A porous V/SiO 2 sphere composite (VO X @SiO 2 ) was synthesized using one-step sol-gel method. Benefiting from the redox properties of vanadium and the hydrophilic property, VO X @SiO 2 showed good catalytic performances for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol (BzOH) to benzaldehyde (BzH) in aqueous phase through peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, and performed far better in water than in various organic solvents. The redox cycle of V V /V IV was supposed to be responsible for PMS decomposition in the VO X @SiO 2 /PMS system. The S O 4 ∙ - , 1 O 2 and mediated electron transfer were revealed to play a major role in the selective oxidation of BzOH to BzH. The intrinsic kinetics was analyzed to calculate the chemical reaction rate (r a ) and reaction order (n = 0.33) with respect to BzOH. This study provided some insights into the development of vanadium-based heterogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of BzOH to BzH through PMS activation.

While vanadium oxides have garnered interest due to their high capacity and abundant valence states in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs), there are many challenges to achieving long cycling stability and excellent rate capability resulting from poor electronic conductivity and sluggish reaction dynamics. Herein, we design a cathode material VNxOy/C derived from a self-assembled V-polydopamine complex via a one-step organic–inorganic hybrid reaction. Benefiting from a well-organized structure and nanosized particle embedding, the as-prepared VNxOy phase could favor zinc-ion insertion/extraction due to the strong affinity of N element with Zn2+. Systematic investigations show that the controllable strategy yields positive effects on the electrochemical performances including enhanced rate capability and cycling stability, which are superior to those of the V2O3/C cathode. As a result, we have achieved fast charging/discharging capability at 10 A g–1 and stability exceeding 700 cycles at 3 A g–1 with nearly 100% Coulombic efficiency. Interestingly, the pouch-cell-like devices with ∼24 mAh could light an LED effectively. This work may pave the way to obtaining highly active V-containing compounds with structure design to improve electrochemical performances of AZIBs.

Nonoxidative dehydrogenation of isobutane is one of the sustainable strategies for producing high value added isobutene. As alternatives for the commercial Pt- and Cr-based dehydrogenation catalysts, supported V-based catalysts are worthy of study. In this work, a series of VOx/mMgAlO-R catalysts (m = 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30) were designed and prepared by loading VOxon mMgAlO composite oxide supports derived from mesoporous Al2O3-supported layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocomposites. The calcined and reduced catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra, Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance (UV-Vis) spectra, NH3temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD), Temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and low temperature N2adsorption–desorption isotherms. The as-synthesized VOx/20MgAlO-R with appropriate Mg addition exhibits superior activity (43–56% conversion and 77–81% selectivity), excellent stability and coking-resistance for the isobutane dehydrogenation. The structure–performance relationship reveals that the formation of VOxspecies confined in the reconstructed LDH interlayer and porous MgO facilitates dispersing and stabilizing the VOxspecies. The low polymerization degree and higher proportion of V4+ion for VOxspecies, strong acidity of medium acid sites and low concentration of strong acid sites are responsible for the excellent anti-coking and catalytic performance. The strong VOx–support interaction is beneficial for enhancing the stability of the catalysts. Keywords:isobutane dehydrogenation;layered double hydroxide;vanadium-based catalysts;magnesium modification;polymerization degree

Toluene gas-phase oxidation is a green, chlorine-free production process for benzaldehyde but its conversion efficiency is still unsatisfying due to the lack of highly efficient catalyst. Here the selective oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde over V-Ag-Ce/TiO 2 under an air atmosphere was investigated. The catalyst was prepared by impregnation and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), N 2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), H 2 temperature programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR), O 2 temperature programmed desorption (O 2 -TPD), and NH 3 temperature programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD). The amount of oxygen vacancy and acid of the catalyst can be tuned through adjusting the V:Ag:Ce ratio. Over the optimum catalyst (V:Ag:Ce = 4:2:1, molar ratio), 92% benzaldehyde selectivity with a 27% toluene conversion can be obtained at 550 °C. Medium amounts of oxygen vacancy (0.43) and acidity (0.10 mmol/g) are found to be conducive to the conversion of toluene to benzaldehyde. This study has important theoretical guiding significance for improving conversion efficiency from toluene to benzaldehyde by gas-phase aerobic oxidation.

Glycerol can be converted to allyl alcohol via deoxydehydration using molybdenum-vanadium, rhenium and iron based catalysts. However, the dehydration causes severe coking at strong acid sites on the surface of catalyst. Molybdenum-vanadium oxide supported on calcium oxide-intercalated montmorillonite (MoV-CaMMT) was prepared by oxalate anion intercalation followed by impregnation. MoV-CaMMT displayed the best catalytic performance of 86.5% glycerol conversion and good stability in 5 h. Correlating the results of XRD, XPS and TG analysis, it can be demonstrated that the addition of CaO in the catalyst preparation is conducive to the crystallization and dispersion of vanadium oxides, and reduces the acid strength, while the presence of a few vanadium dioxide and the stable conversion of V 4+ and V 5+ are the reasons for enhancing coking-resistance of MoV-CaMMT. Additionally, NH 3 -TPD analysis proved the coexistence of weak and strong acid sites in MoVO x , which are conducive to the formation of acetol.

A fluorine-free and low temperature synthetic route derived from in-situ formed mineralizer has been developed to fabricate V–ZrSiO 4 turquoise ceramic pigment. When the calcination temperature is 750 ° C and mole ratio of Na 3 VO 4 to ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O (NV/Zr) is 0.3, the as-prepared pigment exhibits a cluster-like structure and deep blue hue (L* = 69.28, a* = −12.15, b* = −20.04). The solid state reaction taking place during the mechanical grinding process lead to the in-situ formation of mineralizer NaCl and certain Si–O–Zr bond. The XRD refinement results and hyperfine structure in EPR spectra indicate that vanadium is located at the zircon interstitial site 16g with an isolated V 4+ cluster state. The enameled samples exhibit excellent coloring ability, high chemical and thermal stability, suggesting its potential application in ceramic decoration.

As an advanced technology in the preparation of a sustainable and clean hydrogen energy source, electrolysis of water splitting has attracted more and more research attention. Water electrolysis is an important step toward hydrogen economy on account of the high efficiency and environmentally friendly. However, developing bifunctional electrocatalysts possessed with low cost, high activity, and everlasting durability to simultaneously promote bulk water cleavage is imminent. In this work, transition metal oxide (TMOs) HxV2O5 was anchored on the RuNi bimetallic catalyst by hydrothermal method to form a porous granular catalyst, which greatly improved the electron transfer ability. Due to the increased contact surface between RuVONi and electrolyte of this structural catalyst, the amounts of active sites are ferreted out. In-depth experimental results and DFT calculations show optimized molar ratio RuNiVO sample has superior electron transport ability compared with RuNiV, RuNiMoO, and RuNiMo, and exhibits significant electrocatalytic performance at 1.0 M KOH. Under the current density of 10 mA cm–2, RuNiVO electrocatalysts show OER and HER overpotentials of 224 and 136 mV and have superior durability. The density functional theory (DFT) results indicate that the insertion V metal oxide may optimize ΔG with higher charge density intensity, thereby improving its OER and HER activities.

2,5-Diformylfuran (DFF), arising as an oxidation product of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), has garnered significant interest owing to its versatile range of applications. In this study, the desired catalyst of NH 4 V 3 O 8 /N-C was successfully prepared and investigated by various characterization methods. A systematic effect of reaction conditions was conducted, revealing that under 5 bar of oxygen pressure, DFF was synthesized from HMF selective oxidation using the NH 4 V 3 O 8 /N-C catalyst. This transformation was achieved within 2 h at 120 °C, exhibiting an impressive DFF selectivity of 97.8%. During the recycling experiment, the catalytic efficiency remained consistently high even after being employed for eight cycles.

Advanced oxidation processes involving the visible-light-assisted peroxymonosulfate (PMS) are emerging as promising approaches for treating antibiotic pollutants. Here, Fe(II)/V(IV) self-doped FeVO 4 nanobelts were synthesized and employed to build a visible-light-assisted PMS activation system for degrading antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX). Compared with PMS/FeVO 4 , PMS/Visible light (VL), or PMS system, the PMS/FeVO 4 /VL system showed 3.9, 14.0, or 14.1 times improved for the removal of SMX, respectively. The reason behind this is the organic combination of the VL photocatalysis and transformation of Fe(II)/V(IV) to Fe(III)/V(V) over FeVO 4 , namely when photocatalytic behavior over FeVO 4 can produce electrons (e - ) and holes (h + ) to activate PMS or directly degrade SMX, the transformation of Fe(II)/V(IV) to Fe(III)/V(V) will also happen to donate some e - for PMS activation simultaneously. Such a system can also effectively remove SMX from actual water bodies such as medicine wastewater, river water, tap water, and rainwater. This work not only provides an effective system for treating SMX polluted wastewater, but also gives some new insights to understanding the mechanism involving Fe-based binary metal oxide activating peroxymonosulfate.

To improve hydrogen storage property of Mg-based alloy, the Mg–Ce–Y–Ni + 10 wt % M (M = Zr, Ti, V) composites were prepared by the combination of alloying and ball-milling, and their microstructure, phase evolution, as well as hydrogen storage thermodynamic and kinetic properties, were investigated by XRD , PCT, and DSC methods. The result shows that the hydrogenated samples are composed of MgH 2 , Mg 2 NiH 4 and corresponding ZrH 2 , TiH 2 and VH 1.9 phases. In comparison, the |Δ H| value of M = Ti sample is larger than that of M = Zr and M = V samples, and the M = Ti sample has the highest the peak temperatures and lowest plateau pressure, which indicates that Zr and V elements are more efficient to reduce the thermodynamic stability of RE-Mg-Ni hydrogen storage alloys. Besides, the DSC curve of the M = V sample has another endothermic peak which corresponds to the decomposition reaction between VH 1.9 and VH 0.8 , which has a contribution to desorption kinetic property for the M = V sample. The apparent activation energies ( E de ) show an increasing trend in the following order: M = Zr (87.7 kJ/mol) < M = V (89.1 kJ/mol) < M = Ti (99.3 kJ/mol).

The hydrogenation of furan ring in the biomass-derived furans is of great importance for the conversion of biomass to valuable chemicals. Fabrication of high activity and selectivity catalyst for this hydrogenation under mild conditions was one of the focuses of this research. In this manuscript, UiO-66-v, in which vinyl bonded to the benzene ring, was first prepared. Then, the uniformly distributed vinyl was used as the reductant for the preparation of Pd/UiO-66-v. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric, N2physical adsorption/desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometer elemental mappings, and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy to find the Pd/UiO-66-v had a narrow palladium nanoparticles size of 3–5 nm and maintained the structure and thermal stability of UiO-66-v. The Pd/UiO-66-v was used for the hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol in water. 99% conversion of furfuryl alcohol was obtained with 90% selectivity to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol after reacted at 0.5 MPa H2, 303 K for 12 h. The Pd/UiO-66-v was proved to be effective for the hydrogenation of furan ring in furans and could be used for at least five times. Keywords:furfuryl alcohol;hydrogenation;tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol;Pd/UiO-66-v;water solvent

Vanadium (V)-containing all-silica beta-zeolites (VSi-Beta) were directly synthesized using a dry-gel-conversion route, in which the gel was prepared from the acid-catalysed co-hydrolysis of a silica precursor and ammonium metavanadate. Besides the framework isolated V species, VSi-Beta contained tetrahedral [V2O7]4− and (VO3)nn− species that were bonded to the framework with a high dispersion. These V species resisted the over-oxidation of fructose and efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF). As a result, VSi-Beta demonstrated high activity in the one-pot and one-step conversion of fructose into DFF using atmospheric oxygen (O2) in the presence of sulfuric acid, affording a high yield of 86.3% and a maximum turnover number (TON) of 270. The catalyst can be easily recovered by filtration and exhibits good reusability. Various other carbohydrates (glucose, sucrose, inulin, raffinose, maltose and starch) were also effectively converted into DFF using VSi-Beta.
