Sophoridine, which is derived from the Leguminous plant Sophora alopecuroides L., has certain pharmacological activity as a new anticancer drug. Herein, a series of novel N-substituted sophoridine derivatives was designed, synthesized and evaluated with anticancer activity. Through QSAR prediction models, it was discovered that the introduction of a benzene ring as a main pharmacophore and reintroduced into a benzene in para position on the phenyl ring in the novel sophoridine derivatives improved the anticancer activity effectively. In vitro, 28 novel compounds were evaluated for anticancer activity against four human tumor cell lines (A549, CNE-2, HepG-2, and HEC-1-B). In particular, Compound 26 exhibited remarkable inhibitory effects, with an IC 50 value of 15.6 μM against HepG-2 cells, surpassing cis-Dichlorodiamineplatinum (II). Molecular docking studies verified that the derivatives exhibit stronger binding affinity with DNA topoisomerase I compared to sophoridine. In addition, 26 demonstrated significant inhibition of DNA Topoisomerase I and could arrest cells in G 0 /G 1 phase. This study provides valuable insights into the design and synthesis of N-substituted sophoridine derivatives with anticancer activity.

Solution-processed lead halide perovskite single crystals (LHPSCs) are believed to have great potential in gamma-ray spectroscopy. However, obtaining low-defect LHPSCs from a solution at low temperatures is difficult compared to obtaining Bridgman single crystals such as CdTe and Si. Herein, noise from the intrinsic defects of LHPSCs is considered as the main problem hindering their gamma-ray detection performance. By isolating the defect-induced holes in LHPSCs via energy barriers, we show that NIN photodiodes based on three types of LHPSCs, i.e., MAPbBr3 (MA = CH3NH3), MAPbBr2.5Cl0.5, and cascade LHPSCs, have demonstrated good energy resolution in the range of 6.7–10.3% for 662 keV 137Cs gamma-ray photons. The noise for >10 mm3 devices is low, in the order of 340–860 electrons, and the electron collection efficiency reaches 23–43%. These results pave the way for obtaining low-cost, large, high energy-resolution gamma-ray detectors at room temperature (300 K).

A visual aptasensor based on the combination of graphitic carbon nitride loaded with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs/g-C 3 N 4 ) and deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I) was developed for detecting acetamiprid. The prepared PtNPs/g-C 3 N 4 exhibited excellent peroxidase (POD)-like activity, demonstrating the capacity to oxidize the colourless o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to produce the coloured product diaminophenazine (DAP) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). The DNA aptamer of acetamiprid can adsorb onto the surface of PtNPs/g-C 3 N 4 , thereby inhibiting its POD activity. The binding of acetamiprid to its aptamer results in the aptamer desorbing from the surface of PtNPs/g-C 3 N 4 and subsequent digestion by DNase I. Ascribed to the synergistic effect of these factors, the aptasensor can achieve the rapid on-site detection of acetamiprid based on the acetamiprid-induced the colour change of the solution just with the smartphone. Furthermore, due to the remarkable fluorescence signal of DAP at 570 nm, the aptasensor under fluorescence mode enables highly sensitive and quantitative detection of acetamiprid with a linear range of 1 ng/mL to 4 µg/mL and a detection limit as low as 0.31 ng/mL. The aptasensor has successfully realized the detection of acetamiprid in river water and cucumber samples, offering a novel perspective for the rapid assessment of environmental pollution and food safety risks associated with acetamiprid residues. Developing a cyanide-free gold electrodeposition system is significant for replacing the cyanide electroplating gold plating system, which is highly harmful to the environment and toxic to human health. In our study, a cyanide-free system for electrodepositing gold (Au) coatings was proposed with AuCl as the main salt and 5,5-dimethyl hydantoin (DMH) as the Au (I) complexing agent. Through theoretical calculations and electrochemical test screening, 4,6-dimethyl-2-mercaptopyrimidine (DMP) is suitable for DMH-based gold electrodeposition and was selected as an electroplating additive. The role of DMP in gold electrodeposition was further studied. In particular, the adsorption–coordination mechanism was proposed to elucidate the role of DMP, based on calculations of the Bader charge density difference for DMP adsorbed on the gold surface and the interaction between DMP and Au+. Electrochemical tests such as cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry were utilized to study the impact of varying DMP concentrations on gold electrodeposition behavior. Chronoamperometric analysis indicates that Au electrodeposition obeys a 3D diffusion-controlled progressive nucleation process, independent of DMP concentration and applied potential, while the presence of DMP markedly suppresses grain growth. The addition of DMP significantly improved the surface morphology and brightness of the gold coating, resulting in a smooth and dense layer with a golden-yellow appearance. XRD results showed that the addition of DMP reduced the grain size of the Au coating from 22.1 to 15.7 nm, with the gold coating primarily growing along the Au (111) plane. The XPS test results show that the purity of the gold plating layer is high, and there is no inclusion of additives in the coating.

Photodynamic therapy as an emerging phototheranostic approach holds great potential for antibacterial treatment, but is limited by compromised reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in an aggregate and hypoxic microenvironment. Herein, we report a molecular cationization approach to boost the ROS, especially type I ROS generation of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) photosensitizers for photodynamic treatment of drug-resistant bacteria. Such cationization reinforces the electron-accepting ability of the cationic moiety, promotes intersystem crossing (ISC), and increases electron separation and transfer processes. The resultant CTBZPyI exhibits largely enhanced ROS generation ability with predominant hydroxyl radical generation over its neutral counterpart in aggregate. Moreover, cationization also confers CTBZPyI with the bacterial binding ability and a moderate bacterial inactivation ability in the dark. Further light irradiation leads to superb antibacterial performance, which largely promotes the healing process of a MRSA-infected wound. Such a cationization strategy is expected to be a general strategy for the design of highly effective type I photosensitizers for bacterial infection treatment.

Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) is a common and chronic gastrointestinal disorder that is characterized by abdominal discomfort and occasional diarrhea. The pathogenesis of IBS-D is thought to be related to a combination of factors, including psychological stress, abnormal muscle contractions, and inflammation and disorder of the gut microbiome. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive analysis of the logical regulatory correlation among these factors. In this study, we found that stress induced hyperproduction of xanthine and altered the abundance and metabolic characteristics of Lactobacillus murinus in the gut. Lactobacillus murinus -derived spermidine suppressed the basal expression of type I interferon (IFN)-α in plasmacytoid dendritic cells by inhibiting the K63-linked polyubiquitination of TRAF3. The reduction in IFN-α unrestricted the contractile function of colonic smooth muscle cells, resulting in an increase in bowel movement. Our findings provided a theoretical basis for the pathological mechanism of, and new drug targets for, stress-exposed IBS-D.

The utilization of bifunctional ligands, specifically pyridine carboxylic acids, endowed with dual coordination sites, has been instrumental in the assembly of polymer materials. The ambidentate characteristics of these ligands play a crucial role in shaping the structure and framework of cluster-based polymers. In this study, we have synthesized a diverse array of multidimensional copper(I) alkynyl cluster-based polymers (CACPs) by employing four distinct pyridine carboxylic acids – namely, isonicotinic acid (INA), 6-isoquinolinecarboxylic acid (IQL), 4-pyridin-4-yl-benzoic acid (4-PyBA), and 3-pyridin-4-yl-benzoic acid (3-PyBA) – as linking ligands. These pyridine carboxylic acids not only serve as protective ligands but also act as pivotal linkers in constructing the cluster-based framework materials, exerting significant influence on the overall framework structures. Furthermore, the incorporation of auxiliary ligands has been shown to markedly impact the structural integrity and framework architecture of the CACPs. This study elucidates the indispensable role of pyridine carboxylic acids in the construction and stabilization of cluster-based framework materials, thereby advancing the frontier of research in metal cluster-based framework material synthesis.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a widely utilized chemotherapeutic antibiotic, increasingly threatens environmental and public health due to its persistence in marine ecosystems, bioaccumulation in organisms, and contamination of agricultural systems. In response to the urgent demand for effective DOX detection, we have developed a label-free fluorescent aptamer biosensor (FAB) that employs SYBR Green I (SG I)-mediated signal amplification. A key innovation in this design is the strategic fragmentation of the 41-mer complementary strand (CP) of the DOX aptamer into three 11-mer fragments. It significantly mitigates nonspecific SG I binding interference caused by the longer ssDNA CP, enhancing the fluorescence signal ratio (F dsDNA /F ssDNA ) from 4.6-fold to 12.6-fold. Upon DOX introduction, competitive binding between DOX, SG I, and DNA further suppresses background noise, yielding an exceptional fluorescence quenching ratio (F 0 /F) of 52.8. The optimized FAB demonstrates ultra-sensitive DOX detection, with a detection limit of 1.41 nM and a linear response between 1.41 nM and 300 nM. The recoveries of DOX spiked into pond water and drinking water samples ranged from 95.1% to 101.8%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 3.46%, demonstrating negligible matrix effects and confirming the FAB method’s robustness for environmental monitoring applications. This strategy synergistically enhances signal transduction efficiency, and strengthens detection reliability, all while maintaining operational simplicity. As a result, this FAB for DOX detection holds transformative potential, poised to revolutionize biosensor technology in the fields of food safety, environmental monitoring, and biosecurity.

Despite therapeutic advances, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. While dihydrotanshinone I (DHT) shows promising anticancer potential, its molecular mechanisms in HCC remain unexplored. Here, we unveil a novel chemokine (C-C Motif) receptor 5(CCR5)-mediated regulatory network targeted by DHT in HCC treatment. This study identifies CCR5 as a crucial survival factor in HCC, uncovers a novel CCR5-Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(NRF2) regulatory axis, and reveals a dual-targeting mechanism of DHT through direct CCR5 inhibition and Reactive oxygen species(ROS)-dependent cell death induction, validating its therapeutic efficacy by disrupting redox homeostasis. This study uncovers a novel CCR5-ROS-NRF2 signaling axis in HCC and establishes DHT as a promising therapeutic agent through its unique targeting mechanism. These findings provide new insights into HCC pathogenesis and present an innovative therapeutic strategy for HCC treatment.

Photonic synaptic transistors, designed to emulate the multispectral light detection of retinal neurons, play a pivotal role in advancing artificial vision systems capable of full-color image recognition. However, their limited sensitivity to weak and multispectral light significantly hampers their application in full-color image capture and recognition. In this work, a p-i-n structured synaptic transistor is introduced that improves weak light sensitivity and enhances synaptic performance by addressing interface issues. By integrating P3HT/LiF/InZnGdO nanofibers as p-i-n structure, the spectral response is successfully broadened from visible to near-UV region, achieving sensitivity to light intensities as low as 0.05 mW cm −2 . The device exhibits remarkable PPF characteristics across the wavelength range of 395–633 nm, with the PPF index showing a maximum increase of 84% compared to the single InZnGdO nanofiber device. Additionally, multiple neural networks are constructed with data from the synaptic transistor array driven by wavelength-tunable synaptic plasticity to validate the device's feasibility in various application scenarios. The proposed device achieved a recognition accuracy of up to 95.26% for high-precision full-color images based on the public CIFAR-10 dataset. This p-i-n structure offers a novel pathway to enhance the synaptic performance of metal oxide-based synaptic transistors, advancing the development of next-generation artificial vision.

Sodium-metal batteries (SMBs) employing transition-metal-free cathodes are of great importance for energy storage applications that require low cost and high energy density. A strategy to enhance the energy density of transition-metal-free-cathode SMBs by transforming the electrolyte from a dead mass to an energy-storage contributor is reported. NaI is used for the partial substitution of NaClO 4 in the electrolyte and thus provides the additional electrochemistry of I 3 − /I − redox couple to enhance battery performance. Graphene oxide (GO) encapsulated mesoporous (10 nm) carbon spheres (N-MCS@GO) that are nitrogen-doped (15.71 at%) are fabricated as the cathode for the I 3 − /I − redox enhanced SMBs. It is experimentally demonstrated that: the mesoporous structure increases the capacitive energy storage by providing a substantial interface that enhances the electrochemistry of I 3 − /I − redox couples; and encapsulation of the mesoporous carbon spheres with GO suppresses self-discharge and increases Coulombic efficiencies from 70.4% to 91.9%. In full-cell configuration, N-MCS@GO working with the NaI-activated electrolyte can deliver a capacity of 279.6 mAh g −1 with an energy density of 459.2 Wh kg −1 in 0.5–3 V at 200 mA g −1 . I 3 − /I − redox in the full cell maintains its activity without obvious decay after 1000 cycles at 1 A g −1 , highlighting the practical application of the I 3 − /I − redox enhanced SMBs.

The combustion of thiophene sulfides in fuel leads to the release of sulfur oxides (SO x ), which pose significant threats to both ecological systems and human health. Adsorption desulfurization has gained considerable attention from researchers due to its mild operating conditions, low production costs, and minimal impact on octane number. This study investigates the use of Cu-BTC as a platform for developing a novel adsorbent aimed at efficiently removing thiophenic compounds from fuel. Aluminum atoms were incorporated into the framework of Cu-BTC to create micro/mesoporous Al/Cu-BTC. Subsequently, the π-complexation adsorbent Al/Cu(I)-BTC, featuring Lewis acid sites, was synthesized through the in-situ reduction of Al/Cu-BTC using sodium thiosulfate. The adsorption properties of Al/Cu(I)-BTC for thiophene were assessed through both batch and breakthrough experiments. Al/Cu(I)-BTC-0.10(0.28) demonstrated exceptional adsorption performance. The static and dynamic adsorption capacities of thiophene at 500 and 200 ppm were 18.54 mg S/g and 9.49 mg S/g, respectively. Importantly, the adsorption capacity of Al/Cu(I)-BTC-0.10 (0.28) for thiophene in fuel containing 500 ppm sulfur remained at 15.45 mg S/g after six regeneration cycles. In the competitive adsorption of toluene, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for thiophene in the fuel containing 200 ppm sulfur was 7.84 mg S/g.
