Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate (NO3−) to ammonia (NH3) is garnering increasing interest due to its potential to reduce CO2 emissions as a substitute for the Haber-Bosch process, while also mitigating NO3− pollution. However, it remains a challenge to achieve a current density exceeding 300 mA cm−2 while maintaining the stability of catalysts. Additionally, the anodic oxygen evolution reaction, characterized by slow kinetics and high energy barriers, severely impedes the widespread adoption of NH3 formation from NO3− reduction. Therefore, in this study, we introduce amorphous phosphorus-doped cobalt catalysts (Co–P@NF) prepared via a facile electrodeposition process for efficient NO3− reduction and hydrazine oxidation. The incorporation of phosphorus in Co–P@NF facilitates electron migration from phosphorus to cobalt, enhancing *H provision for efficient hydrogenation of the intermediate *NO2−. This results in a current density of 2 A cm−2 at −0.3 V, with a faradaic efficiency for NH3 of 91% in an electrolyte containing 1 M NO3−. Moreover, the Co–P@NF catalyst exhibits remarkable long-term stability, maintaining an NH3 faradaic efficiency exceeding 90% and a current density of 799 mA cm−2 after 82 hours of electrolysis. Furthermore, Co–P@NF displays high catalytic activity in promoting the rate-determining step of hydrazine oxidation, from *N2H2 to *N2H. The incorporation of the HzOR (hydrazine oxidation reaction)-assisted NO3−RR (nitrate reduction reaction) unit significantly reduces the cell voltage to 0.34 V at 300 mA cm−2.

Radiative-cooled textiles are attracting attention because they can spontaneously lower the microenvironmental temperature of the human body. The radiative cooling and hydrophobic fabric was prepared by two-step dip-coating on PET fabric with a ZnO/P(VDF-HFP) as radiative cooling coating and a PDMS hydrophobic wear-resistant layer. The effect of morphology (sheet, hexagonal prism, flower, and rod) of ZnO nanomaterial on the radiative cooling property of the coated fabric was examined. Among the four types of ZnO, the ZnO sheets have the highest sunlight reflectivity of 0.827. Besides, P(VDF-HFP) is a binder that loads ZnO onto PET fibers and enhances the solar reflectivity of coated fabric by reflecting visible light. Hence, the ZnO sheet/P(VDF-HFP)-PDMS (Z S PP) coated fabric possessed a solar reflectance of up to 91.3 % under the synergistic effect of ZnO sheets and P(VDF-HFP), and due to specific functional groups (e.g. C–F, C–Si) in the hybrid coating, and its mid-infrared emissivity reached 93.2 %. As a result, the Z S PP coated fabric were 7.1 °C cooler than the PET fabric under direct sunlight, with an average cooling efficiency of 72.6 W·m −2 . The coated fabric demonstrated well-hydrophobic and durability properties due to the PDMS, making them much more suitable for use in complex outdoor environments.

Human body temperature is a critical physiological indicator, reflecting metabolism and temperature regulation. Biomimetic temperature sensors with high temporal and spatial resolution are highly desired to emulate human skin's temperature perception capabilities. Here, a selective filtration method is proposed to fabricate a jointless p-n thermoelectric module, integrating p-type and n-type materials with minimal interfacial barriers. The structure enables rapid response, minimal signal variation, and a robust linear relationship between open circuit voltage and temperature difference, making it suitable as a biomimetic thermoreceptor for enhancing humanoid robots with intelligent sensing capabilities. A smart thermoelectric sensing system with a high temporal and spatial resolution is developed using with jointless p-n module as the sensing element. In temporal thermal sensing, the sensing system can timely and effectively identify the heat source, with a fast response time of <0.1 s. In addition, in spatial thermal sensing, the system reliably detects thermal stimuli within discrete regions of each measuring area of <1 × 1 cm 2 . This study provides an effective strategy for temperature sensors in thermoelectric sensing and biomimetic thermoreceptor applications.

The inherent brittleness and flammability of epoxy resin (EP) significantly limit its applications in high-performance fields. To address these challenges, a P-functionalized diphenyl-methylvinyl-copolysiloxane additive (DOPS) was synthesized via a simple method using diphenylsilane, dimethoxymethylvinylsilane, and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO). This additive was incorporated into epoxy systems cured with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), effectively enhancing both toughness and flame retardancy. When the DOPS content reached 6.93 wt%, the DOPS-4 thermosets achieved a V-0 rating in the UL-94 test. Additionally, the total heat release (THR) and total smoke production (TSP) of the DOPS-4 sample decreased by 41.34 % and 39.04 %, respectively, compared to the neat EP thermoset. These improvements were attributed to the trapping effect of P-containing radicals and the formation of a P/Si-containing char layer, which effectively inhibited combustion and reduced smoke and heat release. In addition, the flexural and impact strengths of DOPS-4 were improved by 15.6 % and 95.3 %, respectively, compared to the neat EP thermoset. These enhancements were ascribed to the rigid phosphaphenanthrene segments and abundant flexible chains in DOPS. Moreover, the DOPS-modified epoxy thermosets still exhibited excellent thermal stability. In sum, this work provides a facile and effective strategy to enhance the toughness and flame retardancy of epoxy thermosets, offering promising potential for advanced material applications.

Developing an exceptional reaction medium with high promotion efficiency, desirable biodegradability and good recyclability is necessary for hydrate-based methane storage. In this work, a kind of eco-friendly hydrogel, polyvinyl alcohol-co-acrylic acid (PVA-co-PAA), was utilized to absorb dilute sodium p-styrenesulfonate (SS) solution, for constructing a hybrid reaction medium for methane hydrate formation. Hydrogels or dilute SS solutions (1–4 mmol L−1) had weak or even no promoting effects on hydrate formation kinetics, while the combination of them could synergistically promote methane hydrate formation. In hydrogel-SS hybrid media containing 1, 2, 3 and 4 mmol L−1of SS solutions, the storage capacity reached 121.2 ± 1.6, 121.5 ± 3.1, 122.6 ± 1.9 and 120.6 ± 1.6v/v, respectively. In this binary reaction system, the large surface area of hydrogels provided hydrate formation with sufficient nucleation sites and an enlarged gas–liquid interface, and in the meantime, the dilute SS solution produced an adequate capillary effect, which together enhanced mass transfer and accelerated hydrate formation kinetics. Additionally, the hybrid medium could relieve wall-climbing hydrate growth and improve poor hydrate compactness resulting from the bulk SS promoter. Moreover, the hybrid medium exhibited a preferable recyclability and could be reused at least 10 times. Therefore, the hydrogel-SS hybrid medium can serve as an effective and eco-friendly packing medium for methane hydrate storage tanks, which holds great application potential in hydrate-based methane storage technology.

Transition metal selenide is a typical pseudocapacitive material used in supercapacitor electrodes, but its practical application is restricted due to its insufficient utilization rate of active sites and slow kinetics of redox reaction. Defect engineering can effectively adjust the electronic structure, provide additional intercalation sites, and realize the regulation of energy storage mechanism within the lattice. At present, heteroatom doping is an effective strategy that can provide abundant vacancy defects by introducing heterogeneous atoms, thereby achieving significantly improved electrochemical performance. Based on this, NiCo2Se4 electrode materials with Se vacancies were prepared by P doping for supercapacitors. The double-effect synergy of P doping and vacancy engineering can effectively change the electronic structure and improve the adsorption capacity of ions, which are more prone to redox reactions. The assembled hybrid supercapacitor (NiCo2Sex-P1//AC) has 90.2% capacity retention and 100% coulombic efficiency after 10 000 consecutive charge–discharge cycles, and it exhibits a high energy density of 94.6 W h kg−1 at a power density of 799.9 W kg−1. This provides an effective strategy for constructing high-performance supercapacitors.

2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a highly toxic persistent organic pollutant (POP) that can induce DNA damage within cells. Although oxidative stress is one of the primary mechanisms causing DNA damage, its role in the process of TCDD-induced DNA damage remains unclear. In this study, the TCDD-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the occurrence of DNA damage at the AP site were monitored simultaneously. Further investigation revealed that TCDD impaired the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), compromising the cellular antioxidant defense system. Consequently, this led to an increase in the production of O 2 .− and NO, thus inducing DNA damage at the AP site under oxidative stress. Our findings were further substantiated by the upregulation of key genes in the base excision repair (BER) pathway and the absence of DNA AP site damage after inhibiting O 2 .− and NO. In addition, transcriptome sequencing revealed that TCDD induces DNA damage by upregulating genes associated with oxidative stress in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), and breast cancer pathways. This study provides important insights into the toxicity mechanisms of TCDD.

Lignin can affect the enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency of lignocellulose. In this study, the lignin isolated from sugarcane bagasse (SCB) pretreated with p-toluenesulfonic acid (PL) was firstly aminated, and then the effects of PL and aminated PL (APL) on the bagasse enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency (EHE) were investigated. The results showed that the addition of PL and APL promoted the EHE, and EHE with APL (73.82 %) was higher than PL (51.39 %). To explore the reason, the data were further analyzed including cellulase adsorption capacity, enzyme activity, cellulase-lignin interaction, and molecular docking. It was found that APL adsorbed more cellulase (27.83 mg protein/g lignin) than PL (4.96 mg protein/g lignin), resulting from the greater interaction force and lower binding free energy between APL and cellulase. The addition of APL more remarkably enhanced the cellobiohydrolase and endoglucanase activities than PL due to more effectively inducing cellulase conformation optimization.

Organisms have evolved stress-inducible defense responses such as the P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-mediated efflux system to maintain chemical homeostasis in cells for both endogenous and xenobiotic compounds. However, despite the extensive focus on the potential interactions of P-gp with small molecules, the effect of nanoparticles on this transporter is scarcely reported. Thus in this work, in vitro experiments combined with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were carried out to investigate the interactions of the multidrug resistance (MDR) protein P-gp with fullerene (C60), one of the most important nano-drug carriers. Upon exposure to fluorescence-labeledC60 (0–70 μg mL−1) for 2 h, significant accumulation of C60 is found in both the K562S and K562R cells, suggesting the incapability of P-gp to induce the efflux of this nanoparticle. In addition, in vitro inhibition assays also reveal that C60 does not obviously hinder P-gp-mediated rhodamine-123 transport in both K562S and K562R cells. The theoretical simulations further reveal the mechanism involved in C60-P-gp interactions, i.e., the binding of C60 barely induces the conformational changes of P-gp with RMSD of ∼4.8 Å and radius of gyration of ∼41.5 Å, and also no theoretical evidence shows that the C60 acts as a substrate or inhibitor of P-glycoprotein. These results demonstrate the potential of C60 as a good carrier candidate for MDR-targeted drug delivery, since organisms probably have not evolved to recognize this nanoparticle.

Controlling the morphology of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is critical for tailoring their transformation into metal oxides with unique microstructures and properties, particularly for gas sensing applications. In this study, a dual In-MOF-MF was developed using a mixed linker approach involving terephthalic acid and fumaric acid. These two linkers interact with In 3 + ions to produce nanofibers with a high aspect ratio. The resulting In 2 O 3 -MF exhibits superior acetone sensing properties compared to In 2 O 3 derived from single-linker MOFs. Furthermore, the n-type In 2 O 3 -MF was coupled with p-type PtO to create a p-n junction gas sensor. The combination of rich active sites and the well-defined coupling interfaces between PtO and In 2 O 3 -MF leads to remarkable acetone sensing performance, featuring a high response (347–100 ppm acetone), rapid response/recovery time (34/18 s), excellent selectivity, and a relatively low detection limit (300 ppb). This work highlights a mixed-linker strategy for MOF morphology manipulation, enabling the fabrication of a one-dimensional p-n junction for next-generation advanced acetone sensing applications.

The ternary metal oxides that combine two different metal cations is an interesting candidate as sensing material based on their interesting properties. Hence, ordered dendrite InWO 4 was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method, followed by the construction of an InWO 4 -rGO heterojunction to enhance detection capability for triethylamine (TEA) gas. The synthesized product underwent morphology and elemental composition analysis using various techniques. Gas sensing experiments revealed that the InWO 4 -rGO gas sensor, operating at the optimal temperature of 220 ℃, displayed a significantly improved response to 100 ppm TEA, with a high value of 59.5, in comparison to the pure InWO 4 gas sensor (11.5 at 250 ℃). Additionally, the recovery time was reduced from 184 s to 122 s. Based on experimental data and gas sensing reaction theory, this study attributes the improved gas sensing performance to the formation of p-n heterojunction, a larger specific surface area and rGO's catalytic effect. This study not only introduces a novel addition to the gas sensing material family but also promotes the development of advanced gas sensors.

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) are abundant and cost-effective materials. However, poor conductivity and low intrinsic activity limit their application in electrolyzed water catalysts. Herein, we prepared P-FeMoO 4 in situ on nickel foam (P-FMO@NF) by phosphorylation-modified FeMoO 4 to optimize its electrocatalytic properties. Interestingly, phosphorus doping is accompanied by the generation of oxygen vacancies and surface phosphates . Oxygen vacancies accelerated Mo dissolution during the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), leading to the rapid reconfiguration of P-FMO@NF to FeOOH and regulating the electronic structure of P-FMO@NF. The formation of phosphates is caused by the substitution of some molybdates with phosphates, which further increases the amount of oxygen vacancies . Hence, the OER overpotential of P-FMO@NF at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 is only 206 mV, and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) overpotential is 154 mV. It was assembled into a water splitting cell with a voltage of just 1.59 V at 10 mA cm −2 and shows excellent stability over 50 h. These excellent electrocatalytic properties are mainly attributed to the oxygen vacancies , which improve the interfacial charge transfer properties of the catalysts. This study provides new insights into phosphorus doping and offers a new perspective on the design of electrocatalysts.
