results provide a reference value for the development of excellent heat resistance and high-performance MWCNT-based microwave absorption composite materials.

Solvent-free nanofluids were synthesized by grafting an organic oligomer shell onto the nanomaterial core, demonstrating significant liquid flow behavior at room temperature without any solvents. The synergistic effect within the solid–liquid combination found in solvent-free nanofluids positions them as potential lubricant candidates. In this study, solvent-free MXene@Fe3O4 nanofluids (MXene@Fe3O4 NFs) were successfully synthesized by loading Fe3O4 nanoparticles in situ onto MXene nanosheets, followed by covalent grafting with a silane coupling agent and a flexible long-chain polyetheramine. Its magnetic response properties were then assessed, highlighting its potential for recyclability. The tribological performance of MXene@Fe3O4 NFs as lubricants was examined under varying operating conditions with a focus on the morphology and chemical composition of the worn surface to elucidate the lubrication mechanism. The results reveal that MXene@Fe3O4 NFs, compared to MXene NFs and Fe3O4 NFs, exhibit optimal tribological performance. Additionally, even under severe loads, temperatures, or frequencies, MXene@Fe3O4 NFs show superior friction-reduction and wear-resistant properties. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fluidity endowed by the organic shell layer coupled with the synergistic tribological effects between MXene nanosheets and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. As solid–liquid lubricants with magnetic responsivity, MXene@Fe3O4 NFs present an effective strategy for high-performance lubricants synthesis.

Graphical Link up: ortho -Phenylenediamine (PDA) acts as a linker in the deposition of gold nanoparticles on the surfaces of Fe 3 O 4 microspheres. After coating with PDA, the morphology of the microspheres changes significantly to nanoparticle clusters, and this is ideal for the deposition of the gold nanoparticles. The resulting Fe 3 O 4 /Au nanocomposites exhibit enhanced magnetism so that they can be recovered and recycled easily. 1,2-Diaminobenzene, popularly known as ortho -phenylenediamine (PDA), is found to be a prototype spacer for the deposition of gold nanoparticles on the surfaces of Fe 3 O 4 microspheres. Upon carbonization with PDA, the morphology of the product changes significantly, and the resulting nanocomposites exhibit enhanced magnetism beyond the saturation value of Fe 3 O 4 . The Fe 3 O 4 /Au nanocomposites show good surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy activity with a detection limit of 10 −15 M .
