In oxygen-redox cathodes, voltage hysteresis largely arises as oxygen redox generally proceeds with electrochemical reactions followed by chemical reactions that normally drive asymmetrical charge and discharge pathways. Although different superstructures, such as ribbon and mesh units, were intentionally introduced to mitigate voltage hysteresis, those structures remain as model compounds that can hardly be implemented in real-world applications. Here, inspired by the classical Li-rich layered Li[Li 0.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 ]O 2 , we design a new O3-type sodium layered oxide, NaLi 0.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 , that delivers 205.2 mA h g − 1 with reversible oxygen redox but shows mitigated voltage hysteresis and suppressed voltage decay. Atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy reveals that deep desodiation reconstruts an addtional inverse-honeycomb superstructure in the alkali layer, which is retained after discharge and extended cycling. Li analogues prepared via (electro)chemical ion-exchange reactions from pristine and charged-state Na precursors further reveal the critical role of this inverse-honeycomb ordering in suppressing voltage hysteresis. Thermal relaxation experiments combined with spectroscopic studies show that inverse-honeycomb ordering suppresses Ni-centered ligand-to-metal charge transfer associated with chemical relaxation, allowing the reduction process to proceed from a nonequilibrium state, thereby mitigating voltage hysteresis. Our study provides practical significance in this newly designed Na compound NaLi 0.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 by taking advantage of in situ formation of inverse-honeycomb ordering. Graphical An O3-type NaLi 0.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 cathode undergoes electrochemically induced reconstruction of inverse-honeycomb ordering in the alkali layer during deep desodiation. The reconstructed superstructure suppresses Ni-centered ligand-to-metal charge transfer, preserves more high-voltage cationic-redox contribution, and reduces delayed low-voltage oxygen reduction, thereby mitigating voltage hysteresis and voltage decay while maintaining high reversible capacity.

O3-type layered oxides are considered as potential materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) because of their cost competitiveness and high reversible capacity. Whereas, their commercialization is limited by sluggish Na + kinetics, irreversible phase transition, and poor air stability. Herein, to address these challenges, we propose zirconium (Zr) doping to regulate the structure of O3-NaCu 0.2 Fe 0.3 Mn 0.5 O 2 (CFM). With the incorporation of Zr into CFM, the diffusion channel is expanded, and the detrimental phase transition is suppressed, thereby the Na + diffusion kinetics is facilitated and the layered structure is stabilized. The optimized NaCu 0.15 Fe 0.3 Mn 0.5 Zr 0.05 O 2 (CFM-Zr0.05) cathode delivers a high capacity of 121.5 mAh g −1 and a favorable capacity retention of 70% after 400 cycles at 1C. When paired with hard carbon anode, the full cell maintains 84.8% of its initial capacity after 100 cycles at 0.5C, demonstrating promising practical application potential. Furthermore, Zr-doped CFM cathode demonstrates enhanced air stability by mitigating Na + /H + exchange. This work presents a rational design strategy to achieve high-performance O3-type layered oxide cathodes, benefitting the development of SIBs for large-scale energy storage.

KNN nanoparticles act as nucleating agents in PVDF films, promoting β-phase formation and enhancing piezoelectric properties. • The piezoelectric field generated by KNN/PVDF film promotes fibroblast migration. • Elevated TGF-β and VEGF expression accelerates angiogenesis and wound healing. Electrical stimulation that mimics endogenous electric fields represents a promising therapeutic strategy for wound healing. In this study, a lead-free piezoelectric composite film was fabricated by incorporating (K,Na)NbO 3 (KNN) ceramics into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix via tape casting. The introduction of KNN fillers significantly enhanced the β-phase content and piezoelectric output of PVDF. Under ultrasound irradiation, the resulting KNN/PVDF film effectively promoted fibroblast proliferation and migration in vitro, achieving a 54.84% migration rate within 24 h and upregulating key wound-repair genes, including TGF-β and VEGF. In vivo, the composite film markedly accelerated the healing of full-thickness skin defects in rats, promoted neovascularization, and achieved approximately 95% wound closure by day 9. These results demonstrate that the KNN/PVDF composite film provides an effective wireless platform for biomimetic electrical stimulation in tissue regeneration.

Ultrathin g-C 3 N 5 with Na-K sites, N-vacancies, and –C N was synthesized. • CN-Na-K yields 4739.89 μmol‧g −1 ‧h −1 H 2 O 2 under aeration-free conditions. • –C N and N-vacancies synergistically boost π-electron delocalization. • Na-K dual sites drive both ORR and WOR pathways for H 2 O 2 production. Photocatalytic solar-driven H 2 O 2 synthesis offers a sustainable energy route but is often limited by the need for supplemental oxygen. To overcome barriers, a distinctive ultra-thin g-C 3 N 5 nanosheet with cyano groups (–C N), N-vacancies, and Na-K dual active sites (CN-Na-K) was structured for H 2 O 2 production in natural-oxygen-conditions (aeration-free). The introduction of the –C N function as an electron pump to construct an internal electric field (IEF) promoted charge separation. Simultaneously, N-vacancies broke the structural localization to enhance π-electron delocalization, creating high-speed channels for carrier transport. Crucially, the Na-K dual sites acted as catalytic centers that enabled the water oxidation reaction (WOR) by driving the formation of key intermediates (*O 2 , *OOH, and *OH), where Na + acted as a powerful electron sink, and K + promoted excited-state electrons and stabilized holes. Therefore, the –C N, N-vacancies, and Na-K dual active sites synergistically promoted an enhanced H 2 O 2 production rate of CN-Na-K (1260.03 μmol‧g −1 ‧h −1 in LED lamp and 4739.89 μmol‧g −1 ‧h −1 in Xe lamp) under aeration-free conditions. Besides, characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed the CN-Na-K system produced H 2 O 2 via a dual-channel pathway for the oxygen reduction (ORR) and WOR. This work provides a systemic design for electronic delocalization and dual active site engineering to achieve efficient aeration-free H 2 O 2 production. Rechargeable sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN)-based room temperature sodium-sulfur (RT Na/SPAN) batteries, which can operate stably at room temperature, are highly sought after due to the high coulombic efficiency, excellent reversibility and cycling stability. However, the practical battery performance of the Na/SPAN system is fundamentally limited by sluggish interfacial kinetics, particularly hindered Na + transport and electron transfer at electrode–electrolyte interface. Herein, this study addresses these challenges through a low-temperature (180 ℃) polymeric carbon encapsulation strategy, which strategically constructs a polyfuran-rich amorphous carbon(AC) coating on SPAN microparticles (SPAN@AC). This synergistic mechanism operates through conjugated backbones that facilitate efficient electron transport, while the dual role of oxygen which providing strong Na + coordination and weak bonding interactions, thereby simultaneously accelerating charge transfer and ion-desolvation kinetics at the interface. These strategies effectively mitigate interfacial kinetic limitations in sodium-ion batteries, resulting in improved cycling durability and rate capability during practical battery testing. Hence, the SPAN@AC electrode delivered a reversible capacity of 400 mAh g −1 composite at 0.2 A g −1 over 500 cycles and 248 mAh g −1 composite at 1 A g −1 over 750 cycles. This study develops a new approach to enhance SPAN’s electrochemical properties, thereby establishing its viability as a high-performance cathode material for practical room temperature sodium-sulfur battery applications.

The unstable anionic redox reactions (ARRs) in high-energy Na layered cathode materials result in sluggish ARR kinetics and inadequate structural stability, ultimately leading to rapid capacity degradation and unfavorable rate capabilities. In this work, a high entropy layered oxide P2-Na0.66Mn0.6Li0.1Ti0.1(MgAlCuZn)0.05O2 (NMLTMACZ), was synthesized using a solid-state reaction method to achieve a stable phase structure. Such a novel NMLTMACZ cathode with O redox exhibits an exceptionally high initial reversible capacity of 245.56 mA h g−1 at 0.05C, with an unsatisfactory capacity retention of ∼58.56% after 100 cycles at 0.1C. However, the P2-NMLTMACZ cathode shows an outstanding rate capacity of 147.18 mA h g−1 and superior cycling stability with ∼84.63% capacity retention after 100 cycles at a high rate of 1C. The significant improvement in high-rate performance can be attributed to the robust structure, fast Na+-ion transport, and O-redox dynamics of the NMLTMACZ cathode, as evidenced by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), ex situ X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments. This study provides a new perspective on the design of high-capacity cathode materials with highly reversible ARR, demonstrating enhanced high-rate performance through rational lattice modulation.

The high-nickel cathode material LiNi 0.865 Co 0.095 Al 0.04 O 2 (NCA) has garnered significant attention due to its high energy density and cost-effectiveness in production. However, this material is also prone to rapid capacity degradation, primarily due to phase transitions occurring during the redox process. In this paper, the co-modification with Na and B cations is employed to stabilize the lattice structure and enhance the electrochemical performance of the NCA material. It can be found that the incorporation of Na and B cations in the lattice can reduce cation mixing, expand the Li-layer spacing and improve crystal stability, thereby increasing the specific capacity and cyclic stability of the NCA material. Specifically, the co-doped NCA-2 sample exhibits a specific capacity of 202.1 mAh/g at 0.1 C and maintains a capacity retention of 78.75 % at 1 C after 300 cycles, representing a substantial improvement over the pristine material (187.2 mAh/g and 61.68 % capacity retention). Moreover, at a current density of 10 C, the co-doped NCA-2 sample demonstrates a high specific capacity of 133.9 mAh/g, compared to 110.1 mAh/g for the pristine material. The Na/B co-doping strategy presented in this study offers a straightforward method to improve the cyclability and rate behavior of cathode materials, highlighting its potential for commercial applications.

Metal ions critically regulate microbial secondary metabolism. This study investigated the regulatory roles of metal ions in Shiraia sp. Slf14, an endophytic fungus with exceptional perylenequinone (PQ) biosynthesis capacity. Among eight ions tested, Na⁺, K⁺, Mg²⁺, and high Ca²⁺ (1.0 g/L) markedly enhanced PQ yields, while Mn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Fe³⁺ (≥ 0.5 g/L) exerted strong inhibition. Na⁺ emerged as the optimal elicitor, boosting production to 504.82 ± 8.62 mg/L (+ 57.96%) at 1.0 g/L without cytotoxicity. Na⁺ exhibited concentration- and time-dependent biphasic regulation. Critical innovation was achieved at 4 g/L Na⁺ added on day 4 (early-log phase), maximizing total PQ yield (1836.95 ± 45.21 mg/L, 5.75 × control), while concentrations > 12 g/L or late addition (≥ day 8) suppressed biosynthesis. Component-specific sensitivities were observed among five PQs. Furthermore, Na⁺ activated the calcineurin pathway: stress-induced Cam/Cna triggered calcineurin-mediated Crz1 nuclear translocation, upregulating key PQ genes ( pksI , omef , hydroxylase ). Concurrent induction of ena1 (Na⁺ exporter) and Ca²⁺-ATPase maintained ion homeostasis. In conclusion, our work pointed out monovalent cations (Na⁺/K⁺) as potent PQ biosynthetic stimulators in filamentous fungi and establish the Na⁺-calcineurin-PQ axis, offering a scalable strategy to overcome production bottlenecks in pharmaceutical PQ manufacturing.

Efficient recovery of residual lithium from lithium precipitation brine has always been a major challenge. A stable and efficient lithium extraction system and a driven mode need to be constructed. This study presents an innovative coupled electrochemical system combining a chlorine-doped polypyrrole (PPy−Cl) electrode with the LiMn 2 O 4 electrode. In this system, the LiMn 2 O 4 film electrode and chlorine-doped polypyrrole were synchronized to remove lithium and chlorine ions, and complete de-intercalation of LiMn 2 O 4 could be achieved at the cell voltage of 1.1 V, which greatly reduces energy consumption. No manganese ions were detected in the solution compared to the 1.43 % manganese dissolution loss after 10 tests on the graphite plate (GP) used as an auxiliary electrode. In addition, self-electrical-energy recuperation can be achieved by utilizing the low potential difference between Li 1-x Mn 2 O 4 and polypyrrole. The performances of the self-driven(SD) mode and the constant-current(CC) mode were compared to achieve externally controlled energy release. The intercalation capacity reached 33.82 mg g −1 at 0.4 mA cm −2 , and the intercalation efficiency was maintained at 88.12 % after 10 tests. During the first discharge, the discharge efficiency of the SD mode was only 54.08 % of the CC mode. Furthermore, the system exhibited high selectivity (51.3) in the lithium-precipitated brine with a high concentration of Na + and Li + (Na + /Li + = 8.47). These results indicate that the proposed strategy has significant potential in Li + resource recovery and can be used in a variety of Li + resource recovery applications.

High-entropy oxides (HEOs) represent promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, yet understanding the intricate relationship between their multi-element composition, crystal structure, and lithium storage mechanism remains a fundamental challenge. This study systematically investigates this relationship in (XCoNiCuZn)O (X = Li, Na, Mg) HEOs by modulating the fifth element. While all compositions form a single rock-salt structure, the cationic radius and valence state of X dictate both the lattice parameters and the electrochemical reaction pathway. It is revealed that (LiCoNiCuZn)O and (MgCoNiCuZn)O undergo a conversion-dominated phase transition mechanism, whereas (NaCoNiCuZn)O follows a solid-solution reaction. This mechanistic divergence, elucidated through in-situ EIS, ex-situ XRD/XPS, and kinetic analysis, directly governs the electrochemical performance. The Li-based HEOs (LiCoNiCuZn)O demonstrates exceptional performance, delivering a high capacity of 549.7 mAh g −1 with 83.4% retention after 300 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 , attributable to its effective charge compensation and superior ion conductivity. This work establishes a clear correlation from cationic modulation to storage performance, offering critical guidance for the rational design of HEOs for energy storage.

P2-Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 (NNMO) is promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its high specific capacity and fast Na + diffusion rate. Nonetheless, the irreversible P2-O2 phase transformation, Na + /vacancy ordering, and transition metal (TM) dissolution seriously damage its cycling stability and restrict its commercialization process. Herein, Na occupation manipulation and interface stabilization are proposed to strengthen the phase structure of NNMO by synergistic Zn/Ti co-doping and introducing lithium difluorophosp (LiPO 2 F 2 ) film-forming electrolyte additive . The Zn/Ti co-doping regulates the occupancy ratio of Na e /Na f at Na sites and disorganizes the Na + /vacancy ordering, resulting in a faster Na + diffusion kinetics and reversible P2-Z phase transition for P2-Na 0.67 Ni 0.28 Zn 0.05 Mn 0.62 Ti 0.05 O 2 (NNZMTO). Meanwhile, the LiPO 2 F 2 additive can form homogeneous and ultrathin cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) on NNZMTO surface, which can stabilize the NNZMTO-electrolyte interface to prevent TM dissolution, surface structure transformation, and micro-crack generation. Combination studies of in situ and ex situ characterizations and theoretical calculations were used to elucidate the storage mechanism of NNZMTO with LiPO 2 F 2 additive. As a result, the NNZMTO displays outstanding capacity retention of 94.44% after 500 cycles at 1C with 0.3 wt% LiPO 2 F 2 , excellent rate performance of 92.5 mA h g −1 at 8C with 0.1 wt% LiPO 2 F 2 , and remarkable full cell capability. This work highlights the important role of manipulating Na occupation and constructing protective film in the design of layered materials, which provides a promising direction for developing high-performance cathodes for SIBs.

NASICON-based solid-state batteries have attracted much attention due to their high safety and high energy density. However, the unstable interface contact usually leads to sodium dendrite formation and cell failure during cycling. Deep insights into the evolution of the NASICON/Na interface are conducive to designing a morphologically stable interface. Herein, for the first time, we develop an asymmetric stripping/plating method to investigate the evolution process of the NASICON/Na interface via a facile two-electrode cell. It is revealed that the “initial voltage drop” phenomenon is closely related to the rapid lateral growth of the Na film on the NASICON electrolyte, which will result in void accumulation, interface contact loss, dendrite growth, and ultimate cell failure. Inspired by this failure mechanism, we developed a semiliquid wetting agent (sodium biphenyl/C composite, NBPC) to construct a continuous Na+ transport pathway at the NASICON/Na interface. The symmetric cell modified with NBPC shows excellent cycling stability at 0.2 mA cm–2. The solid-state battery paired with Na3V2(PO4)2 shows a high discharge capacity of 104 mAh g–1 and a high capacity retention of 96.3% after 100 cycles at 1C.
