The treatment of critical-size bone defect, particularly those with irregular shapes, presents a significant clinical challenge. Chitosan hydrogels, owing to their degradability, excellent biocompatibility and injectability, represent a promising carrier platform for bone tissue engineering (BTE). Bioavailable Mg 2+ serves as a pivotal element in bone regeneration, promoting osteogenesis and angiogenesis to accelerate bone tissue repair. Furthermore, Gallic acid (GA) exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, modulating the immune microenvironment to create favorable conditions for bone regeneration. To control its release behavior, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) may be constructed by leveraging the coordination interactions between Mg 2+ and GA. This study constructed an injectable thermo-responsive hydrogel using chitosan and sericin as the matrix, functionalizing it by embedding Mg-GA MOF at varying loading capacities. This material system is termed CS-MOF. In vitro experiments confirmed that the Mg-GA MOF-functionalized hydrogel exerts multiple biological functions: promoting osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs), inducing angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and suppressing the inflammatory response of LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. Using a rat critical-sized cranial defect model, we demonstrated that the 0.01% wt/vol Mg-GA MOF-functionalized hydrogel significantly enhanced new bone formation and angiogenesis compared to the MOF-free and 0.02% wt/vol MOF-loaded hydrogels. Collectively, this thermo-responsive Mg-GA MOF-functionalized hydrogel represents a promising candidate for clinical translation in bone defect repair.

Green synthesis of defective Zr‑MOFs employed mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as a modulator. • MAA dosage regulated framework defects, pore structure, and surface properties. • The optimized DPM-2 achieves a high adsorption capacity of 356.4 mg·g⁻¹ with equilibrium reached within 60 min. • Electrostatic, chemical, and hydrogen‑bonding interactions collectively enhanced p-ASA adsorption. Defect modulation is an effective strategy for optimizing the pore architecture and active-site accessibility of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, a series of defective Zr-MOFs was synthesized in an aqueous medium using mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as an acid modulator and is denoted as DPM-X (DUT-67(PZDC)-MAA-X, where X denotes the volume of MAA added). Structural characterization revealed that the MAA dosage played a key role in regulating framework defect formation, thereby altering the pore characteristics and surface chemical properties of the synthesized MOFs. Benefiting from abundant adsorption sites and a special pore structure, DPM-2 exhibited a high uptake of 356.4 mg·g −1 for p-ASA and reached equilibrium within only 60 min. Moreover, the material showed remarkable resistance to interference from coexisting ions and retained excellent regeneration performance during repeated use. The adsorption mechanism involves the synergistic action of electrostatic attraction, chemical bonding, and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The proposed green defect-engineering strategy provides an effective route to regulate the structural properties of Zr-MOFs, offering a practical approach to tailoring pore structure, surface chemistry, and adsorption performance. Introduction The efficacy of immunotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is primarily challenged by its inherent low immunogenicity, which is further undermined by the immunosuppressive activity of tumor-associated polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs). The hypoxic microenvironment renders PMN-MDSCs susceptible to ferroptosis and exacerbates immunosuppression. Objectives This study aimed to design a multifunctional nanoplatform comprising Cu/Mn bimetallic metal-organic frameworks decorated with gold (Au) nanozymes (CMAP MOFs) that simultaneously enhances tumor immunogenicity and alleviates immunosuppression. Methods The characteristics of the nanosystem were evaluated using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. In vitro experiments employed Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry to investigate the mechanisms of enhanced immunogenicity and alleviated immunosuppression in 4T1 cells. In vivo experiments evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of the nanosystem in BALB/c mice bearing implanted 4T1 tumors. Results Within tumor cells, the CMAP MOFs undergo GSH-responsive disintegration. The released Cu/Mn ions catalyze Fenton-like reaction to induce tumor cell ferroptosis and mitochondrial DNA damage, activating cGAS-STING pathway, and facilitating CD8 + T cells recruitment. Simultaneously, released Au nanozymes catalyze H 2 O 2 conversion to O 2 , alleviating hypoxia and preventing PMN-MDSCs ferroptosis and associated immunosuppression. While the immunogenicity-enhancing CMP MOFs group increased CD8⁺ T cell infiltration from 21% to 28.3% with 74.1% tumor growth inhibition, the combined immunogenicity enhancement and immunosuppression relief CMAP MOFs group further boosted CD8⁺ T cell infiltration to 32.4% with superior tumor growth inhibition of 81.3%, with IFN-γ and GZMB expression elevated by 2.2-fold and 2.0-fold (CMP MOFs) and 3.4-fold and 3.0-fold (CMAP MOFs) compared to control. This strategy offers a promising approach for enhancing immunotherapy in TNBC patients. Graphical The alternative text for this image may have been generated using AI.

Magnesium alloys are used in ultrahigh voltage (UHV) insulator connections due to their high specific strength, vibration damping, and shielding properties. However, their low electrochemical potential (−2.37 V) leads to porous oxide films in tidal flats, humid conditions, and salt spray environments, causing pitting and cracking. Subsequently, microorganisms attach to the surface, secreting metabolites that acidify the area in synergy with Cl − , forming biofilm-corrosion coupling and accelerating failure. To address this, we developed a porous Cu-MOFs/CuS composite coating on AZ31B magnesium alloy using a hydrothermal method (160°C, 10 h) and stearic acid modification, creating a superhydrophobic surface (contact angle of 162°). After 50 cycles of simulated sandpaper abrasion, the contact angle remained above 150°, demonstrating superior mechanical stability compared to pure Cu-MOFs coatings. Immersion tests in acids, bases, and salts, as well as dynamic potentiodynamic polarization curves, proved that the Cu-MOFs/CuS composite coating has superior acid–base-salt stability and corrosion resistance compared to a pure MOFs coating. Moreover, the Cu 2+ released from the coating show high inhibitory and antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, significantly reducing the risk of microbially induced corrosion. This provides an innovative solution for the long-term reliable service of magnesium alloys in UHV transmission and transformation equipment.

The global spread of harmful algal blooms (HABs) has become a serious environmental problem, which urgently needs innovative control methods. This study explored the suppression efficiency of copper- and zinc-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on growth and toxin production of the toxigenic microalga Alexandrium minutum . The physical characterization data confirmed that Cu-MOF has a higher surface area (1207 m 2 g −1 ) than Zn-MOF (56.9 m 2 g −1 ). Both materials could inhibit the growth of A. minutum with a concentration-dependent pattern. Comparatively, the Cu-MOF resulted in notable inhibition even at low concentrations. However, Zn-MOF stimulated growth at low concentrations but showed an inhibitory effect at higher doses (≥5 mg L −1 ). Both MOFs caused oxidative stress, alteration of cell membrane, and photosynthesis disruption. Additionally, transcriptomic findings revealed a major change of nutrient metabolism. Genes related to phosphorus uptake were mostly up-regulated, while those for nitrogen assimilation were largely down-regulated. The decrease in medium phosphorus and change in nitrogen levels also reflected this transcriptional response and demonstrated the imbalance in nutrient ratio. Furthermore, both MOFs, specifically at elevated concentrations, reduced overall production of paralytic shellfish toxins (GTX1, GTX4, GTX2 and GTX3). This study showed the potential utility of MOFs as targeted porous materials for HAB mitigation.

A Fe-MOFs/rGO/Au ternary composite to construct a competitive electrochemical immunosensor for Hg 2+ . • The porous conductive hybrid accelerates mass transfer and provides abundant antibody binding sites. • The established immunosensor exhibits two linear range of 0.05–200 and 250–2500 nM of Hg 2+ . • The established immunosensor displays the specific selectivity and a low LOD of 0.075 nM. • The sensing platform shows the promising potential for environmental heavy metal monitoring. The development of ultrasensitive Hg 2+ detection in water environments is crucial owing to its severe toxicity to ecosystems and human health. In this work, a label-free competitive electrochemical immunosensor was fabricated for the detection of mercury ions (Hg 2+ ) based on a ternary iron-based metal organic framework/reduced graphene oxide/gold nanoparticles (Fe-MOFs/rGO/AuNPs) nanocomposite. The Fe-MOFs/rGO hybrid composite was synthesized via a hydrothermal strategy, which significantly enhanced the conductivity and effective surface area of the electrode interface. Furthermore, L-cysteine-mediated AuNPs were covalently conjugated to the Fe-MOFs/rGO matrix, which not only offered a stable substrate for the immobilization of anti-Hg 2+ antibodies but also accelerated interfacial electron transport. By monitoring the current response through differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), the immunosensor exhibited the two linear ranges of 0.05–200 nM and 250–2500 nM toward Hg 2+ , accompanied by an ultralow detection limit (LOD) of 0.075 nM. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the ternary nanocomposite as well as the outstanding specificity of antibody-antigen immunorecognition, the developed immunosensor meets the requirement for the safety monitoring Hg 2+ in complex environmental water samples. The PVDF-based polymer electrolyte has the disadvantages of low ionic conductivity and low Li + migration number at room temperature, which hinders its application in lithium-ion batteries. Herein, polymer composite electrolytes were constructed utilizing three polymorphic Ce-MOFs as functional fillers to enhance its performance. The homogeneously dispersed Ce-MOF fillers restricted the reorganization of PVDF-HFP chains, thereby led to the change in crystallization and aggregation state of the polymer. Moreover, their porous structure and active sites also promoted the Lewis acid–base interactions with the polymer and TFSI − , promoting ion dissociation. Temperature-induced phase variation produced distinct porous crystalline structures formed the tetragonal-phase MOF-76-Ce exhibiting excellent properties with a room-temperature ionic conductivity of 7.89×10⁻ 4 S cm⁻ 1 and a Li + transference number of 0.79. The full cell assembled with this electrolyte and high-energy-density polyanionic LiMn 0.6 Fe 0.4 PO 4 cathodes demonstrated good cycling stability. It could reach discharge capacity of 147 mAh g⁻ 1 at 0.2 C and a capacity retention of 91% after 200 cycles at 0.5 C under a high cutoff voltage of 4.5 V. This work offers an effective filler strategy for developing high-performance quasi-solid-state polymer electrolytes and highlights the crucial role of metal–organic framework topology in advancing safe and durable lithium metal batteries. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely developed for the treatment of malignant tumors due to their high porosity, ease of functionalization, and smart-responsive degradation. Herein, a core–shell nanocomposite PAZDH (HA@DOX-PDA@Bio-Ag/ZIF-8) based on polydopamine (PDA)-coated green-reduced silver nanoparticles (Bio-Ag NPs) loaded on zeolite imidazolium framework-8 (ZIF-8) is designed, which can trigger near-infrared light (NIR)-enhanced chemodynamic reaction and chemotherapy for effective tumor treatment. Due to the targeting of the shell to the CD44 receptor, which is overexpressed in tumor cells, PAZDH NPs can actively aggregate at the tumor site. Subsequently, based on the pH-sensitive degradation of the core, this nanocomposite can release Bio-Ag NPs and doxorubicin (DOX) in a smart-responsive manner. Moreover, Bio-Ag NPs prepared by the green-reduced method using plant extract have a particle size of 40 nm, which can easily enter the tumor cells by endocytosis and induce apoptosis by catalyzing the production of cytotoxic ·OH from H2O2 enriched in the TME. Importantly, the high temperature generated by PTT can promote the release of DOX and accelerate the generation rate of ·OH, enabling photothermal-enhanced chemo–chemodynamic therapy. The PAZDH NPs can efficiently induce tumor ablation and inhibit solid tumors by up to 91.72%. In conclusion, this study provides a promising strategy for the development of smart-responsive MOFs in the field of tumor treatment.

Wound infection represents a prevalent and pressing clinical challenge, resulting in delayed wound healing and severe complications. In this study, a novel wound dressing was fabricated through a combination of electrospinning and acid etching techniques. First, nanofibers were fabricated by blending electrospun polyacrylonitrile/Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PAN/PVP) polymers with copper-based metal organic frameworks (Cu-MOFs). Subsequently, tannic acid was employed to etch the surface sites of Cu-MOFs on the fibers. The obtained nanofibers exhibited a typical porous structure, superior water absorption and gas permeability, with the average water vapor transmission rate was 2170.6 gm -2 day -1 . Additionally, the release behavior of copper ions can be modulated by altering the mass ratio of PVP to PAN, the amount of Cu-MOFs and the use of tannic acid. In vitro antibacterial assays revealed that the antibacterial efficacy of nanofibers increased with the addition of Cu-MOFs, after 48 hours of treatment, the inhibition rates of the nanofibers against E. coli and S. aureus reached over 79.5 % and 90 %, respectively. In vivo experiments demonstrated that these nanofibers alleviated wound inflammation and promoted collagen and angiogenesis, exhibition superior anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects. The biosafety tests indicated that the nanofibers loaded with 1 % and 3 % Cu-MOFs exhibited good biocompatibility, while the nanofibers loaded with 5 % Cu-MOFs showed slight cytotoxicity. This study provides a novel strategy for the design and fabrication of advanced wound dressings in biomedical applications.

In this study, the newly synthesized ScAg-MOFs was used as a like-peroxidase. Based on the positive correlation between uric acid concentration and the (3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine) TMB oxidation inhibition rate, a partial least squares (PLS) model was developed to predict the oxidative inhibition of TMB. The results indicate that the combination of standard normal variable transform and continuous wavelet transform (SNV + CWT) with competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) yielded a root-mean-square error of cross-validation (RMSECV) of 8.6460%, and a root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 7.9731%. The correlation coefficient for the calibration set (R_CV) was 0.9430, for the validation set (R) it was 0.9459, and the prediction deviation ratio (RPD) was 3.0268. This suggests that the model is quite accurate, and it demonstrates the feasibility of this method for rapid uric acid detection.

The effective and deep removal of unreactive sulfides to achieve ultra-low-sulfur or sulfur-free oils has recently attracted extensive attention. In this work, a series of UiO-66 based catalysts have been prepared facilely for the effective removal of unreactive sulfides. Here, the incorporation of nitro functional groups into UiO-66, along with the construction of defects, results in remarkable sulfur removal for dibenzothiophene (DBT), achieving oil with sulfur content of less than 1 ppm. The successful construction of the designed catalysts was verified through a series of characterization studies. The exposed unsaturated metal sites help provide significantly more active reaction sites. In addition, the incorporated nitro group, with its electron-withdrawing property, would help increase the Lewis acidity of the catalytic metal sites. Thus, the catalytic oxidative capability of the designed UiO-66-based catalysts would be significantly increased. The enhanced catalytic oxidative performance helps ensure acceptable sulfur removal for oils with much higher sulfur concentrations. Additionally, the catalyst developed in this work can also be used to remove the derivatives of DBT with even lower reactivity. The relatively mild reaction conditions, combined with the exceptional sulfur removal, demonstrate the practicality of this reaction system.

The development of iron-based heterogeneous Fenton catalysts is often hindered by challenges including slow Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ cycling, limited interfacial electron transfer kinetics, and inefficient mass transport, leading to suboptimal catalytic efficiency. In this work, three distinct assembly strategies—hydrogen bonding, electrostatic self-assembly, and solvothermal methods—were utilized to fabricate MCuFe-MOF/PMMA@MXene (denoted as MPM) microspheres for the photo-Fenton degradation of methylene blue (MB). Notably, the microspheres fabricated via electrostatic self-assembly (designated E -MPM) exhibited a unique three-dimensional (3D) microsphere architecture. This structure significantly enhanced the adsorption capacity for pollutants and improved mass transfer, concurrently broadening the visible-light absorption range. The well-defined interfaces within the E -MPM microspheres facilitate the formation of multiple heterojunctions with favorable band alignment, which effectively promotes the generation and separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Consequently, highly reactive free radicals are efficiently generated through the photo-Fenton process, the E -MPM microspheres demonstrated high catalytic activity, achieving a remarkable MB degradation efficiency of approximately 91.9% within 60 min at 4 g/L MB under visible-light irradiation. This study not only provides a fundamental insight into the design of bimetallic MOF/MXene-derived heterogeneous photocatalysts, but also broadens the application scope of MXene-based materials in advanced water treatment technologies.
