Developing a strategy for efficiently synthesizing borohydrides with high capacity and favorable reversibility is significant for promoting the development of next-generation energy materials. This work proposes a novel Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@graphene (Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR) high-entropy system, integrating nanoconfinement and catalytic strategies to significantly enhance the dehydrogenation kinetics and cycling stability of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 . TiNbNiCuO medium-entropy oxide (MEO) were synthesized in situ on a graphene carbon skeleton as catalyst (TiNbNiCuO@GR). Subsequently, Mg(BH 4 ) 2 was slowly infiltrated into the TiNbNiCuO@GR framework, which served as a carrier for nanoconfined Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , forming the Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR. It is demonstrated that the close contact between nanoconfined TiNbNiCuO MEO and Mg(BH 4 ) 2 creates abundant active sites, which facilitates electron transfer to improve dehydrogenation kinetics (dehydrogenation onset temperature at 63.5 °C) with a high capacity of 9.8 wt% H 2 . Notably, high-entropy effect and nanoconfinement boost the structure stability of TiNbNiCuO and prevent the agglomeration of Mg(BH 4 ) 2 , respectively, thereby jointly achieving an enhanced reversibility of the dehydrogenation kinetics, enabling a capacity retention of 81.5% after 10 cycles. The synergistic nanoconfinement-catalytic effect within the Mg(BH 4 ) 2 –TiNbNiCuO@GR offers new insights into the efficient dehydrogenation pathway of Mg-based borohydride systems.

A stable composite coating with good superhydrophobicity and corrosion resistance was fabricated on the magnesium alloy surface. The composite coating consists of a rough nickel structure prepared by chemical deposition of nickel‑phosphorus alloy and electrodeposition of nano-cone-shaped pure nickel film sequentially, and a nanoparticles-doped superhydrophobic polysiloxane film. The successful construction of the composite coating was ascertained by characterizing the chemical structure , elements, bonding information, and surface morphology using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), X-ray electron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), etc. The wear resistance and wettability tests show that the pristine composite coatings modified with either SiO 2 (ELNi/ECNi/Ms) or ZnO (ELNi/ECNi/Mz) nanoparticles had good superhydrophobicity. However, the ELNi/ECNi/Ms. coating was more stable than the latter in wettability after abrasion. The ELNi/ECNi/Ms. composite coating with the addition of 2.0 wt% SiO 2 nanoparticle formed an optimal superhydrophobic surface showing the highest water contact angle (165.3° ± 1.5°) and the lowest water sliding angle (2.2° ± 0.7°). Electrochemical tests indicate that, in contrast to naked magnesium alloy , the low-frequency impedance modulus (| Z | ƒ =0.01 Hz ) and the corrosion current density of the ELNi/ECNi/Ms. composite coatings were respectively increased and decreased by nearly four orders of magnitude, demonstrating the excellent corrosion protection .

Magnesium alloys are widely used in aerospace and automobile industries because of their lightweight and high strength properties . However, the occurrence of surface corrosion limits their application. Among the protection methods of magnesium alloys, the sol-gel method has received a growing attention recently because of its green economy, high efficiency, and stability. However, the sol-gel method cannot provide corrosion protection for an extended duration in saline solutions. In this study, a novel sol-gel coating via catechol/lysine (CA/Lys) polymerization has been prepared via a facile method and systematically investigated. The CA/Lys co-deposition process was studied by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. Corrosion performances of the coating were evaluated in aqueous 0.1 M NaCl by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and hydrogen evolution measurements. The experimental results showed that the CA/Lys-modified sol-gel coating provided corrosion protection for up to 18 days, while the unmodified sol-gel coating failed after only 3 days of testing. The polymerized CA/Lys was adsorbed by and then diffused into the sol-gel coating by filling in the macropores or nanopores and the nano-SiO 2 cross-linked network, greatly improving the compactness of the coating. In addition, albeit the thickness of CA/Lys modified coating being only 9 µm, this material was able to provide a long-lasting corrosion protection. This study introduced a novel approach to greatly improve the corrosion resistance of the sol-gel film for magnesium alloys by adopting phenolamines to modify the sol-gel for anticorrosion. This approach can provide a new strategy for Mg alloy corrosion protection.

As the most widely used disposable paper-based diagnostic tool in the world, immunochromatographic test strips (ICTS) have occupied more and more positions in the field of rapid diagnosis due to their ease of operation and affordability. Therefore, the development of an easily prepared, sensitive, and accurate signal reporter is of great significance for the detection of some low-abundance biomarkers in clinical diagnosis. Herein, Mg/Fe layered double hydroxide nanoflowers (MF NFs) were selected as adsorption templates and sulfhydryl-functionalized, followed by one-step loading of hydrophobic CdSe/ZnS quantum dots in the organic phase via a metal-thiol covalent bond. After coating the reporter with branched polyethyleneimine (PEI), a novel ICTS fluorescent reporter was prepared. The modification of PEI not only improved the hydrophilicity of MF@CdSe/ZnS NFs but also introduced amino functional groups on the surface of the reporter for subsequent conjugation with antibodies. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption, X-ray diffraction, fluorescence spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the composition of MF@CdSe/ZnS NFs. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the detection range of MF@CdSe/ZnS@PEI-ICTS for the model analyte HCG was 0.1–500 mIU/mL, and the limit of detection (LOD) reached was 0.1 mIU/mL. The potential for practical application was validated by the detection of HCG in spiked healthy human serum, showing overall recoveries between 90.48 and 116.1% with coefficients of variation that ranged from 3.66 to 12.91%.

Mg 2 SiNi 3, is a topologically densely packed intermetallic compound (TCP-IMC) and an excellent diffusion barrier material between nickel and Mg 2 Si-based thermoelectric material. However, even a little migration of the Mg atom from Mg 2 Si to Mg 2 SiNi 3 under the action of a driven force promotes the formation of an Mg deficiency region on the Mg 2 Si side, which destroys the balance of point defects and leads to performance deterioration. In this work, by adjusting the chemical potential of Mg across the Mg x Si 15 Ni 50 /Mg 2 Si ( x = 36, 50, 130) interface, the migration of Mg in thermoelectric material has been suppressed effectively. The results indicate that the contact performance and service stability of the Mg 130 Si 15 Ni 50 /Mg 2 Si interface has been improved by 50% compared to that of Mg 36 Si 15 Ni 50 /Mg 2 Si, which remains quite well after annealing at 400 ℃ for 480 h. TCP-IMC barrier with proper composition is a promising design for the manufacture of TEG interface to ensure its consistency in service especially under a large temperature difference.

In view of the complex problems for the ionic liquids (ILs) recovery with the system containing ILs and TBP, this work proposed a NaNTf 2 -based synergistic extraction system, NaNTf 2 + TBP, which could realize the effective reutilization of the extraction system without reducing the lithium separation ability. Under the optimal extraction parameters, the extraction efficiency of Li + exceeded 98%, while that of Mg 2+ was only ~1%. The results of mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and slope analysis showed that two TBP molecules involved in the extraction process of Li + , and the Li + extraction mechanism obeyed the cation-exchange process. According to the red shift of the FT − IR peak of P O in TBP and the chemical shift changes of P in 31 P NMR, the interaction strength between TBP and different metal ion followed the sequence: E TBP−H >> E TBP−Li > E TBP−Mg > E TBP−K > E TBP−Na . It was also found that after a three−stage countercurrent extraction process, [Li + ] org was 0.42 g L −1 , and the total recovery efficiency of Li + was about 98%. The saturated extraction capacity for Li + could be as high as 5.4 g L −1 , and Li + could be stripped with the aqueous solution containing 0.2 mol L -1 HCl. In addition, the extraction efficiency of Li + was almost not attenuated after 6 extraction cycles. This new extraction system shows a certain industrial application prospect for Li + separation from the salt lake bine with high Mg/Li ratio.

In this work, low-threshold resonant lasing emission was investigated in undoped and Mg-doped GaN thin films on interfacial designed sapphire substrates. The scattering cross-section of the periodic resonant structure was evaluated by using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and was found to be beneficial for reducing the threshold and enhancing the resonant lasing emission within the periodic structures. Compared with undoped and Si-doped GaN thin films, p-type Mg-doped GaN thin films demonstrated a better lasing emission performance. The lasing energy level system and defect densities played vital roles in the lasing emission. This work is beneficial to the realization of multifunctional applications in optoelectronic devices. Keywords:gallium nitride;lasing action;resonant structure;patterned sapphire substrate

Exploration of short-wave ultraviolet beryllium-free Sr2Be2B2O7-type borates is of great significance to the development of short-wave ultraviolet lasers. As a structural analogy to BeO4, the ZnO4 unit has been demonstrated as a facile building unit for the design of beryllium-free borates with balanced overall performance. Nevertheless, despite the discovery of numerous zincoborates, no Sr2Be2B2O7-type zincoborates with characteristic bilayer structures constituted by ZnO4 and BO3 units have been found, highlighting the great challenge in the design and syntheses of Sr2Be2B2O7-type zincoborates. Herein, two new beryllium-free Sr2Be2B2O7-type zincoborates, namely, Na3AEZn2B3O9 (AE = Mg and Ca), were rationally obtained by a chemical cosubstitution design strategy. With the cosubstitution of Sr2+, Be2+ and out-of-plane bridging O2− of {Sr[Be2(BO3)2O]}∞2− bilayers of Sr2Be2B2O7, Na3AEZn2B3O9 (AE = Mg and Ca) featuring a new Sr2Be2B2O7-type bilayer structure of {Na3[Zn2(BO3)2(BO3)]}∞2− were successfully isolated, indicating the feasibility of chemical cosubstitution for the design of Sr2Be2B2O7-type zincoborates. In particular, Na3CaZn2B3O9 exhibits a wide band gap of 4.43 eV, a moderate birefringence of 0.045@1064 nm and a high melting point of 843 °C, being favorable to practical applications.

Mg alloys are considered the most promising engineering materials because of their unique properties. However, the uncontrolled corrosion rate of these alloys limits their applications. Therefore, in this study, a micro-arc oxidation layer was used as a transition layer to “directly” grow a zinc-based metal-organic framework (MOF) composite coating on the surface of a Mg alloy (AZ91D). Herein, the two zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) coatings with different morphologies were separately prepared by homologous metal oxide induction and a one-step in-situ growth method. The superhydrophobic composite coating showed strong hydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties, which could prevent the penetration of water and corrosive ions (Cl − ) into the surface of AZ91D. Electrochemical tests demonstrated that the super-hydrophobic composite coatings greatly enhanced the corrosion resistance of AZ91D, and the corrosion current density decreased from 10 −5 to 10 −9 A/cm 2 . These results indicate that the ZIF-8 coatings are beneficial for improving the hydrophobicity and enhancing the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys. Therefore, MOF composite coatings provide a new strategy that can be used to prepare multifunctional anticorrosion coatings on metal substrates.

MOF/polymer hybrid membranes integrate the surface activity of MOFs and the advantages of PVDF membranes, and can be used as adsorption membranes in the efficient removal of target organics. In this work, a new hybrid membrane of ZIF-67/PVDF with varying ZIF-67 dosages has been fabricated through a facile mechanical blending followed by a lyotropic phase transition. Methods including field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR analyses and surface hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity measurements are applied to characterize the structure, physicochemical properties and membrane performances. Two synthetic triarylmethane dyes, cationic malachite green (MG) and anionic fuchsin acid (FA), are chosen as the main adsorption targets to evaluate the adsorption capacities of the resulting ZIF-67/PVDF hybrid membranes. Interestingly, all of the ZIF-67/PVDF hybrid membranes exhibit distinctly favorable efficiencies and selectivities toward MG and FA compared to pristine PVDF, which proves the positive roles of ZIF-67 in the adsorption ability of the hybrid membranes. The adsorption conditions are optimized and the adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics are analysed to study the adsorption mechanism. The reusability and the structural stability of the hybrid membranes undergoing cyclic adsorption processes are also discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that good adsorption capacities for MG and FA for these MOF/PVDF membranes have been reported. This work highlights the prospective applications of MOF/PVDF hybrid membranes in the rapid and effective removal of target organics in the treatment of waste water.

Although Mg–Li hybrid batteries are proposed as an alternative to Mg-batteries, the lack of dual-ion compatible cathodes are limiting their practical application. Herein, we report a high-rate and ultralong-life Mg–Li hybrid battery based on a dual-phase TiO 2 cathode. Highly pseudocapacitive hierarchical two-dimensional TiO 2 consists of anatase (60%) and bronze (40%) nanocrystallites forming interfaces due to crystal structure mismatch. This dual-phase hierarchical cathode exhibits excellent pseudocapacitance (up to 92%), specific capacities (235 mAh/g @ 25 mA/g), rate performance (120 mAh/g @ 1A/g) cycling stability (~87% after 3000 cycles @ 1A/g) and coulombic efficiency (~100%). These results are vastly superior to the previously reported values for TiO 2 based Mg–Li hybrid battery cathodes. Only minimal structural changes are observed during the charge-discharge of two-dimensional TiO 2 electrode. Outstanding electrochemical performance of dual-phase TiO 2 nanosheet cathode is attributed to the superior pseudocapacitive Mg/Li-ion diffusion through nanointerfaces between anatase and bronze crystallites . While other structural features such as 2D-morphology, ultrathin nature, mesoporosity, and high surface area act as secondary factors. The demonstrated approach for efficient pseudocapacitive Mg/Li-ion intercalation enhanced by nanointerfaces can be further exploited in the development of other high performance electrodes for advanced Mg–Li hybrid batteries.

The decommissioning of uranium mill tailings (UMTs) is usually accompanied by uranium (U) contamination in soil, which poses a serious threat to human health and ecological safety. In this study, a novel phosphorus-modified bamboo biochar (PBC) cross-linked Mg–Al layered double-hydroxide (LDH) composite (“PBC@LDH”) was successfully prepared by phosphate pre-impregnation and a hydrothermal method with Mg–Al LDH. Physicochemical analysis revealed that phosphorus-containing functional groups and Mg–Al LDH were grafted onto the pristine biochar (BC) matrix. Laboratory-scale incubation and column leaching experiments were performed on the prepared BC, PBC, and PBC@LDH. The results showed that, at a dosage of 10%, the PBC@LDH composite had a commendable ability to immobilize U in soil. After 40 days of incubation with the stabilizer, the more mobile U was converted into immobilized species. Furthermore, during a column leaching experiment with simulated acid rain, the cumulative loss and leaching efficiency of U were remarkably reduced by PBC@LDH treatment compared with the control, reaching 53% and 54%, respectively. Surface complexation, co-precipitation, and reduction described the adsorption and immobilization mechanisms. In conclusion, this research demonstrates that the PBC@LDH composite offers a potentially effective amendment for the remediation of U contaminated soil.
